That isn't what's happening here, and you know it. Lifelong fans of the show (i.e. NOT just Moffat fans) are upset that it's been placed in the hands of someone who isn't an imaginative sci-fi writer or an engaging character writer, whose work consistently suffers from severe pacing issues, crap dialogue, shallow characterisation, questionable casting decisions, rushed endings, ham-fisted political posturing, incoherent moral messages, plotholes and unanswered questions. There are many competent writers out there substantially different to Moffat who would have been accepted with open arms because they aren't guilty of any of the above, so please, cut out this pathetic "you just can't accept change" nonsense. It's so transparently disingenuous that I'm embarrassed for you.

Doctor Who will not have a Christmas Day outing this year for the first time since the reboot in 2005.

Instead, 13th Time Lord Jodie Whittaker will have an hour-long special which runs at New Year – with a storyline that relates to the arrival of 2019.

The move comes after bosses claimed they had “run out” of Yuletide storylines following 13 years of making them.

Before Andy Frankham-Allen took over the rights for the Lethbridge-Stewart family … Before he started the most depressingly trad Doctor Who prose spinoff of the century … He ran a fanfic series called "Doctor Who: The Legacy".

>In The Legacy universe … the Master succeeds in “killing” the new Doctor (as played by Jon Pertwee), who regenerates once more into the form of his premature 4th persona (as depicted by Brian Blessed). This massive change to the universe’s timeline meant that a alternative universe was formed – The Legacy universe; one in which causal reality was in a state of temporal flux. Knowing that he was missing something, the Doctor left Earth and UNIT to deal with it’s own problems, and returned to his travels in an attempt to seek out the one responsible for his premature regeneration.

Time Amulets. Paradoxical companions secretly possessed by eldritch horrors. A clone of the Doctor. The death of the Master. The destruction of Gallifrey. The TARDIS … as played by Joanna Lumley. What more could one want?

 No.138154

I don't really mind the fact the Doctor's less authoritative, more powerless, has less presence etc. That could all potentially be interesting. By far the most compelling moment for her character in ep 5 was when she momentarily turned into an arsehole and had to get slapped down by Brett Goldstein. The problem is that it's boring the rest of the time because she hardly ever enters proper conflict with people or gets to be involved in real dramatic situations. It's not a coincidence her other good scene was with Krasko in ep 3.

 No.138155

That wasn't compelling at all. It was utterly retarded. No other Doctor would have thought like that because they were injured. This is just out of character.

Is this from somewhere?

 No.138171

I still don't know why Moffat decided to introduce the Twelfth Doctor by making him such a cunt to everyone in his first few episodes. It's one thing to have a "darker" or more mature Doctor after 11, and Moffat is obviously capable of writing him that way as seen by how he was written from Last Christmas onwards, but it's like he was trying to make him unlikeable. At least with Nine he had a reason to be angrier/darker. 12 was the first Doctor to start out knowing he had saved Gallifrey, and had just been given a new set of regenerations hours earlier.

A LEAP OF FAITH

A LIFE CHANGED FOREVER

Foreman begins on a warm summer night in London - on a high roof. Nick Pettifer (nobody calls her 'Nicola') stands on the brink when a stranger from very far away appears out of nowhere and changes everything. But how do you handle strange new worlds and the scope of history when you can barely handle yourself?

This is not about The Doctor being a woman (Jodie is great!), but about story.

Last week's Faux Trump effort notwithstanding, this week's episode was just as bad.

Issue 1: The companions just aren't sympathetic. I don't feel any compassion towards them. Issue 2: Zero humor. Even Capaldi had some touches of humor. Issue 3: Ancillary characters we just don't care about.

It's all about the writing. This season is missing the fun. Any fun would be good.

Only had a cursory glance, none too sure myself. Holman was talking about not being sure as to what job to go for because he had 3 options in front of him and he could only go with one. He gave reasons for each one and said that Who fans were "for the most part really nice but many armchair critics and psuedo-professional reviewers marred the rest of the fans". I guess Whelan took this personally and had a petty spat before protecting his tweets and getting Holman to block him.

>Would you keep their designs or would you redesign them in any way? How?

I'd bring the Daleks back considering their last proper appearance was in 2015, and I'd probably keep the RTD-era design but change the coloring to be gunmetal grey with hints of dark green rather than bronze and gold just to make them more tank-like

 No.138353

I was rewatching The Doctor Falls today, and while I was nearing the end I started to cry as I realised… I really miss this era of the show. Murray Gold's soundtrack is just fantastic, Peter Capaldi is amazing, Steven Moffat's dialogue and style of storytelling is really engaging for me. Even the worst episodes of the show had great acting from the main cast and a brilliant soundtrack to just get lost in - episodes were always either enjoyable as they were or bad because they were stupid, but never boring. Has anyone else had a moment of realisation of believing their favourite era of the show has passed similar to this?

 No.138374

Because much as I hate celebrities telling people to vote too, they're right. Lots of young adults don't vote, and that leads to American politics becoming more stagnant if there's no new blood.

 No.138375

>>138374

I get that, but I think the intent is flawed, they aren't getting young adults to vote for the sake of a more diverse voting block, they're doing it specifically because the majority of people who would receive this message, regardless of age, would vote for the neo-libs.

I think the message of "get out and vote!1!!1!" is a stupid one unless coupled with a similar message about voting against the 2 major parties.

 No.138376

>>138375

> a similar message about voting against the 2 major parties.

Because voting against the 2 major parties has often been viewed as throwing your vote away. The electoral college and gerrymandering mean any chances of a third party, even one with major backers, are almost nil. And people are still bitter at the third-party candidate from 2000 taking away Gore's votes and allowing Bush to become President.
