What is the lowest MMR when captains mode isn't a losing proposition?

I calibrated at sub1k MMR because I was a retard who went into ranked during his second month playing, and I've just now learned enough to be able to slog my way out of it (1200 now).

I want to play captain's mode, but the thing is that at this MMR, nobody understands how pickbans should work (and yet they all fight over instalocking captain). The question is, how much all pick do I have to play before I can queue for CM and not feel like killing myself?

 No.3474

This is something I feel like a lot of people don't understand. If you are 2k or lower then your picks really don't matter that much since everyone plays like shit at the level it's just the team who know their mechanics and map awareness that will win most of the time.

>>3474

Thus why I'm asking at what point captain's mode is worth playing.

 No.3476

>>3474

This is true, however, as a player who falls into that bracket, I've noticed that about half of the players here only know how to use a handful of heroes. If you give your trench shitter teammate Magnus he'll skewer enemies to safety. If you give him Void, he'll chrono 4 teammates and 1 enemy every time. If you give him LC, he'll duel every goddamn enemy he can, even when 1v5.

Not to say that All Pick isn't just as bad, but it's better than someone assigning roles and heroes to his teammate of strangers.

I'm on the verge of 2k and I'm avoiding Captain's like a plague. I love the mode, but it's not worth the pain of having a Peruvian rush pick captain, ban heroes like Riki, and give everyone a carry. If I had to guess, I'd say that Captain's becomes safe at around 3.5-4k, if even that.

Here you go OP. A guide to success on the ladder.

When you get to 2200+

Start playing Captain's Mode.

When you are playing Captain's Mode, find the mouse position on the screen where you can spam and get captain as fast as possible.

You climbing depends on three things:

1. Your willingness to improve

2. You getting captain

3. You knowing how to draft

1. The first one comes down to you and I'm not going to talk about it.

2. Getting Captain

When I say spam, I mean you need to fucking press the mouse key like you're life depends on it.

Don't injure yourself. But spam press really fucking fast. You HAVE to get captain.

Why? Because you are playing with the assumption that your entire team is retarded.

Which brings me to the third point:

3. Knowing how to draft

If you take captain and draft like a retard, you deserve to be below 2k. So I'm going to tell you how to draft. There are three essential commandments when drafting.

1. Try to draft Witch Doctor and Wraith King in every single game

2. If the enemy team has even a SINGLE invis hero, draft Zeus. I AM NOT FUCKING KIDDING.

3. The hero you pick for yourself must be powerful.

Explanation:

1. Draft WD and Wraith King. Why?

Because everyone you are playing with is a fucking retard (remember this is our assumption) and these heroes are very easy to be effective with.

2. Draft Zeus if against invis

NEVER expect your team to buy sentries. Some times they will. I can tell you that. But it is NEVER an expectation. Zeus is very easy to win with and he counters invis.

3. You need to pick something that retards don't know how to play against, while at the same time being really fucking powerful. Want some examples?

Spectre and Leshrac are great examples. These are heroes that you CAN NOT let your team use. YOU must use them if you draft them (only draft one of them obviously).

These are not the only ones. They are just examples. It is up to you to find a hero that is very effective while at the same time receiving very little play. Watch RECENT pro games to educate yourself on the matter.

PRACTICE the hero when you pick it and STICK to that hero. If you are bad at last hitting and denying with that hero then you need to go into a custom match and you need to practice until you get AT LEAST a sum of 80 from last hits and denies. If you get 84 last hits and 84 denies then you are a fucking king. Oh and don't buy anything during these practice sessions. Only tangos to stay in lane with good health.

A few last things to note.

1. You're team is retarded. Retards don't like being made fun of or treated badly. Keep team moral UP. Don't criticize these people EVER. Just encourage the team. Try to use voice because they will see you as more of a human rather than a robot. Encourage supports to buy wards but don't complain if they don't.

2. Quick clarification about the team you draft. You should have 3 ranged heroes and 2 melee heroes. If you don't then you are fucking yourself over. One of the ranged you should try to make Witch Doctor. One of the Melee you should try to make Wraith King.

A few hero suggestions from personal experience:

Omniknight

Abaddon

Warlock

Lich

Earthshaker (ONLY WITH A RANGED CARRY)

Crystal Maiden

Chaos Knight

Sven

Tidehunter

Enigma (if someone wants it)

Silencer (if someone wants it)

GOOD LUCK

Mostly true. A little tip for making sure that you get to be captain is to set up mouse keys, so you can click with both your mouse and 1-2 keys at the same time, multiplying your number of clicks. Easy.

>you need to practice until you get AT LEAST a sum of 80 from last hits and denies

What anon means is 80 LH/D by the 10-minute mark. Denies aren't nearly as important as last hits on a core, so I wouldn't set a goal for a certain number of denies in a match, but 50 last hits at 10 minutes is what I always try to achieve which is honestly skewed now that kills are worth much more than creeps in 6.84. I'd suggest picking a hero who can participate in early fights and snowball from early kills, rather than a hero who wants to jungle for an hour. See: http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/1634076720

As far as being encouraging to your teammates, be a leader and make it sound like you have the entire game planned out. Above all, earn the trust of your teammates. What I've found is that wording your ideas with confidence makes teammates want to cooperate more. If I say "Do you guys want to push?" I usually won't get many people to push with me, but if I say "Let's take this middle tower." my team will work with me. Keep that in mind.

Yes this guy is correct.

Don't pick some dipshit like Antimage or Faceless Void.

I made it to 3k (and coulda probably have made it to 4k) using Brewmaster alone, and Brewmaster LOVES to fight.

With that said, having strong last hitting is still important, even for a hero who doesn't need to farm all game.

CM is not worth playing in matchmaking

getting captain won't matter

most people below 5.5k aren't good enough to play something they aren't perfectly familiar with

outdrafting and playing perfectly well in whatever singular position you put yourself in won't accomplish anything when nobody else on your team has any clue how to play because you put them on lycan and they are a sniper exclusive player

if you want to climb ranked, do it in solo queue ranked all pick

not enough people queue captains mode to ensure you'll have a halfway decent experience

if you really want to play captains mode, sign up for some kind of a league. that way you can have a team you play with consistently, or get to know other players around your skill level that are also not completely retarded. there's /vg/ masters, reddit dota 2 league, semipro league, faceit, etc.

Don't listen to this faggot

At 5k mmr NO ONE plays Captains because no one cares anymore, they just want to get into a game as fast as possible.

Listen to what I told you in that long comment. This guy is plain wrong.

 No.3486

>He'll chrono 4 teammates and 1 enemy every time

Funny story about that, actually. Last game I played ranked (all pick, of course), somebody on my team picked void. He chrono'd three teammates into an aghs macropyre and killed us all.

I couldn't even be mad, I just was laughing. Especially after he said in all chat "I'm just going to report myself".

>>3480

Appreciate the tips, mate!

One last teamfight to determine who wins the match, about to get a triple kill, our Void does this >>2832 and stands still in the chrono.

 No.3494

you're an actual retard did you read my post

its not about people not queueing cm at 5k

its about the fact that people can't play heroes

when i was climbing around 4k I decided to try queueing captains mode

having had bad experience with shit captains (trolls picking only carries, peruvians drafting themselves pudge and riki for their friend and literally afking for the other picks) i spammed to get captain

i picked tide invoker shaman skywrath lycan, iirc invoker asked for the hero

against alch razor wd ns necro

tl;dr i played skywrath my shaman fed 10 deaths lycan fed 9 tide never ravaged more than 2 people and invoker, despite doing fairly well, never had a stun for the enemy witch doctor's ulti

so the game ended 9-37 despite us having a solid draft for the simple reason of "retards"

basically its players are no better than normal queue except 80% of the time you won't be able to pick your own hero

Your personal bad experience is absolute proof that CM doesn't work.

Thank you so much for this insightful and concisely defended explanation.

I suppose me memory was failing. That time I climbed from 2.2k to 3k on CM only, never happened.

I'm gonna go kill my self because I know that your intellect is the three times the size of mine and I must be a complete fucking waste of space.

 No.3496

Oh and btw

I've played 204 fucking CM matches.

Who do you think is going to understand CM more:

The dipshit who played it once and had a bad game, or the guy who tanked through 200 and one 60% of them.

Shut the fuck up, and get the fuck out.

>I had one bad game in Captains, so the mode is awful

Also…

>Drafting a team where only 2 of your 5 picks scaled and 4 of your 5 picks are completely shut down by BKB

 No.3506

>>3496

I heard you like Brewmaster

What do you think of refresher on him in various situations?

 No.3507

>>3506

A couple things to be aware of:

1. BKB renders Brew useless.

2. He has become kind of a bad pick at this point. All those Brew games were a year ago, back when he was guaranteed pick or ban in pro games.

With that said, if you want to play Brewmaster now, go ahead. But its a lot harder to be effective. He's just outright useless against a lot of stuff.

About Refresher:

Considering how much harder it is for his skills to be effective, refresher is a bad investment. Even back then, I never went for it. Now its much much much worse.

If you play him now, you need to stack as many auras as you can and play a much heavier tank role. Make sure you protect your team rather than run off for kills. Keep your Primal Splits centered.

If I was gonna play him, I would follow this

Blink Dagger ASAP, Arcane Boots

Drums, Agh's, Vlad's,

Assault Cuirass, Guardian Greaves

Sell Drums, get Shiva's

If the game some how keeps going past this point, Sell Vlad's and get Radiance.

Sorry about the long text of info. In the end your question was answered. I highly discourage refresher on Brew. The fight very very rarely lasts that long and there are much more important items to get.
