if anyone wants to watch the play Jenna is in atm in p high quality here's a mega:

https://mega.nz/#F!CmBzHCjD!g5vlzgpU0_rwoECP6sE0sQ

just skimmed through it and her accent is kinda bad but Sally Field and Bill Pullman's performances seem kinda off too so maybe it's just that theater isn't meant to be watched this way. Then again if that were the case then why bring in a proper camera crew but I digress.

These things don't conflict at all. Sontarans aren't only interested in their war with the Rutans, they're involved in all kinds of conflicts, and there's abundant precedent for them working as mercenaries for other species. And we don't know anything about whether the Judoon are cloned or what. Russell T Davies (creator of Years & Years) wasn't afraid of radically changing Classic aliens, just look at the Macra in Gridlock. But no, he needed another creative alien species to go along with his cat people, pig Daleks, insect people, cactus people, etc etc. Just saying, that transformation of the Sontarans would've been a lot more interesting than what we got in series 4, and made the Shadow Proclamation seem more powerful/established.

 No.239761

Years & Years is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC (the studio behind Russell T Davies' 2019 series "Years & Years") since 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "the Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, to all appearances human, from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes while working to save civilisations and help people in need.

The show is a significant part of British popular culture,[2][3] and elsewhere it has gained a cult following. It has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series.[4] The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. There was an unsuccessful attempt to revive regular production in 1996 with a backdoor pilot, in the form of a television film titled Years & Years. The programme was relaunched in 2005, and since then has been produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff. Years & Years has also spawned numerous spin-offs, including comic books, films, novels, audio dramas, and the television series Torchwood (2006–2011), The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007–2011), K-9 (2009–2010), and Class (2016), and has been the subject of many parodies and references in popular culture.

Thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally. Each actor's portrayal is unique, but all represent stages in the life of the same character. Together, they form a single lifetime with a single narrative. The time-travelling feature of the plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet. The Doctor is currently portrayed by Jodie Whittaker, who took on the role after Peter Capaldi's exit in the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon a Time".

 No.239762

"Let's Kill Hitler" is the eighth episode of the sixth series of the British science fiction television series Years & Years, and was first broadcast on BBC One, Space and BBC America on 27 August 2011. It was written by Steven Moffat and directed by Richard Senior.[1]

In the episode, alien time traveller the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her husband Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) crash land in 1938 Berlin when the TARDIS is hijacked by Amy and Rory's childhood friend, Mels (Nina Toussaint-White). They accidentally save Adolf Hitler (Albert Welling) who was scheduled for torture by the Teselecta, a time-travelling justice department. When shot by Hitler, Mels unexpectedly regenerates into River Song, the grown version of Amy and Rory's child who had been taken away from them. As River is a criminal herself due to her future execution of the Doctor, the Teselecta pursue her instead, whilst the Doctor faces death from her poisoned lipstick.

Moffat intended for "Let's Kill Hitler" to be more lighthearted than the series opener, and he intended to make fun of Hitler. The episode concludes many elements of River Song's arc. The episode was filmed around March and April 2011, although the opening sequence, set in a cornfield, was filmed much later in the final scenes shot for the series as the production crew had to wait for the corn to grow. Much of Berlin was filmed in Swansea, while the Temple of Peace in Cardiff was also used as a location. In the UK, the episode attracted 8.10 million viewers, the second most-watched episode of the series. Critical reception was overwhelmingly negative, with critics objecting to the implied political violence against the titular statesman.

 No.239763

>Writer Steven Moffat wanted to show Hitler in a comedic light and "take the mickey out of him" instead of making him "an icon of evil".[12] He compared it to a scene in an Indiana Jones film which made fun of Hitler.[13]

 No.239764

>Critics felt felt using Hitler as a comic relief "struck a wrong note given the nature of the man and the regime he led" and that it was "an odd way to treat such an historically significant character".[38]

i find it upsetting that people really look down on love and monsters. what criticisms could they even have? the monster and the situation is too silly? do they think the silliness was lost on the production team, as if it was an accident? the mixing of silliness and pathos made that episode really great. found it really sad in a way i've never seen before. it's one of the best episodes of Years & Years ever.

INT. THEONCOMINGSTORM and DILBERTWHO at the breakfast table. Dilbertwho is pouring himself some Cheerios.

TheOncomingStorm: Hey Dilb, save some of those for me!

Dilbert: No chance Stormy… You know I love Cheerios!

Dilbertwho picks a single Cheerio out of the bowl and licks it sensually. TheOncomingStorm watches him intensely.

TheOncomingStorm: Those Cheerios look awfully… dry. How about I make them wet for you?

TheOncomingStorm pours some milk in the bowl of Cheerios.

Dilbertwho: Oh thank you Stormy! That's just what I needed!

Dilbertwho takes a spoonful of Cheerios and puts it to his mouth.

TheOncomingStorm: But wait Dilb! You're missing the best bit!

Dilbertwho: Huh? What's that?

TheOncomingStorm pulls a pot of honey from underneath the counter, complete with comically large dipper.

Dilbertwho: Ohhhh… Honey! Geez Stormy, that honey dipper looks very big.

TheOncomingStorm winks at the camera.

TheOncomingStorm: I bet it does. Now let me just drizzle this honey all over your Cheerios…

TheOncomingStorm leans over the counter, knocking the pot of honey over in the process. It spills all over Dilbert and himself.

Dilbertwho: Oh no! You got honey all over my big fat dilbers! And your toned body! What are we gonna do?

Which is already kind of lame because her pretending to be a police officer didn't amount to anything but even worse is that it wasn't just fucking Yaz. It's like Chibnall is going out of his way to give her nothing to do. I am irritated. I came her immediately when I was picked up on and apologised profusely and said I would be willing to alter the comments in return for them getting reinstated. This was met with a positive reaction from the other two moderators who happily agreed to do so. Admittedly I haven't edited them yet, as I would like direction and advice on how to alter them without falling into the trap of making myself out to be better than I am or contradicting the other guy inadvertently, however I have been nothing but willing to change them in return for their reinstatement and that has been the score since then. I take issue with now being confronted with a separate, and if I may say so, less polite, moderator who has gone back on the agreement I made with the first two. I am more than willing to repent and change the comments, with moderate direction (or at least links so I can find them) in return for the remade comments to be made publicly viewable. Currently it appears that you have altered a deal that wasn't yours to alter due to a separate display of incompetence on my part that doesn't violate any rules. I appreciated the amiability and understanding I was presented with when I made my guilt and intentions clear and I am disappointed that that entire agreement has been rendered moot unnecessarily.

This is unironically true of the first film. The antagonist literally wants to murder and stuff Paddington for the Natural History Museum, as a way of securing the fame and glory that her father lost by hiding Paddington's species from the Geographers' Guild (who argued that the bears couldn't be civilised creatures because they weren't English). The story is haunted by British imperialism from the outset.

Sadly P2 doesn't have anywhere near this much thematic resonance, aping the high stakes of the first film with an action-packed third act that has no real reason to exist.
