Hey anon

Imagine that I'm a fucking idiot that never watched Dr.Who should i watch the whole damn thing from the beginning or can I jump in later on? Old shitty special fx and stuff really isn't my jam.

A good time to start is the new Series from 2005, or the beginning of any new regeneration.

A good chunk of the earliest episodes have been lost to the ages, and it's not necessary for the enjoyment of the show, but some of the old stuff is great.

ha!

anyway, welcome aboard.

If you can't tolerate old shitty special effects, the classic series probably isn't the place for you. It has some periods where it's great, like pic related, but if that's that big of a turn off for you, then you should avoid it even though I think it's a mistake.

If you want to catch up to the new stuff quickly, start with Series 5, first episode "The Eleventh Hour".

If you want to do the whole new series (be aware the special effects for the first two series are sometimes goofy except in the important episodes), then start with S1, "Rose" (not really a good episode imo but necessary)

Many thanks, will tentatively start with the classic series and see how I like it.

just keep in mind it's slower paced if you go with the classic series

A lot of people here really like the 4th Doctor so that might be a good place to start.
