I appreciate your suspicious offer, but I've given it some thought and I don't think boosting is the answer. Whatever MMR I can get is what I deserve.

I will, however, happily accept whatever advice you have for me. If you wouldn't mind coaching, I'd love that as well. I gave in and decided to make a smurf, so I'm working on that now.

I'm only two matches in, but so far, so good. I answered the "have you played Dota before" question honestly, so the players I'm queuing with seem more experienced than most new players. Overall, the skill level is still lower than what I'm used to.

I plan on using this thread to share my progress over time. Hopefully it'll help others understand what to expect if they choose to make a smurf, since this is entirely experimental for me.

Day 2 update

I'm pretty happy about how today turned out. After just five matches of normal skill, I'm starting to be placed in high skill matches. I'm not sure for how long I'll be able to stay here, but considering the fact that I've "never" solo queued high skill on my main account, things are already looking better.

My teammates and enemies aren't necessarily better than what I'm used to, but skill level seems a lot more consistent and matches are almost even. From the profiles that I'm seeing on Dotabuff, I'm still being matched with other smurfs.

Why am I always called a PA/Void player? I've hardly used either of them.

I try not to pick carries without early game unless someone offers to support me. Even in my AM match, I ended up soloing the safelane and didn't have a lane to farm after 8 minutes.

Day 6 update

Things have taken a turn for the worse. I'm still being placed exclusively into high skill matches, but the matches on this account are becoming somewhat WORSE than those on my main account. I have yet to have a game where players didn't fight over mid and I rarely see either wards or couriers in these matches where, surprisingly, they came in almost every one of my normal skilled matches on my main account, where players usually didn't fight for mid. The biggest problem I've seen is players who queue in parties. There's usually one high skilled player with a shitter or two who play like garbage and wouldn't ever be placed in this bracket without being in a party. Games are hardly even-sided anymore and I've already reported two people for feeding.

In other news, I'm being placed with fewer smurfs. I'm seeing accounts with hundreds or thousands of games played making appearances in my matches, although they're often worse than the smurfs.

If you can look past the 0/10 174 GPM Sniper who spent the game bitching about not getting to go mid, and the zero-presence cookie-cutter mining Techies, both heroes who ended without a single core item in a 35-minute game, then yes. I underperformed. Clinkz was a bad pick to begin with, then I kinda shat myself with my build.

You dont need hp items on clinkz. What you need, is to start using his ulti before every fight. I know mana cost is quite high, thats why you get soul ring so you can spam his ulti.

Nowdays clinkz players build solarcrest and deso, cookie cutter items that melt enemies in matter of seconds.

If you really need hp, get hp but not as 1st item unless they have mass stuns and you need bkb to survive teamfights.

If you feel like trying something interesting, here's a item build i came up while writing this.

Treads, Soul Ring, MoM, Deadalus, Skadi/BkB, more hp/more damage. Build him in that order. If you need bkb get mini crit and finish deadalus after bkb.

Day 7 update

Well, I quit. For some reason, I'm only getting placed in normal skill now. I honestly thought I was doing fine in high skill, but whatever. The matches I'm being placed in are on par with the matches I'm typically placed in on my main account. In my last match as Storm, a teammate said that his MMR was 1200, which means my unranked MMR managed to drop by roughly 2000 points within just a few matches.

I guess it's true. I can honestly say that I thought I had deserved to stay in high skill, but I've got nothing to prove anyone otherwise. If anyone wants to tell me what went wrong, be my guest. I don't see where I fucked up badly enough to drop 2k.

There are still a few things that I managed to learn from making this smurf.

>no one buys wards or courier in high skill

>no one speaks English in high skill

>everyone wants mid in high skill

>everyone runs meme builds in high skill

>no one communicates in high skill. Most of my games were completely silent.

>high skill players always play with friends who know nothing about Dota

>players in high skill will spend the first 40 minutes of a game farming items to make them farm faster when their team has less late game than the enemy team

>high skill players throw fits over petty shit. I thought I was bad about this, but someone spurgs out about their team in every single match

I've done well with Clinkz in the past. A build that I've found to work wonders is Diffusal into Deso, then maybe a Heart, a sort of Riki build. Deso Clinkz has so much pushing power thag turns me on, but Diffusal is such a great item that offers so much for one inventory slot. HotD is another item I like to consider. I can use a dominated creep for as long as I need to and consume it when the time calls. The creep will be there right when I need it and the bonus heath from dominating it means I get more from my ult than I would from a non-dominated creep. Not to mention the ever useful armor, damage, and lifesteal that comes from the item.

Because you dropped from high to normal just means you are probably still in the 2.5k range since it's around 3k MMR to be considered a High skill match. The reason you got matched with a 1.2k guy, assuming he isn't lying, is because MMR is like a bellcurve where most of the players are around the 2-3k range so they will randomly get matched with people around ~1k MMR or lower since there isn't enough people to match up with them the same issue with 6-7k MMR players being matched up with 4ks. I have a friend in real life who happens to have around 700 MMR and he claims to get matched with 2k or 3k players some times depending on the time he is playing.

Ripper Jew here. All making a smurf did was set myself up for more disappointment at the cost of 20 hours that I could have spent grinding on my main account. Maybe you'll have better results, but the point of this thread was to experiment and show if making a smurf is worth it. I gave my smurf to Aurora and he's been stomping on it, but I'm back to spamming Bloodseeker on my main account.
