That was extraordinary, exceptional, one of the very very best episodes in 55 years. Clearly channeling the Hartnell era with a Doctor Who cannot interfere in established history but has to ensure things take their course. The dignity of Rosa, the bubbling contempt of Graham and the people of Montgomery not seeing any wrong in their actions. My son was incensed by it and says it is the best episode he has ever seen - he is upstairs now reading about Martin Luther King. A masterpiece.

I really like how simplistic Doctor Who has been lately.

Past few seasons tried to be oh so clever and then the writers toot their horn about how clever it all was and then it ends up falling short pretty much all the time.

I just really like how basic? And not convoluted everything has been. Even if it’s not everyones cup of tea.

To me "Doctor Who" is about the Doctor. Jodie makes the show with her screen presence. The writing may not be perfect, but it's "Doctor Who" - how good can it really be? The show is about people, not the stupid situations they find themselves in.

For all the haters of the show so far, all I ever see is "Chibnall" and how "pointless" and "a waste of time" the episodes are. What are you talking about? This is Doctor Who! These are some of the dumbest episodes of science fiction you will ever see! There was an episode about aliens harvesting sentient fat from Earth, for crying out loud!

Doctor Who is about people. It's science fiction: dumb as hell, but you we get some great character archetypes.

I think Jodie Whittaker is a fantastic Doctor because she really floats above the silliness of it all. Her emotions translate across the screen that can really transcend the stupidity of it all. That's a good Doctor.

NPC's just the latest buzzword - formerly soyboy, formerly cuck.

It started off with some article about how there are people who don't have inner dialogue (which /pol/ chose to interpret as meaning they aren't capable of any type of thought at all, even though that's not what the article said). I remember there being some reddit post about someone who discovered internal dialogue in their 20s and felt like their mind had opened up. /pol/ used this to attribute "sheeple" type behaviour to lacking inner dialogue. It quickly deteriorated into just referring to anyone who holds a standard 'collective' opinion as an NPC, which naturally works both ways and turned into the shitshow we have now.

I'm sure some people use it ironically, but plenty are genuine and fail to see the hypocrisy.

This is the article that started it all. Note the low sample size.

The main point of the article (which is part of a series) is that there's several different styles of thought/"inner experience". Lacking inner dialogue doesn't mean you aren't capable of having thought process using a different method of inner experience.

Although, sometimes the Doctor each person claims as "theirs" is not necessarily the one that they first watched. I think, if people were to consume equal amounts of content for each of the incarnations (in a fictional world where things like plot/visuals/etc. didn't factor in), the one they choose as their favourite might give a little insight as to what sort of person they are. Although ,it wouldn't necessarily a definitive or even all-encompassing indicator, because you'd never know if they chose that Doctor because they could personally relate, or if they just happened to favour those particular traits in other people.

Unfortunately, favourite Doctors are also chosen based on the quality of their stories, so even if a particular personality resonates strongly with a viewer, they might not necessarily look upon that incarnation favourably if the context in which it existed didn't quite interest them.

Yep, perfect example. My first Doctor was 11, and at the time, I hadn't seen anything beyond what existed of the new series (although I got into it via 11, I went back and watched 9 and 10's stuff after), so he was easily my favourite until I delved into classic and extended universe stuff. Now, my opinion is very changed, but I have a real soft spot for 11, and his departure really hit me hard. It helps that his regeneration scene was one of the best of new who, if not the show as a whole… but that is, obviously, very subjective, and depends on what you're looking for in a scene like that.

Moffat didn't task Whithouse with finishing his story arc. What happened was Harness and Whithouse both had their own ideas for episodes, and Moffat thought, wrongly, that he could work them into a trilogy alongside his own as a way of livening up the middle of S10. Whithouse's episode being shit is still largely on him, there are all kinds of ways that story could have been improved (arguably it might have been flat-out better if it leaned harder into the arc elements, incorporated Missy more, etc.

I just did a search of all tweets containing the word "white" from his account, in reverse chronological order. The latest result is from August. There are a handful from February, March, April, May, and July. It looks a lot like he's just a writer who talks about dealing with racial bias from time to time, in a fairly reasonable manner. You, on the other hand, sound obsessed in a very different way.

Prediction: The best scene in Arachnids will be the one at the end where the companions make the decision to go on another trip with the Doctor, but it still won't be quite as good as it ought to have been.

 No.127273

Ok, here we go, my thoughts on Doctor Who S11E03… 😏

Much better than last week. More cohesive and better character development. Waaaaay too on the nose for my liking, clumsy at times, but I definitely enjoyed this episode a whole lot more 👍

For a guy who "can't act" Walsh portrayed more emotion in one expression than many could in a thousand words. We were seeing this monumental moment through his eyes, his perception. That's EXACTLY how we'd feel, what a companion Graham is turning out to be.

Behold! The greatest encounter your eyes have ever beheld in the history of history!

The Doctor! (Fourth in line) manages to stumble onto the wrong side of an Isolus swarm who use their powers to transmogrify him into a Plasticine form… Why? Who knows! But the important thing is that unlike the realm of drawings they would send him to six lives in the future, he has the fortune to stumble across his new companion… Morph!

Yes! Morph! The native of this land of the desk! (Mysteriously not Tony Hart's desk this time around…) After being offered a jelly baby but turning it down on account of their resemblance to himself, decides to repay the Doctor's generosity by aiding him on his quest for the…uh…key to time! Again!

Witness the tension between K-9 and Nailbrush! Be intrigued over the complex relationship between Folly and Romana! Can the group pull together to rescue Gillespie and the TARDIS from the collective wraith of the Master and…Uh…Chas!

Can Grandmorph and Rassilon really be trusted? Just what is the sinister connection between Brigadier and Goobledegook? Is Folly in league with the Cybermen? And just what happens when Delilah comes in contact with the Hand of Omega…?

Find out in an epic serial that makes "End of Time" seem like a walk in the park! Packed with spills and thrills and Folly's invasion of the planet Telos… Worlds will live, worlds will die. And the universe will never be the same again…

(Aardman and the BBC really need to allow this to happen… But unfortunately I believe the sheer awesomeness may be incomprehensible to them… T_T)

So this is what you should do. Let Doctor Who die. Just let this old show gather dust. No one can make it. No one'll even notice it. Let it become a strange little thing airing on Netflix. And over the years, the world'll move on and the show will be buried. And if you want to remember me, then you can do one thing. That's all, one thing. Have a good life. Do that for me, Rose.
