Since slimcat doesn't plan on officially supporting windows 7 anymore and it's glitchy as fuck since slim doesn't give a fuck about making it compatible with anything but 10 and 8 now, I need alternatives.

Preferably something that also runs on Linux.

 No.55064

Compatibility mode?

 No.55067

>>55064

I'm running windows 7.

Compatibility mode doesn't work for windows 7 if you're trying to run things for windows 8 or 10.

 No.55069

….You know the upgrade to 10 is free, and if you're worried about 'muh bot net', Windows 7 is already that, right?

 No.55072

>>55069

I uninstalled it. /tech/ had a huge thread about how to uninstall the win10 shit from 8 and 7.

 No.55073

>>55069

Windows 7 only does the botnet to the extent of 10 if you've updated recently. /tech/ has a list of the updates that add it, so it's pretty easy – I think – to revert back. And if you've auto updates on, you've already got Windows 10.

What I do on GNU/Linux is Pidgin and the F-Chat plugin for it. Works well.

Hasn't Slimcat more or less abandoned the client to try work on Litphoria full time? Does the chat client even get updates any more regardless of OS?

 No.55100

>>55098

I was under the impression that it didn't, and was more-or-less only kept running by the devotion of those who use it.

Hell, I'm pretty sure that disclaimer that Slimcat doesn't actually work on it has been around since -before- I started using Slimcat, so at least nearly eight months ago.

 No.55101

>>55098

Yeah, litphoria is old as shit, but slimcat keeps up the client.

I'm pretty sure most of his users come from the litphoria mention on slimcat.

He updated it to support inline images and eicon for 5 if I remember right.

 No.55119

I use slimcat 4.11 right now, on a Win7 system. Is there any reason for me not to keep using it? It works fine, displays all the icons in chat. I get a crash maybe once every 30 hours of usage - totally acceptable to me.

 No.55130

>>55069

Less botnet, more "8 and 10 are borderline unusable because they're programmed to run like a fucking cell phone instead of a computer"

 No.55155

>>55119

4.11 is fine, it doesn't display inlines or [eicon] tags but that's about it.

I read slimcats' thing mentioned here >>55100 Even though when I talked to slimcat about it he was talking like he still did bugfixing and stuff and didn't even mention the community fixes so there still might be some hope for a fully functioning 5

 No.55156

>>55101

too bad it's not released yet.

also does anyone actually use litphoria? the idea is nice but i doubt it's gonna get much use, what with the kink tag thingy

 No.55157

>>55156

>also does anyone actually use litphoria?

The userbase has allegedly been growing but I think it's mostly people who are sick of f-list.
