 No.267[Reply]

Board owner of >>>/hope/ here. We would appreciate if you could add us to your listings under "Lifestyle Discussion: Health and Self-Improvement", as that seems to be the closest fit for a board dedicated to organizing charity and assistance for depressed, mentally ill, NEET and hikki anons. We're kind of a cross between /improve/ and /kind/, with a dash of /christ/ thrown in.

Thanks, and if you add us we'll add you to our board ring as the first entry!

 No.214[Reply]

Post board reviews in this thread

 No.232

/v/

User base: 2/5

As to be expected with any video game board you will have your kiddos, but the amount of childishness can hit an unbearable threshold from thread to thread. Another problem is the inherently divisive nature of console wars and the wholesale criticism of a series. This inevitably leads to wading through a lot of bait and shitflinging that can make each thread more of slog to get through than it is probably worth.

Moderation: 3/5

Mark is active, and some may say too active, but in general he kind of gives a shit and is very much accountable for his actions due to his frequent activity on the board. However dubsposting can derail a thread faster than a Kremling on a Spanish train. Sometimes dubs are used effectively to end a shitty bait thread, and other times, jimcarreypointingupatnumbers.jpg can result in a difficult read for each thread. Cyclical threads are used wisely and stickys aren't always crowding the top of the page.

fun: 2/5

None of it is allowed and the fact you would expect fun on /v/ is silly. There are however a great deal of community efforts made to make the place fun to be a part of. But if you're having fun doing it you're not doing it right and you should gitgud. Friday threads and 4am threads are still pretty interesting to take part in, and is a perfect example of how a community can get together and feel so miserable.

OC: 1/5

Due to the fast post rate it can be hard to generate a handy meme or something exclusively known to be from 8/v/, but even then many of the memes posted are very uninspired or originated on cuckchan.cuck and 8/v/ hasn't really made a meme in a long time and it may just be due to the speed of the boards not allowing silly things to be formed.

Is it better than cuckchan's version?

In some ways they're very similar, but all the benefits of 8chan allow this /v/ to be much more user oriented and smaller communities and slower post rates work in favor of 8/v/. So it is better than cuck/v/, if only slightly so.

Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

 No.233

/v/

User base: 5/5

As far as 8chan boards go, /fit/ is the best of the best. Although it is obviously by 8chan standards of conduct, almost all users actually want to help each other, and will be constructive in a sense instead of insulting immediately. They are more friendly to each other and more mature. There are often arguments but they actually have a point. The community's knowledge on fitness is overall very good, even though I doubt most of them have any actual experience with lifting, and just like to shitpost. Interesting posts come up, and interesting advice.

Moderation: 1/5

Ironically, /fit/ is one of the boards with least drama despite having almost no moderation. It's because the user base is so mature that we don't need to give a shit about moderation.

fun: 3/5

Most people don't come to /fit/ for fun but to learn something new and improve their lives. That being said there are also dank memes and I only really have fun posting on /fit/. It is the intellectual's version of fun.

 No.237

>>232

/v/irgin here and I agree with this, sadly

 No.248

/his/ - History

User base: 4.5/5

The only thing keeping them from a perfect score is something I recognize as a result of mutually exclusive qualities regarding great boards. The few there are well versed, researched, and, generally speaking, still fun to discuss with. The only problem is how slow it is. It's a damn shame too because it was at a good speed only last year and whenever it would pop into the Top 25. Otherwise, they're a no bullshit and incredibly intelligent group of people.

Moderation: 5/5

Job made easy thanks to a slow post rate, but the presence of informative and useful stickies make the board look not only interesting, but educational.

fun: 4/5

It depends on if you have fun learning about the topic at hand. History is not only fun to learn, but useful as well. My bias towards history is showing here as I find almost all history intriguing to learn, but the board occasionally hosts movie nights and I believe made a showing at the 8chan Cup.

OC: 1/5

As far as imageboards go, I don't think /his/ has a community large enough to really warrant a distinguishable aesthetic that can result in many memes or other content. This shouldn't be seen a negative at all in regards to the quality of the board.

Better than cuckchan's version?

>implying cuckchan would even allow this good idea to flourish

Overall: /his/ should be recognized as a triumph of the 8chan model. It's a user created board with a well versed user base and a generally loyal one at that. Other than its slow post rate, there is not much one can do to fault the people who browse there. If you can not only learn, but have fun while doing it, then you have someplace special. /his/ as of today is a model of a great imageboard community.

 No.252

>>248

>OC: 1/5

that's a bit harsh, if nothing else /his/torically relevant edits of old memes are done relatively often

then there are some goldmine threads like >>>/his/16755

 No.235[Reply]

Seriously, good on the Board Owner for making this, definitely keeping this faved.

 No.251

I have to agree. Almost daily, I come here. The detailed structure of the board makes this excellent for exploration and navigation.

 No.231[Reply]

What subject says.

I think board owner has done great job in creating a non-biased board list, alternative to the one presented by 8chan's inherent system. Since 8chan was all about user-moderated boards, why not have an user-moderated boardlist as well?

 No.92[Reply]

How about board reviews?

A brief description of the board that show more than just the topic and name, but factors including:

>General Quality of Posting

>Speed of the Board

>CSS

>Board Owner Behavior

>Best Traits

>Worse Traits

>You might like this board if you like…

>If you like this board you might also like…

and so on.

These could either be made by the board owner or made by the users and approved by the board owner. Naturally, there should be a set of standards, like maximum length. Preferably, they would follow the idea of the stickies, with different threads for different topics, and perhaps one review per post. If possible, a comment by the board owner of the board being reviewed could be included.

It is predictable that this could be abused in some way, but as long as the BO keeps a close watch, it could be a valuable resource.

 No.204

>>182

maybe you ought to try it again for a week, now that the ads will be bringing in some more anons

 No.205

>>204

Maybe I'll do that. If you all want, you can make reviews in another thread or something, and I'll link them or arrange them in the morning. Too tired to put the system back up again.

 No.210

>>205

you could just make one thread for board reviews, if it catches on, then you could make a thread for each section like before

 No.213

>>210

You all are free to create threads on it, too. I might make little summaries for boards that are similar to one another.

 No.126[Reply]

Why is /kind/ categorized as "Not shitpost-friendly"?

Take note that I'm not asking you to change it.

Seems really comfy. Not my kind of board, but I like a lot of what I'm reading.

 No.167

Put a link to /dir/ in our board adverts thread >>>/kind/7089 Hope It helps. Have you thought about shilling this board?

 No.168

>>167

I do a little subtle shilling here or there, mainly on /boards/ and /operate/ when people bitch about a lack of variety in boards. I'm not a fan of bluntly clubbing people over the head with something. I might take out an ad if I fall upon a pile of money or something.

would you mind making a non-sticky thread for people to add boards for you to decide whether or not put put them on the list? basically so people don't have to go to the thread on /boards/ if they want you to add a board they like

 No.157[Reply]

Hello, /dir/.

A pleasant and orderly directory.

I would like to recommend four boards to be placed underneath the Religious section.

>>>/eris/ [discordian board, riddles and popes abound]

>>>/satanic/ [lhp and occult-oriented discussions and philosophizing]

>>>/satan/ [anti-abrahamic satanic conversation]

>>>/satanworship/ [open spiritual/religious cyber-prayer/ritual board]

 No.158

Before I forget- two more recommendations:

>>>/fringe/ [occult-based discussion, debate and theory]

>>>/x/ [paranormal, spirit-based conversation and debate]

 No.159

>>158

/fringe/ and /x/ were added long ago, under hobbies. They're not religious, though. I might move them to lifestyle, since hobby doesn't really describe what they're about, and they'll fit in better with the survivalist board, /wrol/.

I'll add the other four. /satanworship/ looks pretty dead, so it might go away in the future.

 No.141[Reply]

Just did a cleanup, removed some dead boards. Gonna make a few guidelines for what I use to count as a dead board.

If you want your board put back up, or have a board you see that's missing, drop me a line!

 No.142

Also, added a bunch of boards and decided to ignore the claim rule. Give them a look!

 No.139[Reply]

>>>/bunker/

Can /bunker please be added to General shitpost friendly?

It's a backup/raid time board for /b. It's meant to be like the old bunker sub domain.

 No.140

Added for now. Looks pretty slow, though.

 No.133[Reply]

>no posts for a week means the board can be claimed

Seriously m8?

Posting to keep this from being stolen

 No.134

Before that happens, you or your volunteers are getting a message. The entire system is human run since the owner of /cure/ abused the automatic system. from before for claiming /ebola/ and then nuking it. Also one BO login is enough for taking it out of the claimlist.

I know that, because I need this information for making fun of /intl/

 No.135

>>134

My board was on the claim list even though I just logged in the day before.

Also, that sucks about /ebola/. That's one of my favorite boards on the site.

 No.124[Reply]

neofags goes under gaming.

hobbies and lifestyle have some mix ups too I think.

countries should be their own directory.

I have some other issues with the ordering too.

 No.125

>>>/neofags/ is about a message board, not games, therefore it's web culture. Countries will stay as is until there are enough active English general discussion boards or enough active non-English boards, especially specialty boards to merit them having their own topic.

Regarding hobbies and lifestyles, what's wrong? They're far from mutually exclusive, but we'd end up with a bunch of boards buried under "Post too long" if I combine the two.

 No.104[Reply]

please add /desu/ to the web culture section, thanks and Desu~

There are some categories that would be useful to not be misc.

First of all. Directories under general. >>>/dir/ >>>/boards/ and any number of other redirection based boards would be here. Not much, but I could see this being a really relevant category that people would use a lot.

The "I don't want to talk just give me the goods" category if you will. >>>/n/ might be useful with it's format here.

Next. Meta. You know what this will include. >>>/operate/ >>>/meta/ obviously. But also things like >>>/polmeta/

There are a ton of board specific metaboards and it would be a shame not to have them in a directory.

 No.97

>First of all. Directories under general. >>>/dir/ >>>/boards/ and any number of other redirection based boards would be here. Not much, but I could see this being a really relevant category that people would use a lot.

I hope so! If there are other boards aside from >>>/boards/ and >>>/dir/ that are good for this, I'll make a category. They'd probably go in the meta category if I was to make one, along with a board for, say, CSS help.

>The "I don't want to talk just give me the goods" category if you will. >>>/n/ might be useful with it's format here.

>>>/n/ is a discussion board regardless of its format, and was created to be an alternative to >>>/pol/ due to HW's disappointment with various stages of moderation there. It's a political board first and foremost, even if it has a different spin on it. That's part of the point of this board, not just to give exposure to boards of different categories, but to give boards that are alternatives to larger boards exposure, in case people want an environment different than the one the large board offers them.

>Next. Meta. You know what this will include. >>>/operate/ >>>/meta/ obviously. But also things like >>>/polmeta/

>There are a ton of board specific metaboards and it would be a shame not to have them in a directory.

That's a thought, but I can't see those boards being of much interest to users outside of those dealing with those boards. If the larger boards that have meta boards do such a poor job of giving them exposure that people rely on >>>/dir/ to find them, that means that the people running those boards are terrible.

If there are enough boards around for discussing 8ch and the various events here, like >>>/nPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

What about >>>/e/?

Maybe rename "Fetish" to "Sexual Interests" or something more general? Fetish = "a form of sexual desire in which gratification is linked to an abnormal degree to a particular object, item of clothing, part of the body, etc.", for example some yurifags object strongly to having yuri labelled as a fetish.

Or maybe just "Adult" like halfchan does. (What about SFW boards that may be themed around a sexual interest, like a SFW /cuteboys/, /y/ or /u/?)

 No.75

Just read your guidelines, that explains why /e/ isn't there, how'll you be checking the claims list?

Manually or do you have an automated script to alert you when boards are moved off and on the claims list?

 No.76

>Maybe rename "Fetish" to "Sexual Interests" or something more general?

I didn't know the word was such a contentious topic. I'll change it to "Sexual interests and niches."

>What about SFW boards that may be themed around a sexual interest, like a SFW /cuteboys/, /y/ or /u/?

I could give them their own topic, if there are enough boards out there. Right now, I don't think there are.

>Manually or do you have an automated script to alert you when boards are moved off and on the claims list?

Manually. I'm not too good at scripting. You can claim the board if you want it added, though.

Figure I'll put this here

I nominate >>>/shota/ for sexual interests and niches (seeing as it has 5000 posts and could use the some attention)
