I'm going through Classic Who with a guy who's new to Who and didn't want to bore him with the recons or whatever the surviving audio stuff is called. We're going onto The Chase tomorrow.

Does anyone know which serials with with missing episodes are really important and shouldn't be missed? Or if its easier which I should miss?

Thanks :)

Mission to the Unknown, Dalek Master Plan, Evil of the Daleks and The Ice Warriors

Yaz picks it up in ep 9

has anyone else been watching holby city? mcgann plays a great villain. the show's writing isn't always great, but his character is, and watching his slow descent into madness has been pretty interesting. it's a shame that his time on the show's coming to an end, i've actually been really enjoying it. but there was only so long they could go on without other characters finding out about the murders

also yea this isn't doctor who but it's a show about doctors saving people, and it stars mcgann, so it basically is

i watched his first ep when we streamed it but i hated it and wished he could spend his time on better roles

interesting he became a villain though, i had no idea

I'm a Hoby chad too, but I am still 40 episodes behind

Oh shit

Out of context this is like something from a comedy lmao, did it originally have music?

None of them are "important" because Classic Who is a serialised/anthology show with little regard to continuity and limited contact between writers of individual episodes, but you should watch the animated episodes, specifically The Tenth Planet and Power of the Daleks since they are the final and first episodes of Doctors One and Two

File: 969dd4c71b6418c⋯.png (507.22 KB, 1280x720, 16:9, vlcsnap-2018-11-03-07h07m4….png)

i don't necessarily enjoy the rest of the series, hence why i've been watching a supercut of only mcgann's scenes and nobody else's, because i really don't care for the rest and their storylines are pretty boring, run-of-the-mill "drama" stuff. even mcgann's character started pretty unremarkable (high-profile neurosurgeon, super charming, intelligent, and here to save the day), and continued like that for a few episodes, until you hit a point in the show where suddenly everything just clicks, and you realise that he's been manipulating everyone the entire time. he's a character that very much follows the philosophy of "the end justifies the means," so he ends up with a lot of blood on his hands in the name of the greater good. some of the deaths he causes are direct, some less so. most of them are unforeseen consequences of his heavily flawed medical trial, but perhaps the cruellest is when he gave one of his closest friends (and a main character on the show at the time) locked-in syndrome, then ultimately murdered her, all because she discovered how ethical his trial really was. it's interesting because, ultimately, he does want to do good work, and save lives, but he's reaching the medical breakthroughs by climbing over a lot of corpses on the way. fascinating character. not always given the focus he needs, and i'm hesitant when it comes to the second half of the current two-parter (which looks to be the… permanent exit, for his character) because there's a lot of story potential that i'm almost certain will be wasted on account of the fact that whoever's in charge of the holby storylines often seem unable to write themselves out of a paper bag

lol i meant to say unethical in that spoiler text. the opposite wouldn't be so concerning

nobody is safe from terrible death in Holby, and that is awesome

yes, very dramatic music

Chib toned down almos everything

- Pre Credit sequence - Down

- Theme - Down (too short)

- TARDIS interior - down

- TARDIS exterior - up (but the reversed handle triggers me)

- Jodie - down

- Companions - down

- Sonic - down

- Vortex - down

- plots - down

>TARDIS exterior - up (but the reversed handle triggers me)

the exterior is different? aside from RTD->Moffat I've never noticed a change in how the exterior looks unless there's like a side-by-side in the show (ie: Day of the Doctor, Twice Upon a Time). Is there a collage pic of the different TARDIS exteriors? I've seen the infographic ones that are drawings of the exteriors but I've never seen one that uses pictures of the actual props

Honestly like the title music and sonic design. That's about all the things I like about series 11 though

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.

This comedy bit about torchwood from 1:27 onwards specifcally, applies to series 11 quite well I think

the trimmings of the windows from white to blue

the pannel from white to black

the light is blue

and the fucking reversed handle

I like theme, love exterior, like Jodie, 50/50 on companions now, like sonic, like vortex.

Would a pink or purple TARDIS trigger your more than the things Chib already did?

How does the Tardis change it's exterior if the Chemeleon Circuit is broken?

Would the Sheffield box for Jodie's run be too much?

Exterior or Interior? I'd quite like a purple interior.

Exterior, to be girly

Maybe the tardis is just fucking with the doctor. Or maybe every time the tardis tries to repair the chameleon circuit, it gets stuck as a different police box

She (the old girl) like the format, but sometimes it needs to reset and she does not remember it perfectly, so she does the best she can

If demons is actually about proper demons and not aliens in anyway series 11 is retroactively kino and all will be forgiven

Don't know

it depends of how it is done

I still believe it will remain ambiguous

the lore change into fantasy territory may trigger some people in Planet Mondas

>Doctor Who 12x00 - The Doctor and the Mouse King (25 December 2018)

The Doctor takes a trip to 19th century Prussia on Christmas Eve, where she befriends a young girl named Marie and promises to protect her from the mysterious Mouse King while she eagerly awaits Christmas morning.

Unpopular opinion: the Tardis being alive is dumb as fuck and never should've become canon.

We need a TARDISposting flag

Even before Gaiman's episode

almost everyone already believed she was alive

t. First Doctor

Isn't that the best Doctor?

eh I think it's been executed perfectly. It's not like Kit from Nightrider where the TARDIS has a voice. It's just been ocassional beeps and whistles in response to something the Doctor said, which is something the TARDIS does anyway (make random sounds). The Doctor's Wife is obviously an exception, but that was a 1 time thing under specific circumstances and was undone by the end of the episode. Also that ending was fucking beautiful and Vincent and the Doctor-tier imo

Good, scifi-bads are the worst desu

also just because Siri/Alexa responds to you dosn't mean your phone is "alive". For all we know the Doctor could've just installed voice control when he didn't feel like using his hands.

Although the doors opening/closing when the Doctor snaps his fingers is 100% just the TARDIS doing it on its own accord and not a legitimate way to open/close the TARDIS doors. It started doing it for Clara after Name of the Doctor when it stopped hating Clara after she saved the Doctor's life.

>when it stopped hating Clara after she saved the Doctor's life.

why did it hate clara again? was it because she was a time anomoly with different versions of her

just an alien taking the form of a demon

like star trek V

is posting fucked up for anyone else? for the past few days whenever I use quick reply it takes a while to post and I have to manually delete the previous reply before typing a new one

Clara was a potential Doctor and TARDIS was just jealous, you know, "women"

Yeah I think that was it. I don't know why the TARDIS kicked 13 out and fucked off for two episodes after she regenerated. And then why it changed the interior on its own. I thought Chibnall would address it in some form but nope.

yes, probably the fags in leftypol are overloading the site

Yeah 8ch has been screwed the last few days

No, Tennant was!

Sounds utterly horrifying.

Yeah, I’ve been having the same problem. Not sure what’s going on.

Anyone else find it interesting that Cosmic Racist recognised the TARDIS? Are TARDISes really common now that Gallifrey's back? Usually characters dont know what it is or whatever. Makes me think Chibnall might bring in some other time lords with other TARDISes. Would be very easy to explain to regular viewers too, "oh look someone who is the same species as me and has a TARDIS also"

Why is the acting in big finish so bad? Or is it just me who thinks that?

Why does he call it that when that's not even what it's called? Susan just made the name TARDIS up.

Voice actors need to express themselves through their voice, not their face or body movements. You'd think this would be obvious, but Big Finish keeps hiring actors that I'm sure are good at acting physically, but not good at voice acting specifically. It is its own skill, and BF need to learn that. (Also I'm sure they dont always have the money to hire really good actors for every role)

Susan's a lying piece of shit, and I can only come to the conclusion, since time lords in hell bent, and several other gallifrey stories, the master, and im sure a couple of others all call it a TARDIS, and it's just that Susan wanted to take credit, like the attention seeking dishrag she is.

I'm a little late here, but if the demons are just demons and not aliens, that would be so fucking based

we see the lens thru the tardis translation

when Susan coined the term, it is the english version of what they say in gallifreyan and we heard in english

we see the lens thru the tardis translation

when Susan coined the term, it is the english version of what they say in gallifreyan and we heard in english z

I've just thought that she mentioned it and the name caught on and then became official when they were back on Gallifrey.

mfw you all will regret

great theory actually. i can see her coming up with the english equivalent but not the 'official' gallifreyan name.

Gallifreyan language are symbols like in japanese, so maybe one symbol means a whole phrase, so Suzy had to translate the concept

>"In fairness Matt Smith charges a lot more than that!"

>"Matt Smith was £75-£85"

People are stupid

>Marigold takes forever to release the Series 9 soundtrack

>finally does after 3 years

>barely any music from The Witch's Familliar and Hell Bent, the two episodes with the best music aside from Heaven Sent

>changes the title of Breaking the Wall to "The Shepherd's Boy" even though the original title had become so well known and associated with that track that even the official Doctor Who pages referred to it as Breaking the Wall when it was played at the mini Proms thing they did after the finale

>can't even say there wasn't enough space on the album since there's literally 150 minutes worth of unused space across all 4 discs

The Shepherd's Boy is a much better title though.

Just read what pcj had to say about the next ep and i am disappointed now.

>MFW I'm reading up on a lot of the series criticism and can't help but think how their thoughts and dreams are gonna be crushed when they find out their one true saviour isn't gonna save them.

>[…] maybe the writer's room thing was more true. Or Chibb just had more direction than expected.

>And without going too spoilery….3 episodes in a row for the same XXX is really fucking tiring.

>desu, I don't remember much from the episode as a whole. I started to tune out on first watch when I realised it repeated said XXX after the two previous episodes also did it. It's nice, but kinda boring? I think it was mostly because I bought into the guest writer hype too.

You're welcome. <3

Laurel makes sure we all know her opinion matters, because she's a historian.

nah, pcj said the thing was happening for the 3rd time in a row, not the seventh time in a row

in all seriousness, though, it's arachnids > tsuranga > punjab, right? i'm guessing what he meant is that it's just a generic "oh no, there's a monster, we have to stop it! and there's a group of people here also!"

Sucks about demons, hype diminished for kerblam and witch finders if the writers room is this consistently trash

Sherlock Series 4 was complete shit for a number of readons. The Lying Detective was the closest to a good episode but it was still underwhelming.

PCJ thought Rosa was good apart from the ending, so forgive me if I diverge from his standards somewhat.

Arnold reused part of his Vesper theme from Casino Royale in that score (track is called Pick Up)

Reminder that the voice of Kerblam! is joe miller

is that a good thing or a bad thing? His portrayal in broadchurch is pretty subdued and not the "facetiously enthusiastic corporate image" voice I would hope for, but as an actor he could easily have range

imagine if they got all the docs from tennant onwards involved in a 60th special. Jodie would have just left or possibly would still be around, and would look the same. It would be a few years for Capaldi, but he already had a few lines and grey hair, so it wouldn't even be that noticable a difference. His hair would probably be short, so they might imply he's come from series 8 or something.

But Matt and David would look so much older. It would be so jarring having just those 2 being noticably older, while the rest are more or less the same(ish)

Also that's 4-5 doctors. Probs too much to each be the hero, but I imagine the then current doctor would take centre stage.

That's been retconned since the moment other timelords started appearing, pretty much.

I think his Kerblam will be more Gus-like, aka sarcastic and sadistic, not facetiously enthusiastic

it's alright, Rebel Flesh has one of the best cliffhangers in nuWho but I'm sure that was all Moffat. Same with the Silurian two-parter in Series 5

It's not fine literature but the first half of the book feels like one of the better horror episodes. Nice character moments too, Cavan Scott seems to have a great grasp on Twelve's pissed off, loving grandpa schtick.

There should be a story where the first Doctor travels back to a period of ancient Gallifreyan history, and inadvertently coins the term Tardis as the standard name for time travel ships.

I think the reason why the ridiculous things in Tsuranga like the pregnant guy and the Pting didn't work for the casual audience is because for the most part Chibnall played them completely straight. The RTD-era had the Slitheen and the Adipose but he didn't play them straight, he embraced the silliness and played it comedically

we went from " If you think because she is dead that I am weak, then you understand very little. If you were any part of killing her, and you’re not afraid, then you understand nothing at all. So, for your own sake, understand this. I am the Doctor, I'm coming to find you, and I will never, ever stop."

>I'm going to be dead in a few hours, so before I go, let's have this out. You and me, once and for all. Winning? Is that what you think it’s about? I’m not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone — or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It’s not because it’s fun. God knows it’s not because it's easy. It’s not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind! It's just that. Just kind. If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live — maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, maybe there’s no point in any of this at all, but it's the best I can do. So I'm going to do it, and I will stand here doing it until it kills me. You're going to die, too, someday. When will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind?

>Because we're all capable of the most incredible change. We can evolve while still staying true to who we are. We can honor who we've been and choose who we want to be next. Now's your chance! How about it?

What is genuinely Chibnall's best contribution so far?

its funny how people act like the Moffat-era treated the show more like space fantasy rather than science fiction when RTD was doing shit like this

avert your eyes, WE FUCKED UP, TIME TO GO BACK

Yeah. A pretty common but effective tactic is to play things comedically in order to sneak up behind you and then knock you over with a strong emotional beat. You don't have to do it exactly like that, but simply playing it pretty straight all the way through leaves it emotionally flat.

Chibnall is really the worst of both worlds. Serious Doctor Who can be great, and silly Doctor Who can be great, but what we have here is a Doctor Who that is neither serious enough or silly enough. "No personality" is definitely going to catagorise the Chibnall era.

>Because we're all capable of the most incredible change. We can evolve while still staying true to who we are. We can honor who we've been and choose who we want to be next. Now's your chance! How about it?

this line is so on the nose lmfao

I appreciate his attempts to wind things down a little. Subtle atmospheric music, instead of bombastic orchestra the whole time. The Doctor not giving grand speeches constantly. But if he's going to take away from that element of the show, he has to fill the gap with something, and as of yet, he has not.

Your problem is you're assuming some level of competence on Chibnuck's part

RTD specials are so enioyable for me because with a little tweaking they are just regular episodes. My favourite Moffat Christmas special is The Husbands of River Song for precisely the same reason. This is also why i'm quite glad of the change to New Year's Day and the "de-christmasing" of the specials.

"Really? He's supposed to be scary?"

>The design of the P’Ting was also apparently not a hit. I’m almost at a loss for what to say to this. The idea that monsters have to always be scary, and with it that Doctor Who is always inherently better if it’s scary is one of the most banal and depressing viewpoints in fandom. The P’Ting is a solid concept with a genuinely delightful design. Cute but dangerous is an entirely coherent aesthetic category, and one not enough monsters fall into. (Really only the Daleks.) They’re the first new monster since the Boneless to immediately strike me as worth a return engagement.

What if instead of Twice Upon a Time we got a Doctor-lite Christmas special following Clara and Ashildr on an adventure? That way you could preserve The Doctor Falls as an ending and preserve the Xmas slot.

Thinking about these alternate scenarios isn't good for my peace of mind.

that would have been so kino, sets a precedent for a spin off too. Jenna would have been too busy filming victoria though.

They should bring back the yearly doctor and companion lite episodes. We probably won’t get a single episode this year without all four of the main cast and it’s so boring

It's a shame he can't do at least an episode of Doctor Who. If he didn't do one for RTD or Moffat then he's def not doing one for Chibnall. Doubt Chibnall wants to hire any decent writers anyway. >tfw velvet coat is on-screen

>Doubt Chibnall wants to hire any decent writers anyway.

The layout for this series is five Chibnall episodes and five literally whos, three of which are diversity hires. He didn't think it would be a good idea to have at least one known quantity on board. The only writer in the mix that doesn't leave me scratching my head is Pete McTighe who is a big fan of the show.

The Doctor, The Widow, And The Wardrobe: I've never seen this one but literally everyone seems to agree it's utter shit. I should give it a watch, the Chibpocalypse will probably make it seem like a masterpiece.

Twice Upon A Time: I remember feeling like this was the Twin Dilemma to The Doctor Falls's Androzani, but after seeing what came after it this doesn't seem so bad at all. It's the perfect bookend between eras; you can almost feel the kino draining away as it goes on.

The Snowmen: I've never seen this one either, except for the "Clara climbs up to the tardis" bits, but those were very good.

The Next Doctor: From Russel's "that was actually a bit insulting" period. 60 minutes of scholck strategically deployed to generate as much tabloid hype as possible. Completely disposable after it's served its purpose.

The Runaway Bride: Russel hit the bottom of the "kitsch holiday alien invaders" barrel pretty fast, didn't he?

The Time Of The Doctor: No idea why this one seems so popular lately. It's an utter clusterfuck, but I'm not exactly upset we got it, considering the Silence arc had gone on long enough by then. Everything about the regeneration was completely embarassing. Doesn't old 11 lie at the end of the episode when the truth field's still supposed to be up?

The Return Of Doctor Mysterio: Possibly the most generic Christmas special: comedy premise; written to be watched when inebriated, annoying thing the showrunner probably thought was funnier in his head, etc. It certainly exists.

The Christmas Invasion: It got the Eccleston-Tennant transition done, and still retained a bit of Russel's darker wit. Feels like things are still moving forwards, which you really can't say about The Runaway Bride.

The End of Time: Yes, it's tastelessly meledramatic and overstays it's welcome, but there's an art to this sort of thing, and Russel was on point here. Also, it has the best regeneration scene in the history of the show; the transition from David's all-encompassing state of doom and gloom to Matt not giving a single fuck is pure kino. All it really needs is a better face-morph; as it is it almost looks like David's eyelids melt mid-regeneration and new ones form out of Matt's eyeballs. No wonder he groaned like that.

The Husbands of River Song: It turns out River's not all that bad when Alex Kingston doesn't have to pretend she has chemistry with Matt. The Capaldi era's "death" theme certainly helps ground the episode with a particular focus as well. A fitting end for the River/Doctor relationship (presumably - god, just imagine Chibnall trying to write for River), but the Kino Tier should be reserved only for true kino.

Voyage of the Damned: fuck you it's kino

A Christmas Carol: One of the only Moffat-era episodes to work primarily through visuals. Perfectly captures the simultaneous darkness and whimsy of the early Smith era.

Last Christmas: It's Inception but better than actual Inception. Easily the best use of the "don't do x" monster gimmick Moffat had been relying on in some capacity since Blink, and fittingly the last time it was used. After this episode the new approach was, indeed, uncluttered by any of the old approach, but the transition itself is stellar all the same. The GOAT Christmas special.

Twice Upon a Time is not a bad episode

I was actually surprised when I found out how much it was hated on /who/, I thought it was such a nice quiet little story after the absolute balls-out explosive kino crescendo that was the series 10 finale. 1 being mischaracterized bothered the fuck outta me but I've learned to let it go and not ruin the episode for me, I enjoyed Bradley's performance regardless. I also think 12's regeneration scene is underrated. I adore the concept of the Doctor giving his next incarnation a pep-talk about all the ideals held by the character that should not stop being aspired to, regardless of whoever it is that comes out at the other end of the regeneration. Yeah some of the lines are a bit naff, but Capaldi absolutely sells it for me and there's some good stuff there as well. "If their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too…" One little kino dash of Moffesque Shakespearean/fairy tale writing. What else could you want really for his final lines on the show

>tfw fake Series 11 leaks some /who/re made up to shitpost with sound more interesting than what we actually got

since when does /who/ not like it?

honestly this, it serves its purpose perfectly well. I think the addition of having every life in the universe being backed up is cool too

because neo told us not to like it

It's a bit more an affectionate dislike, I'd say. Lines like "Hate is always foolish, love is always wise" are laughed at quite a bit on here, and One's unnecessary misogyny pissed a good bit of people here off

>no cold opens

>minimal tardis scenes

>barely any previous references

>chris writing half the episodes

smart boy, biology!

>half of these things ended up being true

was it just a lucky guess? Did we already know fragments of information and anon just put them together?

Yet another thing Moffat steals from Faction Paradox. He couldn’t end his era without one final theft

>Hate is always foolish, love is always wise

don't get the hate for this, it's perfectly consistent with 12 at that point in time.

Also, I wish I could find the post again, but some anon once laid out how kino and poetic it was to have 12 go from not really knowing who he even was or whether he was a good man or not in his first series, to being completely sure of who he was and what he stood for in his regeneration scene. They pointed out how 12's whole purpose of the "pep talk" speech to the next incarnation was so the next Doctor wouldn't have to go through what he went through

Well Neo doesn't like it, and you know what that means………

It doesn't sit well with people who believe in violent revolution and punching nazis

>and never, ever eat pears!

people dont remember that he said this to clara in hell bent

>Never eat pears. They're too squishy and they always make your chin wet. That one's quite important. Write it down.

its completely fine, the biggest emotional climax of 12s life was him losing clara from his mind, and he LITERALLY just gained those precious memories back about 5 minutes earlier, he's giddy about getting his memories back so of course it makes sense for him to self reference from that moment.

I'll still defend The Runaway Bride to this day because it's in that Series 1-3 zone where they were just pumping out fantastic monster design after fantastic monster design.

It just looked like an ugly frog toddler thing. It wasn't as explicitly cute as reviews made out. Personally I think it's a really great monster design, very memorable.

>black woman writes a historical about a black woman

>indian man writes a historical about indians

This is my problem, selfish writing. Maybe Vinay and Joy will pull it out of the bag but honestly it doesn't really bode well when the best idea someone has for a story in an infinite sci-fi universe is "let me talk about bad shit that happened to be ancestors"

Detecting on the junk planet was actually a great cold open, if only Chibnall hadn't fucking trashed them!

The only reason why I don't like the "children can hear your name" part of Capaldi's speech is that it fucks up the momentum of it and feels kinda out of place as part of that specific speech. Like everything before and after that is the Doctor telling his next incarnation everything he's learned since becoming 12 as well as reassuring himself about regenerating. Children being able to hear his name doesn't really fit with either of those.

Either way, there was no way Moffat would be able to top Eleven's regeneration speech. I remember when spoilers leaked out for that episode (remember Eleven's peg leg that ended up being cut?) and "I will always remember when the Doctor was me" was one of them, I thought it was the stupidest sounding line of dialogue and had to be fake. When the episode finally aired and I heard the line in context it fucking destroyed me. Especially with that little fourth wall break he does.

>They pointed out how 12's whole purpose of the "pep talk" speech to the next incarnation was so the next Doctor wouldn't have to go through what he went through

it might have worked a bit too well

it was a reference to something that happened at a con right? i dont fucking care, it's kino. pacing be damned.

do you understand that i see you as a nazi?

and do you understand that, in seeing you as a nazi, I refuse to participate in conversation with you unless i feel obliged to?

>black woman writes a historical about a black woman

you'd have preferred Chibnall to write it on his own? I don't see what the problem with it is either way, if I had to pick anyone to write an episode about Rosa Parks a black female writer would be the top of my list since they can bring things to the table that you just wouldn't get as a white dude who read a book about her.

>indian man writes a historical about indians

same thing, but I don't think Demons of the Punjab is "about" Indians, it's just the setting.

>woman writes a historical about women

jesus christ dude we know next to nothing about the episode other than it takes place during the Witch Trials and has Alan Cummings in it yet you're writing it off as "about women". I don't think the writer was hired because it might be an episode "about women". Every episode has women in it. Having an episode in the first series with a female Doctor take place during the Salem Witch Trials is such a briliant idea that I honestly think Chibnall fought against it.

also what do you even mean by "selfish writing"?

accidentally deleted the post number I was replying too, whoops

>punching nazis

literally nothing wrong with this

Yeah, Eleven's regeneration is really something special. His final lines are definitely my favorite of any Doctor's, and the quick snap regeneration to Capaldi is such an effective bit of kink mood whiplash that it might give the 10 to 11 regeneration a run for its money.

>Hate is always foolish

anyway back to Doctor Who. If you were showrunner what new ideas would you bring to the show to keep things fresh? I've always wanted the show to experiment more in terms of episode format and how each story is being told. For example, something I thought of the other day that could be cool is if for an episode that takes place over a couple time periods in the past 50 years or so, the visuals changed to reflect how the show was filmed in that decade. ie: they travel back to the '60s and it turns black and white, then they go to the '70s and it looks like a Tom Baker-era episode, then they go to the late '80s and it looks like a Sylvester McCoy-era episode, etc. It'd kinda be like the opening to Name of the Doctor, though I'd have gone further with it and maintained the 4:3 aspect ratio for those clips.

A similar one would be to have an episode be done in claymation for narrative purposes, with the Doctor fully aware of the fact that they're now made of clay and trying to fix it, but I suppose that might be a bit too difficult to pull off for anything more than a single sequence in an episode

Punching nazis simply isn't good enough, throw bricks at them instead.

I honestly like it more than World Enough and Time. It's only second to The Doctor Falls for me

love this idea, theres so many creative shots you can do with the format swap too. imagine having a shot in normal 16:9 but have the composition of the scene look 4:3 (with buildings or boxes or whatever on the side) and then have the next cut be in 4:3 so the transition is perfect.

It's an accurate sitcom parody version of One. It's understandable why some would object to that of course but I'm fine with it.

just think of it as the One we see being the results of all the paradoxes and changes in the timeline from all the shows history.

it's odd seeing it so bright, and with smith in his tweed, it just feels wrong, although i do like the vents by the doors & the orange light for the corridors. the general colour of the cosole is more warm than what it turned out to be, although i dont doubt that this is what the actual console looked like if all the lights were pure white, showing the colour of the walls, etc.

That's every room.

Bumping this just in case neo didn’t see it

On rethink, I'm thinking that I like Thirteen's characterization in Ep 2 more than Ep 4, and maybe even Ep 5? The side "educational speeches" sort of unbalance her character?

>The side "educational speeches" sort of unbalance her character?

they're a bit weird right? like I don't get what the intent behind them is, is it just meant to inspire kids? it feels forced.

File: 38a2cb228c86db3⋯.gif (4.62 MB, 540x540, 1:1, ihw.gif)

Chriball is trying to replicate the hartnell formula, down to including educational content

I really hope the thrill seeking side of her in the Krasko scene of Rosa sticks and becomes a bigger part of her character next season

>Character's having substantial traits

>in Chibnall who

Even Ryan's Dyspraxia hasn't been mentioned in a while.

But I don't think One literally talked facts to the rest of the crew. It does work with 13's "teamwork is good" nature, but it's not eased in well. It only worked in Rosa, really.

She's not really thrill-seeking, but more willing to get involved in situations, when she has the upper hand.

Honestly, lines like "I eat danger for breakfast" and "I say 'dude' now" don't seem to suit her? She works better in moments like when she's sort of shyly saying "Well, I coullld break into the apartment…but only if you want to."

>but it's not eased in well.

I agree, the lead up to the scene doesn't feel organic at all, it just exists in a vacuum

In that case, the Doctor should be an aloof scientist, and the moral core of the show should be the companions.

>But I don't think One literally talked facts to the rest of the crew

Tell that to chibnall, because that's apparently what he thinks "educational writing" means

I like 13 when she's either full on in control of the situation and aggressive about it like with krasko, or she shows awkward mannerisms and funny speech patterns in more casual settings

By funny speech patterns I mean things like the delivery on "tea at yaz's? amazing", using "yas's mum" rather than her actual name and lines like "you made a very awesome human". Those slight quirks and nonconventional ways of saying things are endearing imo

It's weird to say, but Chibnall feels like the worst writer of 13.

When it gets mixed in during action scenes, then it gets weird. Why is 13 giving out "fun facts" while they're trying to figure out where the spiders are?

Also, I realized that part of what makes the "antimatter speech" so weird is that the camera focuses on the Doctor. If we had some reaction shots of Yaz and the other people in the room looking like "Uhhh….what the heck?" or even trying to snap her out of it, the intent would be clearer.

Yeah, I love that stuff. It works great.

>Chibnall feels like the worst writer

Yeah i mentioned something like this the other day, it'll be more clear over the next few weeks but it feels like we're at a point where it's actually a BAD thing for the showrunner to have personally written episodes, ironically this is also the most we've had a showrunner doing in a while.

Here's hoping that the next few prove this true and blow chibnall out of the water.

>If we had some reaction shots of Yaz and the other people in the room looking like "Uhhh….what the heck?" or even trying to snap her out of it, the intent would be clearer.

But doesn't the scene play it straight rather than as a joke - yas is genuinely interested in what she's saying and not concerned about wasting time?

What if chibnall knew that TCC wasn't high quality enough and decided to add a "big doctor speech" to it to make it memorable… and that's what he went with.

I would have thought that the pting alone made TTC memorable

And, like the scene with the brother and sister in Ep 5? Good stuff. The pregnant dad? Good stuff. Epzo's monologue about his mom? Great stuff.

But the Doctor (and Yaz)? Feels rockier.

Yaz being honestly excited by 13 weirdly takes away from her character's depth? Like, because 13 is less angsty, it makes Yaz come off as literally following the leader.

TCC is pretty solid. But her speech ss sort of like a weirder, less elegant version of 12's "I want to kiss it to taste the burn" speech in S9.

>But the Doctor (and Yaz)? Feels rockier.

hmmm yeah, seems like a lot of these issues center around yaz in a way, which is ironic because she's the most normal part of this series. I'm starting to think chibnall only wrote her in to make something consistent with the rest of nuwho (young woman companion). This would be consistent with the fact that he fucking stole her name and backstory from a guardian article.

What did you think about Graham talking to that one bloke about trust towards the start of the episode?

>he fucking stole her name and backstory from a guardian article

We don't know that for sure, it could just be a funny coincidence with a common pakistani first and last name

maybe but this article is literally about partition and was published around the time chibnall would have been thinking of ideas (right?)

>What did you think about Graham talking to that one bloke about trust towards the start of the episode?

A good moment, that was based on Graham's experience and character, without him saying "I have cancer so I have experience in this area."

Yeah, we can't tell for sure. And even if he did, taking from another source doesn't mean he doesn't care about the character. I took the first name for an Iranian-American ghost companion in my OC Doctor series from the real life name of an Iranian actress.

August 2017 would have been after the companions were cast, right? Or at least the stories were starting to have been written? Would he have had the companion names set by that point?

Also, Vinay might have come up with the name. Wasn't "Partition" is idea?

>Conspiracy theorist Bradley Walsh, who believes that the Final Chase is rigged (and once guest presented an episode of The One Show with Alex Jones)

It has been said more than once that this era of the show is aimed at the wide audience.

So, quasi-educational stuff for children, mystery and action for youngsters, "that show has Bradley Walsh and seems interesting" for older people.

Are you gonna blame that on the Dyspraxia an' all?

No, as per DWM Chibnall entered into the showrunner role already wanting to have a Rosa Parks and Partition episode in his first series.

I'm starting to think Vinay has had a deeper hand in the writer's room than we thought.

I'll back you up there. That post is way too articulate for you.

What's leading you to think that?

>Vinay apparently having named Arachnid

>Vinay thought up "Partition"

>Apparently, PCJ said that Chibs and Vinay had certain smiliarities in style

I think they brainstormed episode titles together and Vinay came up with Arachnids and Chibnall went with that. There's a tweet of Vinay's that said "dont toss around stupid puns because someone might make them episode titles" or something like that.

Their minds were on the same page insofar as the period featured, is my understanding, and iirc DWM mentioned that.

It's PCJ's opinion, not mine.

This, and reminder we still have no actual collaboration of a writer's room per se, Chibnall has been notably evasive on the matter and only clarified as far as using a "hybrid" format, which could mean anything.

Nowhere have I felt attuned to Series 11 more then when Ryan said "Why am I even talking about this"

That's a dumb premise though. It would never work.

I generally like positive attitude of Sandy's podcasts. I totally agree about the weirdness factor they brought up, I liked Yoss and how the culmination scene was intercut with him giving birth. Although it felt to me that they were overthinking its value of "updating base under siege" genre. Also the fact that they spent half of podcast talking about other episodes speaks volumes.

Did Beth say "Bernie Summerfield"?

I went in expecting more conflict because I guess I was forgetting her actual attitude toward S11. I didn't listen to the whole thing desu.

That’s not really saying much. Cutting out your tongue with a pair of rusty scissors is better than the show at this point.

No joke, no meme, Series 11 might actually be the worst Season/Series so far. Things like Season 24 and Series 2 look like masterpieces in comparison

Absolutely LOVE Access All Areas. Not as childish and condescending as that utter crap that was The Fan Show. Much more tolerable presenter too!

He can't take away old Doctor Who.

The more doctor who he makes, the smaller percentage of the show's run that good doctor who will be.

Just like how zombie simpsons is 2/3rds of the episodes now

Forgot my non-flag!

If we go by metrics then most Doctor Who is already shit because most Doctor Who is Big Finish

Televised Doctor Who is the only part that matters

What happened to those meta-crisis 10 audios? Was it meant to be one a month?

Iirc only two were ever publicised, and we got both of them

I'm going on a wee holiday for our 16 year anniversary and won't be home for the next episode. Should I make an effort to select accommodations for hotels with BBCamerica? or should i just try to find a DL when i get back, or just skip it entirely?

You're still seething over Big Finish being better than 90% of TV Who?

Congratulations, hope you both have a lovely time together.

I know which of those three I'd choose. I'm not gonna be in a position to see ep9 and ep10 when they air myself, and am not losing any sleep over it. Possibly gaining some.

Just watch it late desu, it's not significant enough to have to watch as soon as it airs. Unless it's something you'd enjoy watching together there are probably better things you should be doing on a holiday

Congrats, Cloy. If I were you I'd just put it off until you get back

Thank you! We haven't watched episode 5 yet either. I just feel so fatigued with it. I've been opting to watch Robert Carlyle chew scenery on a family fantasy show when given the option between the two. It's been legitimately hard to watch and I'd really like to say I'm enjoying it, but it's been a real chore.

there is down time, and normally it's one of our favorite things to do

Thanks, Nilso. I'll probably do just that

I feel the same. It's legit draining.

>Th-the Emperor!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! OwO

Unless the missus is a fan i'd say don't bother. I can't imagine rushing back to the hotel for a riveting episode of Chibnall Who would do anything but spoil the occasion. It's a cursed show now.

>Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell and fractured 3 ribs

fuck, I don't wish that on anyone

old people getting injured just makes me feel sad

How would you feel if a future showrunner changed the name of a show to "The Doctor Who"?

I would accept it if every episode is titled "The doctor who [did something]"

How many years will it take for a showrunner who was inspired by moffat?

>had slight liberal overtones

>london was always half black

>jesus WAS black

>decide to give the feminists an inch by letting the doctor become female

>show becomes fullblown communist propaganda

what did we learn?

you never give them an inch.

hahaha dcoter who is shit now

doctor who rarely had perfect dialogue etc but it worked in its own way, but now it feels like theyve forgetten writing skills you learn in highschool, its honestly over at the end of next season if they keep going at this rate, its like the BBC swallowed their own propaganda and let a bunch of niggers write it, because chinball wrote some decent episodes for torchwood and he wrote 42 for a tennant season which i thought was a cool episode. i dont think he has a huge amount of involvment and their just using his name or he has his hands tied and their forcing him to write pure propaganda.

It's a post from the /tv/ thread that's up right now. They've lost all collective reason.

At least both the chans have common ground in thinking that Series 11 has been shite so far

What other political figures could Doctor Who in 2011 feasibly have gotten away with titling "Let's Kill…" episodes after?

watch literally anything other than doctor who

it was so difficult to even summon the motivation to get on iplayer and watch who live, and i just ended up feeling like it wasted an hour of my time. doctor who had never made me feel boredom as a physical ailment before.

Stalin, Mao or Thatcher

Remember that salad thing in ep1

I do remember chibnall's cynical facsimile of what he thought cheeky rtd style writing was

Simpler times

I eat salad for breakfast.

… I don't, I eat cereal.

Its weird. Its the first series where I'm not excited or hyped for any upcoming episode. Even in the RTD era I could always expect the finale to at least be fun. This white bread era is shite

Remember all the Epzo and Angstrom business

Hi Neo,

I just….don't see the point of it. It's literally just reuploading shitty little already uploaded clips, which will soon then get reuploaded again in yet another format, with a talking head linking each one that only really adds fanart to the end.

It's like a combination of Doctor Who Extra and The Fanshow in 1/5 of the time and not living up to either.

>"who are angstrom and epzo?"

>The episode barely tells us anything

It's really jarring in Chibnall's era, because everything else is taken so seriously that when there is a silly scene, it feels like it's coming out of nowhere. And also because in the past there was a self-awareness, whereas now it feels like the directors / composer aren't aware that the scene they're filming is supposed to be funny. Where's the high-camp of RTD's era? Why didn't the shadowkin guy in episode 1 not do an evil laugh? He was too ridiculous to take seriously, but too serious to laugh at.

/who/cares episode 5 filming

Right that's it I'm fucking SICK of all this fucking shit talking against me and my first series as showrunner. Do you fucking know how hard this job is? Do you know how hard it is to efficiently tard-wrangle Jodie Whittaker into doing her lines without her tripping over her own tongue? Do you know how hard it is to stop Bradley Walsh from fiddling behind the scenes with the interns? We've had SIX disciplinary meetings with him, imagine that; SIX FUCKING MEETINGS about TOUCHING INTERNS! Don't even get me started on the divas Tosin and Mandip, you'd think they were fucking royalty the way they act!

Why are you shitting on these scripts I wrote? Do you know how long I stayed up over countless afternoons and evenings toiling over these scripts?! Do you actually know how difficult it is to write a script, let alone a good one? Do you know how hard it is to set up the intricacies of a multi-layered series long overarching plotline? Do you know how many scripts I had to bin because of the fucking writing room? Do you know how hard I begged for Dorney and Fitton to write for this series? Do you know how much of a razer-thin line we procured Malorie Blackman by? Do you know how much of a temper tantrum she threw because I wanted to tone down the racist elements in Rosa? No, of fucking course you don't because you're a bunch of fucking nothings who'll never make it anywhere in life compared to me, CHRISTOPHER FUCKING CHIBNALL. YOU MAKE ME FUCKING SICK.

You wear a wig.

If a man can't even grow his own hair, how can he grow the show?

Well, look on the bright side, we’re only having to deal with these spambots because of the Wikia closure, and dealing with spambots is still better than dealing with Redditors.

File: 815c361590b9ec5⋯.jpg (20.83 KB, 246x184, 123:92, withnail.jpg)

Hair are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos and transmit them directly into your brain.

I don’t know, but I do know it has nothing to do with the influx of accounts. They were spambots, not boardies.

It seems to me that Capaldi's doctor would have found the spiders a new home, and given the villains of series 11 more chances than Jodie's doctor has.

Just a gut feeling, but what do you think? Is 12 the nice doctor who doesn't sugarcoat things, and 13 the vindictive doctor that sugarcoats everything? Or is my perception off-base here?

>Or is my perception off-base here?

maybe, but the only way we'll get through this era is if we do all of the kino legwork for chibnall

this is the reason bald-headed men are uptight

13's best moment was when she was acting out of character.

I don't think that was Chibnall's intention, but he has a really messed up approach to the morality of each situation, so it comes across that way.

Yeah, I don't think it's intentional, but she's coming off as insidious in a way that 12 wasn't. It's funny that 12 has the perception of being 'dark' whatever that means, and yet 13 is making innocent spiders die a slow agonising death rather than be put out of their misery quickly, for instance

I normally like coming up with theories and stuff that go further into an episode than the author probably intended, but s11 is just so surface level that I can't even delve deep. There's nothing underneath, it's an empty facade

File: 998a5cddda354d9⋯.jpg (2.61 MB, 1417x1417, 1:1, BLINDT01_thegodsoffrost_14….jpg)

30 minutes

Who cares?

no we'll stream /who/ cares another time

Are you trying to be funny?

12's emotional journey was sort of like, that surface of apparent cruelty or coldness being stripped away to reveal that he was actually one of the kindest and warmest incarnations. It'd be really cool if the opposite could happen with 13, where her friendly exterior is peeled back to reveal she harbours far more darkness in her heart than most of her predecessors. For example, the idea of her sticking to very rigid moral principles, that result in more pain than the alternative would've offered… like with the spiders, assuming that (for some reason?) the option of relocation was really not on the table.

>the idea of her sticking to very rigid moral principles, that result in more pain than the alternative would've offered

I would love that, but too kino for Chibnall I fear

Yeah. He basically managed it with the spiders episode, but it wasn't intentional, he was just trying to push a specific moral message (one that I don't necessarily disagree with) that really did not work in-context.

Able to start streaming now just waiting for more people

can someone attend a convention that Chib is at and ask during the q&a why he got a wig?

I was just thinking that maybe her outburst of trying to take control and being irrational when she wakes up in Tsuranga was her real personality showing and she just hides it to appear more friendly but Chib doesn't do depth

Waiting for Morph if he's still able to attend today

Link to stream?

we're doing the second half (The Lord of Misrule, Hide and Seek, Solistice)

File: cd577255e126d06⋯.jpg (217.68 KB, 1200x1200, 1:1, watch.jpg)

Would you wear this?

If gifted it, sure, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to purchase it.

I only watched half of Tsuranga and didn't pay much attention when I was watching, it really bored me… but when I get around to a second attempt, I'll keep an eye out for this. Maybe S11 will be bearable if I try to come up with some deeper explanation for the inconsistencies that have reared their heads so far.

RIP to the stream and this thread.

We'll come up with a better arc for 13 in ST 3 than Chib ever could

The watch face itself has a nice design, I've always loved how circular Gallifreyan looks. The sign on the band feels a little bit like overkill, but it's still a nice enough watch.

Looks nice but already have a Doctor Who watch so wouldn't bother.

I'd go to the stream but I didn't hear part 1 of the audio

Fucking missed it didn't I

They didn't go ahead with it.

You could always replace the strap. Still a bit geeky though.

Yeah, Morph didn’t show up and Capaldo left while we were waiting. In the end only myself (NightmareofEden) and Sloath were left, so we decided to postpone.

Do you have to listen to the first three episodes to understand the last 3?

File: f3bdf0e8658f9d5⋯.png (1.11 MB, 800x600, 4:3, 1459774077518.png)

We didn’t get to listen to them, but it’s a serial so I would assume so.

there are events that happen but they mention it so you can keep track, all you need to know is that Eve Myles is the maid and has a dead husband

Chris Noth, Eric Roberts, Timothy Dalton

Underrated actors who all completely understood the tone of what they were doing in Doctor Who, and gave a pitch perfect performance

Attention all /who/ users.

Giga is in custody and he needs your help.

All he needs is your credit card number, the 3 numbers on the back and the expiration month and year
