No.1013
I didn't see one, so thought how about a thread for book discussion? Where we can talk about and recommend books to each other?
No.1016
>>1013Engines of War.
The end!
No.1028
>>1016I take it Engines is good then? I was reading one book per Doctor, but I'm done with that idea. I wanna get to that one, and just got 12's books as well
No.1036
I've read Ten Little Aliens, Dreams of Empire, The Wheel of Ice, Scales of Injustice, Last of the Gaderene, Harvest of Time, Corpse Marker, Festival of Death, Shada, Fear of the Dark, Sands of Time, Players, Illegal Alien, Shakedown, EarthWorld, Winner Takes All, Only Human, The Deviant Strain, Sting of the Zygons, Beautiful Chaos, Prisoner of the Daleks, Hunter's Moon, Touched by an Angel, The Silent Stars Go By, Dark Horizons, The Dalek Generation, Plague of the Cybermen, Shroud of Sorrow, Tales of Trenzalore and Silhouette, if anybody wants an opinion on any of those
No.1047
>>1036Is Sands of Time a good sequel to Pyramids of Mars? Been intrigued by that book as Pyramids was my favorite story as a kid
No.1054
>>1047I don't think I'd really call it a proper "sequel", but it involves the Osirans and the mummies and all that
I liked it, but it's kind of all over the place with timey-wimey stuff from before it was popular
No.1058
>>1054Would you recommend it if I were to pick one fifth Doctor book to read?
No.1059
Anyone read any VNAs? I'm making my way through a handful of them
Timewyrm: Revelation - GOAT/10
Love and War - GOAT/10
Human Nature - GOAT/10
Birthright - 8/10
The Left-Handed Hummingbird - GOAT/10
No Future - 7/10
No.1066
>>1059Not yet, I'm going through a few others, then hitting all the VNAs in order. Followed by the EDAs. I need a kindle or something, as I'm stuck reading them on my shitty laptop
No.1073
>>1058Nah, that'd be Fear of the Dark, easily
No.1080
>>1073Not heard of that one, but then I've not heard much about any 5th Doctor books. Or 6 come to that
No.1097
>>1080It's pretty great, and in a roundabout way I guess it kinda vaguely works with Listen a bit sorta
No.1101
>>1097I'll have to check it out at some point, too many books, too little time
No.1118
I became a Who fan during the Wilderness Years, so the books are almost more real Who to me than the show.
No.1595
Reminder that books
No.1783
Read all Missing Adventures and New Adventures.
Working on 8th Doctor now.
Family of Blood was stolen from a New Adventures novel, and the 7th Doctor was so much colder to the lady than 10 was.
The loom stuff from the books seems to be BTFO on NuWho, as we've seen Gallifeyan kids, the lil' master looking into the vortex and the Doctor's crib. Sad, really, I liked Lungbarrow.
No.1785
>>1783>Family of Blood was stolen from a New Adventures novelSame author, can you steal things from yourself?
No.1787
>>1785Yeah, sorry, I should have said recycled.
No.1788
>>1783The only thing contradicted from Lunbarrow and Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible is the no children on Gallifrey. Looms could still be a possibility.
No.1826
>>1059Just started on Timewyrm Genesys, as I recently finished watching McCoy's run on the show. So far, it's okay. Not blowing me away, but I'm enjoying it.
No.1837
>>1826The 2nd and 4th books are the superior parts of the Timewyrm arc
No.1850
I'm in a predicament where I have begun a bunch of Doctor Who books, but can't seem to figure out which ones I should finish first.
No.1852
I spent a credit for "11 Doctors 11 Stories" on Audible yesterday, so I look forward to listening to it during my commute this week. Will probably report back here.
No.1855
>>1852Who reads the stories? Is it one person for all, or someone different each time?
No.1856
>>1855I think it's someone different each time. Again, haven't started listening to it, but I read in the reviews that Briggs, Sophie Aldred, and Frazer Hines read some of the stories. I'm googling right now, and Charlie Higson and Peter Kenny also read. The whole thing got meh reviews for the stories and the narrators - it's certainly not Big Finish - but hell, 12 hours of audio for 1 credit seemed to be too good to pass up.
No.1860
>>18561 credit? What, where, how?
No.1863
>>1860Audible users get 14 credits a year, IIRC, and they can be used to buy audiobooks. Usually 1 credit per book, from what I can see.
No.1867
>>1863Nice, might sign up as I like a good audiobook every now and then
No.1868
>>1867Yeah, I've been enjoying my subscription thus far. Also been trying to get more into Big Finish, though, so there's that.
No.5071
I'm reading Earthworld right now. Anji's not that bad, actually.
No.5078
>>1058Goth Opera is another good Fifth Doctor book.
No.5097
Currently reading Timewyrm Revelation. There's something very Moffat about this book. By which I mean Moffat probably read it and shamelessly ripped it off.
Good shit so far.
No.5359
>>5097Timewyrm Revelations is the best.
I've been reading Vampire Science. I'm remembering why I like novel Eight so much–his earnestness, his ability to believe the tiniest thing is important, and his pacifism.
No.5366
>>5359I've been trying to get into the VNAs. I gave up on Genesys, will probably read Exodus sometime soon.
Only read one EDA years ago, any recommendations there? I hear they're not as good as the VNAs, but I still want to give them a try.
No.5774
>>5366Exodus is a big improvement over Genesys.
No.5778
>>5366Skip the Eight Doctors. Vampire Science and Alien Bodies are both GOAT beginnings.
No.5780
>>5359>pacifism>one of the first things he does in the novel is drive a stake through someone's heart No.5830
>>5780Well, you know what I mean.
No.5843
>>5780Vampires aren't really people so it's okay.
No.5911
Any Faction Paradox fans?
I think I might be a bigger fan of it than proper Who.
No.5912
>>5780He also straight up shoots someone in the face with a pistol later.
No.5916
>>5911I've read Alien Bodies and Inteference 1 and 2. Only recently have I had th chance to read some actual Faction stuff. How does FP compare to Who?
No.5981
>>5916It's very deliberately obtuse and occasionally clever.
No.5983
>>5981Sounds exactly like what Lawrence Miles would be involved in.
No.6771
>>5911It would be cool if FP ever returned to the Whonisverse.
No.7058
So I read The Slitheen Excursion, it wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting
Pic clearly unrelated
No.7059
>>7058>Pic clearly unrelatedthen there's no reason to post it
No.7060

I'm kinda shocked
Pic almost related, wings are involved
