Best answer in the thread

Reading this will get you on the right track. Any of the heroes listed will be simple enough to learn. Breaking them down by the role you will probably play them in:

Hard "I Buy Wards" Support:
Venomancer, Lion, Vengeful Spirit, Ogre Magi, Crystal Maiden, With Doctor, Lich, Warlock

"Blink Dagger" Initiator:
Centaur, Sank King, Tidehunter

"Kill Creeps Erry Day" Carry:
Chaos Knight, Wraith King (Formerly known as Skeleton) King, Sven, Slardar

Of course, this is not the only role these heroes can be played in, but this is probably the way you will play them.

There are in-game builds that can be used to help you get started with these heroes. If you haven't played any ASSFAGGOTS extensively, play bot matches with only bots on your team for a few weeks before you queue for bot matches with real players on your team for about another week. If you have played ASSFAGGOTS before, you can probably get away with playing bot matches for only one or two weeks before queuing a real match. I recommend avoiding real matches for a while because if you start in real matches, you will be flamed hard for making a lot of mistakes. "The Bots will not rage at you, they won’t care if you feed. They will teach you the heroes by destroying you with them, and no one has to know."

Just thought of another bit of advice. When you first start playing, do not play this with friends that have been playing longer than you. They will just get mad at you and/or teach you bad habits. I also would recommend avoid starting to play with friends who are also new since they will probably just reenforce bad play, but that is a less severe transgression.

so basically don't play with your friends at all

When you first start playing, yeah. If they are better than you they will be really critical and you won't have fun. If they are also starting off, you will start playing off of each others bad habits ("dude always buy force staff on Bloodseeker it is so good!"). The later transgression is no where near as great as the first, but I would avoid both. This is just my advice, do whatever you want.

dota is a team game, and as such should be played with a team.
DO NOT PLAY ALONE
Especially if you are trying to have fun, and especially if you are trying to improve, and especially if you just want to win, and especially if you don't speak french, russian, spanish, and HUEHUE
dota can easily ruin friendships.
improving goes faster when you play with people who are better than you.
having fun is easier when you play with people at your level.
do look for a mentor, who is generous enough to focus his attention on helping you improve. he can be a friend, but unless you have skin as thick as an elephant, it can hurt. ideally, they are someone you don't have a lot of time invested in.
do look for playmates, they are friendly people who you don't know, but are down for a game whenever. nourish these into friendships as you deem fit. over time your time with the mentor will rub over on them, and you can grow this into a steady group of teammates.

when playing with friends: suggest playing something else than standard games, such as all-random deathmatch, or ability draft, as these don't feel like such an investment of peoples ego, due to their more random nature. if you have a good time for at least 2-3 games OR one game of you getting shitstomped, you can possibly move on to real games.
in dota, peoples ego are bound to get hurt when playing with other humans. critizism is a massive amplification of that.
if you are looking for a good time, dota can be heaven or hell. you can sort away some of the hell, but it requires a conscious effort. good luck.

Do the tutorial.

 No.458

Do the tutorial and follow the You Suck guide. After a week or two join a real game, but know you will get flamed a lot. Some of these guys will be assholes, but their reactions will help you learn what to do.

Also, you will not be pubhero for a while so accept that everyone will hate you for losing them games.

viper the netherdrake, when farming or conserving mana in early game, turn off poison attack, and when attacking enemy hero, just ulti and auto attack the shit out of enemy hero, its so easy.

plus 3rd skill will making it easier for u to survive

 No.537

Drow is also a very easy hero to play. My friend just started and he loves her. Just remember to right click your first skill (or press alt + q) to set it to autoattack. Use gust when they get too close. Other than that, all you have to do is farm and right click your enemies.

According to this you're a dumbass.

>>552 Hey now, you do not need only one button to play Wraith King. Sometimes you have to press the button to activate Armlet!

 No.825

Glad someone said it. I'd argue that Sven is the hardest Strength carry in the game. Two scaling abilities with an AOE stun/nuke that is useful in all stages of the game.
