Rules can be easily observed at
http://8chan.co/dolls/rules.html
Hopefully I won't have to add too many more but we will see
I originally thought about making a BJD-only board but there isn't
a: enough content that one board cannot handle
b: there is far too much overlap with other doll collectors
and the main issue with DoA is it doesn't allow any off topic discussion - many collectors who collect Dollfie Dreams also collect Pullip, etc.

I suggest making your own General and keeping it in there, but I won't be enforcing it too hard short of spamming or obvious posts that were posted in the wrong place.

Also: this board has flood detection after two posts, this is mitigated by the fact that a single post can post up to five images.

So, the other day I took off my dolls wig and swapped it with my other wig, but took a look underneath her wig cap (its one of those plastic (not sure if its plastic or latex or what) clear types) and noticed a big blue stain ring around her entire head

I only own one dollfie and im really a newbie, and don't really know any other dollfie owners i can turn to either, please, is someone still lurking this board who can help?

I have no idea how the blue stain got there from the wig cap, her other wig fits more snug so i took off the cap for now, thankfully its invisible under all her hair

How can I clean it?

I tried mr.clean magic eraser, it didn't remove it at all

Anyone knows where (on which site) can I buy some cute dolls? It is important that they must ship worldwide, or at least in the EU, as I live in Hungary, and I want to have some really cute dolls as decoration/"company" in my house. Ohh, and it would be great if I could buy dolls for a reasonable price. Say, in under $100 (roughly 28.000 HUF). Or, if you live in Hungary also, you can tell me if I can buy one in a local shop, or on that shop's website. Thanks for the answer!

Oscar eyes have a pre-order up till March 8. As I own a few pairs, I feel confident recommending them. Their english is very poor, but they are completely helpful.

Migidoll has a cute doll sets for order.

Little Monica has a very pretty girl up for sale now/soon.

Mattel has some nice Frozen dolls coming up, but don't hold your breath on the quality compared to the promos. Usually I find when Disney handles it themselves, it turns out better…but I could be wrong.

So there's two of these in my area coming up (Resin Rose and PNW Expo). Do you guys enjoy cons or shows, and what kind of things do you like to see at them?

 No.202

also I've taken Suiseiseki with me to a con, while cosplaying Jun, was fun.

Sadly I missed dollAkon which is pretty big doll gathering within another con, as I did not yet have Suiseiseki last akon, maybe if theres some doll groupings up north, but one guy I ran into who recognized my doll was REALLY creepy at the last con ;u;

 No.206

I haven't taken my dolls to normal cons, just to doll shows. Usually take whatever doll I'm trying to shop for, unless there's some people I'm meeting with who particularly like one of my dolls (my one friend LOVES my DD and always asks me to bring her). One thing that always drives me nuts though is the people who bring wagons or strollers full of dolls. The wagons especially because they're always hanging off it and dragging it behind without watching where it is. It gets in the way, it catches on stuff, and it always makes me nervous as fuck to see all those dolls that they're not even keeping an eye on just left open. No need to bring your whole collection with you all the time.

What kind of classes do you guys like to see at doll cons? I really want to get into a photography one. Also I came from the dollhouse hobby before this and one thing the dollhouse shows like to do is "roundtable projects", which would be a neat concept for dolls. Its basically a simple and inexpensive craft kit set up at a table with one person supervising, and anyone can stop by through the day, purchase one, and put it together. Usually they're like half-hour projects and cost under $20. Something like papercraft props, small accessories or hats would be cool.

 No.209

I've been to a japanese doll convention. I got to meet the maker of Kiki (kinoko juice) and man, it was great fun. Got some fantastic doll stuff. I went to the volks closing store event but I don't think that counts. I think that was a little bit of a letdown.

Photography ones and faceup stuff probably. I think those are some of the hardest stuff to pull off in this hobby.

How does one go about collecting such dolls? Do you just search online like on eBay or is there a specific maker that is best to purchase from? Also, anything I should look for when it comes to these?

 No.223

Are you talking about actual antiques, or the Victorian styled porcelain collectible ones?
If its antiques I'd suggest getting a few collectors guides for reference. You can get older ones off Amazon for very cheap, which will at least help you figure out which makers you like.
If its the modern collectible ones, I can't really think of how to help you. I'd think there's collector sites for them that would know more (I know theres a doll subreddit) and maybe some kind of doll clubs local to you that would know more.

I recently got into these because I ended up inheriting an old bisque doll from a relative and have spent some time restoring her. The best manner usually is through rubylane. Stay away from ebay unless you are well versed into which dolls are which, as people scalp dolls that are not worth much. Not to say you can't get good deals there, but you are more likely to get what you are looking for on rubylane.

I'm guessing OP is meaning true Ball Jointed Dolls that BJD were based off of - Bebe dolls, Bisque dolls, image related?

I know this wouldn't really fly on a faster board, but since it's slow here, figured I'd post.
If it's not, just ignore me.
Anyway, I've been slowly getting interested in bjds, but hesitating because lolita is eating up all my money, and I have no idea where to start.
So do you have any tips for a beginner? Are there any things I should avoid buying/doing? Things you wish you knew when you started?

DoA wiki never seems to get updated lol.

There isn't any one particular site that I know of. You either slog around for hours or ask someone for advice for looking for particular items (and maybe cost range) or spend a lot of time doing it yourself. I think there might be some sites that might list however many doll sites there are out there, but there are probably well a few thousand now, some around, some not, some dolls easy to get on secondhand, some not.

Sorry for the slow reply.

I'm still not completely certain on what I would like to own, especially size-wise. Really I was just thinking a male doll but otherwise I'm just looking around for inspiration to see what takes my fancy (obviously not just going to buy anything I like but looking around to figure out what I want).

 No.222

Honestly I think MSD might be one of the better sizes to go with for a new person. You can go child-like or relatively mature (like Minifees or JIDs), the clothing is pretty plentiful, its easier to find furniture in scale since MSDs look pretty decent with American Girl scaled things, and they're not too much larger than dolls that can be found in stores so there isn't that size-shock.

Help please!
I got my Sui a new wig for christmas, pics in the other thread, but its already kindof frizzy, here's the wig I got btw:
http://www.leekeworld.com/En/Product/p_view.asp?it_code=517&B_catalog_num=21

How do I properly brush her hair? Im at a loss, any attempts to brush her hair just make it MORE FRIZZY, and risks ruining the curls too, the thought of which scares me, please somebody help, I have no idea what im doing when it comes to dollfiehair brushing
I have a toothbrush, and a doll hair brush, ready to go

 No.190

Hey there! First off, thank god 8chan is back.

Doll hair cannot be cared for like human hair. Unlike human hair, dolls rarely need brushing or any sort of maintenence, however play often causes wigs to frizz out or other issues occur.

This post is probably going to be retardedly long because I get questions about my dolls wigs all the time about IE: curls. I can make up a how-to-do image if people are really curious, but I can link a few places.

First things first, the doll hair brush may or may not be useful. Its probably absolutely useless on curly hair. You are good with the toothbrush, but often I thin out the hairs on the toothbrush in order to 'fold in' hairs that are being pains in the butts sort of like folding in say, dough when making pie.
for hairs that get 'crimped' (ie, at a 45 degree angle, or more extreme, or are sticking up from the center part) often cannot be saved, especially if they are broken. I gently trim these few hairs off with a pair of nail scissors.

Synthetic wigs (especially wigs made from Kanekalon) are susceptible to static. Best thing for this is 1 part fabric softener to 3 parts DISTILLED water. If you use tap water and your water is hard, it can build up deposits and water spots on your dolls hair, and it will be a pain in the ass to get off. You should NEVER spray any product directly onto your dolls face. It will be a pain in the ass to get off, and dolls that are not sealed properly - well, I take off the wig beforehand for extreme styling, and then use a towel under the doll for quick touch ups. Think about the consideration your barber takes for your shoulders and face when you get a haircut, same thing.

NEVER USE OILS ON SYNTHETIC DOLL HAIR. IT WILL DAMAGE THE STRANDS.

A ton of hair products for humans contain oils, especially products that tout 'moisturizing' consequently, often cheaper products (ones that dont have oils and are all synthetics, filled with silicones (dimethicone) are often best for wigs.

Thank you for the advice.
Ill try to stick with the toothbrush

I will have to try this fabric softener trick, and will avoid tap water. Any recommended brand?

Also pictured is her hair, as you can see, it's not horribly frizzed so bad i need to start from the top thank god, what advice do you have for brushing hair already styled in place?

I hope I don't have to undo and redo the curls, that would be the worst.

There are a few more frizzed up loose hairs now, would my best bet be to trim these down with a clipper as mentioned?

 No.192

>>191
no, you don't need to undo them. I would try wetting your hands with the distilled water and trying to "twist" with your hands the hairs back into the direction of the curls. The hairs will be inclined to go back to where they were, they just need to be coaxed in.
As for fabric softener, any brand goes - get something you can stand the smell of.
That one hair that seems to be sticking out of the top of the scalp - if that hair is shorter (its hard to tell from the photo) that can be easily trimmed down and won't cause issues.

I usually get two-packs of toothbrushes in soft, one to thin out and one not to, combined with your hands and the spray, you should be able to separate each curl and gently 'comb/fold in' the hairs and twist them back into place. When the hairs are wet and sans static you should find it easier to coax them into the direction they were styled into.

 No.193

>>192
im going to have to pick up some distilled water.

Is it odd my hands feel like theres some sort of greese or something on them after ive handeled her hair for a whil? it feels like some sort of synthetic greese

liquid fabric softener i presume?

also what about knots in the hair? I always find little knots where the hairs tangled up together, its not really noticeable until you are brushing it

 No.194

>>193
What you're feeling is silicone. Its very slippery and 'greasy' but absolutely harmless. It will wash off your hands with dishsoap.

yes, liquid.

As for the knots, perfectly normal, as long as they don't get out of control they won't cause any issues. Try to gently untangle them with your hands by gently pulling in all directions if your comb can't blow through them, or if they are tiny and not being visibly shown in the style, they won't harm it one bit. Doll hair is more often about how it looks than being perfect if that makes sense.
