Not OP but the idea is that God and Gods, like all things are not separate. That all is a reflection of the divine. Most of the schools mostly focus on which one(Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, Mother Goddess being main ones) is the supreme godhead. Thus a worshiper can worship as many Gods as they see fit, or just focus on one while not excluding the others.

In all honesty, one could say is Hinduism is is like Buddhism but with more focus on God worship(There is a secular school of Hinduism but thats its own ball park).

17 is right, but it is beyond that. There are atheist hindus who are practically Theravada, hindus who are practically pagan in the classical greco-roman-greek way, pure monotheism in the Abrahamic way….

But deep down, it is a lot like Buddhism, in the idea of liberation from ego and clinging.

Just unlike Buddhism says "Nothing" Hinduism says "Divine Unity in godhead/existance"

From what I've read, Siddhartha Guatama or the historical Buddha is considered by many Hindus to be an avatar of the god Vishnu as well. Also they have a concept called Moksha similar to Nirvana's liberation from Samsara. One major difference between Buddhism and Hinduism might be that Buddhism believes in Anatman (non-self, lack of a permanent self) while Hinduism usually believes in Atman (an eternal self/soul).

Some historians say that Buddhism and other schools that popped up in India (many of these were in response to dissatisfaction with Brahmanism's rituals and sacrifices) were gradually integrated into what is Hinduism today.

Places like Thailand have a strong direct influence from both Theravada Buddhism and Hinduism today. Meanwhile some East Asian Mahayana sects believe in a pantheon of deities adapted from Hindu ones, such as Taishakuten (Indra).

It is sad that historically there have been conflicts between Hindu groups and Buddhist groups as I think both religions are noble and worthy of respect. May we all get along and find peace and happiness.

Buddha is so important in godddess worshiping Hinduism that it is said that we must pray to The Hindu version of Tara *which is a lot like Kali* "Like how they do so in China" *aka Tibet*. Vishnu incarnated as the Buddha just to do that!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatman_(Hinduism)#Buddhist_concept_of_Anatman_or_Anatta

this is an extension of previous understanding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatman_(Hinduism)#Upanishadic_concept_of_the_Atman not opposed
“Na me so atta” - the atman was an agent (karmin) in and of samsara which is subject to the whims of becoming (bhava)
so the sense of self is an illusion: there is no individual self separate from one's existence
