Kanye West trolled on purpose. He made this sample 2 minutes long for a reason, this song was supposed to be the point of emphasis. The whoopty was just to give the song clout, and all this leftist shit he doing is trying to unite the sides or at least finesse his way into their heart so that he could gain some influence to help both sides, white and others. People really have trouble coming to grip with this theory, because they aren’t free thinkers. Kanye West is admittedly bad at moving in a diplomatic manner, but his intentions are good. His tweets about slavery were about MENTAL slavery, the media didn’t want to adknowledge that, because let’s fuck over Kanye West for the Press. Please screenshot, repost, share, do what you can to get this message out, because this song should be our International Anthem, and he hinted at that. We must lift ourselves and strive for our liberty of the mind if we want to be happy as a whole.

When future generations sift through the smoldering rubble of postmodern America, they would do well to locate a hard drive with RedLetterMedia content on it. They could study Mike and Jay and, with that thin slice of information, fully understand what it is that killed western civilization.

Those two are bitter, cynical nihilists. They have devoted their lives, the prime years of productivity, to pithily lampooning cultural ephemera and implying "we could do better than these idiot filmmakers, but we're too cool to actually try."

They are every strain of societal AIDS melded together into a super AIDS of cultural death…

Well into middle age, they're still obsessively analyzing adventure stories for children. They're childless, unmarried, stubbornly avoiding an actual profession, opting instead to beg for Patreon donations. They are subsisting on the patronage of even more embittered, more lonely, more cynical losers who need virtual friends to swim in their vast Petri dish of misery with them.

Look in their fucking eyes, man. It's a joyless, pointless existence they're living.

They are so afraid of sincerity or honest artistic effort that they'll leave behind hours of footage of them chuckling about Tommy Wiseau. They are artistic cowards and abject failures in every respect.

Each time you catch a glimpse of them, you're reminded that we peaked as a civilization a long time ago. We're done creating. We're done feeling real emotions. All we can do now is analyze, criticize, and ironically pick through the dessicated corpse of our once great nation.

It's simple.

Mike Stoklasa has become the very thing he once ridiculed. Look at the Avatar review for instance; he spends 90 minutes going on about Cameron's blatant pandering to the lowest common denominator, marveling (no pun intended) at Cameron's proficiency for manipulating the audience to make them feel how he wants them to feel, how he wants them to think.

Fast forward a couple of years later. Jurassic World is released – its heavily established to be a soft reboot operating on the hype of faux-nostalgia and Pratt's recent Guardians of the Galaxy success.

Mike loves it. Hits all the right buttons. Really gets his inner manchild going. He basically reveres the film to Jay Bauman's utter disgust.

This is the first sign of Stoklasa's downfall, his immediate descent into the anti-thesis of Mr. Plinkett. He's become lazy, brainwashed, unwittingly indoctrinated into the modern Hollywood machine sculpted by the likes of Disney executives.

It's October 2015. Disney gets in touch with Red Letter Media. They offer him a deal he simply can't refuse; he's instructed to praise Disney's numbered Star Wars episodes while taking critical albeit nonsensical liberties with the standalone films, all the while consistently spewing a casual commitment to every Marvel film that is released. Mike and his goons are heavily compensated for this, successfully turning the likes of the internet's pseuds into DDs (Disney Dudes).

The real enemy isn't Collider, or Loot Crate boxes.

It's Mike Stoklasa.

Jay Bauman? Is that you?

Jay, I can't and won't make this any simpler for you.

You failed at life. You failed. When one thinks of what man is capable of, pushing himself to the limits physically, mentally and emotionally to achieve heights of success never before mentioned, your name will not be whispered in the same, reverent fashion that others have.

Nobody will remember Jay Bauman. You aren't even a header or a footer in the career of someone else. You are nobody. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

In short, you are an enormous failure.

Jay, being that you're about 30 years old and your brain has probably hard-wired itself to accept such failures by now and write off such criticism by being "flippant", really suggests that you've passed beyond the proverbial breaking-point. There's no turning back. This is your career, this is what defines you and this is what you'll defend to the end.

The abhorrent failure that is Red Letter Media, Jay Bauman, that is your legacy.

Maybe I'm over-reaching, however. Who knows? People CAN change. Maybe you'll read this, Jay, and think long and hard about what a wasteful life you've led. Maybe you'll think, "wow. It's incredible just how abysmal and pathetic I really AM!" Maybe you'll lift some weights in the morning. Maybe you'll take a self-help class.

Maybe in a couple of years, Jay, you'll have learned from this failure. I doubt it, though.

I genuinely doubt it.

 No.84938

>In his first hundred days in office, President Daniel Strunk rolled back reforms passed over decades of previous administrations; he branded all media that did not confirm to his version of truth as ‘Fake News’, and signed Executive Orders to force through the most contentious of legislation without oversight.

>He was, to all but his most ardent supporters, of whom there were many, the very worst traits of humankind bound up in a single fleshsuit.

>Many thought that he was such a grotesque caricature, so exaggerated in his mannerisms, he could not possibly be real. It must be some sort of elaborate hoax. That the punchline would be coming any day now.

>Others said, ‘You couldn’t make this shit up.’

>Strunk was armoured against the mainstream media. The people no longer trusted their ‘fake news’. He remained unfazed by the outcry of scientists, politicians and Nobel Prize winners. The people were fed up with experts. His celebrity shone like chainmail.

>But when it came to celebrity, he cast a very small shadow when set against a genuinely popular icon, who would not be silenced. And ML Montague had that in spades.

>They duelled using the President’s weapon of choice: the inter-continental ballistic tweet.

>The dragon was slow-witted, his reptile brain merely dredged up whatever fleetingly crossed his mind as he channel-surfed extremist news stations and regurgitated soundbites. He had eaten his last speech writer. His opponent was a skilled wordsmith who had made a fortune from the worlds inside her head. Each barbed witticism was a rapier that slid between the dragon’s scales.

>The dragon did not stand a chance. He blamed the politicians, and claimed he could be trusted because he was not one of them. He spoke plainly, in the language of the ignorant, for he was fluent in it. But his gambit was flawed. Even for his fan base, things were getting worse. And Montague was quick to show them how.

>Once Montague had revealed the Emperor had no clothes, skewered him so savagely that even his most ardent supporters could not look away, Strunkomania evaporated.

This is a real excerpt from a published Faction Paradox book. M.L. Montague is a stand-in for J.K. Rowling.

>I would say, that if you’re talking about a line of progress, if it can be called progress, that runs from Berthold Brecht’s Threepenny Opera, to Donald Cammell’s Performance, to Harry Potter, I don’t think you can really see that as anything but a decline. I will also point out that if you’ve got, I believe twenty percent of young people polled said that they would be embarrassed if their mates caught them reading. That would seem to me to be a decline, and also I would say that if you’ve got the Avengers movie as one of the most eagerly attended recent movies, and if most of those attendees were adults, which I believe they were, then if you’ve got a huge number of contemporary adults going to watch a film containing characters and storylines that were meant for the entertainment of eleven year old boys fifty years ago, then I’ve got to say, there’s something badly wrong there, isn’t there?

I think where he's really off base is singling out the stuff that's aesthetically 'kiddy' like Harry Potter or the MCU, when in fact the sanded-down perceptions of life/humanity/ethics/the world/etc. which saturate those franchises also proliferate in stuff that's nominally for adults. We have a (possibly manufactured) addiction to infantile shit and corporations who love to provide it.

also reminder that Alan's version of Harry Potter in the League of Extraordinary Genlemen is the literal antichrist, went insane and massacred Hogwarts, shoots lightning bolts from his willy, and was eventually put down by Mary Poppins, who is apparently the god of all good children's fiction.

Apparently according to the original books this stern and quietly powerful version of Mary Poppins is completely in-character. Sounds a lot more interesting than what we got in that movie everyone's more familiar with these days.

To me where he's really fucked up is that he doesnt seem to understand that there has always been "highbrow" and "lowbrow" entertainment. He's singling out great stuff from the past and singling out stuff from the present that boils down to the common denominator of popularity.

I could counter Alan moore, and say that years ago, everyone was watching Monty Python and Airplane!, but now we're watching things like Arrival. I'd call that progression in terms of how thought provoking films are. But like Alan Moore, I'd be cherry picking. There's nothing wrong with liking something dumb, not everything has to be fucking shakespeare. Even Shakespeare's plays were full of toilet humour and dick jokes.

I guarantee that at every point in history there has been art, and there has been more lowbrow entertainment. Someone could point at Beethoven and Nicki Minaj, and claim that music has declined. But then, in Beethoven's time, I guarantee you there were also a thousand village musicians making up shitty songs about fuck all. and 90% of people wouldnt have had the money to hear beethoven's music, but would have had the money to go down to the pub, and hear mad jim sing his testicle song

>Arrival better than Airplane!

>Arrival better than fucking Monty Python

it would have made a decent half-hour episode of some low-budget sci-fi show like the Outer Limits that would take the timey-wimey concept and push it to the limit by trying to find any way it could to push the audience's buttons

instead we got a two-hour long slog through the mist of gloom which dropped any pretense of being about communicating with aliens halfway through and replaced it with a godawful student-film tier sob story that's supposed to show us how "deep" the time-bullshit is because it's "relatable". it isn't interested in actually exploring how a human would react if they could see through time, it only does enough to tie things up in a neat little bow so people see something familiar enough to know that they're watching a 'proper' film about 'proper' characters that have 'proper' feelings (gloom and doom), and that's how you know they did the sci-fi stuff 'properly', like for grownups.

the "cerebral" sci fi renaissance was an enormous fucking mistake. if it's advertised as "proper science fiction", and has cliche minimalist 2001-style visuals because "it's really about the ideas, and we don't know what aliens could really look like, so we shouldn't try too hard because it's more accurate that way", it probably means the people behind it are trying to compensate for their complete lack of imagination.

/who/ BOOK CLUB - SHIT TRIPS: VOLUME 2.5

PUBLISHED AUTHOR EDITION

=====

Did you know there is a Shit Trips contributor who has written official, published Erimem™ content? This is undoubtedly the biggest crossover between /who/ and the world of Printed Canon since a letter from Frank Offerino was published in Doctor Who Magazine. This week he contributes an actual Erimem story, so now you can learn what all the hype around canon is about. You might also remember him from Volume 2's Eye of the Beholder and Fridging.

Also this is the first time in this book club that we've had two framing story chapters in one day. Intriguing.

Question: you take a broom, you replace the handle, and then later you replace the brush. And you do that, over and over again. Is it still the same broom? Answer: no, of course it isn’t, but you can still sweep the floor. (Which is not strictly relevant: skip that last part.) You have replaced every piece of yourself, mechanical and organic, time and time again. There’s not a trace of the original you left. You probably can’t even remember where you got that face from.

 No.85292

Okay, so it's pretty evident /who/ is shit now and almost every anon agrees. But I've found a solution. There are a few steps as to how we actually salvage this shithole.

>Rename /who/ to /dwg/ - Doctor Who General

It's clear to see that the /who/ name is now permanently associated with shitposting and memes. Bringing a new identity will stop this. I'm not saying get rid of the memes entirely, but perhaps make new memes more related to discussion topics.

>Stop all "meme" thread headers.

Instead, I suggest we focus them on discussion, posing them with a question or a talking point. Maybe we could have episode editions right from An Unearthly Child up until today. In addition, we could append this to thread headers to get newbies to follow our new etiquette.

>Make threads focused on Doctor Who.

/who/ should be about Doctor Who (/dwg/ moreso, another reason to change the name), and it should not be a personal blog for discussing your life, nor should it be a place to discuss Star Wars. There are many, many other places to talk about those things - the countless Star Wars threads on /tv/, and /soc/ for socializing.

>Remove all the trips.

Even if a few people filter the trips, there will still be a majority of people who see their posts and discuss them, making them a net loss for /dwg/. The best way would be to make them so uncomfortable that they have to leave. Yes, it might f*ck up a few threads in the process but it will be worth it in the long run to have a drama-free environment.

>Close down the stream.

All the stream does for this place is bring even more identity drama. I don't think you can make streams anonymous, so the best way to stop it would be to remove the association or the stream itself.

>Stop posting links to the wiki.

The wiki is another one of those things which is so closely associated with the /who/ identity that it's nothing but drama. Just remove the 4chan association and make it a separate thing that all the tripfags and memers can go to.

Imagine what any of this would have actually done to improve /who/ if we had done any of it? All of these suggestions were superficial trash that didnt change the fact that /who/ was on a board filled with shit, so of course threads were going downhill.

Consider series 2, but Tennant kept the accent and, had a brash and sometimes harmful personality to the point that you question his morality, and the Doctor & Rose's love for each other reached breaking point largely because of this.

Moff rewrote series 2 and made it good.
