According to the production subtitles, the faceoff between McCoy and the Black Dalek at the end of Remembrance was originally going to be a sort of spaghetti western faceoff with the Doctor using the Finger of Omega. But McCoy didn't like idea of the Doctor using weapons himself, so instead they went with the "talks the Dalek to suicide" ending.

That sequence is really well done, too, particularly the shot of the Doctor walking towards it and the effect of the Dalek phasing out of existence.

I think Remembrance of the Daleks is PERFECT. The only problem I have with is what the fuck happened to the Girl? Did she remember what she did? Did she have trauma? Its shown in a VNA book the doctor can remove memories if a person is sleeping. Why wouldn't he?

Moffat has said outright that the experience of outliving all those people is basically what resulted in 12 being less of a cuddly romantic. But importantly she still continues to care for him even as he grows frail and barely recognisable.
