Can the Daleks ever be used effectively again?
They seem to have lost all of their scare factor over the generations. I was never scared, even as a little kid.
They seem to be able to scare grown people though so maybe there's something wrong with me.
I think their best appearances have been in "Genesis of the Daleks" "Remembrance of the Daleks" "Jubilee" "Dalek" and "Into the Dalek"
None of them frightened me but I thought they were brilliant in those episodes.

Here's an 8 years old quote about Daleks.
>When I suggested you watch this story, you said, "Oh no, not the Daleks - they're not cute!">Kid: They're not cute or scary.
>What about Davros?>Kid:Until the bit came up when I saw his eye, because I didn't see his face, I thought he was a little, cute doggy.
>Was he scary though?>Kid:No. He's exactly the same as the Daleks, so he's not that scary. No.2905

>>2905That's what Moffat's been trying to do, but BBC are still insistent on them having a presence in the show regularly.
So Moffat had Victory set up a new empire, then don't see them properly for a couple of years. Then Asylum where they're only against the craies the Daleks lock away and not the main fleet. Then Into which is mostly just a single Dalek.
He's trying to put them away for a bit so that when The Doctor does run into their main fleet again it feels like a big deal. But since the BBC push for them he needs to come up with with ways for them to show up without feeling like it's the main Dalek fleet.

So the question is: How did the Daleks, Cybermen, etc get their hands on a siege mode Tardis?

>>3004I don't get why people hate on 10. He's got fantastic character development. Think about it. He started out as a man full of hope and love - and tries to remain as such - but has it stripped slowly away from him, beginning almost immediately when Harriet Jones commits an act of genocide right in front of him. From there, he
>loses the woman he loves>hurts one of his dearest friends (and inadvertently gets her family enslaved)>finds another Time Lord and his own daughter … only to have both die in his arms>and then he has to violate the mind of his best friend to save her life. This leaves him alone, angry, bitter, and leads to him breaking the laws of time and forcing a woman to commit to clean up his mess. And when faced with the end of his existence, he rages against an unfair universe that has taken everything away from him and given him nothing in return.
Not to mention his half regeneration. In that experience, he experienced the absolute and total, mind-ripping pain of regeneration that usually gets forgotten in the chaos of readjustment. Of course he was scared about regenerating; of course he could give a lucid account of the pain to Wilf. He knew, more than any Doctor before him. Because he survived.
Tennant suffered from shitty scripts that drag down the value of his many great ones, and he had the unfortunate consequence of attracting gaggles of preteen girls to the show, but he's a real bro and is a lifelong fan of the show. His devotion to the show runs so deep, he married the daughter of a previous Doctor.
Say what you want about Tennant, but I thought he played a fantastic Doctor. I like him for a lot of the same reasons as I'm growing to like 12 - fantastic actor; lifelong fan of the show; and great character development for his Doctor. He'll always be one of my favorites.

>>3010Right. The problem with that is that what you've described takes the form of one big sad thing happening to him once or twice a series, until his last few episodes where he's hit the limit. It's more of a logic for explaining his behaviour in his last few episodes, and it works fairly well, but when you talk about 'fantastic character development' you have to account for all of the episodes inbetween.
If 10 was really a well-developed character, you would be able to see a clear and fairly consistent character building up, changing and becoming more nuanced/flawed over the course of his run. What they actually did, for the most part, was write whatever would make Tennant's Doctor seem the most fun/tragic/"wonderful" at any moment in time, and then have something really sad happen to him at the end of each series finale (RIP Donna, you were arbitrarily sacrificed to the Ten angstfest). This is how you get weird inconsistencies like the whole no second chances business or throwing the Family in eternal hell followed by I forgive you Master come gimme a hug, also I never would and fuck you for blowing up the Daleks.
