How does the board feel about inhouses and such? I would love to play some inhouse games with you guys, but I don't know if there is enough interest.
Regardless this is now an inhouse general thread!
and if you have nothing to contribute, wallpapers!
No.2175
Inhouses were brought up in the sticky, but they never actually happened. I think just stacking up with members from the group is the best we're gonna have right now, unless you wanna remind Sova.
No.2177
Don't feel as though you necessarily need us to organize it.
You can make a lobby, invite people in the guild chat, or else make a post on here asking when people are free for an inhouse if you want a to be able to get 10 people a little more reliably.
If you'd like us to make a steam group announcement, ask here, or even ask one of us on steam. Just give us any relevant details.
That said, if you'd like us to get a little more involved in the organization, maybe have some 'responsible adults' on hand, that's also fine. Just don't make us do it because you're lazy.
No.2178
Inhouses haven't really gotten enough interest. We do need to play more shit together, though. If you open a party to the guild whenever I'm on we could play a few games.
No.2179
Maybe we'll just wait until the member base of 8chan is bigger, in the meanwhile, Dota 2 wallpapers!
No.2180
I don't think its unreasonable to think that you could get 5 people at least together, play some 5stack games. That's a start. Get to know the other members, we're not that big a community.
I've seen 20+ people in the guild chat at once, so it might take a while but with some patience I'm sure you could get a game going.

I demand our community of 6 people have a complex and well respected tournament. I understand a prize pool probably won't exceed 100k US, but with compendium purchases we can probably shoot for 125k. Attached are screenshots of the sets I envision coming with our compendium.

I'll be interested in doing some inhouses and such but it's pretty difficult getting people who are up for one or managing to balance the teams/picking a server that's good for everyone.

halfchan has a bot that sets up inhouses, bot uses a voting system of !use or !lux for us east or luxembourg server. most people are probably either euro or us so that'd probably work fine. If most people are US/SEA though we could go USW
in terms of balancing the teams i think it probably won't matter. not like we're playing for points, though I might see if we can cast some of the games for laughs and posterity
easiest way to balance though is to play random draft or captains draft or some other retard gamemode imo
No.2195
>>2193
Balance doesn't really matter right now. No match will be exactly fair, but nobody is keeping score. Maybe we can actually try to have fun and become a stronger community.
As far as servees go, however, there could be some issues. I think most of us are US players, but there's no possibly way for us to all play without someone being left out or having to deal with a shitload of lag. That's something we can worry about once we know that enough of us are willing to participate.

Alright, I guess I will take the initiative to organize something.
This Sunday, 4/26/15, I will be creating an inhouse lobby. The lobby should be reachable through the "Play" menu, then selecting "Find a Lobby" > "Community Lobbies" > "Guild Lobbies" shortly before 8pm on Sunday.
A couple of notes:
>USE server (sorry if this isn't ideal for everyone)
>all pick or captains mode (depending on what people want and how tryhard they want to be)
>bo1's
>shuffled teams after each match to prevent stax of shitters versus less shitters
>no password on the lobby, should just be reachable through the method described above. A password will be applied and distributed on the event page if this is an issue for some reason.
>"Latest" patch version (as opposed to tournament)
>no coaches allowed
>"all chat" disabled
>spectators enabled with 2 minute delay
If we have trouble filling the lobby, I don't have any qualms with people inviting friends that are not in the guild or group to fill the remaining slots. If for some reason your friends are insufferable faggots we can just kick them post-match.
Depending on the turnout, anyone who is stuck as the "eleventh player" can get swapped for one of the losing players if no one wants to willingly switch. On the extremely rare chance we have ~20 players, I will probably put Aurora in change of making a second lobby.
Novice broadcasters are welcome to practice casting on the match(es), just don't go advertising your stream on Reddit or some shit.
I will contact Mariya (formerly Aurora) about setting up an event in the 8chandoto group (https://steamcommunity.com/groups/8chandoto).
Sort of a weird note, I want to preemptively ask people to be polite to their teammates and adversaries. I know 8chan isn't a hugbox, so I don't mean no swearing or anything, but don't sperg out on your teammates or enemies over losing an inhouse match. This isn't a ranked pub, no need to shittalk the enemy team excessively to divide them and win. In the same vein, you might have a less than optimal teammate, but since they aren't some pub Russian and come from the same community as you do, they will probably be willing to take advice. Don't fight with your team, these are just skrims. I mention this because I worry after one inhouse everyone will be universally salty over infighting and never want to do something like this again.
Any changes to the event will be updated in a quote to this post as well as on the event page.
I can't think of much else that is needs to be mentioned, but please feel free to ask any questions or make any comments about this setup. Hopefully I will see at least 9 more of you at 8pm EST on Sunday.

we played a bunch of games
like 4 or 5?
most went pretty well, some faggot drafter picked brood though. we'll play more this weekend hopefully.
I think I'm going to insist on random draft or captains draft (or even all pick christ) from now on though, the captains mode is leading to a lot of inherent imbalance (only one team ever seems to end up with an actual draft, a lot of player skill imbalance) and picking/playing to win hard instead of even remotely trying to have some retard fun like this is supposed to be

That's good, last time we only played two games and I suggested playing Captain's Draft earlier since CM tends to do that to people. Player skill and experience will always be an issue but since we are just dicking around in the inhouses it doesn't matter much since it's just to have fun.

A ban list isn't necessary. If you are really concerned about ruining the fun by playing your best hero, then you can choose to not pick them, but I don't think limiting what players can play is a good solution. Inhouses are supposed to be fun, but I imagine most players want to improve. By dealing with the ES picker in the 8chan guild you can better deal with the ES picker in solo queue. I actually played a match against Brood and did a lot better knowing what to expect after getting stomped.
If someone is an ES picker, just pick counters Earth Spirit counters lol. Maybe lock ES before them and then repick (ALL PICK) or just ban the hero out of respect for the player's skill at it (CAP MODE).

I don't think inhouses should be taken extremely seriously, but I don't feel they should mimic the clown town /vg/ inhouses. For the future inhouses.
If you're going to invite your friends, i would like them to play on your team so the rest of us dont need to deal with your screenstaring contests.
What's the point in playing CM, AP or any of the sort when other team knows your exact drafting plan, position etc. and pretty much wins the game for them.
If you people cant have a game without staring at eachothers screens then i suggest we stick with Mid Only, where it doesn't matter. If not, then atleast i will stop wasting my time with these inhouses.
Regards concerned citizen.
No.2661
>>2660
This seems like a no-brainer. Our inhouses aren't about winning or losing, but this kinda takes the fun from it. The thing about these matches is that we're all strangers, we all have different skill levels and strategies, so anything can happen, and we all accept that. We don't need any outside influences to these matches that are already 1-sided from the start.
No.2663

I never said that it was about winning. It just makes me salty when other team tries so hard to win that thay resulted to cheathing. I just want to play like a tard with other tards and not deal with tryhards that i already see in everygame.
I'll say that we just stick with playing MO or play AP, RD, AR, ARD so people can pick whatever they want and play this however they want.

I think we need a better way to randomize the teams. A lot of the same configurations come out of the autobalance thing. And it doesn't allow us to get on the same team with lan-friends.
No.2669
>>2663
It isn't the other team that is resulting in cheating it's just the guys who are in the LAN. Whenever he started pointing out wards I told him to stop cheating, if anything most of the people playing discouraged that behavior.
But I agree, we should force those players on the same team but they should keep the same steam name with their lobby name since it just makes it hard to tell who we are trying to get together on a team.
No.2672

I know you didn't say that it was about winning, but it was something I wanted to highlight on.
>>2665
We're never going to have a completely balanced lineup. As far as I know, I have the lowest MMR in on this whole fucking board and I was on the winning team 100% of the time last time I played in our inhouse. We played 5 or 6 matches, with my team stomping every single time. I'm not even trying to sound good, it was boring. If the worst player out of 80+ players from around the world isn't enough to make a strong team more balanced, nothing will.
No.2673

I agree I think the only thing we can do to make it more balanced is to help people out with understanding the game more and getting better. I should probably start coaching more often for people on this board.

REMINDER
It's saturday
2 hours from this post, we have inhouses scheduled
No.2813
I don't participate in these inhouses for several reasons:
1-"Tryharding" is something people cry about. I like winning, so if I see an opportunity to counterpick and/or get my hero fed off of the same few people I've identified as ez-er targets, I'm gonna do it.
2-I don't play ranked. Why? I am not good at carries unless they are easy, aka Lina Gyro and Riki. Until I feel like I am good enough to carry a game singlehandedly, I will not play ranked. The Peruvians and leavers I encounter in every single game I have played in the past two months means I will not let some fuck in an internet cafe bring my MMR. What does this have to do with 8ch guild? There's always one fuck that judges you based on your MMR or your wins. Since I "mained" support for a good long while, my winrate is abysmal(it's gotten better as of a few months ago when I stopped playing supports) and since I don't play ranked, no MMR. Seeing some guy go on and on about MMR when I know I stomped him two days ago in a pub just grinds my gears(you know who you are).
3-Noobs/Redditors. I'm unsatisfactory at many parts of the game I should be better at, like last hitting while under harassment and stacking with HOTD. But when guy comes up to me and says that Luna is a support and Techies is useless, I die a bit inside.
I just want us to hurry up and start on this team thing. Y'all know me, I play this game pretty much 17 hours a day/night, I'm always online and if I'm not, shoot me a Steam message and I'll hop on. I just want games where I don't have to say >we need wards if there is a Riki and we have rich supports rushing aghs, or >Destroy the tower, then get back! if carries are sitting in mid for ten minutes doing fuck all, or worse, staying too long after a push while at low hp.

VERY UNSUCCESSFUL INHOUSE
Here are my suggestions.
All inhouses from now on will be held on the beta client. this is going to quickly become the standard for workshop content, despite its flaws. There are other game modes we can play, including normal game modes, but these are some popular ten person custom game modes. If everyone has them installed before hand, it saves a lot of time.
NOTE ABOUT THOSE WHO ARE GOING TO SUGGEST DOTO PARTY
DOTO PARTY is unbelievably broken because the person who made it sucks. It was broken in Source 1 and is still broken in Source 2. An alternative, Omni Party, is coming out soon and should be better.
Thirdly, I am going to start posting inhouse reminders more regularly as a tripfag. Some notes about inhouse reminders and info:
>The usual time for our USE inhouses at the time of this post are 6pm on Saturdays. The usual organizers are either CANADIAN PIG (me) or Aurora. Unless you see a post canceling it for some reason, assume it is Saturday at 6pm USE time.
>An event should be posted some time before the inhouse. Steam event reminders are really shit and go off at the time the event is scheduled instead of shortly before. Do not rely on them to heavily, but the event should be listed.
>The Beta, as of now, does not have guild chat. We cannot remind users over guild chat because of this. Everyone using the Beta should join the chat channel 8chandoto. Until guild are implemented, this should be our guild chat. Chat reminders will be spammed there.
>Posts will be made in this thread usually after an inhouse, shortly before an inhouse, and when the first lobby is created. These serve as good reminders for those who browse the board.
Fourthly, the lobby system in the Beta does not allow for guild lobbies to be create. Lobby passwords will be included in the event, posts when the lobby is created, and in the 8chandoto public chat room. In the Beta, to find a pass-worded lobby, select Custom Games>View Lobby List>Find Private Lobby and enter the provided password. In the Beta, players can be invited to the private lobby; using an invite allows a user to circumvent using a password.
Finally, please be patient with the Beta, especially custom game modes. Many custom game modes crash and sometimes the lobby needs to be recreated. If a crash occurs the lobby leader will recreate the lobby ASAP. This is not a criticism of any specific players, just a forewarning when joining subsequent inhouses.
I am sure there are more things I could think of to improve inhouses, but for now this is it. Hopefully this will prevent confusing and a lack of players in the future.
Also, a quick thank you to the players who played in today's inhouse. I know it was frustrating, but I appreciate you unexpectedly helping me test some of the logistical issues with future Beta inhouses. Thanks!

An additional thought:
Primarily Aurora and I (CANADIAN PIG) have been the ones hosting inhouses. With this comes issues of people not being pleased with the way things are being run. Some complain about lag because they live somewhere other than USE. Some complain because game modes choices are not what they would choose. Complaints have not been common, but they are worth addressing.
If you have a minor issue with the way our inhouses are being run, post or message either of us. In a sense, a smart business owner will take criticism seriously and try to please their customers.
If you have a major issue that could not be resolved host your own inhouse! When I say "Host your own inhouse," this is not a "Fuck you," but an honest suggestion. If you feel a product is bad, create an alternative. There is nothing wrong with there being multiple inhouses focusing on different game modes or different regions. Hell, they can even be created due to a dislike of management. All I ask is that players be respectful of other players and hosters. For example, don't try to fuck others over by scheduling your inhouse at the exact same time to compete and don't try and ruin other people's inhouses just because you don't like them. Spam wars are also frowned upon.
A final note, I don't actual have any power on this board. I am a user like everyone else. I am speaking as if the things I say are rules, but in reality they are backed by nothing. Don;t take my posts as law, but I hope they provide some decent advice for running organized events for this board in the future.

It will be in the beta client. We will be playing some of the custom games listed in the previous post. Also, omni party is now out (I think) so I advise players to install it!

>It's in the buggy ass beta client
>all future ones will be in the buggy ass beta client
I might just start hosting a lobby at a set time every day, because once a week sucks and Dota 2 Reborn sucks. Camel, Ripper, Canadian, Baggings, Catsby, Aurora, you guys are rarely on. Rarely. Catsby has been playing more often recently, but shoosh. I feel like this is some sort of casual thing, and I am not using casual as in the ebin meme, I mean casual as in nobody is taking this seriously. At least not how I see it. Look, the one or two times I was even in the inhouses people cried if you tryharded, and there's been of an 8ch stack/team since before I came here and no matter how much I annoy Camel about it nothing seems to happen. Bless his heart, he's a good boy. I digress. Steam says I play this game too much. I play it every day. I play it often. I'm really really really bad at some heroes, and I faceroll with other heroes. I build dagon on Blyatcyka and I build Sange and Yasha+urn on Abbadon. I'm not great but I use mic and I don't feed. Usually. The other day I fed two games in a row, GreatxCatsby saw it. Man, that was so bad. So, so bad. Anyway. I am on central time, so maybe I'll set up something. I guess.

>SnY+Urn on Abaddon
I don't see anything wrong with that.
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of the half-assed beta client either, so I might actually join your inhouse if I'm available.

It'll be daily, so I'm thinking maybe one at 12 pm CT, one at 6pm CT, one at 12 am CT, and one at 6 am CT. 2 a day every day. Or three a day. Whatever. I figure that will give the europeans a chance to join. If person can't make it to one, there will be another soon. I guess these would be less of inhouses and more just meeting up for duo/triple stacks. Regular non-beta client, of course

Sorry, man, I've been sick lately as well as starting a normie 9-5 job. I actually would like to play more serious lobbies, but there are issues with skill disparity that some feel shafted. Our Saturday lobby is sort of focusing more on custom games now as opposed to memeteam draft lobbies since they are more on the radar with the new client. Custom games also provide some variety with some other members of the community. It does suck the beta client is buggy, but there have actually been a number of recent fixes to make things more stable.
Honestly, if it was not for the updates made to the workshop mods to work on the beta, I would agree with sticking to the standard. The standard is the best for normal lobbies and matchmaking atm, but custom games are starting to require the new client. There have been custom games for a while and we should have been doing them a while ago.
As for the casual thing, yeah honestly hosts have been slacking and I am trying to improve that (see my previous shitposts). If you plan on running some more serious lobbies I would definitely play, but like I said I started a normie job.
I prefer people who tryhard when playing Dota. Complaining that others are trying their best makes a player a faggot.
Honestly, if I am online and you want to stack or something message me, but I go to bed at like 9 mon-fri since I get up at 530.

In the chance that anyone will see this, Canadian Pig and I are looking to stack up for a little while. We could do Source 1 matchmaking or Source 2 custom matches, whatever's wanted more.
If you're interested in playing, contact me. We're starting in about 30 minutes.

Update: Tried to learn the ins and outs of what times the majority of dota players around the world are online relative to my timezone. Wrote some of that down. Gave the beta client another try since everyone says it is getting fixed all the time, but it was still borderline unplayable fkr me. Given those averages I looked at earlier, though, I think a once a day/twice a day meetup for a few rounds is feasible.

Some new client performance tips.
>disable/enable 64 bit. If you are having bad performance try using the opposite of what you are using now
>disable vertical sync and AA
>run in full screen, the beta defaults to borderless window.

I did the last three things but I can't find how to enable or disable 64 in the options.

64bit runs better for some and worse for others, so if using 64bit reduces your performance switch back. For example, in the 32bit I gain 20 frames and in the 64bit I lose 20 frames (when compared to Source 1).

The last inhouse was more successful than last weeks, but it seems many people still have an aversion to the beta client for a good reason, it is still unstable like a week later
We had a s lot of fun with legends of Dota and Skillshot Wars, but the client has a lot of issues with crashing after playing a few games, requiring players to restart after every few games or they just start failing to load.
http://strawpoll.me/4766706
Here is a straw poll on whether we should go back to using the stable client or stick with the beta. Also, if us playing on the beta has caused you to avoid that past 2 inhouses, let us know. Also, if you prefer playing games on the beta client say something as well. Most improtantly, vote!

Well based on the poll I have determined that no one browses this board or caes about inhouses.
That's okay though. I am still interested in teaming up on saturdays around 6pm, but I don't think we should expect a full group. Anyway, this saturday at 6pm I'll be online.

The thing with NADota is every tends to be toxic and what not but the community is actually alive and everyone is pretty high skilled from what I can tell. Most of the posters are above 4.5k and tend to know what they are talking about but it does have a good amount of shitposting and memes. It's been pretty enjoyable so far with my experience.
