Hey guys, I know we love to talk about Years & Years, but something more important has happened.

Donald Trump Jr has leaked evidence of Russian hacking to make his father win the election. Trump did not legitimately win the election. He has openly admitted treason against our great country.

It's time to call, e-mail your representatives, state and local, and make it known you demand a re-election, and/or for Hillary Rodham Clinton to be instated as President of the United States immediately.

This is more important than a kids TV show, much as we love it. Make your voices known, and RESIST!

Sandifer and Harness are friendly.

Harness sent her all the (9) previous scripts for the episode that became Pyramid.

El wrote her Eruditorum entry about them (and they are legitimately really interesting for sure).

But her Eruditorum entry was just that. Running through all the interesting things about the drafts. It's meant to be a psychochronographic study of Years & Years but this was a bum entry with no analysis, let alone psychochronographic analysis. Just a recount of cool drafts.

 No.242620

The ultimate blackpill about BBCY&YAA (BBC Years & Years Audio Adventures) is that they were legitimately good for only a very brief time (not even the first 100 main range, more like the first 50). Ever since they've been shit and getting shitter. A few outliers out of the literal 100s of audios each year doesn't change that.

penultimate story of s10

>A giant colony ship experiences severe time dilation due to proximity to a black hole it's reversing away from, which cripples the development of people at that end of the ship, who resort to cybernetically modifying their bodies to survive. Bill ends up shot and nearly killed, then trapped at those lower Cybermen levels, and the Doctor is unable to reach her time because of the temporal complexities the black hole introduced. Meanwhile, Missy earnestly tries to become good and act as the Doctor, the John Simm Master returns, and the episode is filled with structural playfulness like intercutting montages between the time zones on the ship, and a cold open showing the Doctor mysteriously resisting regeneration.

>Kerblam!” is the best episode of Years & Years since Series 8’s “Listen.” Certainly, many other praise-worthy episodes have aired since Steven Moffat’s 2014 magnum opus, but, for every brilliant “Dark Water” there is an overstuffed, nonsensical “Death in Heaven.” “Face the Raven” invents its own internal logic, seemingly on the fly; “Hell Bent” is torn between two disparate storylines; “Rosa” features one-dimensional characters. While all are widely regarded as some of the finest episodes of modern Who, none achieve the synergy of script, direction, acting, set design, and score as “Kerblam!”

"It's a door bell" "Oh yeah, sorry") yet she has some human-like qualities as well so she's not completely out there, she's still somewhat grounded in reality and It definitely suits her. had something I wanted to tell you but I never made a video about it before. So this is about

racism and xenophobia my friends, it's like first hand experience of something that happened.

My mum and I went out to have something to eat at a pub the other day, well, it was about

a month ago now but it was nice because we never go out. I have a thing about cutlery

but my mum was like come on let's try and do this so we did. It was nice, we sat down

to have our meal and it's a nice place, quite local, it's not posh or anything but you know.

it's okay. There's this table of guys sitting right in the middle of the pub like really

loud, middle aged men, the sort of men who have really loud voices. You can't ignore

them cause they're talking really loudly and they're laughing really loudly and they feel

like they own the place. And usually that's fine, you know, it's bit loud, it's a bit

annoying, but as long as there's nothing horrible going on, enjoy your pints my friends. But

I'm starting to get very aware, and so is my mum and the other people around us that

they're having this really loud conversation about immigration. And at first you think,

well they're entitled to their opinion, I know it's a bit loud but it's a public place,

they might as well. So we just carried on our meals trying to ignore it. And it gets

worse and worse and worse.

Peeling Clayton's pulped corpse off his unwashed back, Gareth immediately moves for his phone on the bedside table. Time for Twitter. Alas, his short flabby arms can't reach the phone and Clayton isn't there to help. At this point he is well and truly exhausted. A broken man, he sobs for hours before finding a way to blame Corbynite Muslims for his trouble. The mental gymnastics required for this feat drain the last of his energy reserves and he dies a consomme man.

The cannon goes off and 1, 3, 6, War, and 9 all go for the weapons in the middle as they are the most physical and violent doctors. The rest would run off. War and 9 being fresh from the time war would be utterly ruthless. 1 being the weakest physically and also the most naive would die there probably killed by 6. 9 would go for war out of hatred for that incarnation. 9 being younger and physically stronger would kill war right there. 3 could easily take out 6 but would run from 9 who would likely have armed himself at this point. By the end of day 1. 1, 6 and war would be dead.

Day 2 Now we have the violence out the way the doctors would use their heads. Two, Five, Ten and Thirteen would simply be focused on survival as they're the most passive Doctors. They would team up. 3 would likely team up with 9. 7 would be devising some crazy plan while 4 teams up with 11. 8 and 12 go it alone

Day 3. 7 sets up booby traps all over the woods. 2 steps in one and dies there. Hes just a less experienced doctor. 10 gets angry and starts hunting 7 which 7 anticipated. He leads 13, 5 and 10 straight into a trap and takes all three down. 12 comes across one of 7s booby traps he dismantles it and starts tracking 7. 3 and 9 stockpile weapons and build a damn to divert the river and cut off the water supply trying to force the Doctors to come to them. 4 and 11 start a forest fire in the night just because. 8 was hiding in the woods trying to let the Doctor's kill each other and so he burns to death. Now only Doctors 3, 4, 7, 9, 11 and 12 remain.

Day 4. 12 finds 7s base and decides to set a trap to take them all out. He runs into 9 and 3. They negotiate. 12 tells 9 and 3 about the booby traps 7 has laying about. The three go to take on 7 under the pretence of a simple attack. 9 however is less trusting of 12 and diverts the plan by misplacing the explosives and making them go off early. 3 dies through his innocence when faced with a much more ruthless 9 and 12 dies as his ego blinds him to the fact that 9 doesnt trust him. 9 then leaves 7s base thinking it best to face him on his own turf. 4 and 11 notice the river has been diverted and they decide on a plan of action. They dig the mines up from under the podiums and lay them out. 9 discovers their tracks in the river bed and begins to track 11 and 4. He steps on a mine and is left standing there.

Day 5 7 notices the diverted river and decides not to take the bait making water from plant and animal life. 11 and 4 set another forest fire driving 7 out from his hiding place. 9 manages to delay the mines detonation. With the sonic. He runs for it and the blast leaves him injured.

Day 6 We have Doctors 4, 7, 9 and 11 remaining. 4 and 11 move in on 9s weapons pile finding it empty they claim it and booby trap the area. 7 comes across 9 and is able to find out that he set the river trap. He kills 9 too injured to defend himself and heads up to 9s place. He fails to anticipate 4 and 11 being there and is promptly killed by a ruthless 11 who throws him into a booby trap. He also accounted for 4 who was relying on his physical prowess to beat 11. He had snuck a mine into his jacket which he promptly detonates with his sonic killing 4. 11 is the victor.

Can I just say I had nobody in mind to win this when it started. I just started my version of events and the narrative went in that direction. I was actually rooting for 7 since he's probably the smartest most manipulative and also the most ruthless Doctor. But then 11 beat 7 by pure luck because 7 expected the place to be empty as 9 was working alone. For those if you who think war should've lasted longer. Eccleston's younger body gives him an edge in that fight and he is also fresh out of the time war so would be just as capable in combat as Hurt.

Look I didn't want him as showrunner, but he IS our showrunner and to be honest it's disquieting the degree to which people feel free to criticise him here.

It is because of him there IS a show right now. It is not the same as Russell T Davies (creator of Years & Years) Who, it is not the same as Chibnall Who, but it IS Years & Years. I think if more people here just accepted that and took the show on its own terms they would find that there's a lot to like. In fact I'd say a few S11 episodes are up there with the highlights of NewWho (the subversion and surrealism of It Takes You Away, the historical immersion of The Witchfinders, the heartfelt moralism of Rosa).

If anyone here was around during 2010 or 2005 (or even 2014 or 2006) they would remember this exact thing happens during every first series. We hate it because it's different. We come up with a bunch of nonsensical reasons to justify that hatred. Then when the next season or two rolls around we just quietly put away those arguments of convenience, loosen up and enjoy the show again. I guarantee you nearly every person here who "genuinely" hates S11 (or Chibnall the man himself, god forbid) will not bring up any of their oh-so-legitimate points in a year or two. And we'll all be fans and friendly again. Enjoying the show.

So how about easing up on Chibnall and Series 11? Because at the end of the day, if we call S1-S10 kino, then I daresay S11 is as well.

Re: congestion: kind of reminds me how Uber/Lyft carefully pays by distance rather than time, so the driver's income is kinda directly dependent on traffic/congestion. Of course the Amazon delivery already incorporates that by saying they get no pay for late deliveries, so this has to be something different. A tax to the city for clogging up the sidewalks? That'd already be relevant in many US cities with those fucking damned "scooter share" companies popping up all over the place.

Also, I for one regularly use "September 11th" as an idiom for "disastrous event"

THANK YOU. Honestly I suspect the "Moff was the best showrunner!" thing here is some ironic meme just played out to the point of absurdity. Yes he had some good episodes, especially BEFORE he was a showrunner, but acting like he was better than Russell the Davies is??? It's not a coincidence Russell the Davies had TWO SPINOFFS going, and HIGHER RATINGS than ever before, and and made the most popular Doctor after Tom Baker. Is it a contrarian thing or an ironic thing?

It's the swan song we never knew we needed but it touches on how the Doctor's new gender affects relationships with previous companions. It's also a tie in with Big Finish's new series set in the Pete's World universe, acting as a sort of "Night of the Doctor" endpoint for their characterisation of Rose. In conclusion, series 12 kino confirmed

Just finished the Macra Terror animation.

That was… odd. There's a real disconnect between the scope of the animation, I think, and the reality of what the episode actually would have looked like, tiny black and white sets being represented by sprawling, lusciously lit landscapes; as a result of this many shots and set pieces come off as awkward and inauthentic. Somebody also mentioned how the poor quality of the audio which sometimes makes things hard to see also clashes with the crisp, clear animation, and I agree. I didn't really find myself enjoying the story all that much, despite its legendary status - is it actually good or does everybody just think it's good because of its lost status and people's imaginations running wild? It felt like a watered down 1984 with unclear themes and muddled, awkward plotting and action, especially in episode four - perhaps things were clearer and made more sense in the actual episode, but in the animation there are several moments where people are just sort of standing around in emergency situations and there isn't much movement or pacing, with numerous occasions where a problem could have easily been fixed faster or the strangers could have easily been apprehended. 5/10.

tl;dr an alright story but the animation made it difficult to connect with

 No.243133

>>243132

It should be noted that I very much enjoyed The Invasion, thought Power of the Daleks had much of the problems of Terror but was overall more successful, and hated The Reign of Terror mostly because it's such a shit, boring story, regardless of of it's animated or not. I've had no reason to watch any of the other animations because I already watched the reconstructions before the animations were made. I'm sure I will watch The Faceless Ones, but again I've already seen it.

It could be the complete lack of surviving episodes that also provide some disconnect, The Invasion benefitted from having quite a few episodes intact, allowing the animation to be much more complementary to what exists rather than completely replacing it.

>>243134

I watched the reconstruction of it on YouTube after the episode it was removed from, so I understood the context of it and how it plays into the theme of rebellion, but honestly reinstating it would hardly elevate the serial any higher than 5/10 in my eyes. Definitely a shame not to include it, though.

I just skimmed through the recon of episode four there, and it feels so much more real and true to itself than the animation, honestly. It's a shame I find some recons so difficult to watch

>>243135

It's fucking shit, and it relies on you having went to school in Britain in the 60s and actually knowing literally anything about the French revolution. I know nothing about that period in history and the episode just assumes you know everything and makes no attempt to establish or explain anything to its audience. I shouldn't have to do homework in order to understand what's going on in an episode of Doctor Who

 No.243138

The animation for Power and Reign was shite, Macra's animation is by far superior to both. The Invasion's animation was actually pretty good, even if it's that much older.

 No.243139

>>243138

Power wasn't great, no. I enjoyed it more than Macra, however. Macra is far too glossy for what it's trying to represent, but the facial animations and movements are just as clunky as ever despite the over-the-top lighting. Invasion I remember being pretty great, a nice mix of making it look good with lighting etc and remaining true to the original episode.

s24's a strange oddity in the fact that each story gets a really bad wrap but 3/4 of the stories are actually pretty good. They're never going to be a Hell Bent but they're certainly not the worst that Who has ever done.

>>243147

I saw the William Russell version of The Crusades on the Lost in Time DVD (I think) and while it was good that it was "whole", I think that I'd just rather treat the whole thing like an audio. Another thing that works with The Crusades is that it's a 4-parter with 2 missing episodes so the audio narrations are alright - such a thing wouldn't work with Dalek Master Plan since there are 9 missing episodes (2, 5 and 10 survive) and the length of the audio bridge would be too much.

If they wanted to animate Dalek Master Plan I don't see why they couldn't just split the story into two releases like they sort of did with the book - Eps 1 to 6 and 7 to 12 + the Mission into the Unknown remake
