Discussion thread for Doctor Who: Legacy, the official Companion Kidnapping Simulator by Tiny Rebel Games.
Because there are at least two of us.
I'll be posting news updates, and promo codes for tons of free stuff, as that develops, because I follow that way too closely and it needs to go somewhere. Discussion of all aspects of the game is encouraged; team building, collection, strategy, beating an expert level with nobody in your party but Bessie and the Whomobile, et cetera.
Discussion of other Doctor Who related video games also welcome, probably? There isn't a phenomenal a track record.
Available on iOS, Google Play, Amazon, and Facebook/browser.

The level for Time Heist is out, with Saibra as a 100% drop.
She's blue, and her special ability is Hologram Shell, which increases the damage of a random gem colour.
No Psi, unfortunately. Maybe later - they're apparently not opposed to that, as they've confirmed a Fan Area level in the works that drops Robin Hood. (The Robots in Sherwood level having wasted its opportunity for this by dropping Clara's medieval dress instead.)
The fight itself is relatively simple and only includes The Teller, with no extra waves. He's a yellow enemy who paralyzes, locks, and poisons. Pic related.

>>1993Understandable. Having a telephone for a games console is kind of silly to begin with, not to mention it's a minefield of demon-devs and microtransactions.
I consider this one a bit special, though. Mainly because Tiny Rebel are two devout Doctor Who fans, licensed by the BBC to run around collecting character rights to put everyone from Ace to the Brigadier into a love letter to fans everywhere. The smartphone aspect is quite secondary, even the combat scheme could be considered an afterthought. Mainly they wanted to create a game where you can be your favourite Doctor traveling with your favourite Companions. I think that really shines through.
I could just have an obsession with collecting and playing with all my little virtual Doctor Who characters… either way, it's working.

I quite like the game, it's a great time waster if you have to wait on something. So, which doctor is everyone using? I'm using 11.

>>1992 gif. I basically built the whole thing around the basis that I needed to use Eight, because he's my favourite Doctor. The others fell into place mostly due to gameplay.
Once I nail down my strategies enough that I can tackle the Expert level that unlocks him, I'd really like to try playing with the Expert (black and white) version of Nine.
If you want to try another blue Doctor like Eleven, and don't already have him, you could see if this code for One still works.

>>2020Doctors are guaranteed drops upon the completion of certain levels - usually important ones. For example, the final two levels of the first "Season" of the game drop Seven and Eight.
As with all characters, the placement of some is more obscure and difficult than the placement of others.
You start with one Doctor and one Companion - Eleven and Madame Vastra. Because they're having a time travel romp together for some reason, seemingly around the time of the beginning of Season 7. You travel around within your own personal timeline from there.
Season 8 is a whole separate campaign accessed in the tab for special levels. It's different from all the other content in that instead of being a unique plot, it moves forward trough the current show at a rate of one level per episode, always coming out the day after the episode does. It is released in three difficulty modes, the easiest being balanced for level 20 teams.
I mention this because you can unlock Twelve by playing the Deep Breath episode.

Has K9 Mk. II been nerfed? He used to stun people for 2 turns at L20 and now he stuns for just 1.

>>2035I'm not sure, I checked on the wiki and nobody took down any notes on his earlier stages. My K9 is max level and it's still just 2 turns, with a 9 turn cooldown. If they did rebalance it, I suppose it's feasible that you now have lower cooldown than before instead? I have any idea, really.

I really enjoy video games mostly console and PC stuff and I love Doctor Who but I don't usually play mobile games so I have to ask is this game worth downloading?
No.2111
>>2106Depends what you're into, I guess.
This is basically a cross between Bejeweled and Pokemon.
You catch companions, level them up, decide which stats to raise, build your team of six with abilities you think will work well, and match gems to activate those abilities and attack your foes.
So if you
Gotta Catch Em All enjoy collecting, strategy battles, or gem puzzles, go for it. Especially at higher levels where you're facing enemies who can lay down half a dozen conditions and potentially One Shot you, you'll enjoy the experience. It's probably the best of its kind.
If you're more into other genres of games like shooters, dungeon crawlers, etc, there's no need to go against your grain.

>>2065Seems he must have been nerfed, then, my mate's maxed-out K9 used to stun for 3 turns.

>Having a team of stun all characters was making some content pretty trivial where that wasn't intended. Our end game was never intended to be a team of stun all characters and also that diminished the value of other allies and play styles. No.2132
>>2125Well that's lame, I never even got to be a copouting stunfag properly before that.
Not that stuns are dead, there's still Silence Agent Amy Pond and Blue Silent Priest… and a bunch of other guys. I need to level them. Only ever used K9 before.
No.2134
>>1991Why no Fourth Doctor? Is it because Tom refuses to let them use his likeness or something?
No.2137
>>2134Tom was keen, it was the BBC who took ages to finally let Tiny Rebel use their star Doctor's likeness.
They do have it now, they've even done the art iirc. They're just waiting for an appropriately epic content addition for Tom Baker to be the reward for completing.
They added an entire separate chapter in the Special tab to introduce Peter Davison (Greyhound One). And Capaldi was the reward for the pilot level of Season 8. So my bet is either that they add him as a Season completion drop for 8, or in his own new content. Probably the latter.
No.2138
>>2137From what I heard the artwork is a 'work in progress'.
We're probably not going to get him until all the Season 8 content is over, at least.
No.2153
I'm really liking this game so far, unfortunately Rory is really weak in the game. He does give a lot of healing points though, and his Rank 2 special is really good when I get in sticky situations. But his attack is so damn low, and since its early in the game for me, a lot of enemies are weak to Green, and my Rory is green, so I've put almost all his points in attack.
No.2155
>>2153The points you personally add into a stat are just a little extra boost, healers will still naturally gain more heal than anything else upon leveling up, etc. so they'll still be viable in their usual role.
So you don't have to worry about ruining a character or anything.
Green is unfortunately probably the most ignored colour. They don't add enough new greens, and those that exist are usually quite weak.
Ace and the Brigadier are both strong greens, last time I checked. They're both in the Greyhound One campaign, though, which is balanced for a level 30 team.
Alternatively, you could switch Rory out for Artie Maitland (you know, that annoying little boy in Nightmare in Silver), whose ability turns all greens into pinks. This'll compensate for the relative suckiness of greens by making all green gems become free healing, and you can potentially coast through levels rejuvenating every scratch. And he's a drop in the first season you do, so there's no bother to obtain him.
Cons: You will cause pretty much no green damage at all. Also he's still heal-centric like Rory, so there's not much change.
UNIT Soldier (that's his name, he's so generic) is attack-based and average. You could use him?
Pic related, it's someone using an all-green team and it contains almost every good green in the game.

Saibra is really useful if you've got a team based around converting the entire screen to a single colour. Right now I'm using the Second Doctor's L1 ability, the Yellow Adipose and the Brigadier (in that order) to turn the whole screen green, and then Saibra to boost it by 17%.

The Caretaker level unlocked Twelve's Caretaker outfit.
Kill The Moon unlocked Courteney Woods, whose ability, "99%", cures all poison. She's yet another yellow, clearly S8 designers want people to use yellow teams more often.

This just in, it seems they'll end up being a day late on the release of the Mummy on the Orient Express level, bringing the release date to Monday.
It will drop a costume for Twelve of what he will wear in said episode.
However, on the Sunday it's meant to come out, we'll instead get a new Expert mode level, and The Teller will be added to the store as a buyable companion. No word on the cost but standalone companions are usually 5 Time Crystals. Save up. If you'll be wanting him, that is.
As with "Listen", both "Flatline" and "In the Forest of the Night" have been deemed not appropriate for gameification. (They haven't mentioned whether it's because of a lack of proper villains like with Listen, or something else entirely.)
Thus, they will not be having levels.
In their stead - wait for it, this is great - "the following two weekends we will be releasing new allies, costumes, and The Fourth Doctor".
Are you ready for Four, /dwl/?

I have just started playing the game. When the fuck do I unlock another Doctor? I've been playing for fucking days and haven't finished series 7 yet.
