S8 was a massive disappointment. There was maybe four "good" episodes out of 12 and even they weren't that great, just better than the other shit.
Capaldi himself was fantastic but really let down by poor writing. Unless we get a new showrunner, I won't be bothering with S9.

I'm sick and tired of attempts to make it look like the big bad just died for real, because we all know that they never, ever did.

It's the only series of NuWho I've felt like rewatching. I liked it.

Besides the Moon Egg and Magic Forest, I thought this was the best season yet. Easily better than anything from the Matt Smith era, except Day of the Doctor which was just amazing. Capaldi's my favorite Doctor now.

It sucked. Full of SJW-tier bullshit like lesbian lizards, oppressed foreigners and making sure niglet children feel special.

Capaldi himself is doing great, but everything else is shit.

- Some really great stories marred ever so slightly by an inconsistent arc. Great start, great Doctor, and some GOAT stories.

- Really good lead chemistry and a very strong second half (apart from the finale. Big, fun and exciting.

- Mostly average, with no standout classics. Middling but enjoyable with a neat arc and some good stories.

- Great arc for the Doctor, but very dated tone and feel. Some great stories, but some shit too.

- Terrible first half, really good second. Shit climax, boring companion.

I completely disagree with OP this season has been better than the rest of the 2005 series, brings a touch of old school doctor to the scene blended with the new stuff.

I think I can say with no authority or confidence whatsoever that the worst season (of NuWho) was Series 2.

Series 8 had its duds (off the top of my head, Deep Breath and the one with the trees), but it was better than 6. So it wasn't even the worst of Moffat's run.
