So I've been contemplating this and decided that having a dedicated thread for my personal project would be a good way to document my progress and get feedback. This board is slow enough that I don't have to worry about my thread dying as well.

In order to get off ass and finally make a portfolio to shop, I'm taking the next four months to build a vis dev portfolio for animation culminating in the expo. This will be similar to the everyday thread, just with a deadline.

I like the character illustration as a picture, but design needs fleshing out for my story. Here's some early development

use sharper edges but soften those shadows, the stomach looks flat and hollow in a way that it looks like shes sucking it in

the water looks like goo in the end pic, it looks like she ends at her knees, those arms are way too short, stumpy and lumpy

here, honestly i shouldve timelapsed this but oh well…

also sorry for being an ass earlier, wasnt in the best of moods

first of all you should work on your fundamentals, theyre at a lower level than your rendering right now.

its important to say that although soft shadows look nice, hard shading is actually better for developing your skill, youll know when to use each when you learn more about lighting (with practice, observation, etc)

as for the rendering comment, i ment that it looks lumpy and generally unnatural

and that last peice, dont adjust your colors like that bro, the saturation will just end up looking like shit

I'm trying to keep up with my studies as well as put this folio together. It's difficult balancing the two, but I suppose it's the same for all aspiring pros.

I'm basically trying to mix the shape language of a star with the shapes of a sea monster within her head. I think it's there, I just need to finish this turnaround.

Is four months enough to make a thing like this?
