Hey /erp/, something came to my mind and I wanted to see what everyone else thinks of it.

When you're filling out the profile details such as sexual orientation and partner preference, do you write what fits for the character, or what fits for your preferences as a player?

I remember seeing a female profile whos orientation was set to "Unsure", but their partner preference was stated to be strictly female. People bitched at them for misleading them, but to me it seemed pretty obvious that their character was just supposed to be unsure of their sexuality while the player just wanted to do scenes with another female character.

Kinks aside obviously, should these type of details reflect the character or the players desire?

Player, if you ask me. That's the whole point in my mind. I want to do scenes I would enjoy playing, so I build a character that suits the idea I have for one, but also suits my personal desires in regard to partner potential. I don't personally see the point in building a character that might be into something you're not unless it's more story based sort of RP you're going for. If you're interested in a good amount of sex though, I don't know why you wouldn't build to your tastes. Unless your tastes is being forced to do things you don't want to…

Everything outside the kink box and RP preferences (post length, perspective, etc.) or OOC notes (usually stuck in a collapsible box) is strictly character related for me. If there's player preference stuff I want to get across well, that's what custom kinks are for. Keeps things nice and tidy I think.

See, usually it's a matter of making a character that might not be into something YOU'RE into, especially for orientation play and corruption stuff and the like. Making a male character that's straight but you intend to get them dicked up the butt anyway, a pure chaste lady knight that you want to see get broken by slimy tentacles and the like; in either case it's certainly something the character wouldn't want to be caught dead doing but you as the player want to put them through it.

For a profile, I try to avoid as much "in character" voice as possible and speak from a player perspective.

If I make a musclegirl who's big and tough but has a secret kink of getting tied up and getting off on her own struggling, I won't hide that and say that she's always a dominant or always a top.

I think profiles made in the perspective of the character can just get too weird at times, giving off an odd meta feeling.

The player. Guessing games are retarded when there's so many people that outright lie about their preferences to appear tolerant. If you need to have an IC only kink, just tag it as (IC) and be done with it.

That falls into a different situation in my mind. Personally wanting a character to be subjected to such things but the character not like it, and not personally liking something the character enjoys are very different ends of the spectrum. I see the point in the former, but not the later. It seems counter productive in my mind.

That was kind of my point originally. I've had a lot of these kinds of discussions and people seem to forget that end of the spectrum even exists. That said being bi, a switch, and into a lot of really weird things kinda makes it hard to me to actually think of a character that would be into stuff that I'm not unless it's like… an ultimate scat hell scenario or something. That's probably why I gravitate more to thinking about how the character would react to things and mold their description and details and such around that.

Things important to search functions like gender, orientation and Dom/sub role should all match what the player actually wants. What the character wants should be put in the description like any sane person would do.

>reading profile

>looking good

>looking really good

>nice kinks, writes well, good pics, etc

>one little sentence in like three pages of text

>lolbtw "she" actually has a dick and is trans, this is to make sure I know if people read or not

I thought that's what the 'trans' option was for under gender. That's like, up there with people that hide passwords in their profile.

I gave this as a joke advice to someone. Surely they didn't listen to me and it's all a coincidence?

I think I actually saw the incident you were talking about. Marisa?

If it's her, she's a real sweetheart and anybody who complains is a fucking idiot. It's explained in the very first line of the profile.

>>65628

I agree with this. I love seeing profiles written in character voice with any OOC notes sectioned off.

People bitch about my profile having 'Unsure' as an option despite her being largely a lesbian too. I laugh in their faces.

Unsure is fine when you have it clearly laid out that you play with women mostly. It only pisses me off when you have something like bisexual on a female character with men and femboys as a hard no. That's not bisexual, that's fucking gay. Or even worse, I saw one that was bi-male preference with men as a no and they only wanted shemales or something.

 No.65808

The profile should be for the character, with maybe a small bit dedicated to talking about the player.

When the profile is all about the player, it's just fucking shitty. This is not the kind of information I need to roleplay with you. Likewise, it makes you come across as a creepy weirdo who's not actually looking to roleplay.

Mind you, part of doing this is that you have to find a way to relatively clearly convey what the profile is for.

 No.65933

For me the kinks and sexual orientation is always the same as mine. I might change minor things or customs for each character, though. For example, a character with a huge chest is going to have titfucking, breastplay, etc in the favorites. A character that's a little more on the average side and I'll move them down to yes. Stuff like that.

I write a lot of canons so it's pretty much stick to canon outside of sex. As soon as sex is involved it's the canon voice with my kinks.
