For Thursday Torchwood, should we do the standard 2 stories, or would it be possible to do 3 stories, because the stream after this one will be Believe which is a 3 story set apparently best listened to in one sitting? What do you regulars think?

>putting a bevel and a drop shadow on a frame that I vaguely recognise as being a photoshop preset shape in one of the older versions

>the weird positioning of the orange gradient in the corner, virtually out of view and making no meaningful impact on the presentation

>putting a drop shadow on all the girls at the bottom

>uneven white rim around the girls' hair due to a dodgy rushed masking job, too close to being properly masked for it to be intentionally stylistically messy

>the white text needing a black outline to be legible over the black and white photos

Rat jam?

the first option seems ideal if Believe is meant for one sitting

Sloath? :)

One makes the most sense

what the fuck, this is trish from broadchurch?

I'm not going to pretend it's some great cover but it's clearly going for an "aging poster" look hence the cheesy shape and discoloration, with the girls meant to look like cutouts of old photographs hence the drop shadow and uneven white rim (Nyssa's wavier hair giving rise to the inconsistency). The white text having a black outline is completely normal for BF covers.

It's not PC enough. We need some more "history is a whitewash" moments.

>futuristic clipboard

It's meant to look like a poster from the 60's

60s posters don't have default photoshop filter bevels and drop shadows. It's an amateur's attempt at replicating a style they haven't done proper research into.

Remember when capaldi had to act with a transparent green clipboard and pretend it was a futuristic tablet?

I remember writing stories in Primary School English Class that started off light-heated and innocent before abruptly ending with everyone being slaughtered. Either that or I’d scapegoat one particular character to go through hell and have everything go well for the others.

>To watch that first episode and see proper representation was absolutely brilliant for me. I was buzzing off it, because that’s the world we live in and when you see it reflected on-screen, it’s like, ‘Oh, finally, this is great!

Of course, because everybody lives in London.

>For [Ryan] to politely pick up a glove that a woman’s dropped and for him to be punched in the face, it was absolutely shocking. And it’s like, ‘Right, this is where we were only a few decades ago, and this is where we’re heading again'.

Yeah, black people are still being oppressed by university grants and better employment prospects, it's like Jim Crowe all over again!

>My kids haven’t learned about Partition, I know barely anything about Partition, and I’m a fairly political person. To be bringing that into all these homes, to start that conversation, and to put Yaz in the middle of that story and to see it through her eyes, it’s just brilliant. It’s just everything I want in television.

How can you have any sort of meaningful conversation after that episode? It's got zero context for why partition even occurred.

Fuck off.

AAAlex is getting excited again

According to Gallifrey Base, these are the summaries of Ep 9 and 10:

>It Takes You Away

'On the edge of a Norwegian fjord, in the present day, The Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz discover a boarded-up cottage and a girl named Hanne in need of their help. What has happened here? What monster lurks in the woods around the cottage - and beyond?'

>The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos

'On the planet of Ranskoor Av Kolos, lies the remains of a brutal battlefield. But as the Doctor, Graham, Yaz and Ryan answer nine separate distress calls, they discover the planet holds far more secrets. Who is the mysterious commander with no memory? What lies beyond the mists? Who or what are the Ux? The answers will lead the Doctor and her friends towards a deadly reckoning.'

File: 21c3f301bdc766e⋯.jpg (36.7 KB, 251x242, 251:242, really.jpg)

>Who or what are the Ux?

Well don't they sound riveting?

Is ‘It Takes You Away’ by Chibnall? Because the title and summary sound Kino, but I don’t want to get my hopes up if it is by him.

That other one sounds shit though.

It's by Ed Hime, whoever that is

I love stories set in places like Norway, and I love mysterious stories with a magical tone, so I think "It Takes You Away" is gonna be a favorite of mine.

>The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos

reads like a very tongue in cheek parody

>It Takes You Away

>The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos

fucking shite

I think that's honestly one of the worst episode titles I've seen in a while. Surprisingly, ‘It Takes You Away’ might be one of the best.

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.

Just who or what are the Ux?

Bit early to say that. It could be absolutely awful, and totally waste both the setting the the premise on a bad story. But if it's of similar quality to the rest of S11, I'm sure you'll love it regardless.

>The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos

do you think this is likely to be real? It reads like it's made up to me, but people are treating it as real

That’ll be because the first one isn’t by Chibnall

If the finale is actually titled "The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos" we can just shred the last vestige of any idea that Chibnall ever knew what he was doing.

Sounds like the sorta titles I came up with when I was 12 and writing FanFic

The finale having nothing to do with the Stenza and The Ghost Monument just randomly throwing in another beat about them would be nearly as hilarious as an actual Stenza centric finale

>Watching a sitcom

>Nicholas Courtney turns up in a military uniform

I am shook

>the remains of a brutal battlefield

Battle probably involved the Stenza.

>What lies beyond the mists?

Probably the Stenza.

>The answers will lead the Doctor and her friends towards a deadly reckoning

With the Stenza.

It's the Stenza.

The warrior caste of the stenza

The Battle of Ranskor Av Kolos sounds like it could be the Mark Addy episode. Which suggests It Takes You Away is the final episode.

And award for the worst title ever goes to It Takes You Away

It Takes Kino Away TM

Are you serious?

Unless you can point out 10 other titles, yes

But there's a far worse title literally in that very post.

This is very true, but "It Takes You Away" is just as bad

Kino is required.

How can you say that when "The Battle of Ranskor Av Kolos" is right there? At least It Takes You Away is evocative of the tone.

Actually, just "Ranskoor Av Kolos" would have been a better title, by itself.

Is it absolutely confirmed that Mark Addy's episode isn't the finale? Because I can't help but think it could be.

Titles don't necessarily have to explain what the ep's about. "Listen", "Silence In The Library", "The Eleventh Hour" only hints at the plots, but they are evocative-sounding.

I've seen this idea that Series 11 is 'more human' or 'more character focused' but… is it? I feel that there's a lot of details from last season that were quite subtle and sweet, like the doctor gifting Bill some photos of her mum for instance, that aren't quite there in Series 11, or when they are they're not so subtle, so they don't seem very well done. Maybe it's just me though

I wish I could see the version of Doctor Who from the universe where Fox greenlit the series for 1997

a) Ryan, Yaz and Thirteen are too fucking boring at present to be worthy of character moments, only Graham has been interesting enough to make you feel something. Ryan and Yaz have little reason to be travelling with the Doctor.

b) Every episode has multiple guest stars that completely crowd out the already too large main cast, no real reason for this.

c) Every episode moves at breakneck speed even though barely anything happens.

d) When these moments do happen they are very blatant like Yaz talking to Ryan about his dad in Tsuranga or Ryan and Graham fixing the boat in Ghost Monument, completely inorganic.

Just to clarify I thought Bill was awful too.

It Takes You Away is a Kino title and I will not hear otherwise.

The Timeless child…. destined to be revealed in the season finale….. is me.

Episode 10 sounds so messy… like End of Days where Chibnall had like 7 different ideas of stuff coming through the rift and all these were undeveloped.

Alien planet finale is beyond based though

Does this guy not realise he's supposed to writing 45 mins of tv? Shit gets rewritten and cut for a reason.

I honestly completely forgot about the whole Timless Child thing.

Also budgets and stuff. I think Neil Gaiman might just not be suited to TV work. He's a great writer, but he prefers to have more control.

In a novel, you don't have to answer to a showrunner, write to a budget, write to a time limit, or even really structure things the way you have to in a TV show

Don't worry. So did Chib

We can only hope

I've never been less hyped for a finale in years. Actually depressing

Oh I didnt realize that pandorica had it too

We can objectively quantify that the finale will be a step down from the previous episode(s) purely because it's by Chibnall.

>finale contains references to all nine previous episodes, Graham bumping fists with Ryan, the Stenza invading Earth, Graham's death, and the Daleks cameoing at the end

Gaiman sounds like that one unknown Graham Williams era writer who tried to submit a story with cat people in Wembley Stadium.

>“Normally you have about five or six months to set up and do preparation on a series with, usually, a few unused stories in the cupboard. We had nothing. The Invasion of Time came about because the original script for that slot came in right up against the deadline. And when it did come in, it proved to be unworkable. It just could not be done. There were things in it, I remember, like an amphitheatre the size of Wembley Stadium filled with killer cats in the audience. So that story went out of the window, leaving us just five days to write three hours of television. I don’t think either Anthony Read or I went to bed for three days solid.

>Graham fistbumps Ryan, equips a Remnant as a blindfold so the creature from It Takes You Away doesn't get him, then sacrifices himself to destroy the Stenza by carrying an explosive orb into their Palace of Teeth

>His death is witnessed by the Thijarians

>The orb was actually a Dalek egg and it's activated the signal for the Daleks to invade

It Takes You Away sounds like extreme kino but the title is bland uncreative horror film-tier.

Sounds Kino

This would actually be fucking brilliant though, Chibnall will never do it.

what if its actually fast paced and exciting in how crazy this is

Wow, there's so many exciting possibilities, I can't wait to see Tim Shaw trying to capture a P'ting, or Angstrom and Epzo interacting with Krasko as they bring fire and fury to some spiders. I'm so hype right now

>equips a Remnant as a blindfold so the creature from It Takes You Away doesn't get him, then sacrifices himself to destroy the Stenza by carrying an explosive orb into their Palace of Teeth

This is pure undistilled kino though.

oh wait do series 11 scripts get edited? might be why

Maniccia Seftick Mogus

Vivilas Anor Gosheim

Skaro Skaro Lornov

Besides Pertwee/Baker pastiches, what would the hypothetical Gatiss era look like? It's likely he would have hired Pemberton and Shearsmith to write for the show. But what else?

that can't be a coincidence. how reliable was this leak?

Doctor Who average AI by era

>RTD - 85.6

>Moffat - 84.4

>Chibnall - 81.7

adjusted for normies:

>RTD - 100

>Moffat - 0

>Chibnall - 50

- At least one Kate Stewart/UNIT appearance per series, usually in the finale

- Tons of classic references and monster return

- More historicals than any other format.

- Gatiss-written midseries eps would have felt tonally closer to either The Unquiet Dead or The Empress of Mars than any other Gatiss ep to compare it to

Non-Gatiss midseries eps would be akin to Hide and Thin Ice

- Every other finale would feature a classic villain, like the Eight Legs

>Chibnall 100

nah he could never be RTD. RTD's era was when doctor who was actually good, not simply woke

Moffat era was meant to be rewatched and analyzed (rewatch Deep Breath after Twice Upon a Time and see how different the experience is).

Chibnall era was meant to be half-watched while on your phone.

The whole phone watching thing is what gets me. It's just so annoying

- A lot of Victorian wank. So many stories set in that period and references to books from that time, that even the guys who made the Jago and Litefoot audios would tell Gatiss to tone it down.

- Plenty of allusions to Hammer Horror and 70s children's sci-fi shows. You don't care about The Tomorrow People as much as Gatiss does? Too bad.

Twelve's the only NuWho Doctor whose debut story wasn't set in the near-present day.

13s debut story was set in the future because it's a fucking nightmare

12 is also the only Doctor whose first story takes place in the past

Looking from a today point of view An unearthly child is set in the past

Yes thanks Judy.

By this logic the same is true for Pertwee, Baker, McGann, Eccelston, Tennant, and Smith

that is how time works, unsurprisingly

Woah, you should write Doctor Who

takes place before 1963

It was always set in the past. 100,000 B.C.

Reminder that Moffat is primarily responsible for Chibnall being showrunner. Every time Chibnall ruins the show so by extension does Moffat.

A Fix With Sontarans 2

fucking Verity. This is all her fault.

JNT is primarily responsible for RTD because if Classic Who didn't die, there would have been no NuWho for RTD to make. Every time Chibnall ruins the show because of Moffat and RTD, so by extension does JNT. And Williams. And Hinchcliffe. And Letts. And Sherwin. And Bryant. And Lloyd. And Wiles. And Lambert.

Lambert is responsible for JNT molesting teenage boys.

If JNT hadn't molested that Russell kid, we never would have been here now

Misogynist William Hartnell is responsible for creating one of the biggest female sci-fi role models.

Whoever wrote the Epic of Gilgamesh is responsible for Chibnall Who. So is the first caveman who drew shit on his wall.

Genuine pirate episode with sea shanties and the Bermuda triangle when?

wouldn't suit this doctor and her current team

That would have existed in the Gatiss era.

I mean it was created by a woman and a jewish guy. Hartnell took a while to get past his feelings about women and jews before he took the role. He said Verity Lambert was in need of "a jolly good smacked bottom"

The Americanised versions of Fury from the Deep and The Daemons sounded GOAT, and the "Cyberon" idea sounded good as well

In an alternate timeline, Capaldi accepted the role of the Doctor for the TVM when he was offered it, and McGann took up the mantle for S8–S10 instead.

The Doctor won't be English for much longer anyway, they've already darkened the companions

Whether your pro woman doctor or not, or pro social justice or not or pro nuwho or not, the facts are things don't look good.

The ratings in the UK are down to 5mil overnights on a Sunday evening against no Opposition and is a lead in to Strictly Come Dancing and the ratings are dropping lower and lower.

The USA ratings are abysmal the show which once was a flagship for BBC America is now only getting just over a mil per episode, with many people saying they just don't like Whittaker and cant understand what she's saying.

The Australian ratings are even worse, the show has completely dropped out of the weeks top 30 programmes.

There is no Christmas special.

And now the reports are that series 12 is going to be delayed until 2020. Possibly even Autumn/Winter 2020

Can we just face facts that nuwho's days are numbered?

Forgot my flag!

It depends on audience reception, really. Americans always seem sort of inherently charmed by British people, and it would've added to the otherworldly feel of the character for them. Unlike with the BBC, the Fox version of the show would be pretty heavily focused on ratings—seeing as they are, after all, for-profit—which is why it was insisted that certain elements be added to the TVM to appeal to the mass market. If it had gone to series and the reaction to a British actor in the role was generally positive, they probably would've stuck with that, because if ain't broke, why fix it? They went through a really extensive casting process before they even got to McGann, and they were pretty dead-set on keeping that aspect of the series consistent. I think, under the same showrunner, the next Doctor would also have been British, but after that… I don't know. The thing is, any British actor taking up the role would've had to move halfway across the world for it (it must be noted here, also, that the TVM was filmed in Canada, rather than the US), and that's a lot to ask of anyone, particularly if they have family. McGann had to uproot his for the role, and he had a young son at the time too (see: pic related). I think, hiring a British actor again would only really have been viable if the show was a particular success, because you'd have a hard time convincing anyone to make that commitment for a two-bit little sci-fi gig, though I suppose there's an appeal in that it would've gotten them a foot in the door for American work. Still, I'm continually surprised that they asked so much of McGann for something they weren't sure was going to work (and actually didn't), and it's pretty remarkable that he accepted in the first place.

Yeah, there were a lot of great ideas in the series proposal. Some a little odd, too, but not necessarily bad, depending on how it was handled. I'm forever sad that we have such limited footage of the console room, too. Limited footage of McGann as the Doctor in general, really.

how did Chibnall go full George Lucas with his title conventions so quickly?

>The Woman Who Fell To Earth

decent title

>The Ghost Monument

decent title

bit overly simple but still alright

>Arachnids in the UK

the reference doesn't really work when the title is just literal but in theory it's a clever title

>The Tsuranga Conundrum

>The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos

how the fuck do you even pronounce that

I thought people were loving it though? TWWFTE had bumper ratings. Rosa was raved about like it was the best episode of Doctor Who ever made. How can popular opinion be turned in three weeks?

Arachnids in the U.K was Vinay's dumb idea.

Colm Meany

In a way I respect the American actors who were offered the job and turned it down like Tom Hanks and Jeff Goldblum for not going along and making it just another job.

When Moff's writing literally anything, he's just cackling away.

The people loving it were journalists and Twitter bloggers, normal people hate it

Colm Meany is Irish, anon

I'm positive Tom Hanks wasn't actually offered the part (at least, by the time it went from Amblin to Fox), he was just their dream casting of a "type" they were aiming for.

Bill Cosby was also "considered".

Ratings are slipping steadily, Demons had overnights of 5.7m

He's another islander who went American for that sweet sweet network sci fi money.

Actually, another actor who went American for network money has already been posted in this thread: Mark Addy had a sitcom here for a few years and had an accent so good most Americans think he's American.

Chibnall deserves these ratings for how he structured everything. He frontloaded the series with all his shit episodes and both of the agenda driven episodes. Literally anything that stood a chance is at the back end of the series.

1 for every episode pre-finale :^)

4 surprising seasons. I can't remember a single episode or, even, a single joke. The mom's hot, though.

We were theorising earlier that it'll take the form of nine callbacks to each of the previous episodes. Think Pandorica's opening.

You better start enjoying books, cause it's gonna be the only Doctor Who very very soon.

Nine distress calls = Stenza, Remnants, Krasko, Spiders, Pting, Thijarians etc.

Lol no. The ratings have been better than the entire Capaldi era. But because Series 11 sucks, people are scratching for any reason to bitch about it.

nah, the nine distress calls are coming from the nine planets of the cragbash system in the galaxy of k'nooth sharang. You'll see when we find out just who and what the ux is, and what it wants with the shikra-tooftag, and how the people of the skring-tring tribe will cope with it.

>What has happened here? What monster lurks in the woods around the cottage – and beyond?

>Who is the mysterious commander with no memory? What lies beyond the mists? Who or what are the Ux? The answers will lead the Doctor and her friends towards a deadly reckoning…

Considering the state of Tim Curry now Big Finish is probably some of the only work he'd get

Now that I'm reading through this, I see that McGann was already stateside at the time that they were considering him, but I think he would've still had to move to Canada regardless. There are more pages on the casting process, as well as pictures from some of the actor's auditions, but these are the only pages with all the names listed consecutively.

imagine if Series 9 Capaldi had a beard

Anon, before he got that stroke a couple years ago, Tim Curry would do any villain role no matter the pay. Look at his IMDB page, and you'll see a ton of TV movie roles. He was about as cheap to get as Eric Roberts or David Warner.

Will the show survive to it's 60th anniversary? If so who will return?

Tennant and Smith again

Maybe Whittaker will guilt trip Eccles into coming back. Tell him about all the working-class children whose hearts will be broken if they don't see him on-screen. He won't, but it's the thought that counts.

>Charles Dance

Hell, throw in Phil Davis and Charles Dutton and they'd have had the whole Alien3 collection. And both seem oddly absent from this list of literally every working british actor in the early-to-mid-90s.

Man, normies would have hated him even more if he had a beard wouldn't they? They'd just call him a gross old man and stuff.

>Bearded capaldi in the alley scene from Deep Breath

>necks a can of special brew and headbutts the tramp

There are so many good names here, especially Charles Dance, Ian Holm, John Hurt, Michael Gambon, Ian MacShane, Sam Neill, Jonathan Price, Patrick Stewart, Tim McInnery, Eric Idle, Ralph Fiennes, Peter Egan, Eccleston, Chris Barrie, Timothy Dalton, David Jason, Martin Clunes, Jim Broadbent, Ben Kingsley, Malcolm McDowell, Simon Callow, Stephen Dillane and Pierce Brosnan.

I'd have been happy with any of them but I'd have to say my guilty pick of the list would be Chris Barrie or Tim McInnery. They just work. Imagine David Jason, Jim Broadbent or Stephen "The Mannis" Dillane as 8. Holy fuck, my actual sides. Adam Ant and Bill Murray would have been fucking awful.

I suppose it wouldn't have made sense within the logic of the episode but it'd have been incredible if Capaldi grew a beard during his time in the confession dial and had it in Hell Bent.

It'd also reinforce the theme of him losing his sense of identity the further he went to save Clara.

>"Yes, well, I can't be the Doctor all the time!"

>Series 7-10 was a 4-season long arc about the Doctor learning to lay down his arms and forgive his warrior past

>Series 11 is about something vague involving children

Sam Neill would've been an alright choice. He'd still make a good Doctor imo. Follow him on twitter, he posts selfies with all his farm animals. It's very /comfy/

The only black actor I would accept is Craig Charles

is it an arc if it's something mentioned in 1 line in episode 2 that's never brought up again? The Cracks appeared in almost every episode in Series 5 in some capacity and we learned more and more about their nature as the series progressed. The Pandorica was namedropped in The Eleventh Hour but reitereated again mid-series at the end of Flesh & Stone. "Silence Will Fall" I'm not 100% sure on when it was mentioned but I specifically remember the villain in Vampires of Venice saying they ran from "the Silence" and when the Doctor asks her about it she says "there were Cracks. Through some we saw Silence and the end of all things"

Honestly Series 5 is the fucking gold standard in terms of how to develop and maintain the mystery of an arc throughout the entire series without it feeling intrusive or overly complicated

If Red Dwarf came out now, boardies would call it a SJW show just because it has two black main characters, and Rimmer gets shit on every episode.

he's definitely not mediocre but I remember Moffat saying Chewitel Ejiofor was one of the actors considered for the 11th Doctor. I don't know if he'd have been better than Smith (unless the 11th Doctor was completely rewritten to suit Ejiofor) but he'd make a great Doctor

boardies call everything "SJW" now. It could be all white men and they'd still find something to get upset about. The term has lost all meaning.

the fact Red Dwarf has been going so long is kind of kino, because of the premise of the show being that they're stranded in space forever, so the fact that they age and never really grow up is the highest kino. There's a few seasons in a row though that are kind of shit, but I find some of the recent few seasons really funny again

1 and 2 are some of my favourites because they seem so bored throughout it.

and holly got a sex-change, and kochanski is better than all the men at everything

I think that a lot of tarnished icons are going to go into hibernation or die as frustrated executives find themselves unwilling to fully commit to the idea that they made a mistake by going all in on left wing politics and need to call up some people who like Aristotle to guide them going forward. Instead, what they're trying to do is convince white men that the far left is not malicious without actually abandoning a single one of their bigoted and hypocritical positions; at best, they acknowledge a twisted semi-strawman version of the complaints leveled at them and try to grant white men a low position on the progressive stack as an olive branch (not without portraying them as petty and irrational in the process, of course).

Remember when chibnalls "vision" caused a man to have to work tielessly whilst his mother was literally dying right next to him.

Opinions on >>144613 and >>144614 being confirmed real?

Steven Moffat has said that Peter Capaldi “came close” to staying on in Doctor Who.

The Twelfth Doctor will regenerate in the 2017 Christmas special, but he could have carried on into Chris Chibnall’s debut series.

“It took Peter a long time to make up his mind,” Moffat tells Broadcast in a new interview.

“Chris tried to persuade him to stay [on for Series 11 in 2018].”

He adds: “I knew it was a possibility that he’d leave because Doctors tend to do three years. I thought that he might want to opt out, rather than go through the trauma of a change in command and maybe leaving a year later anyway. But I think he came close to staying.”

You know how Tom Baker looks dead inside and wasted during his final season. That's what Capaldi would have looked if he stayed on for S11.

dont you wonder sometimes

bout chibnalls vision

It’s been eight months since Peter Capaldi stated that he hadn’t made my mind up over whether he would return as the Doctor for Chris Chibnall’s Series 11 in 2018.

In-between that time rumours have swirled that the BBC want a “clean slate” with a new, younger Doctor to take over.

However Capaldi has now claimed he still hasn’t actually made the crucial decision whether to stay on or not.

Speaking to Wales Online he said: “I’ve been asked to stay on and I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision. I’m trying to avoid it!”

He continues: “Doctor Who does take a lot of time, but it’s a wonderful use of it. It’s special. I’m lucky enough to be in touch with other Doctors, and we all agree how extraordinary it is to be in this position. To decide to leave is a tough decision for everybody. [It was] very tough for Steven, so I’m just putting it off for as long as possible.”

The article concludes:

If he does decide to stay for series 11, which would start in 2018, it might mean he’d celebrate a landmark birthday as the Doctor.

“That would be a good way to spend your 60th birthday, don’t you think?” he says.

>There was an episode set in a gender swapped universe where they learn the errors of their misogynistic ways, and it even has a pregnant man. Fucking SJWs, retroactively taking over the 1980s

Red Dwarf is a sit-com, stereotypes about men and women are played for laughs. The audience isn't being taught an "important lesson" about relations between the sexes.

>kochanski is better than all the men at everything

The tutting, finger wagging strong and capable women of yesteryear aren't the same as the "strong women" characters of today. A lot of "strong women" characters written today are morally bankrupt violent misandrists who appeal only to "yasss queen" types on twitter.

Quite glad actually, Capaldi didn't deserve these awful scripts.

>Series 5 finale

>alliance of villians, mix of Classic Who/nuWho/previous Series 5 villains

>Cybermen, Autons, Daleks, Sontarans, Silurians, etc.

>is surprising to the viewer but makes complete narrative sense why they'd be teaming up together

>Series 11 finale

>alliance of previous villains from Series 11

>the Stenza…. those rags… that racist guy…. uh.. spiders? except they were actually good? the P'ting? even though he was just hungry? the assassin guys from Demons of the Punjab who were pacifists and not the actual villains? uhhh

>no shock value since the viewers have no memory of who most of them are

>it's written by Chris Chibnall so it will undoubtedly make no narrative sense

what more could you want? :^)

will we stream it?

and lego

Of the ones right now:

Lidster > Goss > Guerrier > Fountain > Dorney > Morris > Adams > Magrs > Rayner > Colgan > McCormack > Fitton > Benedict > Briggs > Richards > Smith. I'm sure I missed 20 other writers.

I've figured out the problem with this series. Doctor Who can have a bad monster of the week plot if its supplemented with good character writing. Doctor Who can have bad character writing if its supplemented with a good monster of the week plot. Series 11 hasn't really done either so far.

Like compare Smile/Ghost Monument.

Both had low stakes, and were mostly walking around pretty scenery. and had rushed endings. Yet Smile was enjoyable because the character writing was acceptable, the dialogue between 12/Bill was enjoyable as was Bills reaction to the planet. Where as the character writing in Ghost Monument was pretty much bland the whole episode.

Basically, Moffat could have saved this series. Bring back the Moff.

true. I like the recent ones though, even if they're not quite as good as the early seasons, and are extremely self referential

>They're alive Arnold

<What about Hollister?

>Hollister's alive. They're all alive, Nobody's dead Arnold

>Even Lister?

>DOCTOR: Can't I ever have peace? Can't I rest?

>BILL: Of course you can.

>NARDOLE: It's your choice.

>BILL: Only yours.

>NARDOLE: We understand.

imagine chibnall condoning suicide

I feel like that's what S11 is.

Remember this interview from before Series 11 aired?

>Chris also isn't too worried about the pressure 'Doctor Who' will put on his work schedule, as he's "already talking" about his next projects.

>He explained to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I expect 'Doctor Who' is going to take over my life to a certain degree but I'm already talking about the next play I'll do.

>"It might take a couple of years but I've already got an idea for my next play."

I remember reading this and I just knew S11 was gonna be a dumpster fire. Poor Jodie. Chibnall's heart is not in it.

Why doesn't /who/ talk about the Tintin movie? It's a blockbuster film co-written by Moffat and Edgar Wright. And I remember it being kino.

You don't even have to showrun consecutive years in order.

May the saints of all the stars and constellations bring you hope as they guide you out of the dark and into the light on this voyage and the next, and all the journeys still to come. For now and evermore.

To be fair, it's not like Moffat only did Doctor Who during his tenure either.

it's because even the worst episodes (bar possibly The Lie of the Land) in Series 10, and most of the rest of Doctor Who, are structured according to a particular theme that the story is supposed to illuminate

chibnall writes the story and throws in a bunch of fun facts and talking points with no regard for how they fit together

this is why Demons of the Punjab is far and away the best episode of the series so far even though it hasn't really blown anyone away. it's the only one that attempts to make it's elements and character moments fit together well enough to have actual themes, instead of a series of moments that are all trying to do one thing with no regard for how they work in concert with the others.

>le bennydick cabbagepatch show

I feel like he's actively promoting it

I think the reason why Series 10 is so meh for me

is that I never really cared that much about Bill as a companion. I didn't dislike her or anything, but she wasn't as compelling and interesting to watch as Clara or even Amy and Rory were. Maybe it's because she didn't get enough time to develop (if I based my opinion of Clara just on Series 7 I definitely wouldn't consider her my favorite companion) or because I always knew she wasn't going to last longer than 1 series since Moffat and Capaldi were both leaving.

I also think Moffat felt the same way for the most part. He'd have never in a million years had Amy, Rory, or Clara get shot at the beginning of the penultimate episode, spend the rest of that episode with them alone with The Master, end that episode with them getting turned into a Cyberman just before the Doctor arrives to save them, and not reverse that fate in the finale. He wouldn't even have done that to Nardole. But with Bill, it worked. Even Twelve seemed kinda resolved to her fate in The Doctor Falls. He spent 4.5 billion years punching a wall and dying over and over in order to finally return to Gallifrey and force the Time Lords to save Clara's life when she died. Bill being a Cyberman was just kinda an afterthought for him. Maybe he was too preoccupied with the two Masters and everything else going on in that episode, but every time Twelve and Bill interact in TDF it's like Twelve has a moment of "oh shit right Bill's a Cyberman now, fuck that sucks" and then forgets about it again when he walks away

>Chains keep us together (run into the shadows)

Is it possible the suicidality of Capaldi Who comes from personal experience? ie, has Moffat killed himself before?

>The Doctor is a mary sue for Moffat to live out his urges of tempting young women to travel with him

>Doctor gets suicidal in final episode

should we be worried?

i feel like you worded this wrong

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to hear that moffat has struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts

Tintin is kino, and no one talks about it anywhere. It's so weird how forgotten that movie is. When you look at the cast and crew it sounds like a fake "dream casting" list someone would make on imdb.

>Directed by Steven Spielberg

>Produced by Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy

>Screenplay by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, and Joe Cornish

>Jamie Bell

>Andy Serkis

>Daniel Craig

>Nick Frost AND Simon Pegg

>Music by John Williams

>Edited by Michael Kahn

fucking insane. It's really strange how the script doesn't feel like a script by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright, and Joe Cornish though. If it was co-written by Moffat and some generic Hollywood guy then it'd make more sense but all of those writers have their voice felt in everything they've written except for this.

no, I think he knew exactly what he was doing

>The Return of Doctor Mysterio

One of the worst Christmas specials, a real chore to sit through and the superhero angle is just cringeworthy

One of the worst most boring and shit episodes of Nu-Who, honestly intolerable

Okay. Shits the bed in the last third and has a nonsensical ending, but it at least tried to do something

>Thin Ice

The Beast Below but really fucking boring and it's marred by weird historical revisionism

>Knock Knock

Okay, very reminiscent of Torchwood Series 1 in that it's a fun watch but not really a good story, wouldn't be out of place in Series 2

Snoozeworthy, I think people's love for this one is perhaps wanting to love on Mathieson for his previous great episodes

>Monks Trilogy

Really didn't need three episodes, very weak concept in the first place. Lie of the Land is doubly shit.

>Empress of Mars

Plain awful, one of Gatiss' worst.

>The Eaters of Light

Actually liked this one and have no problems with it other than the problems inherent to Series 10 as a whole. Bravo Rona.

>WEAT / The Doctor Falls

Like I even need to say, it's kino. It just works brilliantly. Didn't really care for the Bill/Nardole stuff because they were awful companions but I understand why it was there.

It's something called a joke.

i loved the tintin comics, i should really check out sometime

>can't even get a 10-episode series out on a regular yearly basis

>trying to do other projects at the same time

>fun watch

chibnall spotted. GET THE PITCH FORK BOIS.

>tfw reading tintin comics in library time at school

based and tinpilled

>If it was co-written by Moffat and some generic Hollywood guy then it'd make more sense but all of those writers have their voice felt in everything they've written except for this.

If you mix red, blue, and yellow together, you usually get brown.

We watched half of this in year 10 religion and that's literally the entirety of my experience with this film

what does tintin have to do with religion?

All we watched in christian education was the Blind Side

religious studies are a load of bullshit, my RS teacher in high school showed the class 9/11 conspiracy videos

Nothing, it was the end of the term and we had no work left so we watched a movie instead

I remember having a big argument with a history teacher that tries to show Zeitgeist to the class once lol

>tfw christian school made us do a biblical studies class during the HSC year, and it was purely focused on christianity rather than being an actual interesting religious studies class

>everyone complained about it, including parents, but the school didn't care because they thought it was morally beneficial

it just got put on Prime Instant Video (at least in the US, dunno about the UK). Definitely worth a watch. Some of the motion capture has aged kinda funny if you stare at it for too long but it's stylized enough to work. It's not creepy like those Robert Zemeckis mo-cap movies are.

Also has the best directed action sequence of the 21st century in it. Anyone who says Spielberg has lost his touch or doesn't make movies like he used to just doesn't watch his modern films

we watched that too haha. I also remember the spanish teacher showing us some of labyrinth, but she got in trouble

im gay!

mods sticky this wow

it's time to share an unpopular bf opinion

after having listened to a significant amount of audios featuring her, i don't understand the hype that so many fans have about charley. some of my favourite audios put great significance on her relationship with the doctor, but i've never actually felt convinced by it. i get that she has a crush, but the doctor makes it clear it's not reciprocated, at least not in any way that she'd like, and he generally seems to be downright uncomfortable with it all. despite this, i see them lauded as the ultimate doctor/companion romance. maybe i'm spoiled by the length of the the dw books i've been reading, allowing for more drawn-out storylines, but i also feel like there's a lack of significant development before we reach audios like scherzo and we're expected to believe there's some sort of deep, near-fanatical devotion. i would've expected the subject matter of scherzo to be relevant only further down the line, though i appreciated it as a sort of character study into the doctor's approach to love. as for charley herself, her jealousy whenever the doctor interacts meaningfully with someone else is a little grating, and hardly fair to the doctor. it's not that i dislike her, i think she's lovely enough, she just rubs me the wrong way sometimes. perhaps in the few audios i have left to get through, things may change. at the moment, i can't say i'm convinced.

holy shit

Why didn’t the pting have a funny catchphrase or make imitatable sounds?

Series 11 gives off the same energy as this song

chibbers probably thought the name itself was funny and memorable enough

Charley is hella annoying

What auds (audios) do you have left?

Why was it the british’s fault?

terror firma, scaredy cat, other lives, time works, something inside, memory lane, absolution and the girl who never was. i'm putting them in spoiler text because i think that last one might be when charley and eight part ways, though i don't know for sure. i'd like to enjoy charley more than i currently do, but all this time i just feel like i've yet to be sold on her fully.

also, i really appreciate that you shortened audios and then immediately had to type the full thing out anyway to explain. it was utterly useless, i love it.

Chibnall keeps leaving me feeling unsatisfied, frustrated and horny.

Is Chibnall the ugliest showrunner? His jawline makes me want to vomit

I think the british partitioning india, palestine and ireland were all a great idea. All really well thought out.

This but unironically.
