I assume we all agree that the Doctor's name will and should never be revealed, and if the writers ever did decide to reveal it, they'd handle it in the stupidest way possible with no regard for prior setup or canon.
Going further, arguably the Doctor's name *has* been revealed, depending on what you take as canon and what you ignore. He's Theta Sigma, or the Other, or literally "Doctor Who", or literally "The Doctor". It could be "hidden in plain sight", as they say.
Some sources say a human could never pronounce his name. We see the Doctor's and River's lips move as though they're just speaking simple syllables, but maybe they're using Time Lord abilities to shape sound waves in ways human mouths can't duplicate.
Going woolier, maybe his name isn't a simple audio string at all, but a complex mixture of various elements including arcane Time-Lord-only stuff, and maybe distortions of time itself.
Maybe in some mysterious bollocksy-wollocksy way, it's fundamentally unknowable to humans and therefore the viewer. Or the human mind is just programmed to censor it. "More than just a secret" indeed.
But! I feel like speculating anyway. If they did decide to Reveal the Doctor's Name for Real This Time, how do you think they might do it, or what do you think the name might be? Ignore established canon where inconvenient; the show always does.
One I haven't seen yet: The Doctor's name is Cain.

I think Timelords just put less importance on birth names, and consider whatever title they currently go by to be their real name.

No, The Doctor's name is time itself.

Also you are fools to base who the character is off of fanwankery.

In the Doctor Who fanfic community, the popular consensus is that the Doctor's pre-leaving-Gallifrey name was Theta Sigma, abbreviated to Theta, and the Master's was Koschei. Both of these interpretations are nonsense: Koschei is a pre-existing name from myth that the Master just adopted for that one story; and I like the Foreman headcanon that Theta Sigma was the highest grade on a notoriously difficult Time Lord entry exam that the Doctor aced. But it's a nice substitute for whatever the REAL NAMES are.

Theta Sigma being a grade makes perfect sense, in the BF play 'Omega' we learn Omega was originally Pralix, but he called himself Omega after getting the worst possible grade. (His theories about time travel were considered laughable).
