 No.156723

there was a post here a few days ago asking what we would do for our first series if we took over as showrunner and people seemed to like my ideas so I've been adding to my list since then, here's an updated version:

>cast Jason Flemyng as 14 (alternate casting: Cillian Murphy)

>companion is a young journalist who wants to do a story on the Doctor and he can't be bothered to sit and answer questions so he decides to take her along with him on his adventures to show her instead

>Cast Sean Harris as The Master (who is trying to "atone" for turning good as Missy by "making up for lost cruelty" in his words) or as The Valeyard idk

>Open invitation to writers/directors of the Moffat-era (plus RTD) as well as “new” writers who would be good fits for a one-of episode like Vince Gilligan, Charlie Brooker, Joss Whedon, etc.

>King Arthur episode (with Cybermen maybe?)

>Feudal Japan episode with Sea Devils

>Dalek two-parter that isn’t announced as a two-parter. The first episode is promoted as its own standalone thing with the Dalek presence kept a secret. There’s also only 1 Dalek, since they’re no longer scary when there’s a hundred CGI ones flying around all episode
>First part: “Mutually Assured Destruction” - Cold War-era episode where the Doctor discovers the United States has “found” a new weapon that they believe would help them defeat the Soviet Union: a Dalek. Cliffhanger ending leads into…

>”Exodus of the Daleks" - The Dalek escapes to the USSR with the intention of making the Soviets and Americans fire their nukes at each other, destroying the Earth and “terraforming” it into being the next Dalek homeworld. The Doctor tricks the Dalek into causing the Chernobyl disaster, destroying the Dalek averting its plans. Or something, idk about the details but the climax takes place in Chernobyl

(part 1 of 2)

No it wasn't, it was a ratings killer. No one wanted to see a Doctor who was rude and inconsiderate. They wanted a SHINING PILLAR OF HOPE.

 No.156725

>>156723

(cont'd, part 2 of 2)

>Terracotta Army Weeping Angels episode set in the Qin Dynasty

>Christmas Special that's a semi-retelling of The Nutcracker

>another idea would be to combine the King Arthur episode with the Christmas episode and have a retelling of the Sword in the Stone with the Doctor in the role of Merlin

>*Another* Christmas Special idea would be to remake The Wizard of Oz with the Doctor as Dorothy, K9 as Toto, an Auton as the Scarecrow, a Cyberman (Handles 2.0?) as the Tinman, Drax as the Cowardly Lion, and Missy as the Wicked Witch
>Episode partially made in claymation (maybe get Aardman to do it)

>Episode that takes place over multiple time periods between 1963 and modern day where the sequences in each time period the Doctor/companion travel to are filmed like how episodes of Doctor Who would’ve looked that year (ie: ‘60s scene is black and white, mid-2000s is SD with that shitty bloom effect, modern day is HD, etc.)

that's all I have so far

I liked that the Doctor addressed the fact that she would have an easier time in the past if she was still a man. I can't believe it took 8 episodes for the Doctor being a woman to have some relevance, though. Even if it was just a throwaway line. Chibnall's insistance on writing Thirteen to be completely genderless has always felt like it was defeating the point in casting a woman. If you're gonna go for it, fucking go for it.

Eric Saward quit as script editor during the writing for Trial of a Time Lord because of Bonnie Langford being cast or something equally childish. He then went to do an interview with a fan magazine where he shittalked JNT and Colin. Pip and Jane recount that they saw JNT crying over lunch while reading the interview and they had to console him. Saward also hated Colin and kept him separate from the plot during the one 6 episode he wrote, only meeting Davros at the very end before the assassins defeat Davros. There’s one episode Colin doesn’t do a commentary for in era and Saward is on that commentary. Saward only did one other commentary and it was by himself for one episode of Trial in addition to the regular Trial commentary which included Colin.

12's console room, whilst not entirely fitting this description, was interesting because it had that sort of sharp-edged, functional design, but was offset by all the comfy stuff he added to it, and the choice of warmer lighting. compare it to when 11 was using the same interior, with the lighting and the lack of any personal effects; it came across a lot colder and less whimsical, which was sort of a reflection of 11's mindset at the time, at least when it was first introduced. though i'm fond of comfy console rooms (see: 8's), i think there's definitely something nice in a design that's not inherently comfy but little knick-knacks and signs of life that the doctor amasses over time end up making it comfy anyway. obligatory note about how 13's interior is visually unfortunate, and fails to capture any of that comfy spirit, or insight into the doctor's psyche, etc. etc.

It’s in the Victorian age. Josiah wants to kill Queen Victoria. The house is one that Ace burned to the ground in the modern day because she felt it was haunted. The servants are all human and there’s even a Neanderthal that Josiah collected when they first arrived on the planet.

 No.156834

A group of Eternals led by Light plan on cataloging every single life form to ever exist and arrive on Earth. Light goes into hibernation after picking up a Neanderthal and while he's asleep one of the Eternals who acts as the Survey (Josiah) rebels against Light. Redvers finds the stone spaceship in the late 1800's, brings it to Perivale and places it in the basement of a house where Josiah chooses to live but not before sending everyone in the house insane, making them subservient and killing Gwendoline's father. Redvers goes insane after seeing Light's true form and is locked up.

The Doctor arrives in order to get Ace to face her fears about the house (Ace burnt down the house in the 1980's after Neo Nazis burnt out her friends flat while feeling an alien evil). Josiah plans to use Redvers Fenn Cooper to get within shooting distance of the Queen and usurp the throne. Light ends up waking and is very angry to find out that his entire collection is useless since it's evolved since he catalogued it so he throws a tantrum and tries to destroy Earth in a fireball but The Doctor fucks with his mind and Light essentially commits suicide but not before leaving an imprint on the house (which causes Ace to burn it down in the 1980's

I agree with @Clowfish TV's assessment, there is nothing wrong with the actors Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker's acting ability. You can really see it at times, more so with Jodie Whittaker. The problem is with the writing. At least Jodie was able to do more with how she portrays her character than Peter was able to. In my opinion, if Jodie was given the same scripts as Matt Smith, she would have done a great job. I even think that the episodes that she was in would have been much better if they were written to the same quality as pre-Peter Capaldi episodes. I think that they finally got back to writing the Doctor Who character right, like they used to do previous to Peter, but the rest of the story is lacking the flair that the first 7 seasons had. To be fair, the way they wrote Matt Smith as Doctor Who wasn't always great, but the rest of the writing carried the story. In the mean time, I will continue to watch Doctor Who, hoping for the writing to get better. At least, this is my 2 cents.

I don't mind the messaging or anything, I'm just sort of jonesing for some EPIC SHIT.

Are you actually suggesting that clara’s nan, a character who shows explicit sexual interest in a naked 11, was not written as a sexual fantasy?

'I approached Russell T Davies with the idea of Big Finish making a Rose Tyler spin-off,’ says producer David Richardson. ‘He was very enthusiastic - as always - and suggested we followed Rose’s journey that ultimately leads to her finding the Doctor in The Stolen Earth. I found the proposal irresistible, and instantly script editor Matt Fitton and I were throwing around ideas. There is a whole multiverse of possibilities. Russell suggested including Jackie and Pete, and embraced my idea of including a parallel universe version of Clive - who of course was killed off in the TV series (in the 2005 episode Rose).

‘Russell guided us gently through the development - steering us towards ideas that worked brilliantly, ensuring things that needed improvement were fixed, and also throwing out the ideas that didn’t work. I’m absolutely delighted with what we have - a family drama about the end of worlds. It’s about love and loss and things that might have been - and our brilliant cast have embraced the emotional scripts.’

I don't blame Vinay or Malorie for writing what they wrote, their careers are built from capitalising on their identities so of course that's where they'd go with it. It's what they write. I blame Chibnall for enabling it and not guiding them toward something a little less dull. Note how the Witchfinders didn't shy away from showing injustice but also didn't dedicate it's whole runtime to some "important" exploration of historical grievances instead of you know, science-fiction.

One of the many reasons why this wiki doesn't always 100% match /who/ is because /who/ changed a lot during the past year, more than anybody seems to acknowledge. The descrepencies between this wiki and /who/ are not, in fact, exclusively the Redditers' and Facebookers' fault, though they didn't help. When I first joined /who/, less than a year ago, lots of different people came with lots of different ideas. Since then, its userbase, opinions, and conversation topics seem to have been shrinking, and this wiki has lots of old articles that sometimes reflects what /who/ used to be like and what its users used to talk about. In all fairness, the change is not entirely anybody's fault. The Revived version of the show was on for twelve years, so it's no longer event television, so fewer people are invested in it. It was only a matter of time until /who/ began to weaken. To counter this problem, we should probably move it all to the forums or the Discord, which are both more easily accessible to new recruits, so that it would gain new blood and some fresh, inspired memes. (not sexist)

I think that a big part of why the partition occured (not the only part, before you get pedantic) is because a bunch of (white) british people drew up said border. Making it about why the partition occured would mean that the whiteys are the villains instead of the hindus surely? I felt that Demons didn't rail against the british nearly enough given the subject matter. There's one line about how the british government didn't think the border through properly, and that's about it. They've taken a time period where the british government did something at best badly thought out, at worst malicious, and made brown hindus the bad guy. What more could you want here?

If you want a reason why the more villainous ones are hindus, and not muslims, I think I should point out that the writer comes from a hindu background, so he probably felt more comfortable showing shitty things hindus did, and not shitty things muslims did

Why even do that? The Tenth Doctor era that Chibnall/Strevens desperately want to emulate had season arcs and required people to watch at least some of the episodes in order.

Just to illustrate:

New Earth - Not really important this season, but does build up the New Earth arc

Tooth and Claw - Introduces the Torchwood arc

School Reunion - Rose learns that she's not the first love in the Doctor's life. Mickey becomes a companion.

The Girl in the Fireplace - Not necessary for season arc.

Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel - One of the main villains of this season is introduced. Mickey leaves.

The Idiot's Lantern - Not necessary for this season arc.

The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit - Not necessary for this season arc.

Love & Monsters - Shows how Jackie's opinion on the Doctor has changed.

Fear Her - Not necessary for this season arc.

Army of Ghosts/Doomsday - Arc finale
