Alright, it's that time of the semester. What's the best/worst of each of your classes?
Anonymous 04/09/15 (Thu) 19:45:21 f34409 No. 1769
I hate to say it, but GAM was my worst class this year.

CS170 and GAT210 for best, CS230 for worst. 170 and 210 are exactly what I wanted from CS and game design coming in and they're both fun as hell. 230 is an obtuse pile of shit taught in the least intelligible way because fuck me, I only spent $3,500 on the class.
Anonymous 04/10/15 (Fri) 19:01:28 f34409 No. 1792
>>1791 I wasn't much a fan of Gat, primarily because Holcomb's grades tend to swing wildly and his TAs' are all somewhat unhelpful to me, but the content is solid.
211 is a waste of time IMO but 212 is worth it.
Anonymous 04/10/15 (Fri) 19:07:02 e85790 No. 1793
>>1791 So CS230 hasn't improved since last year then I take it? I thought they were trying to make it Not Complete Garbage.

I just don't think Abi Chacra gives a fuck. The "required" header changed at least 4 times, and there were multiple times where the handout (besides just being unhelpful and not including critical things from lecture) told us to do something that he had already implemented in the code. It was super clear he just reused as much as possible and never actually went over it once himself. As a Digipen student, I sure as fuck know "minimum passable" work when I see it, and that's everything about how 230 was taught.
Anonymous 04/10/15 (Fri) 22:53:51 d564f6 No. 1801
I didn't like GAT210 because I only learned a few things from making board games that help me make video games.
Anonymous 04/10/15 (Fri) 23:51:00 eb2945 No. 1802
>>1800 The "required" header changed each time because he didn't bother to change it from his predecessor except on one assignment.

>>1802 I'm not shocked. See: "It was super clear he just reused as much as possible and never actually went over it once himself"
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 01:32:05 eb2945 No. 1805
>>1801 The core lesson from Holcomb's classes is to take some time and know why the fuck you're doing something rather than just mashing out new content.

>>1803 I can confirm, Ive spoken with alumni and shown them the assignments

>CS350 >Disagree >Disagree >Extremely disagree >disagree I'm so glad that it's a required course, because it was such an exciting graphics course.

>>1811 Nobody was talking about CS350?
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 04:13:21 735e04 No. 1813
CS391. It's exactly what DigiPen should strive for in all classes. Super useful information that I will use for the rest if my career. GAM 300 series is probably my worst. It's like the instructors care in a personal level, but try setting up a meeting with any of them other than Rachel. Maybe they each need a TA assistant. Or more instructors per student. And what the fuck happened to Chris? Did GAM just give the fuck up on technology lectures?
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 04:47:25 0e16be No. 1814
>>1805 Surely there is a better way to teach that then having us make board games out of pieces of garbage
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 04:56:53 ae69c7 No. 1815
>>1812 It's a thread talking about course evals and I'm pretty sure CS350 is a course last time I checked the catalog.
Anonymous 04/11/15 (Sat) 20:34:04 f34409 No. 1822
>>1815 What
>>1812 was confused about was that you opened with "disagree, disagree, disagree" which was in reference to the feedback form, not to anything said in the thread.
