Maybe the BBC put pressure on to have a contemporary companion because of some demographic nonsense.

Dark Eyes I or Dark Eyes II?

I preferred II. The Master was great.

Season 8 has had easily the most philosophical/character complexity of any season of nuwho, they've been super consistent with the the Clara+Doctor character arcs and despite it being an obvious focus (am I a good man?) they haven't spelled everything out for people. I still think RTDs characters had more emotional depth but Moffat is finally nailing an "intelligent" story that isn't just "lol convoluted plot!"

The kids get the "MAN WHO FIGHTS THE MONSTERS" and the adults get "goodness has nothing to do with it."

 No.3505

>>3504
Moffat may have finally found the perfect balance.

I definitely agree with your statement about RTD's emotional depth, but it is often done inappropriately and out of character. 10 was so inconsistent that I wondered if he had the same showrunner at times.

Hopefully Moffat does manage to bring some more emotion to the characters, starting with Danny.

What if Missy is the new companion?
Think about it.
What if she turns out to be a good guy in the end?

 No.3511

Hey guys, help me out here. I remember seeing a classic serial from the early 80s and thinking "This shit is ripping off Star Wars" but I don't remember which one or how. Any idea what I'm thinking of?

Does anyone remember this? I remember someone mentioned it to Gattis on an after show and he said "sometimes you know too much"

Was he just joking around or do you think this has any relevance?

Series 8 is RTD Who part 2. I'm loving it.

Minor character in a minor episode… but then… Missy has been taking mostly minor characters…

And it was the Cybermen…

Its RTD Who New and Improved Part 2.

Its RTD Who but with a lot of improvements.

I will be fucking pissed if it's a 12/10 finale like Utopia/Sound of Drums/Last of the Timelords but then the last 15 minutes poisons the whole thing.

I don't know.
Gattis looked kind of nervous when he said it but he could have been playing around.

I guess we'll wait and see.

That's exactly how I'd describe it, New Who before Moffat fucked it up. Though I get the feeling it's the calm before the storm and Missy will turn series 9 into series 6.

Everything was so bittersweet.

There were some fantastic moments like the Drums but then there were shittastic moments like Jesus Doctor.

 No.3533

Series 1 was good yah. Series 4 though was largely wasted potential, they had the seedling of an amazing story, but they executed it in such a really dumb way.

How does the Master ever listen to music without being distracted by the drumbeat in his head?

 No.3535

Series 8 is just planting the seeds.
Series 9 is going to be the true golden age, I bet Gallifrey is going to play a role.

Oh jesus I forgot about rose.

That made it even better.

Not to mention Sarah Jane, who has encountered the Daleks a number of times and never been so scared suddenly freaking out

Jack who is fucking immortal "we're dead."

Don't they all realize they live in Doctor Who and the Doctor is just going to save them all?

To be fair, the idea was she was so worried that her son was going to have to experience the horror of the Daleks, so I feel it works.

It still looks pretty damn good.
