>>515Don't restrict yourself to what you think you want to draw. Try a variety of things and see what feels right to you. Western cartoons, anime, realism. I personally like to do all of the above. Cartoons help me loosen up, so I don't get stuck trying to fix the same line over and over. Anime is just easy cute points lel. And drawing portraits and the like helps with anatomy, obviously. I think I used to also google skeletons and try to draw the skin etc on them. That helped me.
Brings me to point number two. Don't waste your money on how to draw books. Just don't. They're useless. Just try to remember that all you're doing is putting a line on a piece of paper and relax. If someone says the dog you just drew looks like a monkey? Holy shit, you can kind of draw monkeys now! Always learn from every mistake you make and try and deconstruct exactly what you fucked up most on, then practice it. Repeat forever lel.
Lastly, I keep motivated by picking an artist who is only slightly better than me and thinking, no, fuck you, I'll get better then you! Drawing can easily be competitive.
If you ever get bored of drawing, try making a random squiggle and turning it into an animal you make up. It's fun.
