I don't know about you guys, but I'm interested learning someone (or something) sending me e-mails rather than looking at websites. For example, Newsletters from About.com. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'll take anything.

Are you looking for something specific or just random trivia?

I don't remember signing up for them, but I know I get all kinds of emails from quora now. They might have something you're looking for. That or get a good RSS feed reader and start collecting RSS feeds.

That and look into getting onto a good mailing list/list-serve. At least at my university, they have a central site that handles mailing list subscriptions, and its the main way to find out about upcoming talks and the like. Its also the main place to go for some more obscure subjects. The way you go about doing so varies by list serve, so do the research into how to do so first so you don't end up sending an email to a couple thousand people.

bumping with a different idea and side note: why not just email tons of people questions you have rather than go to schools? Also why not email famous people to try to network if you can?
