I thought /diy/ might help, I have a large amount of books that I would like to convert to pdf. Does anyone know how I could do this without taking pictures or buying a machine for it?

there are some companies who will do it for you, like 1dollarscan. the name is misleading though, it's more like $1/100 pages + costs for OCR or other extras. and of course shipping.

if you'd rather scan them all yourself you can try a library or a copyshop

unless you are converting books with images you might want to convert to a text format rather than a print/image format.
