the new interior better have a huge light show going on or it's not going to make up for the single floor room with excessively thick pillars surrounding the console, severely limiting the angles that can be used around there

pickwoad spoiled us, he designed a set that was just as much about optimal usability as it was visual aesthetics. It's easily the most intelligently designed interior both in terms of practical and visual purposes

I can honestly say that I've been asked a million times why I play games. And I normally just shrug and say "It's a hobby.", but that's a lie. Because when I'm in game, I'm at home. From the flames of cataclysm to the icy mountains of Tamriel, anywhere I venture, is a place I love and know. My entire life people preach that I could be anything that I wanted to be. But when I told them I wanted to be the captain of a ship, a spaceship, THE spaceship that saves humanity. That I wanted to be Commander Shepard they told me I need to get a grip on reality. And to them to them a grip on a reality means the American dream, working nine to five crammed up in a tiny cubicle having two-point-five kids, a two story suburban house and a white picket fence. I divorce once, and I'd have debt into my early thirties because I took some bullshit university degree that's suppose to help me in the end.

This isn't reality, this is just a dull outlook on it. Now I understand it's human nature to achieve greatness, but I can do this as Commander Shepard, I don't need a degree. And if I want to go on an adventure I don't ever have to leave the comfort of my home. Yet, people spend an entire salary to travel and I can't help but laugh. I've single-handedly stopped a reign of ancient wyverns from destroying a nation, but before I could do that do I had to:

Learn their language. Become a master in Swordsmanship, Smithing, Archery, Defense, Magic, Speech, Hunting and Thieving!

Not to mention I had to take down an entire fleet of assassins along with a brigade of smugglers before I could even START my lessons in Dragon's Speak. I've always enjoyed an adventure, but I hated pawning my limbs to afford an eighteen-hour car ride. And aside from being told that I can enjoy a white-picket fence at the end of my career, all my years as a student was balance between Fractal Formulas and believing I never be able to love which is literal INSANITY. I've saved Princess Peach. I wanted to be the guy, and I became the guy. I saved Bandage Girl. And I've been Link for generations just to save Princess Zelda. But yet, I'm the eternal virgin, I'm the guy that's never going to love.

And sometimes this shit doesn't make sense to me, why people assume that I need to be out doing something and away from home to have fun when I have my own reality grasped between my hands. I have my own world at my fingertips, if I screw something up I can rewind time. I can't do that in real life, but when I'm in game I'm free to what I please, when I plEEEase, I'm free to enjoy things the way I want to. I can build my own Kingdom and lead my people to freedom because I'm the mind behind the game. I'm the one who enjoys these games.

I am a gamer - and I always will be.

Well they feel intrinsically linked in so many ways. I guess the most material link between them is Hurran and the surreal atmosphere he lends to both of them—two terrifying, claustrophobic places in Apalapucia and the hotel. Amy is fractured in both stories, the old embittered Amy in TGWW and the ghost of young Amelia in TGC, both of which are murdered by the Doctor.

The sheer pottery in having the Doctor acting at his cruellest and most untrustworthy in TGWW followed by him having to account for these flaws in TGC is kino and probably my favourite juxtaposition of two discrete adjacent stories in Doctor Who ever. The Girl Who Waited / The God Complex is one of the best series finales the show has ever pulled off.

YES! Elder god take that I've been on board with since not long after they aired, those two episodes are peak duology. Arguably, The Girl Who Waited breaks the show so much that The God Complex HAS to come after it. (You could call it the Ponds' Kill The Moon moment.) While part of the genius of TGWW is that nobody ever brings it up again later or voices the trauma experienced during it, that trauma is nonetheless subtextually processed in TGC; it can be no coincidence that the Doctor is suddenly hugely concerned about Amy dying one episode after he killed her.

Furthermore, Amy comes out of TGWW having been unconscious for the worst of it, not directly witnessing the unbelievably cruel decision the Doctor imposed on Rory. So a follow-up story about the fact Amy's faith in the Doctor is unshaken (while Rory, intriguingly, is a total sceptic) fits perfectly.

Plus they're both about welcoming institutions that develop a horrible second purpose (TGWW is about a hospital that becomes a prison, TGC is about a hotel that's secretly a sacrificial labyrinth). But even I never noticed the older Amy/young Amy parallel before.

I still don't consider them the series finale though. I think 11's actions in TGC are inextricable from his self-pity over going to his death; he says they'll see him again but as far as he knows they probably won't. He says he's just keeping their physical safety in mind, but on a deeper level he's refusing to emotionally commit to them, which continues throughout TWORS when he refuses to confide in anyone that he found a way of escaping Lake Silencio.

Every time I think about the episode it hits me again how poorly directed it is, it's a joke, if it was an American movie it would get memed to death on /tv/ because so many moments of the storytelling slowly become funnier the more you consider them.

It's an damning argument against doing "cinematic" Doctor Who in the first place, it's not only tone-deaf but littered with embarassing attempts to hide the show's lack of budget (remember that shot where Tim Shaw smashes the glass in the crane, but it cuts away just before we see his hand hit it? Why would you even do a shot like that if you couldn't pay it off?) and falls victim to style over substance on every single level.

What was the thought process behind the railings magically disappearing? Did nobody consider you couldn't jump off the crane with a waist-high handrail until they got to shooting that sequence, and it was too late to reshoot everything else they had already done with the handrail in place?

It happens when crane guy jumps as well, it goes straight from a shot of him cowering against the pole to him jumping off, they don't show a run-up but they also don't show him getting up onto the railing either

If you want the same sort of feeling as a NewWho series gives I'd recommend looking around for what Classic era might interest you most then doing it in order. S25-S26 is a great one and quite RTD style (well, RTD was quite Cartmel-style, same difference). S18 I think would appeal to Capaldi era fans. The Holmes eras should appeal to basically anyone. There's a shitload of different Classic eras and they all have pretty different tones/appeals.

>So The Doctor builds a new sonic starting from scratch and melts down about 10 steel spoons to do it. It made me wonder and I math'd the heck down of it (I use metric system, dwi):

>-an average spoon weights about 55g, 55g*10=550g

>-given 8000kg/m³ as steel density, the volume would be about 70cm³

>-pretending the Sonic is a cylinder, long as Jodie's face, or 17cm, the volume would be V=πr²h

>-solving for r, we get 1.15cm, doubling it for 2.3cm thickness, which is about what we see

>The problem is: that's the case. It should have room for the light inside and the other components, bringing me to one conclusion:

>the new Sonic is bigger on the inside. Or she didn't use all the molten steel, but the first one was funnier

I don't get the direction especially in the early part of the episode, horrible takes. Surely there was a better delivery on the cutting room floor. It was almost a shatner-esque or stage delivery, over selling of every syllable.

>>114564

I think she's as cute as a button in her interviews, but not sold on her as the doctor, yet. Her doctor seemed sweeter, I'll agree. Winning? Is that what you think it’s about? I’m not trying to win. I’m not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It’s not because it’s fun. God knows it’s not because it’s easy. It’s not even because it works because it hardly ever does.. I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT! Because it’s decent! And above all, it’s fair play! It’s just that.. Just fair play.

If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live. Maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, you know, maybe there’s no point to any of this at all. But it’s the best I can do. So I’m going to do it. And I will stand here doing it until it kills me. And you’re going to die too! Some day.. And how will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand.. Where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just sort out fair play throughout the universe?

The stenza were fine for one episode. Just a generic baddie to set up Jodie Whittaker's Doctor. He's a generic predator parody, but that's ok for an episode that isn't focusing on the villain anyway, it has characters to set up. Prisoner Zero was similar. Why was it in prison? Did it have something to do with Trenzalore, or the Silence? If not why did it bring that up? Doesn't matter to me, the 11th hour isnt focusing on Prisoner Zero anyway.

But imagine if Prisoner Zero, or Prisoner Zero's species was shaping up to be an arc that season? jesus fucking christ.

Tooth guy is even more bland, because he's so generically a predator hunting humans. I hope to god the reference in episode 2 is just a reference, but it sounds like it might be a fucking arc. gross

This is genuinely a mindfuck. When you watch the Tim Shaw scenes and he's dumping all that stupid exposition about himself, it makes more sense to interpret it as a self-aware parody, something that's not taking itself completely seriously, and that's okay because he's just a run of the mill villain for the Doctor to trounce in her first adventure.
