New player here. Whenever I play mid, the other team always has either Sniper or Pudge. What heroes are best to counter-pick him? Every midlaner I've tried so far has been too slow or squishy to deal with him in the early/mid game, causing me to feed him and get reported by angry Russians.

 No.1625

My immediate response to pudge is to go clockwerk as a hard counter, or to go one of the celestial spirits to completely fuck with him.
The way clock counters pudge is damn insane. Usually you wouldn't want to be anywhere near him, but battery assault doesn't let him channel his ult, which is a large part of his purpose completely shut down.
The celestials all have lockdowns, I'd suggest getting gud at leasit with ember and storm, if you're not ready for best spirit yet.
Sniper's main advantage is the fact that he's a little bitch that stays behind everything. Just pick a hero that can close distances pretty easily and he should be no problem. Just don't tower dive for a sniper kill.

Pudge is fun as fuck to play, which is why he gets picked a lot.

>Always keep a healthy creep between the two of you. Imagine a line connecting between you and him and always keep a creep in that line. Remember that siege creeps cannot be hooked, so don't hide behind them.

>When going against a Pudge, I find it more useful to have a ward on the high ground of the enemy's side in mid lane, rather than one outside of your team's offlane. The offlane expects a shitty time in lane, but the middle lane is arguably the most important and cannot be lost. Ask your support(s) for a ward and explain why you want it. If nobody on your team buys wards, you should highly consider doing it to keep yourself safe.

>Predict the enemy Pudge's actions. Pudge's hook takes a small amount of time (up to about 0.3 seconds) to travel from him to you, so a good Pudge will always throw his hook just a little bit ahead of you in the direction you're moving. Make your own movements unpredictable by constantly moving back and forth whenever he's out of sight. If you're lucky, you can juke hooks without even trying. If you're quick enough, you can also consider buying a Blink Dagger or Force Staff to push yourself away from hooks that are already moving towards you. This will mitigate your issue of being heroes who aren't mobile enough.

>There are plenty of counterpicks for Pudge. As >>1625 said, Clockwerk is one, as well as the celestial spirits, who all have disables and long-distance escapes. Huskar and Lifestealer can easily tear down Pudge's high health and don't care much about the damage dealt from Rot and Dismember. Tanky heroes and heroes with escapes are generally less likely to be ganked by Pudge, because, obviously, they're harder to kill. Use this to your advantage.

>As a Pudge player myself, I know that Pudge HATES heroes with illusions, because illusions make it nearly impossible to land a hook on the real hero, even if you know which one is the real one. Chaos Knight, Naga Siren, Terrorblade, and, most of all, the Cancer Lancer all spell out trouble for even the best Pudge players. Because of Lancer's random chance of generating more illusions near him, even a friendly PL is Pudge's worst enemy.

>In terms of item choices, the obvious Hood of Defiance comes to mind, but if it will help against other enemies as well, a Linken's Sphere can very easily fix whatever issues you have with Pudge, since it completely blocks Dismember and has a shorter cooldown. Pudge doesn't have any other abilities to set off your Sphere, so he's royally fucked unless he goes out of his way to buy an item to break your sphere, which may already be too late.

If you can get good with puck he is a good counter pick, not to kill him, but just to avoid him. Run a couple matches with him and learn his dodges and timing and you will be a pudges nightmare. So long as you deny him creep farm aswell. But thats more so a advanced tactic. But if all else fails, fantom cancer is a good counter pick.
But keep in mind, pudge is a easy character to play. But a hard one to master. So very few good players run with him. Rely in your ability to outplay and out move him.

>Pudge is fun as fuck to play, which is why he gets picked a lot.

As someone that has over 2k games played, I'll never understand this. He's literally just there, along with a few others heroes, to attract your retarded "LE EPIC SICK 420 NO-SCOPE HOOKS!!!" kind of crowd. Kids in other words. Fucken retards

If you want to be of actual credit to your team, pick a Batrider. He can everything Pudge does but better. Puck is similar too.

>2k games played

Well you must be very proud of yourself.

Protip: Pudge can be much more helpful to a team when the player isn't trying to make a show out of their plays.

 No.1681

contrary to popular belief, pudge is not a good mid. any traditional mid hero should shit on pudge in lane. if you can last hit and ward his side of the river, theres really nothing stopping you from outfarming him. Do not fear pudge, just keep denying him farm and runes and gank his lane with a support buddy before 8 minutes.

This. You can do just about anything and win against pudge mid so long as you have the slightest disable.

>being upset they picked pudge

Literally the easiest hero to mash mid I can think of.

Sniper is annoying, but just pick Viper, Lina, or Skywrath.

I have been playing a good bit of Troll Warlord mid. And winning games I'm pretty sure I'd lose with any other hero in any other lane.
