Alchemy was and is still believed by many to be the precursor to chemistry or the transmutation of base or imperfect metals into perfect metals Gold or silver.. There is alchemy from different regions of the world. According to Manly Hall on his book titled the secret teachings of all ages Alchemy along with astrology were 2 sciences imparted to man by the angel at the garden of Eden. So that the race might once again return to it.
Personally I find Alchemy difficult to understand and explain don't know much about it.

I don't know much about it either. It's difficult to sift through the sea of lies that has seeped into the practice over the passed hundred years. I'm not even sure where to start when it comes to studying or reading of its history due to a documentary or book not really existing. Plus the problem is most people know it from that anima Full Metal Alchemist.
