Is it me or did we burn through the last two threads really rapidly?

It's the perfect metaphor for the show.

I thought we got through the last on rapidly, but that might be just because I fell asleep right when it began and woke up right when it ended.

“The Tsuranga Conundrum” is (rather aptly) a bit of a puzzling one: a base-under-siege episode on the surface, but with a threat too cute to be menacing. In other areas things gel better, with more of the solid character moments that you’ve come to expect from Chibnall by now.

>solid character moments that you’ve come to expect from Chibnall by now

is this saying that we will get character moments of similar quality to what we've seen, or we'll get the kind of character moments that we expect of chibnall given his experience on broadchurch?

Doctor Who: Series 11 - Event Television!

Pting the Thing is Beep the Meep's TV counterpart.

Preceeded by Antique Roadshow

bbc is pushing the envelope

Could you explain what does it mean?

s11 ep 5 TONIGHT

How was Scaredy Cat?

Not without getting nasty, no

I feel unsafe

feed and seedpilled

Gimme a reason

I got up early for the stream last week but it was laggy in the minuts before it was meant to start so I went back to bed

>The latest episode of Doctor Who, "Arachnids in the U.K.", dropped a tantalizing hint that there have been previous female incarnations of the Doctor. If true, this revelation would completely rewrite the Doctor's history, and potentially even suggest that the Doctor had another (never-before-seen) regeneration cycle

Based and redpilled

Am I misremembering, or has 13 not actually said the "all of this is new to me, new worlds, new times…will you be my new best friends" line yet?

probably wont listen until tuesday

Doctor Who fans are so stupid when they write stuff like this, it's like all the flipping out after RTD made 11 say he had 507 regenerations.

This would only upset people who get worked up by the numbering of doctors being correct but those people should have all given up now that Jodie is the fifteenth doctor but called the thirteenth.

Also for fuck's sake, teasing that the Doctor has been a girl before didn't even start with Chibnall. Moffat was doing it in The Magician's Apprentice.

no, she hasn't

at this point it's likely trailer bait, since it's a little late for 'will you be my new best friends'

nilsos breasts are big if true

can confirm it's true

>Finally saw Batman vs. Superman. It was actually okay. Far too long and Jesse Eisenberg was terrible but nowhere near as bad as I thought it'd be. Having saving that I did have to watch it in three separate sessions so maybe I actually hated it and don't realise it. I don't know.

"sister" can just be a rank/title, in that very same line it's used in that capacity. It's not out of the question that somewhere in the universe they give males the title of 'sister' for something

She's the 14th Doctor, not the 15th. 10 counts as two separate regenerations, but not two separate Doctors.

She's the 13th Doctor, the 14th "Doctor", and the 15th regeneration of the Time Lord known as the Doctor.

She's the 21th Doctor, the 20th "Doctor", and the 22th regeneration of the Time Lord known as the Doctor. + 8 Morbius Doctors

She's not canon

12 regenerated in to the Briggs Doctor

12 didnt regenerate

I wonder how the Kris Marshall timeline is?

he was replaced by a retard that pretends to be female doctor

imagine how absolutely dead the show would be right now if it didnt get the media boost from casting jodie

The Epoch Doctor arc is crazy af

I don't undestand a thing

but I think the finale will tie things up

predict ep5 ratings

I imagine the viewers would improve at least for the RTD episode.

imagine my shock

It'll never be announced in advance

talking is easier then writing

War counts as a Doctor, but only after the events of DOTD, where he is redeemed in 10 and 11's eyes. However, 10 is implied to have forgotten the events of DOTD after he leaves, as is often the case with multi-Doctor specials. What this means is that only 11 onwards - and 10 for a brief time - sees War as a true Doctor. Therefore the correct Doctor numbering is:

>9 (does not consider War to be a Doctor)

>10 (David Tennant before DOTD)

>11 (David Tennant at the end of DOTD, now acknowledges War as a true Doctor so +1 to numbering)

>10 (David Tennant after DOTD, has forgotten what happened, once again does not consider War to be a Doctor so -1 to numbering )

>11 (Matt Smith pre-DOTD)

>12 (Matt Smith post-DOTD, now acknowledges War as a true Doctor so +1 to numbering)

>13 (Peter Capaldi)

>14 (Jodie Whittaker)

Can't wait for Neo to make the positivity hour where he laughs at people who like s11

Actually it's more like this.

Matt Smith's Doctor was unable to regenerate as he had used all his up.

We have to acknowledge that the time lords granted him a new set of regenerations.

In order to become Capaldi's Doctor, Smith would have to regenerate and to do this he would need to use one of the new set. Effectively making him the Hartnell first Doctor equivalent of the second set of regenerations.

Enjoy! Or I'll have to get nasty…

And if I'm in the shower, bring me some "beans" on "toast"!

That's, that's roughly human flirting, isn't it?

Beans are evil. Bad, bad beans. Bread and butter. Now you're talking.

And if I'm in the shower, just bring me some beans on toast. That's roughly human flirting isn't it?

How many beans make five?

Come on, then, Father G, spill the beans

Cool the beans, Rambo.

Fish and chips, sausage and mash, beans on toast… no, Christmas! Turkey! Although… having met your mother… nut loaf would be more appropriate

So, spill the beans, sailor. Give us the facts. What's your problems?

You carry cocoa beans. For barter?

Why is he so full of beans?

Go and have your lovely beans on toast. Don't tell anyone about this, because if you do, you'll get them killed.

Oh, I know how many beans make five, Doctor, and you don't have to be a Time Lord to cope with A level maths.

Come on, Weismuller, spill the beans. Why the red alert?

Oh, smell that, comrades. Burgers and chips. Sausage and beans.

Doctor Who officially licensed baked beans were offered during the early Tom Baker era by Crosse & Blackwell. They came in standard 15.5 ounce cans, with labels that featured the Doctor Who logo alongside a drawing of the Fourth Doctor.

There's a rumour from Big Finish Day that Briggs is adapting Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks with David Bradley

what is thiis

It's the novelisation of The Daleks but it changes:

The book is told in first person by Ian.

The opening deviates greatly in that Ian and Barbara have never met each other. Ian has never met the Doctor or Susan prior to the events of the story, thereby ignoring the events of An Unearthly Child. The novelisation of An Unearthly Child would not be published until 1981.

The first two chapters are a brief account of An Unearthly Child.

The meeting in the junkyard changes to a car crash on Barnes Common.

Ian is on his way home to Paddington, having just come back from trying to get a job as an assistant research scientist at Donneby's in Reigate.

Susan was being personally tutored by Barbara.

Susan says the Doctor is very rich, as he paid twenty pounds a week for Susan's tutor lessons.

Susan wrote a thirty page essay on Robespierre.

The yearometer in the TARDIS was damaged on a previous trip, and the Doctor has been meaning to fix it.

A Dalek is described as having some emotion in its voice.

Susan Foreman is referred to by the name "Susan English".

The circles on the TARDIS walls can be used to store things.

Ian is not trapped inside the Dalek casing, and escapes with ease long before the Daleks can cut through the door to the lift.

A Dalek leader inside a transparent casing appears. An actual Glass Dalek appeared in the television story Revelation of the Daleks.

Gurna is Alydon's cousin. He accompanied the Doctor's group into the Dalek city. Salthyana is a female who says Kristas will propose to her the next day.

Ratanda is a drink made by the Thals.

I've seen virtually no discussion on Class boxset, it felt like a total flop. Interesting.

Even if it was, it does seem like an optimum choice for a Big Finish audio, seeing as all the cast have no careers so they can churn out boxsets if they wanted to.

I like some of Downtime's stuff, particularly with audios where they fill a niche of actual analysis of the audios, but their big flaw to me is their unfailing positivity. They are just too positive about everything; it's like audio compressed to shit, there's no dynamic range to their opinions so everything they say eventually starts to seem kind of useless because if they call X magnificent, then what differentiates it from Y? >but their big flaw to me is their unfailing positivity.

Nah. I appreciate that. Too many blogs are dedicated to being negative about everything that Downtime comes off as refreshing. After a while reading two thousand words about reappraising something is preferable to reading two thousand words tearing something down.

I used to have a source. Then I took an arrow to the knee.

It's just too consistently redemptive to me, to the point where all their writing reads as navel-gazing rather than actually expressing anything. You can contort a glowing reading out of anything, but when you're constructing as much celebratory essaywork for Ravenous as you would for Heaven Sent, it makes the whole affair seem more like intellectual wankery than anything dynamic.

Thou shalt not kill, unless it is as slow and painful as possible.

Stomping spiders is completely different when they're big bois.

>It's just too consistently redemptive to me, to the point where all their writing reads as navel-gazing rather than actually expressing anything.

The opposite was why I eventually tuned out of Eruditorum. Every essay was either Sandifer saying the same exact thing about the Wilderness Era that she already said in the past dozen Wilderness Era blogs, or a rant about fascism/capitalism that failed to differentiate itself from every other rant about fascism/capitalism on the site. I don't even know how anyone can hear Jack Graham talk without thinking he's a broken record by this point.

Why does he keep insisting theres going to be a surprise regeneration?

kino video

At least the Eruditorum oscillates between positivity and negativity, and Sandifer's takes are often abnormal enough to sustain novelty. She has a dial to turn; it's not set at 11 all the time.

Not really. She used to have interesting takes, but they're all so samey. She got predictable. I can't remember the last time a Sandifer essay was genuinely interesting or surprised me. Maybe her entry for Rose?

There's no "not really" to the fact that Sandifer is extremely positive on some episodes and extremely negative on others.

There is though. The moment an audio or episode gets released, I can already guess what Sandifer's thoughts are. And nothing she does lately ever challenges that.

Which is irrelevant to the fact she is very positive on some episodes, and very negative on others. You concede that.

Didn't you find her S11 reception surprising?

No. I knew she'd try to find something redemptive about the early S11 episodes because of Jodie Whittaker, and would try to find a downer take on Rosa because of how it ended.

I don't concede that. Your suggestion that her reactions only go to two extremes suggests a certain blindness to her previous essays, as her Ghost Monument essay wasn't very positive or very negative at all. Just wavering a little toward positive.

I don't suggest all her posts are extremely negative or extremely positive, I state that some are. And many are in between those points. The point is her opinions have range.

>And many are in between those points. The point is her opinions have range.

And that doesn't apply to plenty other blogs in existence, how? Because even Downtime was frustrated at episodes like Lie of the Land. Saying they're consistently positive is a reductive statement.

Being frustrated at one universally-hated episode isn't a signifier of range and to imply otherwise is to be willfully obtuse.

It is though. Your suggestion that they're consistently positive would imply they would be positive to Lie of the Land. And by pushing with your argument in light of that, you are being willfully obtuse.

Stating "they are too positive for me", as I said, is not undercut by them, along with everyone else, having issues with The Lie of the Land.

Episode 7 is Kerblam

Why can't women sonic?

>Hope prevails.

She looks like she's holding a roman candle.

Personally I don't understand how anyone can be on their phones while watching a TV show, I mean you took time out of your day to watch it and you don't even watch it.

I could never watch an episode of Doctor Who while on my phone no matter how shit of an episode

desu, I phonewatch Chibnall a bit, because it's so boring.

Someone make a supercut of all her sonic waving at the end of the series

Why do people like Cornell refuse to be critical of bad Doctor Who?

Hmmm, maybe that's why it's so explainy

Watching as intended, smart boy.

Extreme fanboyism, or wanting to stay in the BBC's good books so they get rehired.

Pting is pretty iconic and fun at least. People will remember Pting more fondly than The Wire or Mr Sweet or The Whispermen or those things from Planet of the Dead I should imagine.

There's a line where she says it recharged itself. But there is a lot of speed talking so I can see why somebody would miss it. The first five minutes were downright unbearable just wordswordswordswords scored with that completely pointless music when nothing is happening. Really quite a shame after that very relaxed opening on the junk planet.

What if you put your phone in one of them there VR goggles?

He probably doesn't want to burn that bridge.

So that's.. what it means…to be a Doctor.. of Hope.

Because despite all the Shagger Cornell talk, he generally tries to be nice these days. Too nice, but if I had friends who worked on TV, and they made a shitty episode, I would try to look on the bright side instead of shit on them on social media. I'll complain to them in person instead.

How did they get back to the TARDIS?

Pting > Krasko > Spiders > Tim Shaw > Remnants

That doesn't change a thing, you're still focused on the ep unlike with actual phone use your on Twitter or Reddit

Remnants > Spiders > Pting > Krasko > Stenza/Tim Shaw

so the Doctor being in pain, clutching her abdomen and doubling over at points, had no relevance to the plot whatsoever and was never explained? in an episode where a character being unusually pregnant was a plot point and the monster was baby-sized? what the fuck Chibnall

I'd personally switch Tim Shaw and Remnants but both are almost equal on the "Make Pip&Jane Look Like Moffat" Scale

Doctor of Hope

formerly Doctor of War

I wonder if Chibnall has balls to forget Time War completely for a series or two

fucking hell

And because Cornell has fans who listen to him, so he doesn't want to fan the flames. Like that time a kid told him he had no idea what Doctor Who was, and Cornell said "Actually, I write the show", leading to hundreds of his followers pouncing on the kid.

>was never explained?

Are you the anon who was phonewatching? They said at the start that their internal organs had all been fucked with by the sonic mine and they needed time to recover.

What's unexplained is the fact Yaz/Graham/Ryan never demonstrate any symptoms.

Once again another episode where 13 doesn't use her hood or Graham and Yaz interact

Oh I misunderstood. I'm sorry.

I caught that part but I figured it'd be something more seeing as it seemed so pointless and like something that was setting up a twist later on.

Cloi is the new 13?

How many more "Ryan acts like a dick to Graham for no reason" moments will we get?

And vice versa, to be fair.

I have two solutions for this:

1) Time Lords and humans recover differently from stuff like this

2) Dr Who woke up the last out of them and straight up started running and worrying and shit. Maybe the others already got some treatment while she was asleep

How dare you.

She was on her period.

Commentary on 21st century race relations.

does /who/ not like Paul Cornell? how come?

They heard Loz's story about Cornell bullying him, and take it at face value instead of questioning whether or not Loz was telling the truth.

Thank God there isn't another Inside No9 to miss since the thread is a bit like a Chibnall ep

how'd they get away with this

What are NuWho stories the fans thought were shit, but years later, will get lauded as classics? Like Kinda and Deadly Assassin?

Stupid phone watcher proving Chibnall right by not paying attention and allowing for way to much talking

Was Twin Dilemma ever really the worst episode? I think it's worth something, if only for the scene of 6 throttling Peri.

this legitimately sounds like a childrens book

literally any episode is up for reappraisal now that series 11 has shown us how dire it can really get

But which ones in particular? It's not like Heaven Sent can get more praise than it already does.

no Fear Her is, and it still holds the title. ChibnallWho is boring and bland but its nowhere near as bad as the shows worst episodes. At least if it was then it'd be interesting to watch, which it isn't

Crimson Horror? It's genuinely good fun.

another episode with a perception filter for me is the woman who lived, doesn't even feel like it exists desu

Leave the girl, it's the man I want.

>Was Twin Dilemma ever really the worst episode?

No, but it came at the worst possible time. Came out immediately after Androzani, so it had to follow up a story people consider GOAT. It was Six's first story, and because it was the last story of the season, it was also people's only impression of Six for a few months. And it was when Michael Grade was planning to kill the show.

This sounds like Gareth Roberts' unwritten VNA

Rewatching them I genuinely can't say any episode is utterly terrible apart from Fear Her

Kill the Moon

Hell Bent will be looked back on as one of the best episodes in the show's history. It's already started to become appreciated more (at least on /who/) but at the time people fucking hated it cuz they wanted an epic Doctor vs Gallifrey episode and instead got something character based that was an emotional/philosophical battle rather than a literal one

This won't happen. Doctor Who fans are stupid and they're only going to get stupider with Chib Who.

The worst episode ever is probably just one that was too boring to really be remarkable. Maybe one of those really formulaic Pertwee ones, like that one with the radioactive astronauts, or whatever that was.

It's already happened for Aliens of London & Love and Monsters.

I think Kill the Moon and The Girl Who Died will see their reputations improve with age.

Ambassadors of Death was GOAT, pleb.

Hell Bent. Name/Time of the Doctor. The Beast Below. Hmmm. I wouldn't say it'll be seen as a classic but Let's Kill Hitler is nowhere as bad as people made it out to be. It's not great, but it's not terrible by any means. I think expectations were too high after A Good Man Goes to War and the break between 6A/6B

I actually think that one put me to sleep.

This looks so kino now, is it good?

Many people say Ambassadors of Death is a really good Story myself included, it's just a bit dragged out which brings it down

eventually it will. People who are new to the show won't watch that episode with the expectations people had for it at the time, and so they won't be disappointed when it doesn't go in the direction they want it to

>Steve Lyons

There are Doctor Who fans, and then there are Doctor Who fans. The latter group are the ones who get into analysing the episodes and have an interest in storytelling as an art form. They're never going to completely disappear.

This bit was very interesting to me because I don't understand it.

13th Dr Who is so impressed with this technology, why? Is she happy for the progress? Is she finding the cycle of progress beautiful in general? Is this the first proper pillar of hope moment, Dr Who loving how advanced people will become so they can casually use antimatter?

>The latter group are the ones who get into analysing the episodes and have an interest in storytelling as an art form.

Why do we have more of those than other fandoms? Star Trek doesn't have its own Black Archive or About Time. I can't recall other fandoms that regularly pump out literary criticism the way Doctor Who fans do.

I only remember the dad. He was such an over the top asshole to his family, and a scene implied he was going to cane his son had his wife not kicked him out of the house. And then 10 tells his son to forgive him.

Already? I haven't even started the first one

we used to have three come out at once

File: 252ed269f6d2fa6⋯.jpg (222.01 KB, 1280x720, 16:9, 1501377150838.jpg)

We used to have six come out per season.

We used to have twenty-four come out every year.

I'm not that big on buying books, more of a library person

I think it's in Doctor Who's nature. It has a huge range of influences and connections to art/culture, because it lacks a set format and spends most of its time borrowing ideas.

I'm kindle person

The same guy who called me a caveman a while ago?

oh no no no

Some of the boardies' response to the idea of an episode set in India is the most pathetic thing I've seen all week. Literally subhuman.

/tv/ became more pathetic than /r9k/.

As a concept, there's potential, but we all know what that episode will be.

Reminder the author literally read a Tennant spinoff book just to make sure he didn't accidentally uncanonise it.

Boardies aren't talking about that. They're just verging over the mere sight of Indians on TV.

File: c0fe0f9647b5a91⋯.jpg (172.32 KB, 408x588, 34:49, clara, panicking.jpg)

>mfw I remember we'll never get a Doctor Who episode written by Moffat ever again

Yeah, that's just autism at that point.

Realistically, antimatter could only be used as an energy dense storage medium. Making antimatter has to use at least as much energy to create it as you would receive from annihilation. So generating antimatter in flight is useless you veer off into perpetual motion machine territory. In that case you wouldn't have particle accelerators on board, it would simply be used like fuel. You would just need a fancy box to contain it, and a mechanism to lump it together with some matter and collect the energy. It would be impressive tech by today's standards, but basic stuff in scifi.

Shit that actually sounds… good?

I don't think there is a zero percent chance of it. Maybe in ten to fifteen years time, he'll see the show on the brink of death and valiantly return for a few scripts just to keep it alive. Then he'll suffer the same fate as Robert Holmes.

I mean a part of the appeal of Doctor Who is that it's a travel show. I wish it would visit foreign countries more often, rather than just stuffing half of the world inside of Britain, and sometimes fake America.

File: 2cd7bb73fe4582b⋯.jpg (84.11 KB, 1030x775, 206:155, imuddhd0333-1030x775[1].jpg)

Sounds like startrek plot

Remember all the times Moff kept begging RTD to write a script? And even though RTD was still writing and still loved Doctor Who, he kept refusing? It's gonna be like that.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.

>that time when the best Star Trek episode felt more like a Doctor Who plot

The difference is I don't think Moffat has as much willpower as RTD. Moffat could have quit so many times, but just kept going well beyond the point he was planning to stop.

I am just happy they are keeping it indians only instead of the Series 10 burger king kids club nonsense.

Costs money.

>Star Trek is at it's best when it's like Doctor Who

>Doctor Who is at it's worst when it's like Star Trek

You could probably shoot in a quarry and call it Australia.

File: bebe5c30ba38cd7⋯.png (1.02 MB, 1920x1080, 16:9, epic.png)

Definitely sounds like an EU story of some sort

one of my favourite lines

Okay, this is epic.

OK, this is epic

That's more a case of Moffat having really bad workaholic syndrome. Where he needs to have his plate as full as possible. It's why after finally leaving Doctor Who, instead of taking a vacation for once, he immediately went into developing a Dracula show and a Time Traveler's Wife show.

Yeah but I imagine that Moffat feels he's told every story he wanted to tell by the end of his run. He wrapped up every loose end from RTD's era, Classic Who, as well as from his own era. He's written for the First Doctor, the Fourth Doctor/the Curator, the Fifth Doctor, the Eighth Doctor, the War Doctor, the Ninth Doctor, the Tenth Doctor, the Eleventh Doctor, and the Twelfth Doctor. He wrote for two Masters, Davros, the Great Intelligence, and Rassilon. He got to the 50th Anniversary special as well. I think Moffat's satisfied enough after that.

I was trying to think of any "major" characters or concepts from Classic Who that have yet to be brought back in nuWho last night and all I could think of were Romana, the Rani, and Omega. There's the Valeyard, but Moffat had the only opportunity to bring that character back in Eleven/Twelve's runs and chose not to, and it wouldn't make any sense for the character to appear now.

Kerblam! has a terrible name, but the premise is intriguing (kinda Big Finish-y) and it's non-Chib so I'm holding out hope.
