> it's just a horrible episode written by a horrible racist

From reading through the thread you linked, is your whole argument that Thompson was involved in casting and decided to cast the 3 brothers as black men, and because the plot involves the brothers tricking one of them into thinking they're a robot he therefore had an agenda (or inclination) to portray black people in a negative light?

Is there any possibility it was just a misguided attempt at diversity, and he never considered the implications of the characters being morally faulty?

Is there something else that happened in journey that I'm missing?

 No.131936

What makes it more difficult is that jodie is clearly such a nice, cool and charismatic person off camera. The issue boils purely down to the decisions that get made regarding how she performs the character. Whether it's entirely her decisions or the director's also telling her to overact is hard to say.

She did say that a lot of her reactions are based on what shes been told the character sees due to things being put in later during post.

 No.131938

There are moments of 13's performance that I like, but it's almost exclusively when she's doing regular human things (casual conversation with the companions, or confronting krasko) rather than things related to the scifi action aspect

She's capable of comedy, her timing on "do you want to come for tea at mine?" "definitely" was a competent comedy beat (assuming that wasn't just editing). There just aren't too many moments where that skill gets to shine.

Chibnall thought he was parodying the personality, though. Robertson showed a disregard for people working for him and had an aggressive domineering personality, among other things.

They were all incredibly superficial personality traits, and in some cases arguably not even accurate to trump as a person - just the caricature that some people dismissively see him as.

They all felt like a standard businessman though. This episode could have replaced him with Henry Van Staten and ended up the same. In fact he is a better Trump parody, at least he seemed to care about loyalty in his staff and entitlement over his possessions.

If he was actually trying to ape the personality then that's pretty bad. I kept feeling like the character lost all his teeth once he met the gang, but kept talking like he didnt. Which just meant he keeps being undermined and ignored

Once the spiders come inolved, the locus of power shifts to 13, who completely doesn't care about his influence. Without his secretary or his bodyguard, he's just an archnophobe in a suit.

 No.132444

>>132443

The Red Key even seeming like a subplot comes down to how the chronological order is structured; all the Red Key scenes are from the same audio.

The Committee linkages originally was something of an arc element to tie the chronologically disparate releases before we started getting strict continuity stuff like Aliens Among Us, however it does go somewhere and there's a point Goss makes with it. I question the difficulty in trying to understand/following the subplot though, what do you need to know beyond there's a Illumantiesque group of aliens that have infiltrated lots of Earth organisations and do shady things?

 No.132446

>>132445

The Miracle Day ending is too naked to "fix" but there are a Moffat-esque quick retcons to contextualise it a bit more, don't get your hopes up for anything huge though, as far as the Comittee connections to Miracle Day go it's just a brief technobabble to make the Miracle make a bit more sense, and some more context for the Three Families.

Despite being generally quite lib for an ex-4chan community, we're too tolerant of the word "fags" and other such derogatory terms.

 No.132486

>>132478

Let me start that one over:

We're not really a good fit for 4chan because we're too tolerant of tripfags and of a lot of non-chan-approved topics and concepts. And that's because 4chan has been getting steadily and observably worse for years and years.

It doesn't help the fact that the animation is shit either. That's what the BBC get for being a bunch of pricks to the animators, I guess.

with the exception of Dalek and The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Series 1 is just as bad as Series 2. People rag on Love & Monsters and Fear Her (deservedly so) all the time but turn a blind eye towards the Slitheen two-parter and Bad Wolf with its parodies of not one, not two, but THREE game shows that were popular in 2005

1 is one of my least favourites and although his era contains some kino I find his character to be quite dull and lifeless. This is for two, even more controversial reasons:

- the actual character of the Doctor had little to his name and didn't even mean anything and the scriptwriters made little effort to drop any subtle hints as to just who he might be/

- Hartnell is the worst Doctor actor
