>Absolute dogshit tier
>Portegeys

Mid Tier:
>Dolla Dolla Schillz

Shit Tier:
>Paul Clark
>Becker(debatable I guess)

>>701
Paul Clark ain't here anymore.

8da3ab No.712

>>694
>Beorkel
>Bottom Tier

Well somebody failed his class.

7979fc No.714

Who the fuck will tell people to play Tribes for a class activity then?

661f8a No.716

>>712
A lot of people do.
He's a good teacher if you can handle it. Like you'll know the math REALLY well. But there's no reason for him to want to try to force you to be a mathematician if it's not what you're here for.

90e9f4 No.718

>>712
Bede, Hanson, and Brigitta shit all over Beorkel.

66dc59 No.723

Dolla dolla shillz it's top tier at least, if you are willing to talk to him outside of class. He is the reason I learned component based engine design in GAM 200.

820bcb No.726

>>694
>Portnow
>Shit Tier
U fokin wot m8

7979fc No.728

>>723
>if you can find him outside of class
That's the main reason he's not top tier in my book

90e9f4 No.731

>>723
Dougernaut is midtier at best. Bottom tier because he can't distinguish between kids that know what the fuck they're doing and those that don't. He talks to everyone like they don't know what a damn array is.

66346e No.738

>>726
Bagd, everyone calm down its just a bagd.

But in all seriousness, yes portnow is a pretentious faggot who doesn't give to time of day to any of his students

6b4f3d No.739

>>726
Portnow is not just a box of tools, he's the entire Home fucking Depot.

6b4f3d No.740

>>694
Not putting Comair in a bottom-most tier of his own is frankly in insult to the other shit-tier teachers. Even though Portnow is a fucknugget (see above), and Ellinger makes up a new thing to teach each year while high on dust, at least they did teach things on occasion. Chris "Nepotism" Comair just fucked around in our CS225 class every day and swaggered about as though he was hot shit. Absolutely useless sack of fucking shit.

ae55ac No.753

>>738

As a BAGD, Portnow was absolutely terrible. The only people who like him, BAGD or no, are

a) Squealing female EC fangirls
b) Senior BAGDs who somehow managed to pass his Gat 251/250 and received his praise.

28579a No.789

>>694
Klassen is god tier or at least top tier imo

7cb18d No.803

How is Hemovich top tier…? All she does is talk about oreos and the video games she borrowed from her friends and played for 5 minutes. She's an above average community college teacher at best.

2650ae No.807

>>803
yeah but she's hot ok

90e9f4 No.812

>>803
Hemovich generally does a good job presenting the material in an interesting way. Her lectures are pretty engaging given the subject matter. She does suffer the handicap of teaching classes that almost -noone- gives a fuck about. Social Sciences had a hard tech school is asking a lot and she does a top tier job of it most of the time.

ae55ac No.1535

Updated list(I put people on the lower tier if they were debated or given multiple entries)

Creating Another Lower Shit Tier Seems Kinda Silly But That's What People Seem To Want Tier:
>Comair

No-Longer-Here Tier:
>Paul Clark
>Becker
>Comair?

Rachel is definitely top or god tier. Not sure why the fuck you think otherwise. Think most people would agree.

Still don't know why Boerkoel is bottom-tier, and misspelled every single time in this thread. His method of teaching calculus by acting like a disapproving father when you fail gateways was amazing.

00f3c4 No.1541

>>1540
Yeah, I really enjoyed him too.

ae55ac No.1542

Nobody has stated anything otherwise. I wouldn't say God Tier or Top, I'd say Mid myself, but I just compiled everything posted before.

Racheal go back to facebook

d4764e No.1555

Rowan and Morrison are definitely, at best, shit tier, but they definitely belong in the shittier than shit tier.

Ellen, on the other hand, is the only good thing in GAM as far as useful experience and advice and willingness to help goes. I would say she is as close to God Tier as GAM teacher can be.

540504 No.1558

>>1555
Rowan knows his shit, though. He has no real skill as a teacher, but he fucking knows his shit, and I've gotten some very good advice from him.

8da3ab No.1559

>>1555
>Rowan
>Shit tier

Have you ever had him for anything other than GAT 110?
He's a great teacher and knows how to make some of the best lecture slides I've ever seen.

Unlike Ellinger, he actually has experience being a designer.

cae03e No.1560

>>1540
I get that he wants you to know how to do calculus and actually know how to do it rather than memorized how to do it for the year, but it's kinda absurd when you compare it to the other math professors. His final took majority of the class well over the 3 hours.

Meanwhile in Linear Alg town, it's insanely easy. Learn rref and know what you're doing with it sums up the class.

674497 No.1564

>>1559
What else does he even teach? Nothing in the first 2 years of the BSGD program. Always seemed like a bro though.

In regards to all the comments about Rachel. ..what does she do again? I've only seen her be a waste time in gam…

00f3c4 No.1565

>>1544
I'm not Rachel, but she did play a big part in me getting my first job. Her team on ones have always been tremendously useful for the teams I've been on.

7979fc No.1577

>>1564
He just volunteered to take over art260(ux design) after Paul Clark was fired. He knows his shit but can be a little thick about teaching classes as a group. (As evidenced by the god awful vocabulary midterm)

He also is acutely aware that gat 110 isn't worthwhile. He will be the first one to tell you he hates how it's going. But DigiPen is not his main job. He is still at least somewhat active in the industry, and constantly busy.

I'm not defending Morrison at a teacher. He's cool to talk to individually but gives useless or stolen lectures to his classes.

7979fc No.1579

>>1565
I've overheard quite a few team on ones where she uses the exact same canned responses. Sometimes she goes off script for a team she likes, but she plays favorites(check her Facebook and she'll post about her favorite teams constantly, which kinda bugs me..). The script is crafted to bring out the most enthusiasm going forward as it can, though, and while I don't value the team on ones I've been to, my teammates get hyped after them, so I consider it a necessary evil.

7979fc No.1580

>>1555
I disagree about Rowan and think he should be mid since he genuinely knows what he's talking about but is a lackluster teacher.

Morrison is just a puppet to regurgitate the rhino's new design terminology, so I agree there.

Ellen gives useful feedback but is often interrupted by Ellinger when he disagrees. If she would so letting him verbally walk over her, she'd be top tier, but without that probably mid

d4764e No.1589

>>1580
Isn't this a ranking of teachers though? So being a bad teacher should put them in a lower tier evenn if they know their shit when you talk them one on one.

I want to know why Morrison is still around though. He is such a terrible teacher, it boggles my mind how there isn't a massive request for refunds at the end of every semester from people taking his classes, are all designers THAT desperate to graduate that they don't care getting such a shitty education?

7979fc No.1590

>>1589
>Be BAGD
>survive freshman year
>GAT250
>Morrison spews out Rhino's blog terminology again
>Sometimes takes lectures from /r/gamedev
>Sometimes demos Papers Please or Jetpack Joyride or whatever other game is on his computer
>Turn in 3 projects
>Don't really know what I'm supposed to do
>But whatever
>Get A's on every project
>Pass GAT250
>Alright.

It's the same reason it took DigiPen so long to get rid of Paul Clark.

674497 No.1663

>>1590
Morrison is a reasonably fine designer. I've had decent talks about that with him. Problem is that's like 25% of what's needed to succeed in that class.

7979fc No.1664

>>1663
Your art and sound must be immaculate or get a -80% for the project.

4d3ba0 No.1671

>>1664
My fucking face when. You can use the assets from the old sound library and have your entire game be programmer art and get a passing grade. Not that you can't have a shit game and custom art and sound and get a A+++.

1a7bc6 No.1672

>>1671
>Not that you can't have a shit game and custom art and sound and get a A+++.
Can't fucking wait to see my team's trainwreck of a game that fits these exact requirements on the monitors at DigiPen in a couple years' time. It's horrible to play but it looks and sounds great.

674497 No.1676

>>1664
From what I've seen in that class, most of the students have fine -ideas- the problem is implementation. And neither Morrison or the TAs have any idea how to help with that.

(RTIS)
I will like to give some credit to some amazing teachers I have had over the last 2 years. (they might even read this board, who knows)
They make this degree worth it. I wish some teachers were more like them (Att. Portegys/Tony)

>Mead,

is THE BEST. We all know that. Thanks to him I can consider myself somewhat of a decent/average programmer.

>Bede

is Bede. Easy class and he teaches you all the content in an interesting and funny way with his lovely accent. One of the best Math teachers I will probably ever have.

>Hanson,

he is the most comprehensive teacher I have met in my life. His late policies for cs200 and cs250 have been the best one's I have ever had on my life. Also, he gives you the .pdf with the solutions to every lab, which makes it incredibly easy to study for midterm/final, on top of giving you a nice practice example.
He is always interested in your personal growth and non-class topics when you speak with him after class, such as GAM projects, algorithms or graphics rendering techniques… etc. Yes, his classes might be a *little bit* boring, but his notes on the board and in-class examples are really helpful.
Is the only teacher that goes through the source code of every student and tells them how to optimize your code and gives you a fair grading always, with an option for re-submission. For me, is God Tier, makes Digipen a little bit more human.

>Solorzano

is a great teacher. Personally, I don't like physics, and I'm not nice at them. Her lectures are interesting enough and easy to follow. Her homework are problems for the text book and some non-textbook problems that she always solves in class. Her quizzes are easy, lets you have a cheat-sheet and its between 3 people. Without putting too work, I'm passing her physics classes with a nice grade, and I actually learnt a couple of things which are really interesting from the phy field.
Her approach outside lectures is really nice. She will stay with you after class as much time as needed if you didn't understand something or you have a question about physics which was not covered in class at all. She loves physics and tries to make them enjoyable for the majority that we don't care about the class. I will take her again, despite what other people think.

I enjoyed other teachers such as Boerkoel and Volper, but I disagree with some of their methodologies.
Still, they know their material and are above average teachers (personal opinion ofc).

Pd:
>Duba
Why is he not on the list? :'( *cries* *watchdog*

7979fc No.1685

Maybe we need a publicly modifiable Google form or something so that the tier list can be constantly updated.

My main suggestion if we were to do that would to make god tier require a certain amount of nominations, same for below shit tier.

ae55ac No.1717

>>1682
Duba's not on the list because as a second year BSGD I'd never had him. Well not after CS101 where he seemed like a total bro. However, I'm not familiar enough to comment.

Where would -YOU- put him?

7979fc No.1740

>>1717
I'd put him at mid tier
