Just did some reading. I never knew this, but Let There Be More Light was 'mistakenly printed as "Point Me to the Sky" on the label and or sleeve' in foreign releases, and this live performance in the video was broadcast by the BBC as Point Me to the Sky. That's also what this version has been titled on The Early Years.

They should have explained this in the description because people were naturally going to get confused by it

>Pink Floyd released 'Point Me At The Sky' as their fifth UK single in 1968. The song has become one of the rarest official recordings of Pink Floyd and was not successful at the time, with it's B-side 'Careful with That Axe, Eugene' becoming more popular.

Its a rare period of the band no one gives a fuck about; Barrett left with all his genius, though the band filmed promos with him acting like everything was amazing, and waters and gilmour had piss all for ideas. The only one trying at that moment was Rick Wright, and he barely could produce Syd Barrett-lite. The band doesn't even get decent on average until after their live album.

>has visible screw holes and a slot cut into the body just for the battery pull tab when you first get it

the UK one

It's an upcoming Doctor Who videogame.

It's actually story-driven and various BBC novels and BF writers are writing separate stories for it.

Current list of known writers is: George Mann (writing 12/missy/daleks story), Gary Russell (writing 3/Jo/menoptra story), Scott Handcock (writing 10/Rose story in a welsh countryside setting), Jacqueline Rayner (writing 11/amy/rory in the sixties story). There's also an upcoming 4/Harry/Kate/Osgood story but the writer is unknown.

Each story is supposed to be 10-15 hours long. Basically it's just animated comic books with voiceover intercut with gem puzzles.

What do you guys think of the alcove entrance? Personally I dont like the classic who thing of stepping through large metal doors into a v o i d , and coming out small wooden doors.

personally i quite like the look of the new police box alcove porch thing (or whatever we're calling it). But it will be weird to think about when the Tardis is going through space and spinning… is the door part at the centre then? I always imagined that characters would feel a rotation around the time rotor as the tardis travels

 No.71277

>>71276

It seems to me quite weird to have the shape of the police box represented in the interior in any way beyond the entrance door. Not sure what the point is. Makes it harder to do cool stuff like Flatline.

 No.71278

>>71276

The classic Who one didn't make sense as sometimes it was a void and others it led straight out. Doesn't really bother me though. At the moment I'm not too fond of this new one but I'd have to see it on screen first to make my mind up. On a side note, the contrast between that steampunk entrance look and the pink/purple look we saw of the interior should be interesting.

 No.71279

I'm comfy. Might give us more long shots of people entering the Tardis if the porch makes it easier to film

 No.71280

>>71277

I think it perhaps has something to do with 4 people in the Tardis. When theyre filming on location, the four lead actors would have to shuffle out of the cramped box. The alcove could solve that problem a wee bit. Also it might help with the bigger on the inside effect. Capaldi's Tardis had a little alcove too, but it had rubber tubing for some reason

btw, obviously i havent seen it in motion so like; i dont actually know if it would help filming that much. just speculating

Latest Chibbers' production notes, part 1 of 2:

What a huge difference a year makes. Flash back to July 2017. I'm in a forest with Jo Pearce (Doctor Who's social and digital genius), Matt Strevens, our soon-to-be new series lead director Jamie Childs and his director of photography Sam Heasman. Before he's shot a frame of the show, we've convinced Jamie to shoot the tiny short film revealing the new Doctor, on his weekend off from another job. He agrees, without knowing who the new Doctor will be.

We're looking at a beautiful ruin area that Matt and Jo have spotted. What if the Doctor walked through there? Ooh, that's a nice broken-down wall. What if we had the TARDIS here, and the last shot is the new Doctor walking towards it?

In my mind I'm thinking: Are we really doing this? A secret shoot, with only nine people involved? Will this work? Can we reveal the new Doctor this way? Are the BBC really going to put it out during the Wimbledon Men's Singles Final? Is it crazy? Will people even watch or notice? (Turns out the answer to all those questions is yes.)

Somewhere on a train, Jodie Whittaker is making her way towards us, having told people she's off to make a low-budget Scandinavian film this weekend.

Recce done, we hole up in a hotel. Some of us are checked in under fake names. I can't work out whether that's for security, or because we're all enjoying the cloak and dagger. When I go to check in, I forget my fake name. I'm not very good at this.

The hotel is quiet. Great. As we walk across reception we notice lots of champagne glasses. The staff explain: preparations for the massive wedding reception that's going to be happening tonight. Right. Uh-oh. We can keep her in her room tonight (confining the new Doctor before she even starts!). But to get to the car tomorrow, Jodie will have to walk through this big reception, where the hungover wedding guests will be checking out in the morning. How do we get the new Doctor from her room to the car park, in the costume she's wearing for the shoot, without anyone spotting? We're just going to have to style it out.

Jodie arrives, texting imminent ETAs, and is whisked to her room. Waiting for her is Ray Holman, with the costume he's put together for this sequence (Doctor-ish, and deliberately gender-ambiguous, to extend the tease). We compile her answers to a list of questions that will accompany the press release. There's a knock at the door - Jodie hides. Jamie comes in - and Jodie jumps out with a big "Hello!" Director, meet Doctor.

Part 2 of 2

We have food in the room all together, keeping the curtains closed. We are hooting with laughter. This is mad. We would make rubbish spies.

Sunday morning. Jo Pearce has gone out early, done a dry run driving from the hotel to the location, checking the route. And she comes back alarmed: there's a Velothon on the route! Some of the roads are closed! Her brilliantly planned, shortest possible route from hotel to location won't work. What's more, the car will be passing hundreds of cyclists. What if we have to stop at traffic lights? What if somebody looks in and sees the new Doctor? Hopefully Velothon cyclists will have other things to think about. We manage to smuggle the new Doctor into the back of Jo's car. Hood up in the back, like she's cosplaying The Matrix, sandwiched between two others.

At the location, Jamie's trusted few crew set up, not even knowing why they're here. We tell them and introduce them all to the next Doctor. Jamie takes charge, brilliantly. His team are superb. The sun is shining - dappling the leaves and ground. Colin Hutton, ace and trusted photographer, is on hand to take the shot that we will release to the press alongside the announcement. He didn't know who he'd be photographing either. "It's more like working for MI5 than the BBC," he tells me. He takes the photo that will end up adorning the front pages of pretty much every single national newspaper.

Jodie walks. The camera follows. The sun shines. Doug Walshe, the Steadicam operator, says to us in a break, "My dad's an actor. He was in Doctor Who once." And there in a forest, we look him up on IMDB and discover Doug's dad was in The Sontaran Experiment (Peter Walshe, played Erak)! The thread of Doctor Who, right from the Fourth Doctor's first season in 1975 through to the unveiling of the Thirteenth Doctor in 2017. Someone says: "This time next year, you'll be at Comic-Con!"

Twenty-four hours later I'm climbing the steps to the furthest editing room in BBC Wales. Top of the furthest set of stairs, then up a few more, then down the corridor, and in the corner. Geraint Huws, genius online editor who's been working on the show for years, is editing the final film, working behind a locked door. To get in, we even have a secret knock, so he can blank the screen out. We go in and view, and give notes, and figure out. No time to dither: this has to be edited, scored, graded, CGI'd, approved by Thursday. It's now Monday night.

The end needs a graphic: Introducing Jodie Whittaker, The 13th Doctor. But, in case anyone comes in, Geraint has refrained from putting the name in. The placeholder card graphic just has gobbledegook in place of a name. As we work, I get an email from our visual effects whizz: he's not been told the new Doctor's identity either. Instead of sending the whole piece, we've only sent him the single shot that needs CGI enhancing - the TARDIS key materialising in the new Doctor's hand. He's desperately trying to guess: "Those are not male hands! I've been trying to look at hands of actresses on the internet and nothing matches!"

Part 3 of 2

The week rolls towards the Wimbledon final. Calls are made. Who needs to know the identity of the new Doctor before the rest of the world? Most importantly, Peter Capaldi. We set a time, I call him, and as he picks up the phone the first thing he does is giggle, delighted by the madness around it all. I tell him the name. He is generous and gentlemanly, of course: "Well, she's a fabulous actor," he says. He asks if it will be all right to call Jodie and I put them in touch, one Doctor to the next. I tell Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin. Other Doctors are notified too - I ask David Tennant if he'd be prepared to also give any words of wisdom to the next Doctor, but without telling him it'll be from a number already in his phone. He agrees cos he's the loveliest man (and desperate to know). Matt Smith, via Piers Wenger (the network never fades), is tipped the wink and leaves the most brilliant message for Jodie. The Doctor Who family are all surrounding their newest recruit and it's a gorgeous thing to observe in action. It will only continue post-announcement.

Sunday. The big day. I'm in a hotel in Liverpool (it's always Liverpool), with my family, in advance of being given an honorary doctorate (life, who plots it?!) the next day. Our room isn't ready, so we watch the tennis on a big screen in the bar, amidst dozens of others. There's a stream of texts into my phone, from People Who Know and People Who Don't, all of them nervous and excited. We know Sue Barker will introduce it, but she'll make up her own wording. A text pings in, as Roger Federer walks off court: "Sue Barker has watched the reveal and loves it". Phew, pre-approved from Sue. She's our first viewer!

And then it happens. The secret film is secret no longer. The thing we made up in a forest, a week ago, is on telly. Zipping round the world. It happens. The world keeps going. I turn off my phone and we go out to dinner. Busy week ahead: in 36 hours we film the regeneration.

But that's another story. Twelve months on, back in the present, I need to head to the airport. Comic-Con awaits.

From the forest to San Diego. We're a year in, and the ride's only just beginning.

that picture makes me imagine using the light from the roundels to simulate different hours of the day, which could be kino. I know the TARDIS is sort of timeless, but I think it's fun when we see snippets of the companions' life aboard the ship with them going to bed, etc. could be cool to have that become more visual via lighting

time travel would fuck with your body clock, so the TARDIS would try to compensate by giving you day hours and night hours. Thats my headcanon anyway. (i know there are out of universe explanations but still)

interestingly, most of the TV movie takes place over night. So the TV movie Tardis might normally be brighter

Series 1 – Personal Consequences / the Ripple Effect (The Doctor unintentionally altering the future after killing the Jagrafess, leaving humanity unable to defend itself from the Dalek Invasion)

Series 2 – Complacency / Leaving the Past behind (Rose growing overly fond of the Doctor and being unable to let go)

Series 3 – Enemies in Plain Sight (The Master and the Doctor with the Fobwatch, The Family and their bodysnatching, Weeping Angels hiding themselves from being seen, The Sun being alive, Lazarus’ Genetic Template hiding itself inside his DNA, The Macra hiding under the smog and the Daleks hiding away in the sewers)

Series 4 – Prophecy (The Doctor/Donna / The Master’s return / The Four Knocks)

Series 6 – Time can be rewritten (The Doctor dying/not dying at Lake Silencio)

Series 8 – Identity / Moral Changes (“am I a good man” / “I am an idiot!”)

Series 9 – Vulnerability (Clara constantly putting herself in danger / The Doctor not having anyone to stop him from doing bad things / Me losing her memories over time leaving her cold and bitter)

Series 10 – Redemption (Missy)

S9 is also about what it takes to be the Doctor (continuing on from the identity theme of S8, really). You see it in Clara's ongoing storyline, where she keeps trying to emulate him, although it ultimately results in her death… which, ironically, is the catalyst to her achieving a lifestyle not unlike his own. You could see her temporary exit in Face The Raven as a metaphorical regeneration, then, to tie into this storyline of her becoming this Doctor-adjacent individual.

There's probably something to be said about Me tying into this theme, but I can't think of it right now.

S5 - The power of stories. (Amy's "imaginary friend", things that can be remembered after they're erased from time/rendered imaginary. Doctor is seduced into the Pandorica by the stories around it, it was built because of the stories about him.)

S7A - Closure. (Whole run is about the inevitable exit of the Ponds and 11's inability to let go of them even as they outgrow him. Also applies to 11 solving the divorce plot and thereby bringing closure to S6, his last real positive contribution to their personal lives.) This partially continues into 7B with Name of the Doctor and his saying goodbye to River's ghost, part of a much larger arc about 11 slowly maturing into an adult.

S7B - A person is not a historical process. (11 fails to see Clara as a person due to preoccupation with her "mystery" aka her footprint of historical information. The Great Intelligence is depicted as a force of pure, inert information, reiterated across history, and feeding on human consciousnesses by converting them. The weight of the Doctor's own historical footprint renders him vulnerable to the Great Intelligence's attack. Clara chooses to fulfil her historical role by sacrificing her own life; the Doctor sets out after her to recover her humanity rather than let it be subsumed by this process.)

Rings of Akhaten also slots into this reading of 7B. The pumpkin sun is another information eater like the Great Intelligence. The Doctor is unable to sate it by offering it the sum total of his memories, because it's still only a finite history of experiences. Clara confronts it with an aspect of what living as a person is really like - specifically loss, as experienced in-the-moment with its theoretically infinite permutations - which overloads it to death.

The Doctor did the right thing I think. I think it's more to do with the author in this case. Many companions don't get enough agency in their departure imho. For instance Sarah Jane gets abandoned. The Doctor could have come back after his whole thing on Gallifrey, but he didn't. Leela married some dude she had barely met…

Even Rose had very little agency, it was ripped from her. She chose the Doctor over her family. Perhaps that was an unwise choice, like a teenager getting a silly tattoo and regretting it later on, but it doesn't matter, the Doctor rips that agency from her. Some have argued that the best companion exits are when a certain amount of agency. That's my perspective anyway. RTD could have written out Donna in such a way that gives her agency but he didnt.

To be quite honest, I love Donna's ending in the show. But i also think the more compelling exits often involve why a companion decided to leave

 No.71592

While Rose would have regretted her choice, I think she would have later come to the decision that she had made the right one. The Doctor leaving her with her family was for reasons similar to 11 in The God Complex: he was saving her from a worse fate if she stayed with him. (It was also a choice he made for Jackie; ever since s1 he protected Rose for her)

I also love Donna's exit and it's because I'm a sucker for sad storytelling. Watching Donna go back to her old life, where she thinks nothing of herself and is little more than a typical London woman living with her parents, is heartbreaking considering what she'd become with the Doctor. Had she left in the same way Martha did, for example, it wouldn't have the same effect and, in a cynical way, I wouldn't be as happy with it. Donna was one of RTD's best characters, if not his best, and she deserved a painfully beautiful exit. It wouldn't reach the same levels of emotion had she left the TARDIS enriched as a person.

The Impossible Astronaut really is one of the weirdest episodes of NuWho and by far the weirdest way to open a season. The Doctor appears to have been brutally murdered in the first 10 minutes, then the cliffhanger is the companion suddenly, dramatically revealing she's pregnant and shooting a child in the face. If you travelled back and described it to a fan from 2006, they'd stare at you slack-jawed. Imagine watching it as your first episode ever.
