When a Time Lord is shot during their regeneration process, does it matter where they're shot, or will their process be disrupted resulting in their ultimate death either way?

There's no rules. 12 got shot and blew up after his regeneration started and was fine.

But he wasn't in the actual process of regenerating, he was holding it back. He intended to die in that explosion. On Lake Silencio, the Doctor actually tried to regenerate (albeit knowing he was going to get shot again).

Before it was explicitly shown that 8 A) knew about the Time War, B) was in the know about how badly the war was going and C) regenerated into John Hurt / War Doctor, how did you think the 8th Doctor had regenerated?

I'd always been torn between thinking that 8 had either regenerated really early into the Time War or had regenerated right at the end of the War. I wouldn't have been mad if they'd portrayed him dying on the very first day ala one of the EDA's

the fastest way to get bullied as a trip is to mention tripping in any way whatsoever

t. trip who said something about being a trip in their first post as a trip and got railed for it

there's no other reason as to how his experiment could have brought him to this conclusion.

When he posts with his trip, he derails discussions because people rightfully will not stand idly by while he completely misses the point of the community. When he posted anonymously and didn't draw attention to himself, he fit in.

How the fuck can anyone in their right, non-narcissistic mind come to the conclusion that resuming tripping is the right course of action after that?

>because people rightfully will not stand idly by while he completely misses the point of the community

>When he posted anonymously and didn't draw attention to himself, he fit in.

But if he can post anonymously and fit into the community, then the problem isn't that he doesn't get the community. The problem is people reacting to his trip.

What's y'all favorite Second Doctor story, and why?

While tripping, hunter has been prone to talk about himself in a way that can't be done when you post anonymously. The content of his posts was different depending on whether he had an identity attached to refer to or not. It's not just psychological like you're asserting.

If he thinks having a name is important, he should stick to the discord.

Does /who/ think that the general public will re-evaluate the Capaldi era in time?

Favorite waifu of the Classic era?

>trying this hard to change the topic

it's genuinely embarrassing, immigrant. time to stop.

The Second Doctor is a great entry point to the Classic Series. I just wish more episodes were found, but it seems like we never will find any more than we've already discovered. His serials created an environment that was beautifully-crafted, intriguing, comical and just-plain Doctor Who. He was more of a plot-driven, rather than character-driven Doctor, with his stories focusing on the wacky side of life in the cosmos rather than the dark and brooding Twelfth Doctor era. Now, the Twelfth Doctor is without a doubt THE New Series Doctor, but the Second Doctor contrasts him so perfectly that it shows the broad spectrum of life as an ever-changing, ever-growing, ever-diverse character. The Krotons, The Mind Robber, and my favorite, The War Games, all showed how good, wholesome and downright amazing the Second Doctor was.

I honestly do want to discuss how the public will evaluate the Capaldi era later on, though. I wonder if it'll be seen as just the "last few crazy years" before the ascendant Chibnall era.

why did you think having a name attached to this post was necessary?

>the Twelfth Doctor is without a doubt THE New Series Doctor

> the Second Doctor contrasts him so perfectly that it shows the broad spectrum of life as an ever-changing, ever-growing, ever-diverse character

I agree that the Second Doctor and the Twelfth Doctor had a contrast, as 12 was more aggressive than Two. But I think that hey were both rather alien. Ten's humanness is a better contrast with Two, I think.

Chibnall, with the exception of Day One, always has lovely stories to tell. Even Cyberwoman had some good points (note: some). The Power of Three and Countrycide are my favorites. However, I don't think my position on 12 being the best NuWho Doctor will change with Jodie, and this is a very hard thing for me to say. I just loved Capaldi so much as the Doctor, it almost brings me to tears to know that he's gone. I will be faithful and understanding to what Chibnall brings to this wonderful show.

why did you think having a name attached to this post was necessary?

I think that Series 11 will be darker in tone than people are expecting. Nevertheless, we'll get lots of good character drama.

It took me time to warm up to Twelve, as I came in with Eleven. I don't think his personality fully clicked with me until "Do you think one betrayal make me abandon you?" scene in Dark Water. It's weird having seen one whole era come and go, especially as Twelve changed so much throughout.

He'll be seen as the new McCoy. An excellent Doctor that combined great acting with top notch writing and who was unfairly maligned by poor publicity.

Would you be willing to bet that the Fourth Doctor's jelly babies are concocted using food-coloring and weed put into a stolen jelly baby mold he got from Ikea?

why did you think having a pseudonym attached to this post was necessary?

Blowing up the Time Lords/Daleks.

thoughts on pseudonym of the doctor?

>alien bodies but canon

It's just weird that Twelve's era didn't work at all for some people. I think it was the bad aftertaste of Series 7b, combined with the aggressively changed character dynamics (12 as ornery not-sugarcoating Doctor + Clara as morally ambiguous adventure junkie), that doomed both Series 8 and 9. (Series 9 was also affected by "wackier 12", especially the tank scene in TMA. The tank scene was intentionally out-of-character for Twelve, but still left the wrong mark on some people.)

Series 10 was better, but by then the "Writing is bad" reputation already took hold.

>An excellent Doctor that combined great acting with top notch writing

What makes the writing in Series 8-10 good is harder to describe, and partially an aesthetic taste. Everyone agrees that the "Seven + Ace" team is revolutionary, but a lot of people hate Clara and see her as everything wrong with the Capaldi era, which is unfortunate, because a lot of Series 8 focuses on Clara and relies on the audience empathizing with her. And Series 9's final episode is a culmination of an arc for Clara, that started in Series 8, which some people never realized was an arc that was happening (and for others, it was obvious.). Plus Series 9 has eps like Sleep No More, which if you see it as "sleep dust monsters LMAO", is a crap ep with a weird twist, but if you see it as "a meta ep about how the person in control of the camera controls the perspective, in which the villain is intentionally trying to cram reality into the form of a simple narrative, and the Doctor not only never finds out what's happenning, but he also basically gets the whole plot wrong while explaining it, thus showing his fallibility", then SNM becomes a genius episode. But SNM requires a close watching or rewatching to see that, and SNM looks like a boring space ep. Plus, it's a Mark Gattis ep, and no one expects a Mark Gattis ep to need a rewatch.

The explanation above isn't to exonerate Sleep No More, nor am I saying that all Series 9 eps were genius (the Toby Whithouse 2-parter is basically what it says it is). But Series 8 and 9 were rather sophisticated, in a way that required deep watching, and so it'll be harder for it to get a re-evaluation. Especially since those eps were uneven at times.

Series 10 is the season that may be easiest for audiences to appreciate, although I somewhat think it's the least complex? It needed a few more Bill-centric eps. I feel that we barely got to know her.

I think what I'm trying to say, is that for Seven, people stopped watching because of the quality of the Sixth Doctor run, and early Seven. By the time Seven + Ace started, some people knew it was getting better, but it was too late (also Grade hated Who.)

But, people were still watching Series 8 + 9, and they didn't like it while they were watching it. This isn't people missing under-appreciated gems–this is people watching, and not liking or understanding what they saw.

I think it's still a vocal minority, and most people like 12's era, especially Series 10. But I wonder if Capaldi's era will be seen as a mediocre aberration, rather than a crowning jewel.

The doctor falls and WEAT would be considered crowning jewels in my eyes, the rest is rather mediocre in all honesty

Cor, blimey! Me cock fell off

I think Listen and Extremis are good rad-style eps, and Mummy on the Orient and Oxygen (plus arguably Eaters of Light) are good traditional eps.

sorry should have specified, i meant series 10, i love s8/9

>But Series 8 and 9 were rather sophisticated, in a way that required deep watching, and so it'll be harder for it to get a re-evaluation.

You're just angling for a rick and morty edit aren't you

At 62 pages in two parts, my shit wank is finally finished.

oh no, I have been wordfiltered

cloi has a lot of fun with wordfilters

Thin Ice is underappreciated for how it's 12/Bill scenes function to show how 12's grown from Kill the Moon in handling companions. And Extremis, as a standalone, is wonderful.

But everything else is a bit uneven in one way or another,

Okay. Yesterday, I added a few fics in the SJA section to the Google Drive Doc. Have you already started taking fics from the drive and started compiling them?

In retrospect, I think 12 got fucked over by Smith's early departure, which forced Moffat to cram all the Trenzalore stuff into a single Christmas special. The premise of 12's character arc is that he's been sent into a crisis by the trauma of staying 900 years on Trenzalore, which Time of the Doctor fails to convey – the Doctor seems to be having a rather jolly good time staying in the town of Christmas, which makes 12's newfound stern attitude rather sudden and unexpected. If we had got a full series on Trenzalore paving the way to a darker Doctor, I imagine he would have been recieved much better.

Can someone with Demand 5 or something capture Claudia's TV appearance?

If there was a multi-Doc special where the snappening occurred, would different incarnations get individual chances of getting dusted or would the odds be the same for everyone?

He lost one of the stones already and got his ass beat to shit by Thor when he wasn't even a tenth as powerful as he was in Infinity War.

Your Chris Lore is at painfully low levels.

individual chances

By the logic of the movie, it would be one 50/50 shot for every Doctor existing in the moment of space time the snapture occurred. By classic Who logic, though, it would be a 50/50 chance for every individual incarnation at random times throughout their lives.

how did you know

Who despised their degrading Marvel role more, Eccleman or Hugo Weaving?

Yeah but if a previous incarnation gets dusted doesn't that mean that all future incarnations cease to exist as well

Idris Elba

it takes time as shown in The 2 Doctors where 6 doesn't immediately become an Androgum but very slowly picks up aspects

Mickey Rourke

Which is a shame because unlike Eccleston you could actually see Rourke's passion and intensity on camera just fine, he really sold the character just on his performance alone.

Hugo Weaving, meanwhile, turned in a perfect execution of a two dimensional villain, every particularly smart or clever moment being either a result of the direction or the writing ("Not a scratch, Doctor Zola" comes to mind). Weaving has a lot more nuance as an actor, but clearly recognized a character that did not call for it and instead focused on putting all his energy into the stagey and mime-y skills an actor needs to emote and appeal to the audience despite wearing a mask or a restrictive or alienating costume. These are skills he also put to excellent use in V for Vendetta.

Meanwhile, Eccleston didn't care, the direct didn't care, the writers didn't care, and ultimately audiences didn't care.

Yeah, but he kept coming back.

so they would be dusted too but after a very long time

I've heard Jodie talk in interviews and she sounds normal, but I had no clue what she said in the show. The internet tells me she said "Oh, brilliant," but all I hear was "uhbrulenna." Anyone know if this is a different accent she's putting on for the show and I'm going to be frantically watching close-captioning the entire run?

just stop being so american

It's her natural accent, it just sounded less clear because she was muttering it under her breath.

I want to tell you that you are beautiful. Don't let Neo tell you otherwise.

Did anyone else think the episode that ended with an hour-long scene of Clara and Dr Who engaging in erotic BDSM play was a bit weird?

Nah the one with 12 arguing for the positives of eugenics and mass removal of undesirable elements of society was weirder. I don't know what Clara meant by forcibly creating an ethnostate but she looked pretty aroused by the idea so I'm pretty sure it can only be a good thing.

is it just me or have the sonic sunglasses aged surprisingly well as a concept so far

I'd say they'd have aged better without the frankly over-the-top usage of them in S10 combined with the ill-thought-out blindness arc. But they aren't actually a bad concept. The show should experiment with more alternatives for the sonic.

depends who you ask

some people are against them out of principle and haven't budged but personally I love how silly they are

>the frankly over-the-top usage of them in S10

I honestly can't remember them being used in Series 10 outside of the blindness arc—which is where they arguably make more sense than any other occasion on the show.

File: d4ad0469c1fb033⋯.gif (498.54 KB, 500x259, 500:259, catchul8r.gif)

They are timeless and classic cool. Wayfarers are the quintessential time travel accessory.

oh yeah, and there was that GOAT moment where he put them on David Bradley

The problem with it was the lack of clarity regarding how much the sunglasses actually allowed him to see. It was all over the place and a lot of it is down to how they handled the visual effects, but fundamentally it made no fucking sense for the sunglasses to be able to shoot some kind of radar feed directly to his brain but not a straightforward camera stream.

weren't they just used to make a joke about 1 calling them stupid?

by and large S10 reverted back to the regular screwdriver in most situations unless there was some justification to needing a visual aid

That's not a lack of clarity, it's not like it was inconsistent in how it was portrayed.

With the level of definition we see him receiving in Extremis, it's odd that he couldn't make out the numbers on the door lock in Pyramid.

and its color palette was absolute shit

Does that mean the same as 'overwrought' or something else

I always thought this was waaaaaaaayyy more phallic than all the other screwers. I mean it has like, a head. and kind of a half-retracted foreskin.

Yea, but specifically the metal bits and brackets, in a tool and dye sense.

>I get the blue, but the green light effect. Why?

I consider green a compromise - we almost got red which would have looked worse

I think if you're gonna make the sonic into some kind of ridiculous power wand then Eleven's is the best and fullest realisation of that approach. Personally I really want to see the War Games-style sonic make a return.

god how did they think this would be suitable for Capaldi's Doctor?

does stephen cooper have a twitter? we should ask him about the design decisions that went into this sonic concept

He's just the guy who drew it up, Michael Pickwoad designed it

Beautiful and elegant.

Disgusting. Looks like starshit.

>red which would have looked worse

Are you sure? I don't know. At least there's an in universe "red setting". I wonder how many concepts they laid out before choosing that, and what they looked like. Like for ST:TOS they brought out 5 or 6 concepts for the enterprise. The designers all liked the enterprise they eventually went with and had already produced models for it while the other concepts were just illustrations. They kind of used the mock up to force gene roddenberry into choosing that design. I can't see anyone "loving" this sonic.

the color combination of "blue yellow red" looks worse than "blue yellow green"

I'd like to see a sonic with a spinning head. Give it the illusion that there's rotational force coming from it maybe.

For sure. Extra submissions are a good thing, the more the merrier - I check the new uploads on the drive and before I do the final release I'll make sure to check every folder and file to make sure absolutely everything got in and there's no need for revisions.

One of my favourite moments of Capaldi's era. God I fucking love TMA~TWF and the sunglasses.

It's genuinely hideous.

What's that?

I agree; 11/12's early sonic is the logical conclusion to the gimmick wand approach, going any further with it (like 12's later one did) is just grating.

After his brush with nazidom he realised his true calling as an 'alternative' Youtuber

The best thing about that scene in TWF is that Moffat quietly sets it up all the way from the first scene of TMA.

>Doctor uses sonic to create acoustic corridor for young Davros

>later, Doctor hears Clara and Missy from up in the stands, despite not having his screwdriver (this is never pointed out, we're left to notice it ourselves)

>gag in TWF about the Doctor prizing his sunglasses more highly than the confession dial

And all of this culminates in the climax of the two parter. Absolutely based.

actually its stupid because they r just sunglasses and dont even have an effect. fuck moffet

Neo. Are you #instagay?

I'm not a Queen fan by any stretch but I have thoughts about this trailer

Firstly it's kind of silly the way it makes it look like Queen's "big pioneering struggle" is releasing a radio single that's slightly longer than average (what is Like a Rolling Stone)

Secondly if a movie was made about my favourite artist and it was pseudonymd after one of their songs and seemed to revolve fairly heavily around that one single song I'd be inclined to roll my eyes pretty heavily. But that's marketing I guess. (Again to bring up Dylan, as a fan it's pretty cool that we have a biopic of him that actually has somewhat elevated artistic merit compared to most)

>that filter

there's a man goin round takin pseudonyms

It's an OK list tbqh.

Don't look up the original envisioning of the movie with Sacha Baron Cohen if you don't want to be disappointed

If you want to wash that taste out of your mouth with some actual good + even experimental "music biopics", Love and Mercy (Brian Wilson/the Beach Boys) and I'm Not There (Bob Dylan) are fantastic. Walk the Line (Johnny Cash) is as far as the traditional take on music biopics can be taken imo.

>Don't look up the original envisioning of the movie with Sacha Baron Cohen if you don't want to be disappointed

We'll as I said I'm no Queen fan

>I'm Not There

Yeah, it's kino (hence why I, uh… referenced it in my post…)

I never thought that it'd be so simple but

I found a way, I found a way

I always thought that it'd be too crazy but

I found a way, I found a way

See what's inside

Well it's gonna take some time, to realize

But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find….

Over your shoulder you know

I'll always be pickin' you up when you're down

So just turn around

Now that I know that anything's possible

I found a way, I found a way

No one can break what is so unbreakable

I found a way, I found a way

And if you open up your mind

See what's inside

Well it's gonna take some time, to realize

But if you look inside, I'm sure you'll find

Over your shoulder you know that I told you

I'll always be pickin' you up when you're down

So just turn around

No one cares, what you give

You know you gotta live like you wanna live

When it's time, to be free

You know you gotta be what you wanna be

And if you open up your mind, see what's inside

It's gonna take some time, to realize

But if you look inside I'm sure you'll find

Over your shoulder you know that I told you

I'll always be pickin' you up when you're down

It's interesting that a lot of recent pretty high profile shows are using time travel (I don't really wanna pseudonym them since that would constitute a spoiler in itself, but there's a few). I don't mean like sci-fi time travel shows, but shows that gradually kind of subversively added time travel as a story element. Is time travel becoming a bigger thing, or are shows just more into embracing the weird factor now, or some other third reason? I wonder what it means for Doctor Who that more prestige-y shows are using time travel as well now.

Movie franchises too, I think

Ah yes. Some pretty widely-watched ones too.

To be fair, time travel as a trope has been around for a long time and has been a common element even when doctor who was at its lowest(wilderness years); but I think the embrace of it as part of media in complete other genres is a testament to the blurring of genre lines: doctor who uses time travel to tell comedy or romance stories; and equally comedies like hot tub time machine or romances like About Time have risen in the like. Kinda reminds me of the rise of Jazz Rock where youd have Cream and Zappa and King Crimson on one side while you had Miles Davis's Fusion stuff and weather report and return to forever on the other side.

>King Crimson

>To be fair

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Doctor Who. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of temporal mechanics and quantum physics, most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also the Doctor's, specifically the Twelfth’s, nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Doctor Who truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in the Doctor’s catchphrases: “My boy; Oh my giddy aunt; Reverse the polarity; Would you like a jelly baby?; Brave heart; UNLIMITED RICE PUDDING; I think have amnesia; No more; Fantastic!; Allons-y!, Geronimo!; and Shut up!" which are a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Steven Moffat's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools… how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Gallifreyan tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they can translate Gallifreyan (from memory) and that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand King Crimson. The improvisation is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical musicology most of the chords will go over a typical listener’s head. There’s also Peter Sinfield’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his lyrics- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Shakespearian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realise that they’re not just flowery- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike King Crimson truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Greg Lake’s existential catchphrase “confusion will be my epitaph,” which itself is a cryptic reference to English Romantic poet Alexander Pope's heroic couplets. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Robert Fripp’s genius wit unfolds itself into their earphones. What fools.. how I pity them

The One Doctor

What is the equivalent of "STARRING KYLE MACLACHLAN" in Doctor Who?

>Doctor Who: The Return

What would it be like? Who'd be the cast? Writer? What would happen?

Dark Mood Woods for the scenes of Tegan and Dukkha in The Dark Places of the Inside in Kinda + Laura Palmer's Theme during Curse of Fenric (probably at the end of episode 4)

1.it'd be VNA level dark

2.Tom Baker and Lalla Ward

3.Marc Platt

4.by in the second wilderness

I'm not sure I have a good answer to this, but I know Cartmel was into Twin Peaks when it was broadcast, so I'm eternally assblasted that the McCoy era didn't go on longer for Cartmel to add a Twin Peaks influence into the show

It'd be written by RTD and the Doctor would be absent for 90% of it, it'd take the form of something between Children of Earth and Love and Monsters in terms of tone and structure

File: c0e61b67b277546⋯.jpeg (21.6 KB, 640x352, 20:11, two-doctorsjpg.jpeg)

Gonna answer myself

I'd see it as the form of the show after the second wilderness. I'd imagine Tennant being brought back, or an obvious Tennant expy being used. Actually, fuck, use Tennant himself, either a degenerated ~14, or actually setting it in the post DOTD pre EOT days, and have Meta10 be the doppelgänger equivalent. And just go full bore on the idea of meeting fan expectations. Not sure what writer…someone that knows Doctor Who really well, but could be hypercritical of it. Oh fuck, it'd have to be Loz wouldn't it?

Woah those are kino choices

Fuck, I love that idea. Platt would genuinely be a perfect choice for it, he totally fits the "deeply understands Who but is deeply critical at the same time" mould it'd need.

reee that sounds amazing

Listening to the Lost Stories season for what it wouldve been; I honestly think between what Platt was writing with the VNAs, Cartmel planned for the series and what the aesthetic was for the time it would have been twin peaks before twin peaks

Kino plan. RTD would never do something so audience-hostile which is a damn shame since he'd actually be incredible at it. COE meets L&M sounds like the perfect approach. Imagine if 90% was RTD full kitchen sink mode, and the Doctor's return at the end was inevitably disappointing. k i n o

An 18-episode series with each episode co-written by Cartmel, Aaronovitch, and Platt, and directed by Talalay. Starring Sylvester McCoy and Jodie Whittaker, with roughly equal screentime. Jodie has fairly normal adventures with her companions in the TARDIS, and McCoy has more esoteric ones, first wandering around some weird higher dimension, then ending up stranded with amnesia on some random planet. One episode is a Punchline adaptation. Towards the end, Seven finally recovers his memories, meets Thirteen, and saves her from Fenric. He then wanders into the depths of the TARDIS and meets the Corsair, whose spirit is trapped in a giant tea-kettle. The Corsair sends him back to the past on Gallifrey, where he stops Gallifreyan Clara from directing Hartnell to steal the right TARDIS. McCoy and Clara travel to Lungbarrow and find it empty. Clara screams. Cut to black. Mica Levi composes the score.

Is Twin Peaks s3 worth watching if I didn't care for the last episode od s2?

Depends what you didn't like about the S2 finale. Have you seen the movie?

It's more similar to the s2 finale than it is to any other episode of the first two seasons.

it would be a gay porno

1. VNA level dark

2. Padre Nilso

3. Monsieur gayno

end credits without a score of me sat asleep at my desk with my legs up then falling off my chair and hitting my head on a linoleum floor

>it was designed to transmit in 18 separate installments

It was all written as one continuous huge script, like a movie. It was then shot all by one director entirely pre postprod, like a movie. It was only edited into episodes in postproduction; it's arguable whether that constitutes being "designed" that way.

t. lynchso

>tfw the singer in Mummy on the Orient Express was played by Foxes and not Neil Hannon

>tfw no light-hearted non-sequitur closing scene where the singer casually opens a hidden compartment on the train to reveal another TARDIS, then disappears into it, never to be seen again, but implying that Hannon was playing a far-future Doctor who literally wrote Song for Ten and Love Don't Roam based on his own fond memories of being Tennant and travelling with Rose

>It was only edited into episodes in postproduction; it's arguable whether that constitutes being "designed" that way.

You're forgetting that throughout writing it and shooting it, Lynch and company were (presumably) not under some ridiculous illusion that the entire show would air in one uninterrupted 16-hour block, and did in fact write and shoot the series in the knowledge that they would ultimately edit into episodes. Hence the number of Roadhouse performances conspicuously matching up to the number of episodes minus the finale, for example.

But this is completely immaterial.

If Lynch ever decides to edit an uninterrupted version I will happily call that a movie. But what aired on Showtime in 2017 was a TV series and this fact cannot be changed.

>Hence the number of Roadhouse performances conspicuously matching up to the number of episodes minus the finale

It doesn't actually match up, there's a few episodes without any Roadhouse performance.

Would you concede it being edited as a TV show, but written and directed as a film? I feel like blanket referring it to a TV show in the same way that season 1 and 2 were a TV show does a discredit to those seasons, to TV in general, and to what The Return is. TV is a particular form with a particular workflow and the way TP achieved greatness in that form is entirely different than how it achieved greatness in how S3 was made. Being written as one single script, lacking renewal contracts and instead contracting people on as a predetermined filming engagement, production and postproduction being entirely discrete processes with no rollover, these things aren't how TV is made. I'm not saying it's more a film than a TV show as some sort of prestige thing since it's really good, just that the workflow it was made in, and the medium it fits best matches film much more closely than TV in my view.

Neo, I added a note about the SJA fics in your Discord PMs.

>It doesn't actually match up, there's a few episodes without any Roadhouse performance.

You're right. My mistake. There is still a clear rule of the Roadhouse serving as the end credits sequence unless there is something more thematically important to go in its place that episode.

>Would you concede it being edited as a TV show, but written and directed as a film?

Okay, but (in response to this whole paragraph) I don't think the designations TV series or film can ever accurately capture what you want them to. The workflow for TV made today is radically different to that for TV made in 1963, but we still call them both TV, because there is more than one way of making TV and there will be others in future (with Lynch's film-like method being another one). The semantic division between "TV" and "film" comes from the format of the end product as experienced by the viewer, not from the method of production, so asking it to represent the production practices is inevitably a dead end.

Likewise there are anime films which essentially just consist of 3-4 episodes stitched together, but it makes no sense to call them TV series.

yes but the reasons I'd do it are more than nilsos pseudonym funny

Perhaps the semantic issue comes down to there not really being an effective cover-all term for sequential audiovisual media the way "literature" can cover novels/short stories/poetry/etc. Film once really just meant something literally printed on film, movie meant moving pictures, television something broadcast on television, but a lot of these terms kind of collapse with the blurring of the lines that's going on now. I maintain there's merit to using the traditional attributes of the mediums as a kind of signifier, but I think anyone into media enough to have these kind of discussions is aware of how ultimately wishy-washy it is.

I'm iffy about your the-end-product-transmission-determines-the-medium definition because of things like films "transmitted" solely on Netflix/Amazon and not cinemas, or things like Inhumans created as TV shows but designed from the ground-up to be aired in cinemas.

Can you elaborate?

Depends on the student/s and age. P. E. generally, the curriculums are generally pretty poorly designed and it crosses over a lot into stuff that should be getting covered outside of school.

>What is it about the Doctor that makes it so excellent when they're not there?

In L&M, it's the glorification of the 'hero' that the Doctor represents and what he should represent…and what he…never won't represent, sort of thing, eventually leading to the downfall of the main character(s) and their realisation that there's nothing great about him at all.

It's similar in CoE - that whole speech Gwen does about the Doctor looking down on earth in shame, even that is romanticising him. CoE examines the human condition and how purely disgraceful we can be without a calming influence, and humans who know him often depict the Doctor as some sort of God. The Doctor may be a God to some, he may be a God to himself, but he never gets to see the tsunami he leaves behind, and the lives he ruins. Because he never sees that, neither do we.

I'm not going back and proof-reading that, but there's a point in it somewhere - I hope it's articulated well enough.

ok but what about nilso

I'd rather do the first one as a spinoff in its own right though

Why is the RTD "has a great cynical take on the Doctor, and the universe at large, but doesn't let it through his audience-focused ratings-grabbing pandering style" internal conflict so mechanically similar to the Moffat "has a dark adult talk on the Doctor, and the universe at large, but doesn't let it through his insistence on being superficially positive and making the show for kids" internal conflict?
