>Q: Why does [Paul Cornell] think you're [Lawrence Miles] a misogynist?

>A: Because of my fanzine. The one I give out at the Tavern. I keep taking the piss out of Kate Orman, so in Shagger Cornell's world that means I hate women. It's the way things work on his planet. All right, let's get down to basics here. We're talking about a man who spends his life acting like a caring, sharing new man just so he can get into the pants of as many women as possible. And this isn't just me being bitter, some of Paul's own friends told me this about him even before I'd met the man. In a court of law, the character witnesses would be lined up around the building three-deep. And I'm a misogynist for having a go at Kate Orman. This is getting really perosnal now, isn't it? Maybe we should go back to focusing on Krotons.

>I’ve tried to be nice to him. I've always tried. But if he can't shag you, he's just not interested. The only sure-fire way to get on that man's good side is by having XX chromosomes. He's never had any patience with me at all. That was the really funny thing about that interview he did, where he started slagging me off. He said the politics in INTERFERENCE reminded him of a "seventeen-year-old virgin". It was just so telling, because what he's actually saying there, when it comes down to it, is: "I'm wiser than you are because I've shagged more birds." I mean, fair enough, he probably has had sex with more people than I have.

I'm really looking forward to Jodie's Doctor in the TARDIS, because once she's an idea in your head as the viewer, she can do anything. Whether I enjoy her show or not, I'm bound to like her - this is a new Doctor. It means I've got another chance to put a character I love into any setting I like, read any novels or comics or listen to any audios (eventually) that I want, write anything I want, and it will feel fresh again. when neoliberals talk about breaking down the gender binary, they don't mean destroying the ideas of sex and gender altogether - which is what should happen. what they actually mean is destroying poisonous "traditional" gender roles and replacing them with equally poisonous capitalist gender roles. men and women are being reshaped into better consumers and i think the "soyboy" phenomenon is an example of this. alt-right conspiracy theorists have unintentionally provided a criticism of the economic system they love so much and i find that hilarious. however, i don't think you can seperate this from the inherent transphobia and misogyny (see >>16955) and i feel sorry for anyone who unironically believes that "soyboys" have anything to do with soy

That's what they're doing all the time. They denounce Marx but have locked themselves in a twisted parody of him with the exact same working class vs. ruling class dynamic, except with members woefully misidentified.

this does not square with the existence of the transgender community

 No.16972

>>16971

i've talked to trans people about this before and i'm still unsure on how this is the case. abolishing gender only makes it easier for trans people to wear what they want, get reassignment surgery, etc. because they are not deviating from any specific binary.

 No.16973

>>16971

Despite the name 'gender dysphoria', actual transgender people are bothered by the genitals they possess (you could call it sex dysphoria). That's got nothing to do with the modern social concept of gender.

"I like things that are stereotypically associated with women so I must be female" is a gross misunderstanding of transgenderism, and it's a mistake that people on both sides of the issue make

 No.16974

>>16973

A lot of trans people readily admit that they're "performing" a notion of femininity (I'm sure this applies to masculinity as well but I've only heard it from the other end), a notion that is predicated on max consumerism and max impracticality. I'm talking things like makeup, dresses heels etc.

>>16972

Abolishing gender means abolishing the very pillar that the existence of trans people (or at least a large percentage of them, there's so many conflicting ideologies) is based on, so that argument seems self-defeating. But I'll happily admit I'm very, very confused by the whole thing because there seems to be no consistent rulebook I can argue for or against.

Obviously it would be extremely white liberal to think you can just go "bang and the gender is gone!" since that's running roughshod over people's actual lived experiences (trans and cis alike), but the gradual erosion of gender restrictions/punishments can logically only terminate in the ultimate breakdown of gender as a set of rules (perhaps to be replaced by gender as an improvised performance, free of orthodoxy).

i think sex should be abolished too. split sex and gender into their parts, the behaviours, the clothes, the genitals, etc. so that having a penis or vagina is like having an innie or outie belly button, or fair or dark hair, rather than being something we use to ascribe labels to people.

dysphoria would still exist - you can get rid of sex and gender, allow anyone to wear dresses, makeup, have beards, etc. but dysphoria is more than that. namely, the physical aspect. however, reassignment surgery will eventually be perfected - certainly by the time sex and gender have been destroyed - to fully change a person's phenotype and even genotype. the physical and mental aspects of dysphoria will be conquered and it will be easily curable

 No.16983

>>16973

>actual transgender people are bothered by the genitals they possess

that's part of it. gender dysphoria affects people in lots of different ways. some trans people are more uncomfortable with their jawline, or their voice, or bodyhair, or shoulder width, etc. you can't boil it down to just one thing. dysphoria comes in bundles and the intensity/focus varies from person to person

also

>actual transgender people

fuck off

>"I like things that are stereotypically associated with women so I must be female"

nobody transitions because of thoughts like that. it's more like "i'd be far more happy/comfortable if myself and others viewed me as a woman, so I must be female"

 No.16984

Do you recognise that competitive male and female sports categories have distinctly different 'peak' ability ranges - and that in many contexts, men with peak ability outperform women at their peak ability? what i mean is, currently "sex" and "gender" are these sets of unconnected characteristics - what you wear, how you behave, what's in your pants, etc. the only thing holding these characteristics together is the overarching labels of sex and gender. get rid of the labels and you split the characteristics apart. without sex or gender, having long hair and wearing lipstick would not be inherently connected, as they are now through the label "female". get rid of this label and they would be unrelated, like wearing white shoes and having blue eyes, or having long arms and wearing a hat. we don't have a label for people who wear white shoes and have blue eyes, or people who have long arms and wear a hat. why do we have a label - "female" - for people who wear dresses and have lipstick and have vaginas etc. etc.? destroy the labels and these characteristics are split apart. thats what i mean

It's very dated, it seems to describe a specific late-20th-century type of militant lesbian feminist rather than the broader scope that exists now.

What I find especially funny is the attempts to claim that "TERF is a slur" are only possible because, somehow, unbelievably, no-one has actually made up an insulting funny nickname for them yet. We should have been through at least three by now but "TERF" hangs over the discourse like an albatross.

>Marxist Feminism holds that the mode of production in capitalist societies is organized in a way that favors men’s abilities over women’s. As opposed to Radical Feminists, who see patriarchy as the source of gender inequality, Marxist Feminists see capitalism as the cause. Marxist Feminists argue that the structures of capitalist economies coerce women into assuming responsibility for unpaid domestic tasks (such as homemaking and child-rearing) while leaving men free to earn money in the public sphere. Gender equality can therefore never be achieved in a capitalist economy.

>While Marxist Feminism was originally about economic revolution, more recent writers have changed their focus from economic issues to cultural ones, placing more of an emphasis on the fight for social justice than the fight to topple capitalism.

>Not just women, but also people of color, sexual minorities, and transgender people have become focal points for Marxist Feminism in recent years. Intersectional Feminism is essentially a fusion of Marxist Feminist and Cultural Feminist ideas.

>"physical ability differences between sexes exist and should not be ignored, because to do so would mean many women would be ruled out of ever winning anything in their sport"

Pretty easy to accomplish this. Abolish men's categories, replace it with a category open to everybody, but maintain women's categorizes which are closed off to men. That way one category consists solely of the best of the best, no matter their gender, while women who can't compete at those levels still have a space.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure this test accurately distinguishes between "society shapes women with fewer artifacts of toxic masculinity" and "women are inherently better uwu" (gender essentialist gubbins).

I also have literally no idea where that 13% Traditionalism came from either since I don't remember giving a single conservative answer…maybe because I hit strong disagree on criminalising sex work?

The outcome of this is the same as having separate gender categories, only this is arguably more insulting to women.

The only way it would be the same is if male coaches etc. refused to tryout women or ignored when there was one that performed better. There are already women that are better at what they do then men are.

This works too. A tier-based system of different levels of skill, like how boxing has lightweights, heavyweights, etc.

>>17064

Like right now. I had an argument with cats months ago about how the sex/gender distinction isn't actually helpful and is often used in harmful ways against trans people and now he seems to have taken that on-board somewhat.
