Does /erp/ play on any adult text-based MUSH's? (Shangrila, Lost Isles, Naughty Muffin, etc?)

I usually play on Lost Isles, Shang is way too cliquey and Naughty Muffin is alright but its mostly just sandbox stuff with no real In-character stuff happening. From what I've heard, Discordia is also pretty good if you are into MLP stuff (Which Im not)

>mfw I probably spent more time posting on When Online RPGs Attack than actually playing on MUSHes

I'm probably too bitter to get back into MUSHes now. I remember being on Shangrila for a short while, but I mostly had negative experiences there.

>Lost Isles

I assume that's relatively new, I hadn't heard about that one.

I've always wanted to try one or MUDs or anything of the sort. Unfortunately I didn't know they existed back in their glory days and feel like I missed out. I usually end up feeling pretty intimidated by existing communities as well so I never tried the ones that are still around.

I wouldn't mind giving them a shot if there's any good ones around.

Not much hope for MUDs or MUSHs anymore, really.

They form cliques and then start to die off.

There are also many people who inhabit MUDs that cannot type properly, even when English is their first language.

I recently started on a MUD called "The Gathering…" which, while it isn't sex-oriented, is adult-oriented and allows for sexual roleplay that's done out of the public eye save for one open area that, funnily enough, nobody goes to. Ever.

It's a nice enough place, but the people just can't help scaring away newbies. I was lucky enough to join while the mostly-antisocial crowd was on, while others receive the cringeworthy "SO RANDUMB WELCOME MESSAGE >x3 RAWRR CAEK" spam by the same 5 people who have clearly been there too long and have likely contributed to the MUD's downfall.

Honestly, that doesn't sound all that different from ten years ago.

Of course it doesn't, but there's a difference between then and now.

When MUDs began to die off there was always another dozen that could take its place, but MUDs are beginning to deteriorate much more rapidly and less teams are making or completing them due to it being a much more niche market than it previously was.

Wait, what is this? Is it like a text based MMO?

 No.67415

MMOs like Everquest were very much inspired by MUDs so yes, you could put it that way. There are a lot of MUDs and MUD-like games with all sorts of features. A lot of them aren't about fighting monsters, getting loot, and leveling up, but instead are about more or less free-form roleplaying.

So they are ACTUALLY MMORPGs? Now I really have to check this out. I'm currently reading an FAQ about this, but I was wondering, which one should I try as a beginner?

More like MMOs are MUDs with grafix

I'd start here. I haven't played any in many many years so I don't know which one to suggest. I recognize Armageddon from the list due to having briefly tried it, but that's it. After a while you'll notice a lot of these are similar in terms of structure and commands used, if not content.

Most of those are the mainstream "pay for benefits" MUDs that aren't good for anything but starting out.

Once you know the ropes it's good idea to abandon ship.

So what would be a good one to jump into if you understand the basic mechanics and shit? Honestly, I don't know about the other anon, but the more clique the better as far as I'm concerned, I'd love trying my hand at breaking it all apart.

Take your pick.

Your average RP-enforced MUD is either populated and extremely cliquey or a barren wasteland with around 5 to a dozen players on at any given time that will welcome you with open arms.

The Lost Isles was a small pretty much unknown MUSH until Shang's lolicaust happen (AKA, Shang instated a rule saying that all characters had to be 18+ so anyone playing as an underaged had to either change or delete their character) at which point a large portion of people flocked to either The Lost Isles or Naughty Muffin.

Honestly The Lost Isles is a bit more lolifocused because of this while Naughty Muffin has more of a focus on lesbianism and futas. You can play can still go against the grain with both of them and play other characters but you are more likely to easily find RP if you fall within those categories. Honestly I've never had any really bad experiences with Naughty Muffin either but I heard the headmin tried to invoke a rule that any gamergate supports would be banned, which none of the staff ended up enforcing because it was fucking stupid and then the headmin stepped down later. Dont know how accurate that is though. Other than that, they are ridiculously nice.

The main differance between MUDs (Multi-user dungeons) and MUSH's (Multi-user shared hallucination) is that MUDs are usually text-based RPGs with gameplay whereas MUSH's are just kinda social hangouts for people to RP in

>lolicaust

I started playing only a handful of months before the huge wave of "NO MORE LOLIS, 18+ ONLY!" started washing out MUDs, even the non-lewd ones. Not having been too active around that time (school and stuff) i missed the one-week deadline and my character was deleted back then and i've been having trouble finding any other MUD where i could play a mahou shoujo. The closest i got was some network that had fairies as race but it was populated by mostly futafurries and i lost interest completely since then. Well, not completely, the desire is still there but i haven't found a place that i'd be willing to try yet.
