It's a Rupert Murdoch fishwrap, and his ilk specifically excludes humans from the classification of "ape".

Naturalists and wildlife conservationists do likewise, but at least they have fundamentally sound reasons for doing so. It's a bit like astrophysicists defining "metals" as "all elements heavier than helium" – it's more useful to them, not because of some fundamental belief system telling them we're not apes.
