Lich was the first hero I ever tried and hated him because I didn't understand any of the game mechanics. I then came back to it playing Veno and I began to enjoy the game. I only revisited Lich recently and I find him to be a very strong hero.

Lich was probably the second hero I tried (in Limited Heroes), and since I wasn't a complete fucktard and knew how to read, I completely crushed the lane I was in, and promptly bought Veil/Aghs and watched retards die.
I agree, he's definitely a strong pub hero, and has lots of competitive potential as well, maybe for the offlane against suicide lanes (for xp deny/frost armor tank).

The only way to truly play lich is to use the 3rd skill or the mana leech immediately when the creeps are in tower. That way, enemy heroes are deprived of xp. It's much more effective if you have someone on lane who pulls creeps to neutrals.
