this does actually bother me

isn't fallout meant to have internally consistent lore? having destructible environments that inevitably regenerate and get un-nuked takes you out of the magic circle and destroys immersion

Nobody should be shocked. This was always going to happen as the emergency plan 'B' during a ratings slump, ever since they installed a retcon to allow it some 4 (?) series ago. Now ratings are down and they need a big PR campaign to drag them up again. If this turns out popular they get their moment in the light, if it goes badly they claim misogyny and get an even bigger Regressive-PR boost. Meanwhile they won't fix the actual problem with the show, shite writers.

how the fuck do you fuck up lore this badly? do they simply not care?

Will there be smartphones in elder scrolls 6?

 No.47034

>>47033

They just don't care. To be fair I 100% understand changing lore for gameplay reasons (like >>47031), it's just how fucking smarmy Pete Hines is about it that pisses me off. They bought the Fallout IP because they saw value in it. Deriding aspects of the IP is just so tone deaf to me.

The Elder Scrolls is built from the ground-up to support retcons and shifting the lore (kinda like Doctor Who I guess), but Fallout never was, and Bethesda's style never really meshed with the aspects of the IP that were pre-them. This is why I wish they just stuck completely to the east coast and didn't touch west coast stuff but they like the marketable aspects like caps, super mutants, etc, so here we are.

ooh, here's a fun one

>So you can see why these fake quotes from Moffat Says are so entertaining to the long-suffering anti-Moffat corner of Doctor Who fandom.

>On actor Christopher Eccleston’s absence from the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special:

<“His exact words were, ‘A fucking reset button? Like fuck am I coming back to canonically nullify my character arc.’ I still can’t figure out what he meant by that.”

>On the possibility of casting a female Doctor.

<“I suppose, if it has to happen, I’ll get behind it… But she better have a decent pair.”

>On all the jokes about the Doctor’s sonic screwdriver:

<“…Then it hit me. The sonic screwdriver is shaped like a dong. I thought there was so much potential for comedy in there… We’d be stupid not to milk it for all it’s worth.”

>To be honest, the only thing separating that last quote from a real Steven Moffat interview statement is the useage of the word “dong.” He’d probably say something more British. Which is why several of the Moffat Says posts have spread across thousands of Tumblrs in just one week. Like all good satire, they tread the line between believable and absurd.

>It’s just too bad that one of the world’s most beloved sci-fi franchises is currently in the hands of someone who could plausibly have said, “I write very good women. I can’t think of a single woman I’ve written who I wouldn’t bang.”

In all seriousness, do you think Doctor Who should one day pull the 'Doctor regenerates into a body identical to a past incarnation' stint? If so, what do you think would be the best way to handle that? If it were to happen with 14, which living actor would be best for it?

Absolutely based. Had never considered this, but now she's definitely on my list.

 No.47237

>>47236

>If so, what do you think would be the best way to handle that?

The best way to handle it is by having them play a very different incarnation, just one that happens to be portrayed by the same actor.

I think the best person would be Matt, once he's in his 50's.

 No.47238

I don't think the show should close itself off to it. It could be really interesting and how fascinating would it be to see a great actor give a totally different performance for two separate Doctors? I wouldn't be very interested in someone just returning for marketability and basically just playing their earlier Doctor though.

If S5B keeps up the quality and brings the ending home I wouldn't be surprised if I rated it above S3>S1>4Remix.

Here's an interesting thing for you - the original plan for S4 was that you could watch it in any order; that each ep would chart the character's entire timeline from S3 finale to Cinco.

The image is the lynchpin their plot revolves around, and that plot is inhuman monsters hiding under the skins of those purporting to care about the people, to start a fake war against a fake enemy in response to a flying ship crashing into an iconic tall building, all to serve the greater plan of making huge profits selling fuel. The image is them unmasked at at the culmination of their plot and is the clearest meshing of the iconographies of the alien and the political in the episodes. It also comes right before they're obliterated by pic related, which is full of its own meanings.

Fanservice doesn't necessarily have to refer to lewd stuff. You used it correctly.

As for why, probably Moffat was just reaching for things to make the scene feel significant since it only existed as a way of launching into the tacked-on TUAT instead of the regeneration it was originally going to be.

Not my take; I found that scene very powerful and 100% in tie with the themes and characterwork of The Doctor Falls. The Doctor has died and been reborn so much that even in the very act of death, which you'd expect to be an individual moment of unique passing, he's reduced to regurgitating the last words of men he's been before - he's died so many times that he can't even die a new man. That absolutely fits in with 12's suicidal tendencies and his relentless rage at being forced to keep living a life he's not finding anything new in, just the same pains he's so sick of feeling. I got chills from him screaming no and no over again at the end…it's a repudiation of what I'm talking about, but in the process it's also literally quoting 2's last words as well. He can't escape. Excellent stuff.

The 2parter kills me because I love the idea of it so much…I even like parts of the Slitheen design…but I fucking despise the Slitheen "humour" so much, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me. Have unironically considered doing the ridiculously assblasted and making a fanedit with all that humour cut out.

I go back and forth on whether the Zygons would have worked better than the Slitheen in that 2parter. They'd have worked better than the Slitheen as we got them, humour and all, imo…but I think there's a lot specific to the Slitheen that's important to the episode. The Zygons don't tie into David Icke or reptilians or anything like that. They tie into the skinchanging stuff nicely, but the Slitheen looking like warped versions of stereotypical aliens I think was important to the whole metaplot (fake invasion made to look real) and all that. Plus I do think S1 bringing back the Zygons as well would have been a bit much.

I'd be super interested in RTD novelising that 2parter come to think of it.

The crude vulgarity of the Slitheen is actually not as big a kino tax as it's reputed to be. It's even slightly brilliant in a way. Any old show can depict politicians as aliens. It takes Doctor Who, under a director hamfistedly attempting to pander to the child audience, to depict them as farty shitbags steeped in disgusting excretions and childishly revelling in their own toilet noises.

I get what you mean intellectually but just viscerally I hate it so much, it's so actively discomforting for me to watch. I was a child when I watched the eps and I hated it then too.

Iirc one of the Slitheen mentioned enjoying the politician-whose-skin-they-stolen's-wife right, implying they'd raped some lady under misdirection? Very hateable villains.

Another bugbear, the CGI shot of them running down a corridor has them all lithe, whereas every actual costume shot of them has them (understandably) bulky and slow.

The Time Lord Victorious stuff almost comes off as an aborted arc since effects of it are pretty much only implied in EOT. Obviously humour is cringy and overblown and too much, but I think it's necessary to an extent - Slitheen (as I read them) are supposed to be the perverted stereotypical aliens (instead of being slim they are fat and ugly with babyfaces, instead of being ascended or devoted to science or whatever they are childish, marginalized and immature, the only intention of whom is to make profit). I think fart jokes contribute to this viewing of slitheen because it's arguably the lowest kind of humour you can imagine.

Maybe it should have been toned down or it was different in the script and it's directors fault, I don't know. There are so many different readings whether jokes were straightforward comedy to appeal to kids or it was specially overblown or it was just tonally wrong on director's part, but I think it's good that DW episode can produce this controversy and discussion (even if it's about literal farts)

 No.47533

The Doctor has spent a lot of time encouraging antagonistic groups of beings to sit down and talk, to co-operate for the greater good. And as soon as he achieves this, he buggers off, in most cases never to return. He is very much in favour of unity amongst hitherto warring factions, as long as he takes no part in it. He is happy to see other groups give up some of their sovereignty for the sake of peace, but one suspects he would rather die than give up any of his own. The only time he was, though circumstance, forced to become part of a supranational body (in this case, the UN) he baulked at its authority and did everything he could to subvert it, ignore it, ridicule it and finally break free of it. He values freedom above all else, including stability and prosperity, and even his own life. If he makes mistakes, and he does indeed make many, he alone is responsible for them. He annoys people no end, especially those who presume to be in authority. He flies around the world in a ramshackle contraption and expects everyone to do his bidding, which they do, or if they don't, they're toast. He is accountable to no one, and makes all his own rules to live by, in whichever way he chooses. In his own opinion, he can do no wrong, and everyone, or rather everyone who matters, agrees. He is the plucky underdog who is at the same time virtually god-like in his powers, and no one sees this as a contradiction. His best days were over many, many years ago, but with flashy, modern effects he can still pretend otherwise, if only to himself. He is multi-faced and unpredictable, your greatest, most loyal friend and your most perfidious, untrustworthy ally. And he doesn't give a shit. His influence on the world has been immense, incalculable, and whole civilisations exist only because of him. Everywhere he goes, everyone speaks his language, and all those who matter share his values, which he seeded long ago. He is the ultimate explorer, yet at times, all he wants is to be in a little box of own, his first and only true love, surrounding and protecting him in deepest blue, like the sea. He is the epitome of Brexit.

both of these have bars anon the second one is just more subtle

 No.47675

>>47668

There's a distinct difference between solid top/bottom bars and bars which have a passing gradient. Both do the exact same job to make the font readable but the gradient bars which fade out into the back of the image are much more subtle.

the text is always readable since they have a black outline the bars do not need to exist

 No.47682

>>47681

This is a valid point but the gradient bars come in handy when the background colour you want is bright or blends when mixed with white. If the colour of the background doesn't demand it, it shouldn't be there. If they want to use a colour such as gold, yellow or red a fading gradient is really required.
