All qualified users may register up to 100 domains directly under .no and five additional domains under each second-level domain.[26]

>The priv.no domain is available for registration by individuals. To register, an individual must be registered in the National Registry and have been issued a national identity number, must be resident in Norway and be at least 18 years old. We've had a couple of teasers/trailers and a handful of leaks. It's not as though info has been completely wiped out. What could be said, has been said. It's just that there hasn't been anything particularly memorable. Some might say that the marketing has meme'd itself. Even Shit Trips hasn't gotten much pull this time around, which confuses me.

*i suspect the stream is actually where much of the on-topic conversation is happening. which works great if you're a streambro, but it means if you stay only in-threads, then much of what you see is memes. Many variations on the same memes, actually.

To be fair this volume of shit trips is completely outside of the realm of what's come before. OC doctors and the like for the most part. It's pretty high concept and deep into the EU territory which not everyone has experienced and had access to. The shitposting has always been pretty meta, and also tbf that's why people come to /who/, not on topic discussion as they can do that literally anywhere else.

But two things to keep in mind: your username and password should remain the same, and the new place will be "bare bones" (very template-like) at first, missing a lot of the customization that we've implemented over the years here, including custom smilies, custom BBcode, and other things that even I may not be aware of until we all realize they're missing. Some of you will have to choose new avatars (and not all forum-provided avatars are likely to be available right away). Just be patient and things will gradually get into shape. I'd like to thank you all for your patience. Onward.

Agreed, but there's usually a balance.

You know, a good example is the "Doctor is a pillar of light" comment. I've seen a lot of people mocking that phrase, which sure, it is a little corny, but not anyone sticking up for a phrase as a sincere statement of positivity. I don't mind the meming, but where's the counterpoint?

You really shouldn't come to an extension of 4chan looking for positivity. It's never been a beacon of sunshine and moonbeams, so I think you really should temper your expectations. I don't have much of an opinion on the pillar of light thing myself, than it should be a given or an already made assumption that remained unspoken. It is corny and expecting what's mostly edgy mental teenagers to applaud that is asking a bit much.

It's pretty intuitive to anyone who's touched a girl that their skin feels different than a boy's, and that is backed up with scientific data (estrogen creates extra padding right under the skin through increasing subcutaneous fat deposition, which leads naturally pads over veins, tendons, musculature, etc., this goes for transwomen taking estrogen externally as well as ciswomen, in either case it essentially makes their skin feel softer/smoother, and this extends to genitals).

GET HYPE

>Simon & Schuster UK are to publish Christopher Eccleston’s memoir, detailing the Ninth Doctor's acting career as well as the impact of dementia on his family.

The book, I Love the Bones of You, will detail the actor's life, growing up in working-class Salford, brought up to be 'factory fodder' in the north-west. He will talk about his desire to perform which led him to his film debut playing Derek Bentley in the 1991 film Let Him Have It

He will talk about his breakthrough role in the BBC drama series Our Friends in the North and his time as The Doctor when Doctor Who was relaunched in 2005.

Eccleston will also discuss the loss of his father, who suffered from dementia and describe the struggles his family had to cope with the condition over the past decade of his father's life.

Class's finale is a rare example of a show that had already gone full JUST deciding to JUST itself even more completely, right at the end of the run/the verge of cancellation. It is pure unintentional comedy, how much shit it just throws in the air with no idea of how to possibly catch it later. An absolute scorched earth policy. I think Ness was trying to encourage the BBC to continue it by shaking up the premise, but ended up ensuring it would never, ever get a second season.

There is one good thing in it, though, which is that they resolve the "should I commit genocide?" back-and-forth by just doing the genocide, complete with traumatic outcome. I always appreciated that.

…Yes? For the audience, she's an icon of representation as a character who normally would just be default male, but within the scripts, her actions are done without reference to gender.

>>94020

>>94026

We are never going to have the Doctor be played by a woman for a first time again. There is never going to be as prime an opportunity to in-narrative actually explore the endless potential 13 being played by Jodie Whittaker affords the writers. After a stint of 12 Doctors being played by men, now is hardly the time to handwave all that into some vague sense of "the Doctor transcends genre so 13 being played by a woman is no big deal really!"; capitulating to that line of thought goes against the pride Whittaker and Chibnall rightly feel in having made the genuinely progressive and dynamic move of unholstering the default maleness of the role. Not making any real point of 13's gender and essentially making her "indistinguishable" from past Doctors in that regard is not some enlightened move of transcending gender politics, it's literally conservative, regressing and giving credos to that default male stance as if it really was just coincidence the first 12 Doctors were played by men. It wasn't, and ignoring that doesn't make the show more woke, it does the opposite. There is never going to be another opportunity for the show's first female Doctor to have scripts that deploy the limitless creative and social potential of how genuinely progressive that casting is.

Isn't what makes a "women Doctor" so radical is that actually, she shouldn't be a "woman Doctor", she's just a Doctor. The previous Doctors are "men Doctors", they are just "Doctors."

What would that look like? The real question is, would the Doctor care about "gender and identity", anymore than she cared in previous bodies?

To be fair, Moffat tried to undercut it with the "Time Lord" joke right after. But that's just the way Moffat sort of coded the Doctor as a patriarchal man learning his faults.

But overall, the Doctor overall doesn't seem bothered by his gender or identity. The Doctor doesn't seem to think of themselves as a "man" or even a "human". To harp on being a "woman", or think about it deeply, would seem off.

 No.94046

>>94037

I'd hire a lot of female writers for a start and have a lot of tone meetings on what sort of different perspectives could be had from the character now. The Doctor has been male for thousands of years and the only way to discredit that meaning anything is through the same kind of uninformed apoliticism that pretends a status quo doesn't have any meaning or intent of its own, that replicating existing structures somehow doesn't mean anything.

>Isn't what makes a "women Doctor" so radical is that actually, she shouldn't be a "woman Doctor", she's just a Doctor. The previous Doctors are "men Doctors", they are just "Doctors."

There is nothing radical about that. This is the Magic Mike of Doctor Who writing; film men lustfully with the male gaze in a film targeted women, and that somehow represents a meaningful shift in cinema, right? Making 13 indistinguishable from the past 12 Doctors in gender-related matters doesn't make her special and enlightened in transcending gender politics, it just continues to reinforce the same concepts and structures that saw men play the part every time previously. It was not a coincidence it took this long for the Doctor to be a women, and thinking like "the previous Doctors aren't 'men Doctors', they are just Doctors" is a huge part of that. They were all men. They were written as men. There is no universe where they were not coded as men. It took this long for the Doctor to be played by a woman, and that means something. Making nothing of that is creatively bankrupt at best, and spineless at worst. The Doctor is not real and it's useless to talk about the character from an in-universe aspect in this regard; he has always been shaped primarily by men, performed by men, maleness is tied up in every level of the character. Lacking hypermasculinity doesn't somehow undo this. The Doctor being played by a woman is a genuine, seismic shift in the show and for a show with more than half a century under its belt, something genuinely new that merits exploring, not shrugging at, and actively dismissing to the point of commissioning scripts that actively ignore it.

He was shaped by a Jewish woman, and a gay man. Right beside him was Barbara, a strong character in her own right. You're ignoring the actual progressive elements baked into the show's start.

But real life women did appreciate those movies, and that was a good shift in cinema. I think Magic Mike is a very good thing, as it's directly the opposite of what a straight white man would consider good to film, so this "gotcha" doesn't work.

Except he's ignoring Verity and Sydney Newman. Worse, he's saying "curious, eccentric explorer with strong moral core" is straight-up a male-coded trait, when one of the strengths of the Doctor is that he's a male character with female-coded traits (not using brawn, preferring nonviolence, focus on having companionship). Don't be so taken by this argument that Neo has.

The show did not meaningful progress from that starting point of progressiveness, it actively regressed if anything, and there is nothing less radical than that. Searching for the rarities of non-male influence in the series isn't an act of progressively reclaiming the show and asserting any sort of progressive moral core to it, it's instead after-the-fact rationalisation of how overwhelmingly singular the vision of the show has been for over half a century. We both know it's not insignificant it took literally fifty-four years for a black person to write an episode of the show. We do not have to be happy with scraps.

>>94054

My point is structural - Magic Mike used cinematic techniques inseparable from maleness to objectify its men. Its lust-inducement for women is inextricably tied up in male thought. It was directed by a man, filmed like a man, primarily made by men, it is male to the core. It appealed to women and that's great, but it was not a meaningful pioneering of female-centric cinematic techniques - female gaze is not just turning male gaze onto men.

Magic Mike XXL is also directed by a man and uses the same cinematic techniques. The female gaze is a term for the ways feminine filmmakers communicate their vision specifically through their medium; it's a thorny term because in drawing itself as directly parallel to the male gaze it falls into the trap of implying such a method of expression would fall entirely under visual depiction. If you watch the 1971 version of The Beguiled, directed by a man, then watch the 2017 version directed by Sofia Coppola you will see the same story brought to life by two directors with some broad stylistic similarities but obviously huge differences born of their identities and experiences - the way their films respectively portray women (not just in the clearest visual sense) evinces the kind of distinctions we're talking about here.

As for what should change, as two men who eagerly gorge ourselves on decades upon decades of Doctor Who content primarily shaped by, and directly written by, men, we are not the best to say. That's where getting new blood brought in really becomes key. As well as a man can write a woman, he cannot be a woman. Any version of the Doctor that's imagined from the ground up as influenced by women's experiences and ideas is going to be different from the doctor written exactly as he has been for the past 50+ years now, and there has never been a more fitting call to action to change that than there is now a woman has been cast in the role. But instead, we have that woman's scripts having been literally written as for a man instead. Chibnall has been promising change, but that does not sound like change to me.

I've read over your words again, and I think I get your argument a bit better. I still have a question, though.

>. They were all men. They were written as men. There is no universe where they were not coded as men. It took this long for the Doctor to be played by a woman, and that means something.

What does it mean to be written "as a man"? Are you trying to say 6,7, or 8 wouldn't have worked played by a woman? If so, why? And also, One through Twelve have been a wide range of characters. Are you saying that, despite that wide range, that each had an ineffable "maleness" about the way they were made?

>I'd hire a lot of female writers for a start and have a lot of tone meetings on what sort of different perspectives could be had from the character now.

I think this is part of your answer, but now you're saying women by default have different "woman" perspectives. I agree they do based on experience, but…are you saying the Doctor's always had a "man" perspective?
