[WORK IN PROGRESS]

Objective

Test the capabilities of the technique we will call manifestation though visualization. We aim to determine whether the technique is useful or not, and attempt to gauge its efficacy in relation to certain parameters. If successful, we will later attempt to refine the technique itself and better identify the parameters which effect it the most.

Method

We will collectively and routinely visualize rainfall over a populated desert (to be decided later) over a period of a week (also to be decided after gaining interest). We should do our best to have at least 250 people for this, though we need to know within reasonable accuracy how many people are participating, and a few details about their magick experience, concentration, mental state, etc. Every participant should fill out a questionnaire so we can quantify the results.

Important: you should not use any other form of magick for this because it will give misleading results.

Specifics on the Technique

Manifestation through visualization can be likened to meditation. In essence, it involves concentration on a visual image to represent a desired outcome.

The user should position themselves comfortably, close their eyes, and create a depiction of the event in their head. Breathe at a constant rate and feel the sensation of energy forming inside your body. Feel the energy being drawn into you from your surroundings. Focus and direct the energy towards the image.

Questionnaire Draft

Do not answer yet - this will eventually be transferred to a poll.

Things we want to measure:

Intelligence

Focus

Mental health

Belief

Any feedback or expression of interest is appreciated.

I think the best course of action would be to focus on a rain event that could plausibly be assumed to not be chance. In that regard the immediate area around Death Valley California would be a perfect spot. Enough so that it causes flooding in death valley and flash flooding of waters made corrosive by the salt content of the valley. But not a drop that would help the califagnians.

On the questionnaire, I believe that the question of books should be expanded upon and include what type of books that are read. Fiction readers may have an easier time than strictly non fiction. Or it may be vice versa.

Also we should add a question on the posters physical condition. The statement "a sound mind exists within a sound body" may hold water here

Thought I had posted this earlier but I guess not here are some pictures of Death Valley

Let me post cripple!

Discussion in the 'standard meme model' thread says that the more improbable a meme is, the more power is required.

[RE: Baneposting]

>It is possible that global thought of plane crashes contributed to this, or even the fact that there were plane crashes 'normalized' it to a certain extent, making it less of an extreme change to reality to add one more. If we think of 'the casting requirement' for memes at least partly in terms of how unlikely the circumstances it creates are, this makes a lot of sense.

It's tricky. If we choose something unlikely like a desert, we can be more confident that we are right, but we also may be 'understaffed'.

Maybe we should have a few iterations. First try the desert, then work our way down if necessary.

That's a good point. Book genre should be included.

I've updated the questionnaire to the suggestions ITT.

I also added age and gender. I may switch age answers to be brackets, rather than your actual age to help protect anonymity. Obviously more data is better, but age probably isn't a factor that is sensitive enough to require precise numbers for analysis.

I think the way to submit will be that we make a special thread for it, and people post their answers 1 line at a time. I'll write a script to scrape answers so I can feed it into R.

Secondly, I've thought about the location we're going to do this in. >>17 has suggested a dry area so the effect is more noticeable. What we really need is a place that has accurate and frequent rain measurements. Monthly would be good. Fortnightly would be great. Weekly would be excellent. The area should also have a relatively consistent amount of rainfall. Not necessarily consistent all year round, but consistent year-by-year. By that I mean the March (for example) rainfall should be fairly similar for most years. The closer the better. The lower variability, the more likely we are going to find results.

That is by far the most important thing because I need to be able to look at the difference in rainfall and see if it's scientifically significant.

Another thought is that it would be good if the area had a fair amount of photos on the internet, so we could more easily visualize it. I think over the week leading up to when we start visualizing, people should familiarize themselves with the area with google maps, streetview, and photos.

I'll do some research and pick a spot in the next couple weeks.

I hope to start collecting recruits soon, but I want to have the questionnaire done first.
