This board is for boring discussions.

Most anything will be accepted, as long as you follow the global rules, and don't plague us with too exciting content.

Also check out our friends over at >>>/8lounge/ and >>>/comp/

Have fun! but not too much fun!

Have you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?

it's a tough pill to swallow. The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill, who presents and narrates the attached video.

Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.

Video related. Please leave your questions, comments, and concerns below about this radical new paradigm of thinking.

Swallow the brown pill today. Red pills are for fedora fucking wearing faggots, blue pills are for the ignorant masses. Ignore the other le epin /pol/ maymays, this one is the readl deal.

Dear John,

Today I enabled the 8chan's oekaki applet, so we have a new way to express our dull opinions and feelings. Let's draw some self portraits in this thread, to test it out, and to get an idea of the general traffic on this board. Oekaki related is a picture of me, that I've drawn as good as I could, but I'm not much of an artist. I'd normally count drawing as way to exiting, but as long as we keep it to gray colors, I'll be fine.

I hope to see your self portraits soon,

Lots of love,

John Smith.

P.S. I'm changing the font to a more rustic typewriter font, I hope you'll like it pal.

I'm not much of an artist either, John, but here's my humble attempt. A roll call is a nice idea, but if it the count is over about 4 or 5 it may just be a little bit too exciting for me, even if it is good news for the board.

Regards,

John Smith

Hey John,

No worries about the drawing. We're not here to be good artists, we're here to be boring.

As for the roll call, I don't think I catch your drift. Do you mean dice? Because those have been enabled even before I became board owner.

Yours truly,

John Smith

 No.162

>>160

Sorry about the confusion. By 'roll call', I was referring to your goal of trying to determine an approximate number of users of the board.

Hope that clears up any confusion, John.

–John

 No.165

>>162

Ah, my bad John, I can be a bit slow sometimes. Then again, that's why I run this board. Anyway, where were we? Oh yes, roll call.

The board list has a column called "active users", which lists the amount of unique IPs (not users, but close) that have made a post in the past 72 hours. This number is usually around the 7, if I recall correctly, but is 4 at the moment.

I don't think it's possible to truly count numbers on an Johnymous imageboard though, and in a way, that's a good thing. New users are of course always welcome here though, as long as they don't cause too much of a fuss. If you know anyone, feel free to invite them here. Don't advertise us too blatantly though, as that would only give us a bad name.

I hope to hereby have informed you enough.

Regards,

John Smith

Dear John,

After looking at your board for a while, I decided that it looks interesting, but it seems to be a bit too wild for my tastes. I will lurk some more though, and see what will happen.

I'd like to have one of these threads, but John, these have a tendency to get pretty out control, so be careful. I'll start:

I spend roughly 3 hours a day on image boards.

Dear John,

When I returned from vacation today (it wasn't too exciting, don't worry), after not being able to connect to the Internet for a while, one of the first things I did was visit /eh/. And what a shock it was. I had to do three sudoku puzzles to calm down again.

There had been no activity at all since I left, and while I know that we're not the most interesting lot, I'd expected that there were at least some posts. Now my question to you, if you are even reading this, is the following: how can we regain some of our old traffic, without obnoxiously spamming people and thus causing excitement? If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Yours sincerely,

John Smith

 No.186

Hi John,

Apparently the landlord said that we can put ads on other people's boards. Perhaps more people can visit if we make an advertisement that isn't too exciting?

John Smith

The sky looks nice at night

 No.143

I personally prefer the sky during the day, John, I enjoy admiring the structures of the clouds. The night sky is interesting too, but the vastness is a bit too much for me.

–John

 No.144

I always really enjoy the night sky. It makes me feel really small.

 No.173

Hey John,

I've never really been able to get into stargazing, but that's mostly an issue of light pollution. I remember once when I went camping in South Carolina, I was just amazed at how the sky was flooded with stars. To this day, I've never seen the Milky Way, but I hope to one day.

 No.154[Reply]

Hey John, Do you prefer your macaroni with or without ketchup?

-John

 No.156

Well John, the thing is, I don't really like ketchup in the first place. Not on my sausages, not on my potatoes, and logically, not on my macaroni.

Now, normally I just don't like ketchup because of the taste, but with macaroni the fact that ketchup is cold and the meal is hot also plays a role. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that people actually seem to be enjoying this. Tomato sauce, which is pretty similar in some of its ingredients is something I do really like on my macaroni though: in fact, I almost never eat any pasta without it.

I hope to have informed you enough of my tastes now, John, so one question remains: what about you?

Your friend,

John

 No.168

>>154

You know, John, I'm sort of in the same boat as >>156 I don't really enjoy the sweet taste of ketchup, even though the vinegar taste is okay. I do like quite a bit of pepper on my macaroni though. I will have to try tomato sauce now, sounds pretty interesting.

I know this may be a little bit off topic, John, but I enjoy my macaroni, and most all of my pasta, with a dash of salt and pepper, a helping of butter and few spritzes of olive oil. I find that it helps the 'bulky' feeling that eating too much pasta tends to leave a person with. I hope you get a chance to try this at some time, if you haven't before.

–John

 No.169

>>168

Some good points John. I'd like to add cheese to that list. It really adds something to the meal as a whole.

 No.170

>>169

Cheese is not a bad idea. I feel somewhat bad, I have to admit, for my impulse to derail this thread with conversation that is not related to macaroni, but I feel strongly compelled to recommend mixing some sliced pears and olives with your pasta, and if you are feeling completely out of character, replacing the oil and pepper with citrus juice and zest.

I'll digress though, John, I feel all this experimental food discussion in getting me too excited, you'll have to forgive me, it's been a few days since I've had a good meal.

 No.163[Reply]

Dear John,

Please sit down if you are easily flustered. I have a question which has been on my mind ever since the first time I laid eyes on this board. I assume we all know we can trust each other to not post anything which is too invigorating for our fellow users, and we can depend on this board to not raise our heart rate too much when all we want to do is browse image boards. I know I've come to depend on this place when I'm looking for something to distract me from my trash duties.

There is a problem in this, at least one I can see presenting, is how we are supposed to handle exciting content? I know I would hate to visit /eh/ and end up spilling my tea all over myself, but I would also hate to see us be the target of a group of differently-minded people who simply wanted to plague us with content that was above a certain threshold of tameness. I worry that simply removing the material might just excite them more.

You'll also have to forgive my blatant asking, John, as I know this issue has come up in isolated incidents before and was handled with an appropriate reaction, but I felt that the issue warranted more discussion, if for nothing else than to quench my curiosity, and stop the bugging of the question on my mind.

Thank you for your consideration

John Smith

 No.164

Dear John,

Thanks for the inquiry. To my horror, I realised that I never really thought about this. If, for some reason, someone decided to raid us, it would cause a lot of commotion, no matter how I handle it. However, in such a case I could enable the captchas against bots, no matter how much they annoy and upset me (there's those random combinations of numbers and letters, I always wonder how it works. truly fascinating).

If it were actual human beings doing this, than it would probably be possible to politely show them the door manually, except if they came in great numbers. I don't think that will happen very easily though, since we are but a small piece of paper on the great desk that is 8chan.

Again, thanks for your concern, John. If I missed anything, feel free to correct me.

With high regards,

John Smith

Hey John

Do you miss floppies?

Regards,

John

 No.151

Sort of, John. They sure felt very cool, and held a lot of data back then, but I have no use for them any more.

Maybe I am letting my assumption and curiosity get the better of me, but I'm assuming you do mess them, John?

–John

 No.152

Hey John,

I really liked floppies. They were nicer to just hold or have on your shelf than CDs or USB drives. It's a pity they hold so little data

 No.153

Hey John,

I have a few nostalgic memories about floppy disks. When I was in elementary school they gave everyone in the class a floppy disk to store the work that they did on the computer. It was mostly just things made in microsoft publisher, where we learned how to drag and drop and perform other simple tasks like that.

I still have the floppy that contained that work, but I've got no idea if it's still readable.

Regards,

John

 No.155

>>153

Why not try it, John? You might stumble upon some great memories.

 No.114[Reply]

Hey John,

Tell me about your dreams. Not your aspirations or your goals in life, but the things you find yourself doing inside of your imagination while you're asleep.

Me? I tend to walk around and wonder why everything looks so strange. Or some nights I don't really care about the strangeness of everythings appearance, and just want to get through the dream without too much hassle. Sometimes I wonder if that's too much to ask for, though.

 No.123

Hi John,

I have lucid dreams most nights, so what I do in my dreams is largely influenced by me. However, when I have non-lucid dreams, most of the time my friends and family play a role in it. I also seem to get apocalyptic themes a lot, don't know what's up with that.

Regards,

John

 No.140

>>123

That's interesting, John. I attain lucidity sometimes, but I always lose it once I get too excited. How do you manage to keep yourself under control?

-John

 No.141

>>140

It's a matter of getting used to it, really. After getting lucid for so many times, you'll get less excited, and you'll remain lucid. At least, that's how it went for me.

Good luck.

John.

Dear John,

As you probably noticed, our css got an overhaul today. Images are grayscaled, and a lot of the colors are removed. Tomorrow I will continue, and fix some more things (the banner being covered by the board list, etc.), but for now, I'd like your input. What would you like to see here? I guess this thread can be used as an overall feedback thread as well.

Lots of love,

John

Dear John,

You may want to sit down for a bit, because this might come as a terrible shock.

I found out that there is no way for us to have elevator music playing on /eh/. I'd need at least one line of custom html, or a custom bit of Javascript, and all I have access to is css.

I am sorry for this terrible disappointment. If there is a way I have overlooked, please do not hestitate to tell me.

Sincerely,

John Smith

You know, John, I think music suddenly playing when I visited the page might be a bit too exciting for me, even if it is just elevator music (which I happen to like, when I see it coming, that is). Maybe the lack of the music is for the best.
