How do I get better at last hitting while under lane pressure in mid?

I can get 50lh@10mins without enemies (just practicing on custom games with no bots) but anytime you add that in I get killed.

Even when I harass back as a ranged character, if seems I'm trying so hard to get the last hits that then I'm losing too much health.

 No.4230

You have to know when to actually get a last hit and when not too, since most opponents will probably bait a last hit so they can harass you or attempt to kill you.

Not sure how to learn this more besides experience.

Last hitting seems so important, but I think a lot of positioning errors boil down to just playing the game.

 No.4232

Some of it also boils down to realizing that with right click (no attack needed) on enemy heroes alone you can use the creep aggro to reposition them for easier last hits.

If you're having health loss issues then just pack some static regen. I like mangos. Sometimes I rush a Ring of Health or Headdress though.

The best defense is a good offense. If you can drive your enemy out of lane or at least give them a reason to want to stay away from you, you'll be able to avoid harass. Know when to fall back, don't get greedy and try to farm with 1/5 health.

A big factor of laning is predicting your enemy's actions. It can be tough, but imagine how easy laning would be if your enemy shouted out their plans. If you can read your enemy, you can make the lane yours. With that said, try to ruin your laning opponent's plans. Harass just BEFORE they move in for a last hit, try to pay attention to if and when they go for runes and try to stop them. It's something you'll get the hang of eventually.

One last thing, a bottle almost always ensures a won lane. Heroes with sustainability also to a great job of helping with this, too (Omni, Kotl, Necro, Undying). If you're concerned about a lane, try to get a healing or high-damage support.

 No.4239

The best way to win lane is to pick a hero who does it well. As far as mids go, Viper is probably the biggest mid winner. He shits on pretty much any other mid off the top of my head.

When I have to CS I always CS too safely and just sort of stand in XP range afraid.
