What do you think of assignments where you have to work in pairs or groups?

 No.311

I've noticed as of lately I end up wanting to do all the work, because the lazy fucks I got paired with, even when I like them can't be arsed to put in the minimal effort, so if we have to do a presentation they just copy/paste the text from the first or second result google gave them. But then I just end up doing my part at the last possible moment after thinking on ways to make the work better, rarely implementing them because of the time I spent procrastinating.

TL;DR: Shit's fucked.

I have similar experiences. But even if both are eager, one of them will dominate the pair.

 No.333

Nonexistent in Physics, so I can't tell

 No.334

I've had a class where we had to work in groups of 5 and had to log who worked on what, when and how long. The grades were modified by the work done, so if you contributed significantly less than the others, you would get a shittier grade.

It worked pretty well.

Last quarter I took the intro CS class where they had pair programming. Holy fuck it was awful. I don't know if it was the people there, or if it was the concept itself but every assignment was a huge fucking chore. It was just me doing half the work myself, and then me telling the guy what to type for the other half. Fuck it was retarded. I mean, it was the intro to programming class so everybody there was some sort of retard (I spotted only one person using GNU/Linux, and Ubuntu at that), mostly the /v/ type HURR DURR I WANT BECOM CS MAGUR TO MAEK GAEM XD.
God, fuck them. I'm already starting to see this type fail. Fucking trash, I can't wait for the next set of weeder classes.

I know it sucks when you feel like you're the one having to do all the work or whatever but actually part of being good at teamwork is being able to get over that; inevitably people in a group will work at different abilities or speeds. Being good at teamwork is about not letting that affect your mood or performance negatively.

You just need to find a friend who doesn't suck… I've done pretty much every group project for CS with the same girl, and it's gone pretty well. Currently writing a unix kernel. Also, there are a lot more people than you would think who don't suck dick at CS and don't run a linux distro

Fuck me. I changed from physics to maths because of how awful I am labs, don't you have any classes that requier lab reports?

I only have group homework, and I do it all alone. It was the same in my 2nd year of physics when I could. Group assignments are awful.

Partner or team is usually incompetent and doesn't meet my standards so I end up doing most of their work, or fixing it up for them. But then when the partner is a good worker and intelligent that can still be stressful because you have to please them. And organization is usually messy either way.

 No.392

I hate them, I don't trust other people at all and usually do all of the work (gladly, might I add).

When I do trust people enough to let them work on projects, my partners do jack shit and even when they do manage to do something, they half-ass it so bad they might as well have not done it at all.

I hate other people in general. Why would professors punish hard workers by forcibly putting them with lower-achievers I don't understand.

 No.393

>>392

I doubt they know who is lower-achiver and who is not. But you probably will have to work with sloppy people at your future jobs too.

 No.416

I think students who are forced to work in pairs/groups should at least be able to choose their partners.

It was a pain to work with random fucks who don't pull their weight.

I remember my teacher in high school calling this "good life experience." Fuck that. I have more success working with people who I like and do their share of the work too.

 No.419

>>416

I liked random partners better because I almost always had either no friends in a class or an even number who all liked each other better than me and paired off amongst themselves. Random partners are less pleasant to work with but at least you keep your dignity.

 No.422

I personally like it because I'm a lazy fuck and need other people pushing me to not procrastinate and end up half-assing the assignment.
