I heard there was some racial equality afoot in this star system?

He has the power of time travel, possibly even space travel… an entire universe laid out before him, with endless possibilities, and yet he chooses to be cosmically racist.

Memes aside who the fuck thought "Cosmic Racist" sounded good? I was jokingly calling him a time traveling racist but for the show to not only admit that, but give him a sillier name than that? Jesus you can't make this shit up

>it's a "baddie misses the heroes at point blank range" episode

Moffat: There is equality in the future

Chibnall: There's space white supremacists

What if the twist is he is a cosmic woketard who travels back in time to "be a good ally" to Rosa Parks and apologize on behalf of whitey?

he devoted so much time to hating minorities that he forgot to go to aim training

Big Finish presents The Celestial Toymaker vs the Cosmic Racist

Are we sure it's an official wording? Is it from BBC?

It's not from the BBC.

>From What’s on TV magazine:

> The Doctor and her companions travel back in time to Montgomery Alabama in 1955, where they meet Rosa Parks, a legend of the US civil rights movement. But they’re up against an evil criminal called Krasko who’s determined to prevent the fight for equality.

>From TV & Satellite Week magazine:

> …when the Doctor detects a strange energy source coming from Montgomery’s bus depot, she realizes the might not be the only time travellers in town. A criminal called Krasko plans to stop the bus boycott, yet the cosmic racist has met his match in the Doctor and her friends. Inspired by Parks and determined to make his late grandmother proud, Ryan is willing to do whatever it takes in the fight for equality.

> …viewers will be shocked by the abuse Ryan is subjected to in the opening scenes.

Would listen

Chibnall is writing each episode with the intention of teaching young children important moral lessons:

>twwfte: don't rebel against the orders you're given or you'll fall off a big crane and die

>tgm: teamwork makes the dream work

>rosa: racism is bad, cosmic racism is worse

>spiders: spiders

Note that both magazines specify he's a criminal.

chibnall actually hates doctor who and this is all part of his five year plan to get the show cancelled again

I appreciate there's a missed opportunity with Brian, River and Anthony, but it makes far more sense to have Rory actually writing the message to his dad. This person is severely confused.

And why the fuck would River have come up in The Power of Three when she didn't even come up in Asylum, Moffat's episode which makes a point of the events of Demons' Run?

I remember when Jodie was announced the consensus seemed to be "well at least Moffat isn't writing the first female Doctor" but fucking hell so far there's absolutely nothing notable or interesting about 13 other than the fact that she happens to be a woman now.

Compare TWWFTE to The Eleventh Hour and you can really see how incredible that episode is. Moffat manages to continue right where RTD left off and carry the weight of the past 5 years and still manage to be 100% accessable to new viewers. The concepts of the Doctor, regeneration, as well as the TARDIS/Time Travel are all explained for new viewers to understand without feeling heavy handed for returning viewers. We're introduced to Amy and Rory, introduced to the Cracks, and the Pandorica/"Silence Will Fall" are all established as the new arc for this series. Most importantly, it firmly establishes 11 as his own character, stepping out of the shadow of 10 in the eyes of the viewers and planting his feet right next to him. All this in under 60 minutes. Moffat took everything to its full potential in that episode.

The Woman Who Fell To Earth doesn't establish the Doctor as an alien time traveler. The new companions are just kinda along for the ride by means of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Doctor doesn't even invite them to travel with her in the TARDIS, nor do they express any desire to (how could they if they don't even know what it is). She's just like "alright bye" and only keeps them around because she fucked up her transporter thing. Fucking hell the episode doesn't even have the opening titles.

One at a time. What now, what was it? Kronkburger with cheese, kronkburger with pajatos.

I was speaking to someone recently who said The Eleventh Hour was "meh," in the middle of them singing TWWFTE's praises. There's no hope for Doctor Who fans. No hope at all.

I want to eat a kronkburger, can we make this /kronk/ now

I forgot to add that the worst part is that Jodie genuinely has the potential to be an iconic Doctor, but she's being written in a way where there's nothing interesting or notable about her personality. Every Doctor has had their specific identity established in their introductionary episode. I genuinely couldn't tell you anything about 13 other than "she's a woman", and even that isn't part of her personality in any way

Harold Saxon got mentioned in both Dark Water and Before the Flood, so whatever was erased, Harold Saxon is still a thing that happened. He rose to power, killed the US president, and got shot by his wife

I think he does something clever with the 'stereo' nature of the audio. Still beyond anything I would understand though to be fair

Series 5/6 is basically the last time any real money was spent on the title sequence until S11.

All of S7's are amateurish edits or clusterfucks that scream "we have no budget to get decent effects artists in".

I just realised

why do the top 10 have a % symbol after their ratings?

9.852% is very low, the rating system is out of 10 not 100

I know off the top of my head that Series 5 was shot on the Sony CineAlta (after Series 1-4 was shot on fucking betacams) and had issues with digital noise that they had to cover with artificial film grain for the blu-ray release (which for the most part looks pretty good) which is why 11's shirt pattern looks weird in certain scenes. Series 6 onwards were shot on Arri Alexa XT's which was a noticable improvement and increased the camera resolution from 1080p to 3.4K, although they definitely finished each episode in 2K. I read somewhere the other day that Series 11 has been shooting with the new Alexa LF which would mean that they're shooting in 4K, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Either way, Twice Upon a Time was just released on 4K UHD blu-ray (has anyone here watched that?) and considering they used the same Alexa cameras that they always used for that I can't see why Series 6-10 can't get a 4K blu-ray release. Most major blockbusters (aside from Star Wars) has 2K digital intermediates and are upscaled to 4K and it looks fine, so I don't see why Doctor Who wouldn't benefit from a similar release. If they upscaled Series 1-4 for blu-ray releases after shooting those on fucking betacams I think they can upscale from 2K to 4K.

Even fucking Sleep No More, from one of the least ambitious writers on the show, did something that no other found footage film had ever done. Having camera footage come from "impossible" viewpoints (eg Clara's) before revealing that this is because the cameras themselves are slowly infesting the characters. Shit ep but it was determined to be unlike anything else in the medium. That was what Doctor Who meant in that era.

What have we got now? Arachnids in the UK.

it's so blatantly apparent that this is what they're going for that they don't even care about showing a fucking door

We know it's got a giant spider in it and the description is "something is going wrong with the spiders in Sheffield". Listen this ain't.

This moment is genuinely incredible. The Doctor draws attention to the door, talks about the door, and the camera just keeps it OUT OF SIGHT like it thinks we won't notice its total invisibility!

this makes me so fucking angry

There MUST have been a better way of disguising the fact they couldn't make a door. Anything, ANYTHING other than having the Doctor point her sonic at the side of the screen

but why couldn't they make a door? I'm pretty sure we see multiple doors over the course of this very episode

Yeah. We saw all the doors they could afford to make. Unfortunately they just couldn't manage getting that one last door into whatever that location they were filming in was.

I liked the Heaven Sent reference in this episode.

>Rachel Talalay said she would've happily returned to direct some episodes but Chibnall wanted a clean slate

>these are the directors he got

fucking hell I'd be happy if he brought back Euros Lyn at this point

but why couldn't they just reuse the same door prop? any of the doors were tall enough to be labelled a "big locked door"

There was probably a perfectly good door, they'd just run out of time to get a shot of it because based Bradders ruined all the takes with fart noises.

cut to a shot angled where the door should be (so the Doctor is pointing the Sonic at the camera). Easy. No one would even think twice watching it if they shot it that way, I don't understand how Chibnall is hiring such shit directors

another hint: both the Heaven Sent shot and the Ghost Monument shot involve a faithful companion of the Doctor.

I'm never going to get it because virtually none of the shots in TGM stood out enough for me to be able to remember them

seriously amazing how they had both ben wheatley and rachel talalay in series 8

talalay's not a big name but she did tank girl and an elm street film at least. are there any other who directors that people outside of who have heard of?

Just fucking say it come on son

Based, all TUAT is supposed to be is an epilogue to the Capaldi era

Talalay is god tier

Does Moffat have a psycho women in boxes fetish or something? First Euros in Sherlock, then Missy in Series 10.

Alright here it is: The Doctor talks to a door on the right side of the screen and it opens by itself.

oh that's interesting

>even with the exact same style of shot, talalay's manages to look better composed

Instrumentation is a bit odd but its not a bad theme

you're right, I went back through her twitter and she said that Chibnall did ask her but her schedule was too full and hopefully she'll be back for Series 12

the theme evokes uplifting emotions and has a sense of a sunrise, a positive new beginning

and yet they chose to use it when the doctor was telling ryan off for using a gun, a scene that was grounded in negative emotions

The problem isn't the theme itself, but its limited application - we're already seeing it get used in ways that create tonal clashes

wow we were robbed of talalay kino

Lads, what if Chibbers has been lying this whole time and the "cosmic racist" on Rosa's episode is a Dalek?

Dalek Krasko?

I'm weighing up dropping the show after S11 if it doesn't improve, but if Talalay is anywhere near S12, I'm there. Imagine Chibnall-era production values in the hands of a director who knows what she's doing.

>The Klan of Skaro

would actually be a good twist

>both the doctor and the bowman character are trying to "stop history from being changed" they both think eachother are the fiend but in reality its a dalekk

Far too interesting.

tfw you don't even want a multi-doctor anniversary episode now because you don't trust chibnall to write it well

Ah ok. Yeah it was super jarring in places.

Hopefully Akinola gets better with the music choices

Don't get hype guys. The cosmic racist wording wasn't from Chibnall, but from one of the magazines describing the ep based on the preview screener.

That is not how references work

God we can only hope. Had the pleasure of meeting her at a con a few months ago, she's fantastic in real life and seemed like she really loved DW and knew stuff about directing

A Chibnall multi-Doctor special would be even less distinctive than The Light At The End.

If that's how people who have seen the episode describe it, doesn't that just confirm how blatant it will be?

Yes it is, just like how episode 1 referenced David Tennant's acting techniques by being full of teeth.

Yes, and also that there isn't a clever twist behind it either.

I'll do you one better

>the classic doctors are all racist

>12 punches them for racism

>both the doctor and the bowman character are trying to "stop history from being changed"

What if it's like Klein and the guy comes from an alternate timeline where the civil rights movement was unsuccessful and Trump is the ruler of the world?

>hear 10 say racial slurs

Honestly don't understand why S11 is so bad tho, his S7 scripts maybe weren't up to much plot-wise, but the regular characters were well-written and Brian was based.

does it not fuck with anyone else's head that the one persistent NuWho writer who didn't contribute even a single episode to the Capaldi era, and hadn't written an episode since 2012, is the one tasked with creating the followup in 2018? That's screwed in so many ways. It's like a line of succession has been broken and development has been lost.

>classic Doctors are sexist

>13 proves them wrong by being better than them in literally everything

>beats up 3 with venusian aikido

Whithouse should have been showrunner

*Matheson, my bad

What is it that chibnall did well in broadchurch, that people know him for?

What of those attributes has he carried into doctor who?

Not really. I wouldn't mind if it was someone who'd never written for the show before so long as they did a decent job. And let's face it they couldn't do much worse.

>What is it that chibnall did well in broadchurch, that people know him for?

Thanks, was worried for a bit, keep getting 500 internal server error bullshit

I genuinely think Chibnall was like 4th or 5th on Moffat's list of replacements and everyone else just said no. Gattis 100% was his first choice. Mathieson probably didn't feel experienced enough to take on such a role, but we all know how he became Moffat's protege after Series 8. Whithouse ofc has showrunner experience with Being Human and contributed to every Moffat-era series with the exception of Series 8 and also played the German soldier in Twice Upon a Time.

Whatever happened to Stephen Thompson? He was the 3rd writer with Moffat and Gatiss for Sherlock and wrote for Series 6/7/8 of DW but hasn't written for either show since 2014. Did he have a falling out with Moffat or something?

>Whithouse played the German soldier in Twice Upon a Time

the one that gatiss was in a shootdown with

I must have missed the part where RTD consistently contributed during Classic or Wilderness (Damaged Goods is but one thing).

No, it doesn't. I'd take someone amazing over someone who had written a few episodes before in certain places.

Thompson was always like something of an in-house slave for Mofftiss, I don't think Moffat particularly valued that creative partnership for anything other than its ability to generate words that Moffat could either rewrite completely or ignore.

I'll always laugh at the story about how Thompson pitched a Robots of Death prequel about Taren Capel's backstory for S7, then Moffat just overruled him and made him do Journey instead.

>Moffat actually cares about throwaway lines from the '80s about the amount of regenerations the Doctor has

>makes a point to include the fakeout regeneration from S4 even though only direhard fans would even care about that counting

>"raping the lore"

also the idea that Moffat is only going to be remembered for giving the Doctor a 2nd set of regenerations, something he did after writing the fucking 50th anniversary special, is laughable

>I must have missed the part where RTD consistently contributed during Classic or Wilderness (Damaged Goods is but one thing).

there was a 16 year gap before that point so it would have been moot either way. The fact is that RTD was succeeded by someone who was intimately involved with his era right up to the end, while Moffat was succeeded by someone who was 5 years behind the stylistic progression of the show. There's a certain dissonance there.

boardies truly are fucking subhuman

Moffat commandeering the regeneration limit will be seen by history as a based move. He took it off the table and ensured that nobody could ever attempt to use the regen limit as an excuse to end the show.

Be brought it ahead for the 50th anniversary. Even without John Hurt, Moffat would have written for the last doctor in the cycle but it makes more sense to have something that big in an anniversary year so it feels more special. If it had been the 54th year with Capaldi it would have been lame

How many Nimons have you seen today?

By god I hate people that think that Moffat is a manchild who's sole goal it was to ruin Doctor Who and all of its nonexistent canon. People seriously think that he "shattered canon" whatever the hell that means. For the 50th, he wanted Chris, obviously he said no, so he wanted Mcgann, but the BBC said no, so he had no other option but to make up a new Doctor, but people make it out as if he was sitting at home going "muahahahaha I will put a secret Doctor in here so that I can change the lore and I write how he gets a new set! I'm so special everyone will remember me!"

>he wanted Mcgann, but the BBC said no

Also: 11 being the last incarnation of the cycle is perfect for that episode and the conclusion of 11's arc. The story doesn't work if he can just regenerate and carry on. He has to confront all the things he's been running from during that incarnation; he has to face his own mortality, he has to stay in one place, grow incredibly old and die in order to uphold his principles and protect life. It's beyond fitting for the Doctor who was always envisioned as a child inside.

>Look, think of it like this. Eventually, there will be another TV series of Doctor Who. And it will fail horribly, because inevitably it'll be aimed at the kind of fan-targeted SF market that didn't even exist until Star Trek: The Next Generation came along and spoiled everything. Doctor Who only works as a family adventure series, but when it finally comes back you can bet any money you want it'll be like Babylon 5 or something. It'll only last one series, maybe two. So then the TV programme will be dead forever, the license will be in limbo, and nobody will ever want to pump more money into it as a TV concept. Not a live-action TV concept, anyway. But animation's just getting to the point where it's breaking through properly, especially now there's so many computer-generated effects around and people are starting to forget the difference between "real" film and CGI. Pretty soon, British animation companies… the Cosgrove-Halls of the twenty-first century… are going to realize that there's a massive amount of potential in a British Manga-style movement. We're the perfect country to do that kind of thing, to do the European equivalent of Akira or Ghost in the Shell or whatever. And I want to be there when it happens, and I can't think of a better spearhead for the whole thing than an anime version of Doctor Who. I'm thinking ten years into the future here, obviously.

<So if you got the chance to do this, would you tell the whole story of the Time Lord War as you see it?

>Well, epic wars are great for animation. Planets getting wiped out, million-strong armies of Cybermen marching across battlefields, Time Lord warships the size of moons… brilliant visuals.

We are excited to at last now be able to tell you that there is a major project in the pipeline to bring K9 back as the standalone hero that he deserves to be.

We have entered into a partnership with a major US/UK company and are currently now developing a new multi Million Dollar series/s which will establish the K9 "brand" prior to the release of the feature film.

A K9 film would have been a one off, but with now having a new series to investigate, (which will be set in Space akin to Guardians of The Galaxy etc) we will be establishing our own universe on a much grander scale than we could do before.

OMEGA will still play a part and we haven't dismissed the ideas of other characters such as The Axons, however we are very keen to establish new adversaries and alien creatures for K9 and his new associates to face.

The project will look to appeal to both new and old audiences and there will be more news in early 2019 so watch out on our social media.

Bob and Paul would like to thank #K9fans for their patience while the original plans developed into this far bigger opportunity. K9 will be back with you soon!

>At least when Steven Moffat was crap, it was in ways you could get angry about. Crap Chibnall is just disappointing.

How true is that?

The best Torchwood episodes did not feel anything like Doctor Who, so Chibnall is at a crossroads.

At least when Moffat was shit you could actually get angry about it but still tune in the following week to know whether you'll be (positively or not) surprised, but watching Chibnall writing shit is just so boring and disappointing you don't even want to know what happens next because you know it's exactly what you expected (in a bad way).

These next couple of weeks are the real test for S11

We will find out if the current mediocrity is just chibnall being chibnall, or if the writers he's chosen and/or the writers room dynamic produce something equally weak

Torchwood God Among Us is coming out sometime soon. Let's see Chibs compete with his former home.

I just remembered that Jodie said that something big happens in episode 5.

she also said there was character development

Maybe we'll get something as exotic and unknown. Something called a "plot".

compare the depth of the character development in the capaldi era to "ryan comes to accept graham and call him grandad"

and remind yourself that they're using character development as a selling point for S11

Get hype for Rosa.

>terrible ratings

>Chibnall said the ending scene where Rosa Parks is revealed to be a Stenza is the best scene in the Series

>Chibnall said in DWM that Chris Chibnall(writer of the episode) wasn't going to stick around 'for a long time, I promise you' implying the script is SHITE

>Several Trump and Brexit insults in episode

Graham's cancer resurfaces

They are right that "Come to daddy, I mean mummy, I mean…" is the best line 13 had.

Has Gatiss ever written a story that didn't feel like he was writing for Three and Jo Grant? In all his stories, it feels like he's writing with them in mind instead of the actual Doctor and companion on-screen.

Rose is Rose-y in The Unquiet Dead and Clara is Clara-y in Robot of Sherwood I think

Series 10 is a great series that deserved better episodes, you feel?

Yes but there's nothing wrong with it because the whole point of that scene was to show the Doctor is a hypocrite, it's subdued when he gets outraged at Sutcliffe for being racist and punches him in the face.

>not cosmic

don't care

Which is by the way the only good thing about Thin Ice, otherwise it's a pretty shit episode.

thin ice good

"And really? Rosa Parks? I have… concerns."

Even Sandifer knows it'll be shite

Stupid Sandifer can't even spell check.

Do you really think there won't be any Daleks this series?

maybe, but they could make an appearance in the finale

Reminder that episodes 6 and 9 got swapped, meaning whatever character development or otherwise continuity there is, it is so minor that putting a mid-series episode right before the end makes no difference

No, I'm really glad there aren't daleks in this season

This happened in Series 6 as well, possibly others

>I'm really glad there aren't daleks in this season

>I'm glad we have the Stenza, flying ethereal sheets and COSMIC RACISTS

S6 didn't really have character development either, and the series arc in 6B was essentially just the same reference to "thing will happen" every week until it actually happened

is there a confirmation though

>>120417 meant for >>120412

That's true to some extent, but let's not forget the GOATness of The Girl Who Waited/The God Complex. Closing Time and the finale have solid character development too, but the effectiveness of that is more debatable.

>The Girl Who Waited/The God Complex

they had "big things" happen to the characters, but they didn't really have consequences for how the characters were portrayed in future episodes

unless I'm remembering wrong

Well, I'd say Amy and Rory having their faith in the Doctor rattled resulted in them ditching full-time TARDIS travel come Series 7.

At least is something new that's boring me

>consequences for how the characters were portrayed in future episodes

I don't consider them leaving a consequence regarding their portrayal. Do they even express hesitance at travelling again in S7, or is that completely ignored because of the divorce plot?

Any character development in the Moffat era is thrown out the window by the time the next series starts. Except for Clara who actually had a running theme of copying the Doctor in Series 8 and 9.

>Do they even express hesitance at travelling again in S7

Yeah, that's what the whole of 7A is about. I'm pretty sure there's examples of that in every episode, especially The Power of Three.

>I don't consider them leaving a consequence regarding their portrayal.

Why not? The Girl Who Waited strengthens Rory's love for Amy over his friendship for the Doctor, and God Complex shatters Amy's faith in him, setting up the part in Angels Take Manhattan where Amy chooses to die with Rory than live with 11.

I like Moffat but you're reaching, let's not even pretend Moffat planned this far ahead.

No, it's not reaching when it's laid out in the stories themselves. It just sounds like you're denying the evidence in front of you.

File: 3594f6385d1a3c0⋯.png (691.44 KB, 1506x1072, 753:536, 12h.png)

I love seeing pcap happy

And let's not pretend nothing happened in Series 6. A season where we find out who River is, what casts doubt in Amy's relationship with the Doctor, and 11 showing his crueler side.

>let's not even pretend Moffat planned this far ahead.

Is this a goalpost move or what? Moffat's hypothetical vision board doesn't matter, what matters is on the screen.

>DOCTOR: What can I do?

>AMY: Nothing. It's not one of those things you can fix like you fix your bowtie. Don't give me those big wet eyes, Raggedy Man. It's life. Just life. That thing that goes on when you're not there.

>DOCTOR: So, dinosaur drop off time.

>RORY: Actually, we think home for us.

>DOCTOR: Oh. Fine. Of course.

>AMY: Not for ever, just a couple of months.

>DOCTOR: Right. Yes. I'm pretty busy anyway.

>DOCTOR: Okay, so, our next trip. Oh! You know all the monkeys and dogs they sent into space in the fifties and sixties? You will never guess what really happened to them.

>AMY: Could we leave it a while? Our friends are going to start noticing that we're aging faster than them.

>DOCTOR: Another time? No worry.

And the way Power of Three and Angels deal with this theme is pretty obvious.

>So we have Chibnall grabbing from a heritage within the series that can only be described as idiosyncratic

>Gone is the idiosyncrasy and daffiness of her predecessors

oh no no no on no no no

>Is this a goalpost move or what?

it's a different anon

t. the first anon

Series 5 has Amy and Rory consolidate their commitment to each other which carries through to Series 6. Their relationship with the Doctor at the end of Series 6 affects their role in Series 7. And you already said

>Except for Clara

And Series 8 and 9 had an obvious effect on Series 10 with him having learned from the mindwipe and having a sense of duty to the human race.

fair enough

>The TARDIS interior, on on the other hand, is desperately try-hard, combining the worst and goofiest excesses of the early-Smith TARDIS (delightful in its first shot, progressively more cloying after, and very possibly the worst aging design in series history) with an overwhelming “crystal cave” vibe. It’s hard to imagine what TARDIS scenes are going to feel like here, and not in an exciting way. Worst bits: the custard cream dispenser and the absolutely appalling hourglass control.

Before Ghost Monument came out I thought the premise had a Season 24 vibe but when I saw it I was disappointed with how direly bland it was. Sandifer seems to disagree, but wasn't really successful in articulating why. I'm not sure she's exactly worth her salt as a reviewer, or maybe she's just not trying very hard.

Sandifer seems to be in a state of optimistically hoping for things to improve in the future, so she's going easy on the mediocre start to things. The start of the TGM review essentially states most of the flaws, but she downplays them and says she wants to ignore them otherwise she'd be repeating the same thing every week

Her posts aren't necessarily whole reviews, but observations of things she considers noteworthy

I think the "Eruditorum isn't a review blog, but a look at how Doctor Who has impacted culture as a whole" explanation she made all those years ago has become a shield to justify her inability to write insightful reviews.

Isn't Phil Sandifer a man?

>Jodie Whittaker simply is the Doctor; the character she portrays is as obviously that guy who cleared up a political mess on Tara with some robots as I’m that guy who manufactured a quote and attributed it to a seance with William Blake.

A few months I spoke to a girl at this bar and we ended up talking about Doctor Who. I asked her who her favourite doctor was and surprising nobody, she said 10. She asked who mine was and I told her that I was partial to Christopher Eccleston. For a moment she was confused and thought I meant Capaldi (who I would probably consider amongst my top 3 favourite incarnations) and was visibly shocked and disgusted, and literally laughed at the possibility of someone considering Capaldi their favourites.

Normies fucking disliked him, bros. How? Why? Do we not understand how the average viewer's mind actually works? Is the UGLEEH meme even truer than we thought possible?

My mom's objection was that he was so evil and mean in everything else that it colored her opinion of him permanently.

Isn’t she just acknowledging that a time existed before she transitioned? If she herself is comfortable mentioning it, is there really a problem?

what do you think was going through the writer's mind when they wrote this scene?

The Tsuranga Conundrum is set entirely in the space hospital.

So another who dunnit on a space liner?

This. So much this. It's how fanedits in general work around audio too. Centre channel usually has dialogue, then it's a matter of sorting through the stereo channels and using EQ to squash what you can.

Think of what that faux-continuity error in Flesh and Stone signified, the amount of faith and credit Moffat gave his audience.

>shit ep

Gough and Anderson weren't the standard BBC studios directors, when Minchin got those for S10.

Hopefully it signifies the same will happen in 2021, and Mathieson or, preferably, Harness will run the next era. Reading between the lines I really feel like Whithouse was being set up as the successor though, more than Chibnall, but presumably the failure of The Game (and BBC higher-up changes presumably meaning Whithouse fell out of favour a bit) and the massive success of Broadchurch shifted things. I could be completely wrong though, as Moffat indicated he did talk to Chibnall about it a fair while ago in terms of years.

Unironically, surrounding himself with very talented people, which is not an insignificant trait in a showrunner. The actual writing of Broadchurch is mediocre unoriginal at best and hackily derivative at worst, but it's carried by an exceptional cast and brilliant, moody atmospherics from the visual folks and the composer.

Don't forget that Mathieson and Dollard had already written under Whithouse before they h ad for Moffat; Mathieson was actually the second biggest writer on Being Human.

Good take.

These are pretty hopeless, I'll wait until we're in the next era of Doctor Who from wherein she can safely be critical of Chibnall's Doctor Who without feeling it's subverting her sense of teleological progress and improvement of the series and general well-being before paying that much attention to what she says about the era. Custard Creams are a poor imitation of Jammie Dodgers, themselves a poor imitation of Jelly Babies.

"would you like a jammie dodger?" sounds better than custard cream though.

I can think of a certain type of "cream", perhaps with the consistency of "custard" that one could produce after "jammie"-ing themselves into what one could term a "dodger".

There is a certain variation on what one could refer to as "cream", with a level of viscosity similar to "custard", that can be produced in a circumstance where one "jammie"-s themselves into something I wouldn't think it's entirely unreasonable to refer to as a "dodger".

I had a dream the Twelfth Doctor taught me how to smoke a cigar with my asshole. He even taught me how to blow smoke rings out of my dick hole. I dream about him every now and then.

It’s actually my fantasy now. Doc puts his cigar in my bum and I began to smoke it like a chimney. He bends over and I ash in his rectum. He screams in discomfort; but he loves the pain.

Meanwhile, Clara is tied up in the corner of the room. She has her nipples hooked up to a car battery. Unbeknownst to me, she’s wearing a diaper. She starts to violently shit herself, which causes the room to smell like a truck stop dumpster.

>Jodie Whittaker is a bad actress

She's pretty great in everything else I've seen her in though, just horrible unsuited to playing the Doctor.

I'd argue that Amy's decision in Manhattan is set up way earlier than that, by Amy's Choice in which essentially the same thing happens (Amy chooses the possibility of death/certain separation from the Doctor over a life without Rory).

But you're right to note there is still definitely a change in 11 and the Ponds' relationship after S6. The best way I can think of putting it is, if Manhattan had happened in S6 it would have been like the Doctor used the hold he had over Amy to drag her to a sad ending. After The Power of Three, Amy and Rory have both matured enough in their own lives that they make the decision to fly away again with the Doctor in no illusions about how it might turn out. This leads fittingly into Manhattan, where the Doctor is essentially useless and slowly regressing into a child while Amy and Rory make all the pivotal decisions of the story.

>The idea of Time Lords having sex and getting pregnant just like humans is a bit weird and honestly does not make much sense. What if a female Time Lord regenerates into a man while pregnant? A forced miscarriage basically. That seems rather terrible. Plus Time Lords seem much more advanced that they would be a above little human concepts like having sex. It seems normal for us but rather primitive for the most highest and mightiest race in the universe.

You don't know what's primitive for the highest and mightiest race in the universe; maybe they think sex is the highest and mightiest thing there is! We just never see that, because this is a family show.

I would actually respect that as a creative decision.

The Christian understands the madman because the madman sees the world for what it is, though perhaps his response is poorly calibrated: pregnant with meaning, inscrutable, rapturous, ecstatic. The Catholic is so enamored of the World, in fact, that he consumes the Word which entered it.

The secularist shares nothing with either because there is no meaning save pleasure, efficiency, preference. The only insanity is not to respond to one’s own appetites. The only perversity is worship.

To be frank, it’s boring. What an utterly uninteresting world to inhabit. All conversations about art are reduced to the enthusiastic exchange of platitudes, incommensurable because grounded in esoteric preference. Sex is a slightly mystical, erotic stand-in for eating a big cheeseburger. Health is good because it prolongs life and life is good because, well, nobody wants to die, right? (But life is only good if you were born to a family that wanted and could afford you, if you persist in a state of productivity and happy consumption. Remember this.) Environmentalism is the new religion. Save the world, save yourself by means of its various concrete practices, talk rapturously about the evils and goods of human behavior. Have pets, not children, because my God aren’t children obnoxious. And expensive! Couldn’t spend $25,000 renovating a van to drive around the Western states taking photographs of my aesthetically pleasing life if I had a child.

I am becoming more Nietzschean, I think, as a result of being surrounded by people who have read Nietzsche and misunderstood him. I long for someone truly mad because perhaps they will speak to me as a soul might speak to another.

3 kinos about the Doctor meeting legendary heroes

I'm surprised Moffat or Gatiss never had him meet a James Bond analogue, seems like an obvious sort of thing to do and they'd be the most likely to do it

I'm not sure Moffat would be that interested in Bond. Too much shooting and not enough hyper-intelligence

>I'm with Nardole, I don't understand.

>Really, does being around me not make you more clever by osmosis? What's wrong with this planet? This planet doesn't make any sense. No other life forms except us and the microbes in the water. No people. No animals, no insects, no nothing. But he talked about the old settlements. Which means?

>Something happened, something bad.

>Something that wiped every living thing off the surface of the planet…

>Exactly! So what is the question?

>What happened to everyone?

>No… What happened to everything?

>i only wanted to watch doctor who because i'd seen a picture of the moxx of balhoon

Is it bad that I actually read that with 12, Bill and Nardole's voices?

The Ghost Monument written by Steven Moffat starring Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas.

They should got the VNA dark path to imply that what cause the planet to be barren was the TARDIS crashing there centuries ago as in the audio Creatures of Beauty

Now see if Moffat had written TGM we might have had that, but seeing as though it's Chibnall all we get is the STENZA.

No just a sign that that anon is a far better writer than Chibnall.

Chibnall bad.

>tfw you get to write your Doctor Who story about a COSMIC RACIST

Okay Im in the middle of watching the episode and its "alright" like it isnt making me angry or anything. I really dont mind that its a simple A to B sci fi story and its not like I wanna stop watching

but does anyone find the editing REALLY weird? Like there is a whole speech about the Doctor giving Ryan a pep talk to climb a ladder, and then we skip the actual climb completely. And when the ship crashes it cuts to the people on the ground falling back without a shot connecting it to the crash. And the Doctor creating the EMP blast felt super quick.

Also for some reason after the robots wanna cut off their air they decide to leave the tunnels 5 seconds later, like shouldnt the air in there still give them even half hour at least? Why go immediately into the dangerous night?

Also yeah, you guys (and androzani reviews) make me realise that the Doctor asks a LOT of questions and a lot get ignored. And Chibbs is using the Sonic even more than Moffat did which is an achievement.

Also, I realise that I actually dont like Ryan, he's a complete flatline most of the time, even as an exposition machine Yaz just has better reactions and acting in general. I like Graham too but Ryan is so far a dud.

I actually like the setup and the other characters though, I think Chibnall is good at worldbuilding, just not quite at executing/writing it.

How far would you agree with this statement?

>Capaldi's first two episodes are like literary masterpieces compared to Whittaker's.

100% and I think Into the Dalek is boring af.

I mean Into the Dalek is just a lame repeat of Dalek so its gonna get some greatness just by association

Into the Dalek is kino in its distinction from past eps like Dalek, but Deep Breath makes me want to pull an Extremis.

The Doctor is a retard now, she asks questions aloud expecting answers and gets literally shut down, when previous Doctors would actually keep it to themselves and investigate without telling anyone.

But Deep Breath is GOAT.

It's a four letter word that ends in T, yeah.

I don't really like Deep Breath or Into the Dalek and I agree with that

Elaborate, kiddo.

>every episode from 1963-2017 are like literary masterpieces compared to Whittaker's first 2 eps.

It's still better than any RTD opener or TWWFTE.

In no way is it better than Rose, Smith and Jones, or Partners in Crime, and I say that as a complete Moff>RTD type.

How far would you agree with this statement?

>Colin Baker's first two episodes are like literary masterpieces compared to Whittaker's.

Call me CyberRosa

Okay I paused to write this comment literally seconds before a very cringey scene where all the bandages stand and allow them to do their plan for no reason and also talk like they are Venom

Its like she's asking for the audience rather than the characters

better than Rose or Smith and Jones? lol

11x1 isnt kino, but its better than twin dilemma lol

Thoughts on Call of Duty scene?

All of these introduced new characters, Deep Breath didn't and couldn't have.

It was hilarious (both ironically and unironically) but felt a bit out of place. Like Chib still needs to figure out how to make lighter scenes mesh with the rest of an episode's tone the way RTD could. Like, farting aliens was dumb but it at least felt consistent with the rest of the episode

That's going a bit far. Deep Breath is good though, shits on TWWFTE from a height. It's in the same genre of "messy kino" as Time of the Doctor.

I like Attack. It's by no means a good story but I still enjoy it for the continuity-ridden bloodbath it is. Part Two is where Attack tactically shits the bed several times in a row. Part One is fantastic.

you could cut it out of the episode entirely and it wouldn't change a thing. I don't know why Chibnall wanted to change the episodes from 45 minutes to 50 and sacrifice the amount of episodes to do so if he was gonna fill that time with pointless filler

Imagine S11 with 12 or even 13 episodes. I think I'd fucking kill myself.

Okay, what made the edgy guy so suddenly willing to do a joint win thing? And what made this incredibly rich, powerful guy be intimidated by two backwater planet contestants with seemingly no way off a deathtrap planet? And why would the Doctor silently watch other people threaten him?

Also the same issue I have with Beast Below where the climax of the episode involves someone on their first alien planet telling the Doctor what he/she should be saying to the companion, being the one with all the experience.

Also this

Also focusing so much on "stay out of the water" ended up being pointless.

TARDIS reveal was lame because the reactions were too flat (except Graham) but her actually using it was neat. Chib should just go 100% fluff since stuff like this and the Screwdriver section last episode are always the most interesting things

Jodie is cute! CUTE!

>New Earth is abysmal

>and is worse than TWWFTE

I would contest this.

- New Earth had heart to it - although I didn't enjoy the interactions between 10 and Rose, their annoying-tourist-couple nature that would become prevalent throughout the series was immediately made clear.

- There were undeniably some moments that carried over for the show - take the Face of Boe. This is something Chibnall's clearly trying to do similarly with the Stenza and it's going to fail because there's nothing emotionally driving surrounding them as a concept, despite Grace's death which SHOULD have been the emotional drive.

- New Earth is actually aware of itself as a "fun", energetic and introductory episode. TWWFTE is aware of itself in all the wrong places: the meta-monologue on the crane (the opposite of which being the salad tosser).

- TWWFTE also lags behind because of what it was supposed to be, and never lived up to. Being the first episode of Doctor Who ever to primarily feature a female Doctor, everybody had higher expectations for this one than probably any ep since The Day of the Doctor.

The shopkeeper in Germany does not fawn upon his customers. I accompanied an English lady once on a shopping excursion in Munich. She had been accustomed to shopping in London and New York, and she grumbled at everything the man showed her. It was not that she was really dissatisfied; this was her method. She explained that she could get most things cheaper and better elsewhere; not that she really thought she could, merely she held it good for the shopkeeper to say this. She told him that his stock lacked taste—she did not mean to be offensive; as I have explained, it was her method;—that there was no variety about it; that it was not up to date; that it was commonplace; that it looked as if it would not wear. He did not argue with her; he did not contradict her. He put the things back into their respective boxes, replaced the boxes on their respective shelves, walked into the little parlour behind the shop, and closed the door.

“Isn’t he ever coming back?” asked the lady, after a couple of minutes had elapsed.

Her tone did not imply a question, so much as an exclamation of mere impatience.

“I doubt it,” I replied.

“Why not?” she asked, much astonished.

“I expect,” I answered, “you have bored him. In all probability he is at this moment behind that door smoking a pipe and reading the paper.”

“What an extraordinary shopkeeper!” said my friend, as she gathered her parcels together and indignantly walked out.

“It is their way,” I explained. “There are the goods; if you want them, you can have them. If you do not want them, they would almost rather that you did not come and talk about them.”

On another occasion I listened in the smoke-room of a German hotel to a small Englishman telling a tale which, had I been in his place, I should have kept to myself.

“It doesn’t do,” said the little Englishman, “to try and beat a German down. They don’t seem to understand it. I saw a first edition of The Robbers in a shop in the Georg Platz. I went in and asked the price. It was a rum old chap behind the counter. He said: ‘Twenty-five marks,’ and went on reading. I told him I had seen a better copy only a few days before for twenty—one talks like that when one is bargaining; it is understood. He asked me ‘Where?’ I told him in a shop at Leipsig. He suggested my returning there and getting it; he did not seem to care whether I bought the book or whether I didn’t. I said:

“‘What’s the least you will take for it?’

“‘I have told you once,’ he answered; ‘twenty-five marks.’ He was an irritable old chap.

“I said: ‘It’s not worth it.’

“‘I never said it was, did I?’ he snapped.

“I said: ‘I’ll give you ten marks for it.’ I thought, maybe, he would end by taking twenty.

“He rose. I took it he was coming round the counter to get the book out. Instead, he came straight up to me. He was a biggish sort of man. He took me by the two shoulders, walked me out into the street, and closed the door behind me with a bang. I was never more surprised in all my life.

“Maybe the book was worth twenty-five marks,” I suggested.

“Of course it was,” he replied; “well worth it. But what a notion of business!”
