 No.175826

Doctor Who got woke. And it's in the process of going broke. More than 75% of the fans are gone now - both old and new. The last 2 series have been so abhorrent that they just couldn't continue to bear it. Once or twice, we could have forgiven. But, the whole show got taken over. So, we're gone now. The show will have to live on license fees because SJWs never actually SUPPORT what they appropriate. Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Star Trek - all in serious trouble or destroyed financially.

 No.175827

>>175826

Speak for yourself. I've paid over the course of my 9 years as a fan over three thousand dollars worth of DVD's, Magazines, action figures, and books about the show and am now getting into the Audio Dramas. You want to talk about me supporting Doctor Who, I'm a more loyal fan probably then you because I will defend this show to the death, and when I get bored of all other shows, the only one that will remain a constant source in my life will be Doctor Who. You'll probably quit it because The Doctor's a woman now. I however, will remain a loyal and adherent fan for the rest of my life. This show saved me from suicide and because of that, I have declared it my religion. Are you willing to make this show your religion or do you not support the show hard enough like I do to do so?

 No.175828

>>175827

LOL. Look, bonehead. You have no idea who you're talking to. I WORKED for Doctor Who through PBS here in Northeast USA from 1985-1988. I met EVERYONE from the show back then because we hosted appearances and events. I got to spend days with actors, directors, producers, writers, and technical crew. Some of whom, I've spoken to over the years. Terrance Dicks - the man who wrote the many Dalek stories has said the show has become a joke - and that was during the Smith era. I agreed with him. Before 1985, I was a Doctor Who fan from 1977. So, yeah, you've been a fan for 9 years. Great! I've been a fan for 40+. You want to support a hateful ideology taking over the show, you go right ahead. But, most of us will not. In fact, the fan-base has been decimated by what you promote and celebrate. So, are you a fan of Doctor Who or are you a fan of Toxic Feminism? I think you're more a fan of the latter. That's why you'd celebrate it rather than what is GOOD for the show.

 No.175829

What a coincidence, that’s what my dissertation is on

 No.175830

I've watched Dr. Who since the early 70's. It has gone from one of the most imaginative and thrilling franchises in TV history, to a plodding, poorly written vehicle for Post Modernism. It is truly sad, like seeing a Van Gough vandalized by having political graffiti scrawled all over it. The BBC should be ashamed of itself.

 No.175831

feminism ruins everything rahrahrah misandry

 No.175832

So what exactly wasn't inclusive about doctor who already? Seriously series 9 managed to have an interracial relationship, captain Jack as a bisexual character and plenty of diversity. Guess what the difference was though? We didn't get beaten over the head with it!

I heard the new year special is going to be called Brexit and the snowflakes, its going to edutain us on why brexit is wrong and show us a destroyed Britain unless we have a revote.

 No.175836

Brilliant analysis, spot on and I'm a girl (well, nearly 49 year "auld" woman). I've been watching since mid 70's Tom Baker was my first Doctor). I'm a dual national (US/Irish, Up the Banner :)) anyway, was living in London when the Doctor Who BBC film with Paul McGann was on, I didn't go out to the pub I was so excited to watch it. It's all just PC/NPC shite, they just jammed the "gender swap" idea into Capaldi's last season to justify the change to Jodie as Chibbs said he was NEVER going to cast a man. I watched the first episode, the second episode…and I was done. It's just too painful. I'll watch Classic Who & Nu Who up until Season 9 (only saw Capaldi's last season when it aired, was just too cringe-worthy). Great video, I'm now a new sub. Cheers.Jenny

 No.175837

Moffat tried to undo everything Russell T Davies did. He made the show more immature and brought it back to being a kid's show. He brought back Gallifrey, for no good reason. He made the Time Lords good, just with one 30 second speech from the Doctor. I hated them bringing back Gallifrey, but I at least thought there would be a great conflict between the Doctor and the time Lord council. Nope. What about all the other things that would have been brought back too? Nope. I like several episodes during Matt Smith's run (and Karen Gillan was gold), but the decline was noticeable.

09:59

do it let's do it okay so as a side note

10:02

um a few friends who give me the idea of

10:05

doing something it's like it's just a

10:07

funny fun type of thing because I've

10:09

been seeing a lot of Doctor Who series

10:11

you know like fan films and fan movies

10:14

etc fan podcasts all that kind of

10:16

mountain and find audiobooks so my

10:18

friends gave me the idea of like doing

10:20

some sort of like you know my own

10:22

version version of a Doctor Who movie or

10:25

a Doctor Who audio book something like

10:27

that something you know something like

10:28

that so the thing is I'm interested in

10:30

the idea but I wanna know what you guys

10:32

think but the main thing I'm looking for

10:34

right now is I'm looking for people who

10:36

can help with that so I'm mostly looking

10:38

for a female companion so if you're our

10:41

female companion mostly you're mostly

10:43

attractive you know you don't need to

10:44

have the best looking body in the world

10:45

it's all I'm being sarcastic okay so I

10:48

need we do it seriously we do need a

10:50

female companion maybe a male companion

10:52

something like that and somebody his

10:54

goodness I can do we can do everything

10:56

else ourselves but we just need you know

10:58

a female companion something one you get

11:01

me so if you're interested my email is

11:04

11:04

11:06

then you can contact us it'll be pretty

11:09

11:11

should be pretty fun thank you so much

11:12

 No.176289

I'm very happy with Series 11's viewing figures, but I completely understand why some people have a bad outlook about them. Namely: Nearly 11m people watched The Woman Who Fell to Earth, and of course they did, not just because of the new Doctor but because of all the publicity/controversy over her being a her! But for all intents and purposes, the early high ratings (nearly 11m on The Woman Who Fell to Earth, and 9m on The Ghost Monument) are outliers that can be safely ignored.

And when you do look past them, the picture isn't nearly as pretty. From episodes 1-9, the view counts dropped with every new episode, falling from 8.41m with Rosa to 6.42m by It Takes You Away. That's a significantly bigger drop than we've seen with any prior series, and across only 10 episodes! Even when the numbers went up again for the finale, it was still watched by more than 1 million fewer people than the S8 finale, yielding a number more on par with where we were at the end of S9 than anything in Tennant's or Smith's eras.

I don't mean to be a downer, but we can't pretend this is all sunshine and lollipops. The show is going on another year-long hiatus before S12 (relevant username). Will a year's worth of hindsight be kind to S11? Its average AI is already more than a full point below anything we saw with Capaldi, with four separate episodes sitting on or below the magical 80 line that was only crossed once in S8-10. I expect that when Doctor Who does finally come back in 2020, we'll be looking at numbers a lot closer to S10 than S9, and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually worse.

Ryan and Yaz's perspectives aren't drawn out enough in the scripts to make it work. It's there, but not enough. This is partially a side-effect of the ensemble thing–the members don't seem to be varied enough. That's partially due to Ryan and Yaz having similar backgrounds, I think.

"Ooh look you're on telly Doctor, you and your little band. Which, by the way, is ticking every demographic box, so congratulations on that" - The Master, S3E13

I feel like almost every decision that has been made this season, from casting, to writing, settings and character traits has been made to tick a box.

The Doctor had to be a woman this time. The character of Yaz was written in because they wanted an Indian actor, she gets no character development at all and Mandip Gill's acting is cardboard. Ryan is the conduit for any "How do you do, fellow kids?" moments which are about as subtle as a hand grenade. Also he has dyspraxia but its only mentioned once after the first episode and its never an issue. The only character who is universally adored is Graham, and he is also the only one not hired to tick a box on the BBC's diversity quota. Here's how I imagine some of the episodes were written:

Rosa'Right, its black history month, so lets do an episode where the Doctor meets Rosa Parks.Okay, so what's it going to be about?Who cares, we just need to fill 50 minutes with an episode to attract black people in america - throw in a time travelling space nazi and lets have the episode culminate with him changing a bus timetable.'

Demons of the Punjab'We need to have one of the episodes set in India, lets do it about the partition. That's great, but we'll have to include some aliens.Okay, but they're only there to watch. The real villain is prejudice'

Arachnids'For the Halloween episode, lets do it about giant spiders.Ooh, spooky, okay! And its the US midterms so lets throw in a Trump-analogue for good measure. So what's the story going to be? Well Team Tardis track down the source of the spiders to a hotel 'Trump' owns, where's he's also been dumping pollution, and that's what's caused the spiders to grow so big. The Doctor traps all the spiders in a room using grime music and then 'Trump' shoots the biggest spider. That sounds great, then what?''What do you mean? That's the entire story'

Witchfinders'Now that the Doctor is a woman we can have her go back to the height of witch hysteria. But about the plotWho cares about the plot? Throw in King James and lets write him as really camp'

'It takes you away''Let's do an episode set in Norway, and feature a blind girl' 'Great, I've got an idea for a mirror universe which is sentient and wants to make friends with our universe and-' 'How will we represent the sentient universe?' 'Well, I was thinking we could get some CGI involved and-' 'How about a talking frog' 'Well, okay, but can the blind girl at least lead Team Tardis to safety in the pitch black cave?' 'Don't be ridiculous'

Kerblam'We have to do an episode about how Amazon should treat its staff betterCan we get an actual sci fi writer in for a change?Just this one time'

I probably wouldn't have minded if the episodes had been any good…

ITYA had a significant Graham moment, and I guess Ryan with his vague "bad with kids" arc, but who was Witchfinders and Kerblam! about?

I think the problem is that even when the characters are given something to do, they're just not very interesting or fun to watch so it's very forgettable.

>>176381

It's also important to note that there were several episodes in which Rory was not involved, which gave Amy room to breathe as a character. She was the primary companion. Same with S1. Rose was the primary companion, others like Mickey, Jack, and Adam only joined for a few episodes here and there. Yaz/Ryan/Graham all being introduced at once, and all being constant full-time companions during the shortest season yet, didn't leave much room for characterisation.

Anyway, the fun of large TARDIS groups is seeing them all come from different times and places and meeting each other.

Quite possible. Moffat was probably better at making things seem cooler.
